Whitney is the greatest. She had it all, beauty, grace, vocal technique, vocal range, angelic head voice and stage presence that is superb. That was hair she pulled out of her mouth. She had no vocal equal. None. You really should react to one of her earlier live performances--one in particular is I Am Changing 1986 in San Francisco. It’s not an actual video but an audio. She uses every single part of her range and she literally will bring you to tears. That’s the magic of Whitney, she knew how to connect with her audience and she had incredible emotive ability. Whitney just used her instrument far greater than anyone.
Just like Adele, she's got all of these as well, it's just both of them enjoying what they do best, both are Queens of pop, both Artists tells storys with their songs and the words all comes from their hearts!!

You aren't only hearing horns. This is one of the rare times that she is singing with a full orchestra. Live strings, horns, winds, percussion...everything!
@@mat_o8975 I wasn't saying that she used recorded music ever. There's a difference between an orchestra and a band. She always had live music, but not necessarily always a full string section horn section woodwind section. That's what I meant she always performed live that's not what I was saying. you can improvise in front of a band just as you can improvise in front of an orchestra
First she couldn’t hear herself this the reference to her ear, then she had a lozenge she took out. Whitney was and will always be the greatest vocalist of all time imo. Her tone and the fact she can reach into your soul and make you feel she was singing directly to you. 💗
One thing to add, is that she controls the orchestra. They don't control her. When there is those breaks, the orchestra listens to her and and takes their cue from her. Watch her performances, and you see a lot of it. A true and genuine diva and Queen!
Her hand movement is her trademark, she’s feeling the song it’s running through her! When her fingers flutter she about to slay! It was a cough drop, she’s sick here if you can’t tell. She’s hoarse! She closes her eyes because she giving you her emotion, it looks great when she does!
No one will ever come close to her in studio or live. As for her fingers, that’s how she feels her music. And her stopping before the last transition on each note, she does that with this song every time. The one thing that she does is that in every live performance she is different. Wherever the music takes her, she does it. She is unbelievable and will never ever ever be matched! She was not chewing gum. She’s a pro. No professional singer would go out with gum in their mouth. And that is a love orchestra behind her, everything is live, no auto tuning just a master of her craft!
I loved Whitney in her Prime, one of the greatest singers in my opinion. It was so sad when she lost her voice in the last few years of her life. I cried when i saw her last world tour, folks walking out as they were so disappointed. I prefer to remember her in the 80s and 90s x God Bless Angel

I can't listen to a song of hers without tears in my eyes. She was such a huge part of my life when I was a teenager. Another great talent gone to soon. 😭
she colored this performance with various parts of her voice and blended in with the band to deliver a performance that kept you watching and feeling it long after it was over. great reaction as well
That wig was all over her face and I believe it was a hair that was bothering, but I have to say, she chose the perfect moment to get rid of it, in the clímax of the song while building suspense. She was a master of her craft.
She slays it even with a piece of gum or a mint in her mouth! Lol, She’s a legend no doubt! I think she knew she was going to stretch her voice so she has the mint or whatever to lubricate her throat for singing.
It was a piece of gum. Because she was known to sing with gum. It's a part of the show. It's a part of her showing her skill set. She didn't have to recover... she removed gum from her mouth. Period!
I listen to an interview where he asks her about moving her hands, and she said it's her way of working with the musicians to let them know the arrangement when singing. You get my drift 😏
There was no redemption or recovery lol. She had a piece of hair in her mouth and, being an amazing performer, she turned it into a dramatic moment. Aside from her voice & presence, it’s those little moments that set Whitney apart. Once she was locked into a performance, nothing could throw her off her game.
Whitney at the height of her career, height of her vocal ability, height of her beauty - a remarkable and moment in music history worth remembering. She had it all. What a shame we lost her to the drug. RIP, Whitney! Didn‘t you almost have it all!? Best cover coming close to her: Jessie J live in China. She does Whitney credit!

Whitney Houston, and her beautifull diva voice 🧡 I don't know why, because it's different somewhere... she reminds me of another amazing singer: Tina Turner 🤔😊
she might have gotten a piece of her hair in her mouth....caught on her tongue....or it could be gum. some singers do chew gum because it salivates their mouth (good for singing)...... what they do is hold it at the top of their mouth....or under their tongue while they sing....but i think it's a piece of hair- a piece of hair that came loose from her perm. If that sticks to your tongue, then slowly slips down your throat, you will choke of course. Singers inhale very deeply and she doesn't have the choice to just stop and get the hair out immediately....so she was waiting for when there was a pause in her singing
I do that when i sing some times,, on certain notes and parts of a song i close my eyes. But never have them closed too long, only certain parts or notes. For me, it's when, like you said, at a certain part you very quickly and momentarily be in another place, almost like you're becoming 1 with the song, when not only your voice, but your whole body is reacting to it. .. I was aware i do it, but i never really thought about it much until you bought it up..I will try not doing that, or at least, try to be conscious of when i'm about to do it and try to stop myself from doing it when my body and mind naturally react to certain parts of a song or notes. I want to see if it will be difficult not to
The thing in Whitney's mouth might be a lozenge called Vocalzone, it helps singers voices a lot before and during a performance, you wouldn't believe how many professional singers use Vocalzone. Tom Jones has been using them for decades, he never performs without them!
apropos of ”sth in her mouth” - some singers (especially those who make huge vocal efforts) sometimes hold some sort of gum in their mouth, to stimulate saliva (aka prevent drying of the mouth/throat). tori does that too, for example.
