I keep on feeling so bad for everyone in the world that never heard the incredible music of Stromae. In Europe and here in the Netherlands he was and still is well known. My biggest regret is to have never seen him perform live.
Please check out all his music, brilliant without exception!
stromae is terug, dus je hebt nu de kans om hem weer in volle glorie te zien

i remember when i was younger my parents urged me to watch this and a year later we also watched the live thing on tv and it was amazing how they did this live too. btw i'm also from the netherlands and this used to be my favorite song
I'm from Québec and he's huge here too. He's been on the radio for years. Definitely a cultural icon.
Formidable, Tous les Mêmes, Quand c'est, Carmen, House'llelujah, Te Quiero are all unforgettable, Stromae is a king, a genius, best artist of our generation !
Stromae is just a genius !!! Also involved in his own fashion. Hope he will again. One Day ...
Un grand artiste, oui
Il va faire un nouvel album bientôt !
New album is coming !
@@heistgta J'espère vraiment car cet homme est remarquable😍
he struggles with depression a lot so that's why you probably haven't heard from him much lately. He does still write music though, but he likes staying out of the public eye.
@@brigittesnelson2354 he also struggled with Paludisme (Malaria?) And the treatment got him really weakened.
Not to mention the burn out he went through with his skyrocketing fame.
There is sadly something more to this song. His father died in the Rwanda’s genocide and had barely spend time with his son before that. You can feel the regrets of the artist.
Little anecdote : Stromae arrived at a NRJ Music awards ceremony in model mode as in the clip (in the same car too) and was carried by 4 men on the red carpet to the interior
Best anecdote
then Will.I.am ruined his performance

You know he is a Belgian artist (from my country) this song is about his father leaving when he was a young boy it's actually really sad. I am impressed that you reacted to that
The reason you find it odd Dereck is perhaps because there is a tragic explanation to this song, a tribute to his dad and other people killed during the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. Makes it even edgier and profound
Stromae is a singer from my country of Belgium and it is he himself who makes his own music, the piano is therefore him 😊
Nice I didn't know, that piano harmonies and rythm sound very unique. I tried to reproduce them on the piano and realize how special it was
👍👍 Stromae is such ...a Maestro ❤️ So much sensitivity and talent .
The visuals of the video are simply breathtaking
Stromae is a true genius
You'd also lose your bananas completely over his next hit single TOUS LES MÊMES, a dancey, poppy song that denounces male chauvinism through another creative music video. You'd absolutely love it.
And also Formidable! So so good
Ummm its about male AND female flaws actually
Ah oui cette chanson est super !!

You cannot explore Stromae without reacting to Alors On Dance!!!!! It was a major WW hit!
This was last week reaction iirc.
Fathers are so important!!!!!! This song shows it in a melancholic way.....
Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Stromae! This song is lived experience for him dealing about the absence of a father who was fickle moreover killed in the genocide in 1994 (Rwanda). He cried when he wrote these lyrics.
Papaoutai is just an invented word which means "Papa Où T'Es" in French (Papa Where Are You).
It's a song released on 05.13.2013 as a second single taken from "Racine Carrée" album with a "retro" choreographed music video. It has house style mixed with pop influences and African rhythms,a little variety too. It became no.1 in France and Belgium in August 2013. On YT, the M/V has exceeded 800 million views! Incredible!!! Kudos Stromae!
You should react on Formidable (Ceci N'Est Pas Une Leçon), a song with subtitled lyrics shot in Brussels near a tram stop on hidden camera, another HUGE HIT the same year which did the "buzz" at the time!
Thanks for your great work Dereck! 👍😉
Yes , in fact , Papaouté is a sad song. Stromae is looking for his dad. But , it is not possible to see him , because he is dead , in Rwanda genocide.
Unclassifiable, sublime, crazy, funky, out of the system. His instrumentations are completely crazy
Stromae ✨ 🇧🇪 so proud 😊
You can be proud of belgium. Many french artists are/were actually from belgium. Salutations amis d'outre Quiévrain.
@@samueldevulder ils "deviennent" vite français en effet 😏😄 salutations 😉
@@dina-ys6xf , what is "papaoutai"? What is mean?
@@user-cl2fh9er3k "dad where are you ?" In "Real" French "papa où tu es?"
The song is about absent Fathers, the "Narrator" been the CHild that ask the question or is been asked by others "Where is your Father?" ("ou est ton Papa?").
Stromae is playing the Missing Father in this clip, that is represented by a Doll/Mannequin, the Kid seeing and watching other kids been with their parents (All the dancers are an adult and a child, either they found Dancers that had kids that also danced, or they found matched pairs that looked close enough for the illusion to work)
By the End you see that the Doll/manequin "dance" with his Son, it is the Kid imagining what it would be like to have his Father with him, Stromae dancing is Stiff, cause the kids is imagining it has such, never knowed his father personaly, he can only imagine him how he would do it, but with only a Stiff Father figure, thats all he can do.
By the end the Kid is also becoming stiff as the Father's Mannequin, cause of the Fear of also been an absentee Father when its turn will come, the fear and anxiety to repeat what you lived through.
Stromae's Father was killed in the rwanda's genocide, so he hardly knew him and grw up without a father, this song is a dedication to his father, but also to all the people who had to grew up without a father figure.
Its something that tocuhes me, cause i also never knew my father, he died when i was 1yro from a work accident,a nd my Mother had to bring me up on her own with my grandparents.
Fun Fact: Il s'appelle Stromae parce que c'est le verlan de Maestro 😊 !

