- While scanning through maps of the Selkirk Mountains, I spot a peculiar line on Strava Heat Maps leading up to a historic mountain hut. I decide to drive to the location to find out what's there, and wind up getting myself deep into a project.

Alpine Club of Canada should give you a FREE LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP!
And Rocko
He doesn't need their membership. They should build him a statue lol
Also your channel should be sponsored!! I felt your joy in that shower 😂
I was just thinking the same Nancy! Funny to see you on here! Hope all is well...now back to Foresty.
I concur
The trail should be renamed as the Forestry Forest Trail. Simon is amazing and never fails to impress anyone who watches. Canada owes you a debt of gratitude, Sir!
They do….
Yes!
Imagine a world where people cared as much as you do. Thank you for taking us along in your adventures.
Foresty Forest he lives in a van. Foresty Forest chainsaw in hand. Foresty Forest you da man :-)
Clearing that growth looks like De-Foresty forest.
You’re a great outdoorsman for taking time to clear out that trail.
In my younger days I used to do the same.
Brings back a lot of memories just watching.
Haha 😅
Or Foresty De-Forester.
Thank you for giving back by contributing 5 days of labor. This is what makes the world a great place!
The world truly needs more people like Foresty Forest. You are 1in a million. you give hope and optimism to everyone you come in contact with and those watching your videos.
Everyone says "we need more people like you," but nobody says "I need to be more like you" :(
Foresty, I love the fact that you want to give back to the community and keep the trails cleaned up and open. Five days of solo trail work is a tremendous amount of work and shows a sense of dedication to the project that I really admire. That is a huge commitment of time and hard physical labor on your part. For all of the hikers who will benefit from your labor over the next few years, thank you for your efforts!!
Are you in heat
@PaleTyper Yes, I am a supporter of the channel with my $15 donation every month. I look at it as a RUclips "tip jar" for the outstanding videos that Foresty produces.
@@NancyHanson3472 Nancy do you have OnlyFans?
As someone with NO internal compass I truly appreciate your videos!
😅
😭
Same!
Yeah, I’m a big fan of using the external compass that is AllTrails or Gaia
I tried that trail in 2007 and ended up turning around after 500 meters. The bushwhacking was nuts. Good Job!
Haha oh dang, yeah those alders were a nightmare!
"let's check out the abandoned cabin and see what's upstairs" never ends well in the movies..
let's get in the running car, no lets hide behind these chainsaws, ok... ;) That did feel like a super creepy place. Simon listens to his intuition, eventually!
@@Hilhub haha right? I often need to remind myself that he posted the video so that means he lived.
Haha, I was thinking that when he said "let's go upstairs." No, no no don't go upstairs in an abandoned structure.
what exactly was that on the bed....anyone know?!?
@@terrirocklover7957 Or Who ? 😮
Giving Back is so commendable Simon. You are a fantastic steward of our lands.
Thank you for your humbleness and honest way of living life!
Love the SpongeBob reference “5 hours later”. You’ve got a great sense of humour Simon.
"Come to the woods, for here is rest." - John Muir Except for Foresty Forest 😇
According the Muir, he's "sauntering " with a chainsaw and brush cutter
I think you are becoming Canadian Folklore. Canada needed a folk hero. Thanks Foresty 🙂👍
Well, you are truly a steward of trail preservation - BC is indeed, lucky to have you!
Simon, that was an honorable thing you did by reclaim the hiking trail to the cabin!
Wishing there are more people like you.
The cabin was really nice and cozy with the wood stove going.
Sad that Rocko wasn’t able to join.😢
There is probably no one that did what you did in this video. Days of hard work to help out other adventurers.
You are a great example of a Stewart of the land. Thanks for that - from Hells Canyon, Frank.
That house gave my an uncomfortable feeling within a few seconds!
Looked like a crime scene.
All that keeps running through my head while watching this: he's so awesome, he's so awesome.... The way you care for the land you explore and make it a better place for those who come after you. You're so awesome!
