Southgate, understandably, is basking in the reflected glory from the brilliance of Watkins and Palmer, but only a combined 124 minutes in 6 games from them both so far. A brief but spectacular glimpse of what everyone knows they are capable of given more game time. Southgate risks sacrificing the progress achieved through brilliant individual moments by persisting to indulge his talisman Kane. The manager is tempting fate by relying on far too late substitutions to bail the team out far too often... he won't get away with it against Spain.

...actually the majority of England fans I know, had already accepted being knocked out during the Slovakia game. So getting this far has been a bonus.
The group games had changed our perception of the team and many hardly expected to progress past the quarters.
The fact that we are in a 2nd final like I said, is a bonus... and losing it will not be as painful as losing it at home as the favourite.
This time around, England are underdogs... and in a one off final... anything can happen, especially this England team, which has shown a lot of resilience.
It's not always the favourites that take home the cup... Denmark 1992, Greece 2004 and Portugal 2016!
Should we lose... fair play to Spain, they were the best team. No shame in that.
But at least we get to support our country in a major Final on Sunday... which is more than what many England haters will be doing!

Southgate is a genius. Many will disagree and dwell about luck, lucky draws or having great talent squad. I have cheered for and been following England for many years. In every major tournament, England has always had good squad but somehow their performances and achievements show otherwise. Quarter-final was their best.
France has a good squad, however they are too dependent on Mbappe to take them through. There was nothing wrong with that but Mbappe didn't have a good day and Deschamps brought Grizeman on. Unfortunately he didn't have much ball either in front of the Spain Goal, so he couldn't create exciting chance.
The lesson is you should alter your plan if it's not working as you have expected.

My point is not to argue comparisons regarding who is best, kane is not fit and behind the pace, that alone is a detriment to englands chances, they could start him for early impact maybe, or even have him ready to come on towards the end of the game, that way what energy and mobility he does have won't be sapped from him over 90 minutes, leaving him flagging and fading like the other night. if he is not involved and stays on for the full game, england will struggle to create chances, thats a big deal in a game of this magnitude, why risk it, when younger fitter players are sat their itching to get on.