Hi Dereck ! I just discovered your channel and I'm really glad it happens to be about French/French speaking singers (let's not forget that Stromae is Belgian😊). I'm French and I often wondered how French music was perceived outside our borders. Thanks for your amazing analysis! Take good care and see you on your next video! 😉
OMG !!!! it's rare to have a little known artist like Stromae !!!! His music is so eclectic. I started listening to your music, thank you Madame X for Madonna
Love this song and as someone with abandon syndrome it ⁷ly hits home.
Great reaction and discovery from Derek!
Jejejeje, super ver tu reaccion de esta cancion me sorprendi ver le habias hecho una reaccion, saludos desde Mexico!
Amazing to see you react to French music haha. You should react to "Stay on these road" or "summer moved on" (the lead singer broke a world record with this last song) from A-ha, a Norwegian band (you surely know "take on me")
They're just fabulous and I'm sure you will lost your bananas!
you have the best reactions!!!
" Tous les mêmes " by Stromae is for you ... Enjoy ...
tous les mêmes from Stromae is insane good .thank you for this lovely reaction video x
Alors on danse... the video where he "explains" how the writing of that song was done, together with a French comedian. If you can get it that is but it's hilarious
He already did it last tweek!
i love the line "everybody knows how to make babies, but nobody knows how to make papas" bc it's so true, nobody really knows how to be a good parent and so way too many parents fuck it up. there's so much more to being a parents than just having a child
First time I heard the song, this line punched me in the stomach...
I love so much these guys : Stromae and Dereck!!
One of my all time favorite songs. Stromae is incredible!
The point of the video is that kids need their fathers in their lives, and that they become like them, even if they're not there... which the protagonist kid did in the end: mimicking the dad mannequin. The dad was actually absent from his life and the dance where the mannequin started dancing was just the kid's imagination.
Stromae's "Peace or Violence" or "Te Quiero (ceci n'est pas un clip)" are less known but also great.
"mush of beats" translated into "bouillie de betteraves" (beets porridge) in the captions really made my day!
Absolutely ! you right Sir 🤘😎👍
Stromae was born in Belgium from a Rwandese father and Belgian mother. His father left his family to go back to Rwanda to live there, where he was later killed during the Rwandese genocide in 1994.
This album is incredible. A must have for every music lover !
love your videos
Whaooo !!!! 807 millions of views on RUclips !!!!!!!!! So powerful emotions you put to !!! Merci for all your french songs discovering !!!
Saintes Bananes ! Holy Bananas! J'aime bien cette chanson. I like this song. Another good reaction vidéo!
In a certain way, I feel like this video has a kind of Van Gogh energy. Almost surreal imagery, but in a way where it looks warped and chaotic on the surface, but then it reveals another layer of reality to you.
You seem to love French music, surprised you haven't reacted to M83 especially Midnight City, it's right up your alley
I could listen to this song in a loop all day any day. Stromae is amazing!
Amazing reaction/amazing music/amazing video
Superbe Dereck ses réactions sont magnifiques car il ressent les emotions et vie la bonne musique ,j'adore
I always compares him like a lady gaga from belgium, all things given to us are calculated with a phenomenal precision.
From belgium, he's considered like their new "jacques brel", artist from 50 60's very drama and lyrical
Tout mon soutien à votre démarche courageuse et honnête, merci, infiniment pour l'ensemble de votre travail qui d'une extrême importance. 😉👍
I highly recommend you "Quand c'est" from Stromae, probably one of the most touching and emotional song I've heard :) regarding a topic hardly ever talked about in the music industry
Amo a Stromae , sin duda es un genio ❤️
Stromae is quite unique, in how he became famous, look at his teaching videos, or his crowd experiments in metros or in the streets pretending to be drunk or whatever, he records his vocals in public sometimes and soon people notice who he is and film him, etc... It's rare to fill stadiums with techno music...
Ce morceau se joue vraiment dans le fond du fond du temps, ahah. C'est posé là bien en retard :)
Absolument groovy. Et puis ces sonorités africaines sont bien senties. Joli Chef d'oeuvre.
I suggest "Tous les mêmes", "Formidable" and "Carmen by Stromae
Ta fête too
FORMIDABLE !
I tried to reproduce that piano intro (when he starts singing) on the piano and I realized how special it was (harmonically and rythmically). Love this song
I love your videos. Im french and i love watching your videos of french singer. Stromae is belgian but it's the same. I propose to listen Michel Berger '' Paradis Blanc '' its amazing
Paradis blanc est un très bon choix ! Magnifique chanson !
Michel Berger ? Formidable !
Extraordinary artist
I saw him live twice and he was amazing!
Perfect reaction 👏
Stromae - quand c'est ? This one still sends shivers down my spine. He did a duet with Coldplay on their previous album and I'm hoping he will be back with more of his own work.
I knew you would like it :) you can check out the songs, TOUS LES MÊMES which is funny as he plays the man and the woman in this duality, the dancing part are crazy; QUAND C'EST which in fact is about cancer (the disease) and it sounds the same as "quand c'est" which means "when is it coming". The visual is amazing; CARMEN is just amazing too as the video is an anime talking about Twitter. I cant wait to see you react to all these gems :)
Thanks you for honoring french music (Xxx a French guy 😁😉❤️)
As a french i saw a concert in NYC, so so so great
I didn’t know this one , love the song and dancing ! Ou t’es means where are you ? The beats is very African !
Tous les Mêmes