Foresty Forest deserves a giant thank you from the Canadian Forest service for the amazing dedication he has to the outdoors and so others can enjoy these trails. 👏🏼 I don't live in Canada but I just want to say thank you Foresty.
I'm so glad there are folk like Foresty Forest in the world. Lucky Canada too! :)
Great work clearing out the trail into Fairy Meadows! Many thanks for your efforts!🙏🙏 I know exactly how much of a challenge that trail can be. I ran the Alpine Club's GMC at Fairy Meadows in 1986, 1992 and 2000, we camped in the meadow below the hut. I walked the trail at least 10 times during those camps. I packed my trusty Stihl 009 and a machete each time I walked out, trying to improve the trail. By the end of each GMC the trail was in pretty good shape, most of the participants walked in and out, beating the trail in.
Thanks again, the trail is an important corridor to an amazing location.
We hiked in and out (to the hut and back) in one day last Sept - that 3km Alderbash at the start (not to mention the massive Devil's club patches to whack through before the rope climb) were tough! Even the Bear Grass in the meadow was an ankle breaker - but SO worth the work. We were going to go in there with our chainsaw in a few weeks to try and make it better - thank you so much for that incredible work you put in! You had a LOT more snow than we did. The oyster mushroom clusters were incredible when we went in there and yes, LOTS of bear scats.
That's great to hear! Definitely a tough hike before it was cleared.
You are a valuable friend to the hiking community. We'll done.
We also get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You are a kind soul Simon. Be safe.
Foresty forest is one of a kind
First off, I'd like to thank Forest for all great work he did on the trail. Having it largely cleared with most of the deadfall cut out made a huge difference on a trip in last week. There are some new deadfalls here and there but they're manageable. Plus the Swan Creek wildfire this summer has added some more obstacles to deal with.
I would just like to make a few comments about the trail based on what I read in the guest book at the hut and what I learned after speaking with some other groups we met up there over the weekend.
Firstly, you may or may not be able do this trip in 4.5 hours. Our group carrying in heavy packs with mountaineering gear made it in 6.5 hours and we felt that was a pretty good time that matches with what the ACC estimates it will take the average group to hike in. A lot of the guests in the log book said it took them 8 or 10 hours to hike in and the one group we shared the hut with had wandered in after dark after expecting it to only be a four or five hour hike which ended taking them more than nine hours to do. And it's not the safest trail to be wandering around on in the dark.
On the other hand, a group of trail runners we met had taken 4.5 hours but they all had pretty light packs on. Your mileage may vary.
To note, this is a very technical hike; this is no Parks Canada hiking trail through the forest. There's still a lot of alder bashing, side hilling, an active forest fire and burn zone, rock gardens, very steep slopes, and slippery moraines to manage. Obviously those hazards are manageable but take those into consideration and plan accordingly. There are parts of this trail in which a slip or fall could mean serious injury or death especially up higher on the trail near the moraines and the waterfalls or when it's wet.
That said, once again, thanks Forest. I kind of enjoyed this trek in but next time, I'll fly, haha.
That's great to hear it's getting some traffic this summer! Yeah it's definitely a challenging hike, still takes routefinding skills. I'm hoping to head back again with a brushcutter and do the second half so it's easier to follow.
You AND Rocko should be granted permanent access to ANY trail you want for all the work you do maintaining them!! 🐾🇨🇦
Foresty, your ambition and drive to create these outstanding videos for us never ceases to amaze me. Week after week, you knock yourself out and expend so much time and energy! You must be exhausted from 5 days of solo trail work. You really earn every dime that RUclips pays you for these excellent, high quality videos. THANK YOU so much for all of your efforts! You and your channel are THE BEST that RUclips has to offer!!
Yes!!
@PaleTyper Yes, Foresty Forest is a highly successful RUclips channel. His videos generally get over 100,000 views, and he gets paid quite well from RUclips and AdSense revenue. It helps him financially if you look at the video all the way to the end and also watch the ads that run before, after, or during a video. It also helps him when you leave comments and give the video a thumbs up. He used to work in a factory and do RUclips videos part-time, but he makes enough money now to be able to do RUclips full time and get a nice paycheck every month from them.

