Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard are in a different galaxy to Toni Kroos. He's been a good, but not great player. Fabregas was a great player, but also not quite as good as those three. Zidane; something else entirely, and was one of the most gifted footballers of all time. He was one of the few truly top tier footballers I've seen, but certainly Lampard, Scholes and Gerrard were in the special tier, just below Zidane.
The peak of football will be this, every player will have to be capable of playing every position (bar goal kepper) And in doing so everyone will be able to rotate and cover any position.

Imo Lahm is the best fullback ever played the game because he just shut down everyone he played against. His most impressive stats are he never received a red card in his career and played a whole season without booking even a single foul. 🤯 There's was no player who could beat him in a isolated 1on1 situation. Rooney ability to play a false 9 into 10 position, play on left or right to allow Ronaldo or Messi to cut in and even play as an 8 like he numerous times in career going very deep box to box and he can be an 9 also winning a suprising amount of aerial duals for height and strength to deal with centre backs it had to be Rooney because of this versatility and technical ability to play so many roles which bring other players into game. Zidane and Scholes link up play and composure and ability in tight spaces are why they are my CM's. Busquats is a better passer than Makelale and bit better on the ball I would say but I think Makelale abit more tenacious. Gone for a mean back line and Goal keeper. But also Puyol and Maldini was excellent at controlling aggression when needed and maintain composure. I've also picked players who have a mean streak about them they can all be mean, winners all have this and these guys had it.
