    Whoa, an EST system! All the new schools built in my city since the late 90s use EST voice-evac systems, and I remember Simplex servicing them at one time (I distinctly remember on a day in 2008 they were testing the alarm system at one of the schools, and a SimplexGrinnell van was parked in the school's lot.)

      @@alexandersalarms5380 It sure is. I have seen a TON of EST systems in Boston. Though Simplex, Notifier and Gamewell-FCI are also pretty common in Boston, but EST is definitely more prominent in Boston than in my hometown of Brockton. But I wouldn't be surprised if my high school's new fire alarm system is EST once they go forward with the expansion and renovation plan.

      I believe that is trquired by fire safety and code standards. That way, for example, if a fire occurs on the third floor of a building, you don’t have to wait to get to the first floor or basement to activate the alarm. It may not seem like much, but it can actually alert the fire floor much faster. By the time you get all the way downstairs, that may be five minutes wasted when you could have set the alarms off on the fire floor and alert everyone to get out. I hope that helps.

    We had these alarms in my high school but they were white and my job now at a medical center has them.
    Does anyone know why you can hear that little chirp right before they start to sound?

    • @djijspeakerguy4628
      @djijspeakerguy4628 2 года назад +1

      It’s likely to do with the electronics charging up and sending some power to the horn, much like when you turn on any other speaker and it makes a little pop. It could also be another component in the circuit making that noise, such as a capacitor, which is what causes the clicking noise of the strobe as well.
      I had the integrity horn/strobes at my elementary school, and that little noise before they sounded was a live-saver! I somehow always knew what the noise was when I heard it, and braced. However, I remember sometimes hearing similar noises, such as a pencil being tapped on a desk, ducking and covering my ears unexpectedly. I always got weird looks from people around me when I accidentally did that.😂