Hope you're having a great week, Foresty and Rocko
Simon! You are an absolute mountain of a man! Jeremiah Johnson would be proud of you. I so enjoy living vicariously through your videos. I love how honest and law abiding that you are. I can’t say that I would follow the rules like you do. You are an absolute gem. I look forward to every one of your videos, big short or small. Keep living your life hero. We’ll be right here with you!
Kudos to you, Foresty Forest, for clearing up the trail for folks going up there! Enough work there for a 3-person crew!
Your efforts made it a walk in the park for those that follow. Hopefully others will realize how high you set the bar.
That's an absolutely beautiful site. And the work you put into reviving that trail is nothing short of heroic. I've done a bunch of mtb trail building, and am familiar with hauling a chain saw - but nothing like what you did here. If 1 person in 1000 shared your ethic it would be a much better world.
dude!! amazing work. Loads of Mountain Karma for you. Thank you for your amazing acts of kindness and giving people access to amazing places!!
Fairy Meadows? I think that's now Foresty's Forest. I love the footage of Rocko doing her thing and enjoying the nice clear trail starting around 10:50
What an awesome spot. This was another outstanding video and the trail maintenance was outstanding. That would be a great spot to live. Thank you for another outstanding video. Take care, Al
This video was huge. Excellent recording and editing. The landscape shots were priceless Simon.
Hey Simon. Thanks for another great video. 👍
I love to watch Rocko's "zoomies" when she's excited! You did an amazing amount of work on this trail, Simon. You're such a good steward of the land! I was disappointed that Rocko didn't get to finish the mission, but thanks for sharing all that you do!
I wish I could hug one of this trees the are beautiful 😊😊😊you're a good man cleaning the tril 😊God bless
You are AMAZING Simon. You are SO dedicated. And the cabin is awesome. Thanks so much for all you do. Your filming is superb. I wish Rocko could have gone with you.
Wow! Amazing work. Thanks for your efforts
“Let’s go do it!” Ya gotta luv em’ Such enthusiasm!
Rocko zoomies at 10:50 is hilarious. Our Jack Russell was the same when he was young. Unending energy.
You are amazing. Every where you go, you leave it a better place for the next person!
Thank you for your hard work so that others can enjoy that trail and cabin. I was picturing the Bears and Deer cruising through the newly opened pathways. I loved your pep talk about going to the woods.
Not for me, but I love watching. There is no way I would be out on a trail with a possibility of bears accosting me.
Great ‘episode’ of your travels. Your videos told the story nicely. You’re one of the best out there for adventure travels. Thanks for cleaning the trail!
Calming, understated and then once in a while. Hardcore title 🤘
EDIT: The beds with branches or bush on them was creepy af.
Yeah wtf 😬 there were mushrooms mixed in too. Looked very carefully arranged.
@@forestyforest Yeah I thought I saw a rose there that seemed fairly fresh...Very strange!! I wonder what that was all about...yikes!
@@Tinalicous Gave me Hannibal tv series vibes. Then I remembered how isolated the hut is and suddenly you're "i don't like it here" and my own hackles went up. Trust the gut and gtf🏃♂️😄
Forest you are an amazing bushwacker! That was tough going and your chainsaw really served you well. I loved the old growth trees that you passed on your way up to the cabin. Great episode! Beautiful drone work and location.
Great work! Thank you for trail maintenance. Good video.
Yo! This is fricking cool. I live in Golden and have spent time up there for a ski trip but have been interested in returning during summer. People have said its super hectic getting up there by foot probably because of that thick bush! To see you make that trail accessible again has me so excited to return! 🤘🏻 Thank you for your passion and service to our community.
thanks for commitment to your adventure land and all your hard work foresty! the cabin was great treasure! it's vistas too. continued travel mercies and blessings.🕊
good guy forestyforest maintaining the forest
That must have been some storm where so many trees were down. Good on you for clearing the way.
