It the constant possession obsession that make Man City boring. You see players play 10 passes when they could play 3 to get to the same position. Its boring to watch a team dominate the ball so much because it almost makes it uncompetitive.
You have to make the extra pass against a low block or get dun on the counter.
The extra pass also makes it easier for the team to move up the pitch together and counterpress when they lose it

Newcastle still have a pretty deep and high quality squad due to expenditure to have a go at Man City. Not everyone has the luxury of having millions upon millions at their disposal. So, ofc sides with much much smaller budgets won't go all out. This is why it's boring, because teams like Man City have ridiculous advantages, but that's the nature of the beast, football is more about business than the sporting nature. I think Man City winning only one champions league may be why Man City and Pep haven't been the best. Real Madrid clearly are the best team in the world, but the english media is so bias toward the premier league.
