I will never forget this performance! I was sitting with my dear deceased mother who was born in 1926 and listened to the greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vahgn, Frank Sinatra, etc. She stopped and said to me in awe: "who is this woman!?" what is this song!?" She said she never heard a singer like this and said she would be the greatest! Came true.
FYI: When you mentioned the conductor did a great job, she’s actually the conductor. She arranges her live performances. If you watch her hang gestures, she is also conductor them what to do. The band follows her. It’s one reason she was inducted into hall of fame. Many consider her a musician as much as a singer.
God bless you Lee. Spot on comment. Whitney got that from her mom and cousin Dionne. Cissy understood the art of arrangement and accompanying from church training. Dionne too, as well as a degree in music theory. The great Leontyne Price is family. A group of remarkable musicians
dead on. GF ran the show. also composed/arranged/sang all backing vocals on studio recordings for years. Absolute elite musician. She used her voice like an instrument. commanded it. literally owned the stage live and all involved.
@michele2855 yes and you are spot on!! Whit got that from that saaannging a** iconic Ms. Dionne Warwick. She certainly is nothing to play with!! Ms. Dionne is the greatest OG!! She is like a gangsta on the mic😂😂❤❤
This is probably her greatest live performance. Ever. It gets me every single time towards the end, and every single time, I think of the tragedy of her life, and the kind of legacy she left behind. She truly was *THE VOICE!*
I had the honor of seeing Ms Houston live in concert and I was blown anyway. I cried , I danced, I laughed. She is a true God given talent and I miss her everyday. RIP beautiful Angel ❤️
Same here. I remember it vividly and I was young. Anything live from Whitney Im in. I am blessed to have seen her twice live and no joke she doesn't miss!
There are so many. Listen to One Song, Greatest Love at Mandela concert at Wembley, London, A Quiet Place, from 1987, and I Am Changing (New York version).
@bestvocalsbyvocalists849 dead on 1990 Arista performance of "Greatest Love of All" THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. (I have never been able to figure out why people like the Wembley version better - ofc also great but that Arista performance bar none!)
She was phenomenal! This was my favorite performance of hers (and there were many). She just stands in the middle of the stage in front of her peers and blows them away. No dancers, no backups, no distractions, no nothing.. just her, her incredible voice, the orchestra, and a beautiful song that she delivers without fail.
I never expect to hear a better singer in my lifetime. For me, there’s been JFK, Secretariat, Elvis, Larry Bird, and Whitney Houston. Simply the best of the best.
Yes that's correct Dereck...the great Whitney Houston needed no studio to record her magnificent vocals...when she sang live that was her best for sure....so sad about her life's story😢we will never be another Whitney Houston💖a superstar left us far too early.....yes emptiness in our music now....no stories are told in music these days....music will never be the same.....hey Dereck how do I give donation? Let me know? Thankyou for your reactions to all best singer's of my era, cheers.
There are many fabulous vocalists out there, some better known are Anita Baker, Kim Burrell, even Eva Cassidy and many others but Whitney Houston had the most wonderful voice of them all because her power was natural, her softness was natural and her command was subpar. She was a Leo too, which gave her this innate ability to command the song, therefore her musicians/band/conductor (as you rightly said, that was a very good comment) while presenting and storysinging to us. As a vocalist myself I have never heard a voice so beautiful and compelling, even if she was sometimes here and there off key, her talent and command of her instrument have always impressed me. What a loss...
One of the best performances of all times❤ And nothing beats a live orchestra, you see it so rarely nowadays. Please react to when Whitney sings the national anthem at Super Bowl (I believe), also an iconic performance. I remember she wore sweats doing it, so cool.
One thing I love about Whitney is that you can understand every single word when she sings. The new artists nowadays sound like they're singing with a bag over their head. Tney don't know how to enunciate their words.
The greatest voice of all time she just a gift that came from God love the reaction can you react to her video and song I Believe in You and me her voice was so powerful in there
Thanks to those who requested this performance, it’s iconic indeed! I often prefer live version, especially from great artists like Whitney because they bring something more to the song. And did she deliver there!
Derek do all the man that I need live for the troops. Every time I need to be reminded of greatness I go back and watch.... it it’s the same thing with Madonna’s like a prayer live for blonde ambition I’ve never seen so much talent in one performance
Hi Dereck,a beautiful song.I love the song. The Moment! All the good artists are no longer there.May they rest in Peace. But i would rather have them here with us.How selfish of me.But true! What a voice!😢😃😃😃💝🐬thank you Dereck for your reaction!🐬
I love this song so much !!! I always remember the first time I heard it on radio on that night of winter in moutains, after the song I only needed silence to take my breath back and realize what I heard. Whitney definitely gave me that one moment in time !!!
People ask why she moves the microphone 🎤 away from her mouth? Back then the speakers could not handle powerful voices and she would blow the speakers and audience ears out. She knew exactly what she was doing and she was the best live vocal. 🙌🏼✨
In her prime her live performances were better than the studio recordings..she would play with the vocal arrangement that reflected her interpretation of the songs..rather than her producers. That made them so much better. Her actual voice in her live performances in the 80s and 90s could be an album no production required.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this video and I really enjoyed your intellect regarding music- I’d love to see you react to more of Whitney’s live performances especially I will always love you- can you direct me to your link if you have- thank you 👍
They definitely don't make music like that anymore.. the 80 and early 90's was imo the absolute pinnacle of Music.. and everything went down hill from there. Now we have what i call Junk music.. kinna like Junk food, as it has not nutritional value, and it mostly filly you up just so you're no longer hungry to make you feel like you've been nourished. Today's junk music is just the same, have no emotional or sentimental value, it's just music that tickle your ears and mostly organized noise,, don't touch your heart or impact your soul.
My absolute favorite song of hers. Stunning vocals, and so much emotion. Didn’t know this version, and wow, just wow. I still prefer the studio version, though. Another great by her is “All the man that I need”. I also like “All at once”
Idem. L'ai marqué en comm aussi. Lui qui dit qu'il veut voir le clip avant le live ou émission live. C'est comme pour I Wanna Dance With Somebody (1987), ma chanson préférée, depuis un an jamais vu le clip sur la chaîne!
Came true.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful story!
THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME. JUST EFFORTLESS, ELEGANT,AND SO CAPTIVATING. Your hair has to stand up when listening to her live.
My favorite singer of all time!!! The GREATEST ever!!!
FYI: When you mentioned the conductor did a great job, she’s actually the conductor. She arranges her live performances. If you watch her hang gestures, she is also conductor them what to do. The greatest
I believe he’s mentioning the conductor in the back
Whitney Houston. A megawatt. None like her. Truly a legend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is probably her greatest live performance. Ever. It gets me every single time towards the end, and every single time, I think of the tragedy of her life, and the kind of legacy she left behind. She truly was *THE VOICE!*
I remember watching this live, truly incredible. The song was written for the 1988 Olympics.
Me too! I was baby sitting my cousin and when my Aunt drove me home I couldn't stop gushing over it!