And the list can go on and on...
Stromae is a legend in music and I absolutely love his creativity in his music, his clothing line and even his stage name & clothing line name... everything!!!
Dereck I was drinking my cup of tea and I thought of this track for you to react to the band is Faithless the track insomnia it is a legend of a track
Stromae is really strong .. He is the one who plays the "puppet" and who dense .. He can do everything, he started by giving piano lessons I think. I am French and I love watching your reactions they are superb haha thank you
Stromae!! Un artiste qui a définitivement changer ma façon de voir la musique et de la faire. J’adore!
He was born in the same town as Lara Fabian, in Etterbeek. Must be something in the water.
Un pur génie !! Espérons qu'il revienne

The video of Tous les mêmes is a masterpiece
Hi Dereck! Thanks for the reaction! If you wanna make your playlist amazing, you should totally react to Gin Wigmore and Loic Nottet (two different artist heeh)
"Alors on dance" from stromae is also incredible
Grand Artiste!!!!!
The outfit is available, he has created a fashion brand MOSAERT
This song always makes me emotional, and I still to this day don't know exactly why
It's not just the video, but the words too. Together makes it powerful. Especially when they finally dance together but actually it is only the child dancing while the dad sit's in the car
Cancer and Ta Fete is an incredible song as well a very interpretive video. Highly recommended. His lyrics always have something to say
So many puns, word plays, literary ou culture subtleties in Mylène or Stromae 's songs lyrics you miss (translations just give the first meaning) ... 'cause the French language gives so many words to talk about objects, feelings and ideas.
Hi Dereck, Thanks for reacting on this amazing song.
FYI, the guitar pattern you can hear all along the song is a 100% Congolese Rumba style.
Thank you for sharing this. We hear this a lot in Dominican music and I'm grateful to learn about the origin.
7 years later, i still remember the lyrics.
My favorite is "everyone knows how to do babies, but nobody knows how to do daddies" . Love you Stromae
This song is sooooo good
He compose his own music, it's him on the piano =)
Stromae is an amazing artist who is both loved by young and old people. He mix old stuff with new one. He made his own beats that appeal to young people but sings like a man in the 70's. While doing this, he also make amazing music video with original dances. The music that you called "salsa" is actually a very usual tempo from Congo. Stromae is very gifted as he associates different styles in his music. Most of all, he is like a poet. It's sad you can't understand french. But just know his lyrics are always profound and have different meaning. The title "Papaoutai" can be translated by "Where are you, dad?" but il can also mean "To be duped". You can see the boy missing his dad. His mom always lie to him saying that his father is here but he works all the time. So the kid imagine a dummy of his father. Because it's fake he can't bond with him. So the boy become more and more frustrated and envious of the kids who have parents. At the end, he misses his dad so much he duped himself thinking the dummy is real and he actually had a dad too. The clip, the music, the song, the dance and the lyrics are amazing.
one of the few true artists in my lifetime. (I am a 1971 build)
So African salsa rhythm 😂 at the end
Hello Dereck, you should listen "Mr/Mme" by Loïc Nottet. Another wonderful Belgian singer (also author, compositor and beautiful dancer).