You always seem to make your hikes productive and you leave those trails better than they were before. That is good stewardship, Foresty.
Your trail maintenance looks soooooo rewarding! I’m disabled, but if able-bodied, I’d LOVE to be out there keeping trails updated for other hikers! Alone. In the woods. Me and a chainsaw. And maybe a monster weed wacker. Heck yeah!! Good on ya. And what an awesome cabin!! I’d sleep like a baby up there by myself with that spectacular view. The drone shots were stunning!!! 😊
You are one tough guy, I really enjoy watching you clear trails and going up those mountains, hats off to you, I trained a lot of Sheet Metal Workers and know what it takes to work in areas that are cold and have obstacles
Always a great day in the CANADIAN Rockies. Well done Forrest, well done. Never underestimate your abilities to attack any situation. All the effort with you clearing the trail, keep Rocko with at all times, everyone else can get bent
Always nice to see a good steward of the outdoors, kudos foresty!
Been about 3 years since I watched a video. Glad he’s still doing well, have a lot to catch up on.
Thanks for the incredible efforts to open the trail ! The FM Hut and Swan Ck Valley pics bring back many great memories, as I flew in and out of the hut from 1981 until 2012. Love the videos Simon !

Forest, you are so Foresty 😘☺️ As always, good to see your face safe brother
I can only imagine just how much distance made hearts grow fonder between man & beastie. 😊
Night & Day between the two shelters. Can see why you wanted a quick exit from one and had grueling patience to reach the other.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful life with us & remember You are never alone; we are your besties. @--->--
Great job brother. RIP Bill. What an amazing legacy. Canada must be proud of you.
Yes, thank you to Bill for donating the money to build such a fantastic hut! He is probably looking down from heaven and smiling at Foresty. 🕊
"Living In a Minivan During Freezing Temperatures was my 1st Forestry Forest video that I watched 4 yrs ago. I wanted so bad to be in a cozy warm van by myself during freezing weather at the time. It was the perfect video to watch that day.
You're the best Foresty! More Rocco please!
Fantastic video! Thank you again Simon for doing such an amazing job with trail maintenance. We are grateful for your efforts!
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how much Rocko brings to the uploads. Not having her in the final bit just ain’t the same.
Never seen Simon scoot out of a place like that from that first cabin. That place must have some truly eery vibes.
Wow. What a great video man, I loved your energy in this style of video. Good work Foresty!
FF.. You are a good egg. Nice job.... Its actually fun and rewarding to watch you clear that path. Plus, I could watch Rocco run around with the zoomies all day!!!
You're the man, Foresty!
Beautiful hike! Your cinematography is why I keep coming back. What a nice cabin! Not the haunted one.
Canadians thank you for all the amazing trail work you are doing!
Classical Foresty Forest. Nice.
You're flippin' amazing. So much work, so satisfying. Please be careful and don't hurt yourself out there all alone. I appreciate you!
Foresty Forest fan fiction opportunity: FF trapped by a bear and forced to hide in the creepy haunted house. You could probably just flip that mattress over and it would be fine...
yikessss! lol
It definately had that vibe😮
This is so cool!! I would never be able to do this hike so thank you Simon and Rocko for sharing all your adventures!! This one is one of my favorites. Wild that such a nice cabin is built on such difficult trail. Your channel is one of my most favorite!! I get freaked out by some of your adventures and worry about your safety. Relax when I realized you had to come down to upload video. Take care.
Probably my favorite Foresty Forest video ever! Excellent camera work. Felt like I was there with you…but glad I wasn’t 🤭🤣

Forest: Yea, let’s go do it!
what government? what?
Really awesome. You put so much effort into making that trail nice for all.

wow. way to fluff your own feathers.
best video this year! Interesting experience, and that is an amazing hiker hut, kind of like the hiker huts we used on the Tour Mont Blanc last year - but empty.