Bar none, Whitney's best vocal performance, and one of the greatest "live" vocal performances of all time.
Nah,All the man that I need(Live at Asernio Hall),The Greatest Love of all(Arista Record 1990)are her best performance vocally.
This and her live performance of Didn't We Almost Have It All are two of the best live performances ever.
I swear that final E vowel makes me cry every single time, it’s so free and powerful
She is the all time favorite singer and there's no one can measure up to her voice!!
It's like you're floating in space when you listen to Whitney Houston sing it's absolutely incredible
Phenomenal
A powerfull voice indeed. It was an incredible performance. You reaction, as usual, perfect. Thanks for bringing this to my memory
Whitney is the best singer I have heard in my lifetime.
If someone doesn’t get goose bumps every time you hear her angelic voice.. you better check your pulse.. pure perfection ♥️
I never expect to hear a better singer in my lifetime. For me, there’s been JFK, Secretariat, Elvis, Larry Bird, and Whitney Houston. Simply the best of the best.
Stand up guys , bring down the house- I'm feeling the same way. Whitney forever! 🤍
No-one else. Only Whitney. Her moment in time passed way too fast.
From the sublime to the devastated. Heartbreakingly beautiful. Heartbreakingly sad.
Thank you so much for giving Whitney her flowers!! I’ve always said she is and was the voice!!! There’s nothing body better than her!!! Nobody!!!

This is an underrated Whitney 💎. It was from an album for the 1988 Summer Olympics.
I watched this performance on tv when it aired - I recorded it and watched it again and again - majestic performance!
One of her best live performance. Such a beauty. Quelle chanteuse ! Love from Paris
The voice 👑
She was amazing. One of a kind. Her story is so sad.
One of the best performances of all times❤ And nothing beats a live orchestra, you see it so rarely nowadays. Please react to when Whitney sings the national anthem at Super Bowl (I believe), also an iconic performance. I remember she wore sweats doing it, so cool.

My personal favourite Whitney live performance. 💜🎤 Goosebumps, hair raisingly stunning. ✨
This performance is amazing
Her best vocal performance ever IMO
She was and still is the badest in the game. Those vocals were a gift gift gift that not many if no one had. Her control was unmatched.
The best Grammy live performance ever!!!
While you were reading the lyrics I was looking at Queen's album on the right and I was thinking that it had a Bohemian Rhapsody vibe!
Thanks to those who requested this performance, it’s iconic indeed! I often prefer live version, especially from great artists like Whitney because they bring something more to the song. And did she deliver there!
Diosa.. La voz... Love love... Que bonito......
Very very thorough analysis.. well done.
You're right - music today is just not the same.

The big voice men
You're absolutely beautiful You're a bright shining soul
Check out k.d. lang’s “Love is Everything”. It’s an emotional journey. Absolutely beautiful song!

PLEASEEEEE!!! REACT to WHITNEY HOUSTON "You're Still My Man" (Its an extreme example of her range)
Derek please please do more Donna Summer . I ve been begging you for months!
Dereck, when will you react Grace Jones?
My absolute favorite song of hers. Stunning vocals, and so much emotion. Didn’t know this version, and wow, just wow. I still prefer the studio version, though. Another great by her is “All the man that I need”. I also like “All at once”
And to think she lost the Grammy for best female vocal just right after this performance. SMH
❤ from 🇦🇺🇦🇺🙏👍
Female version of Elvis. Epic singer and performer
Oh D-man you should check out her mother Cissy Houston- think it over. It's a disco jam and you can hear where Whitney gets her musicality from
Lol and I'm from South Africa and she is a legend here
She had such a great voice. So much better than Mariah Carey and Celine Dion who are a little screechy.
🥰😍
Indochine l aventurier
Please please please react to her performance in 2000 at arista’s anniversary. It’s a medley of her classics
