Hi Dereck. Thanks for your react on EUROPE. This rock song The Final Countdown from the Swedish group is CULT, EPIC and ICONIC. It is the basis of 80's songs and it is part of it!
It's taken from their third album as a first single released on February 14, 1986. It's their biggest hit of their career, a global hit !!!
It was ranked almost no.1 everywhere, even in France !!! And this for 8 weeks at the TOP 50. Nobody escaped!
In the USA, it even reached the TOP 10 on the Bilboard Hot 100 and No. 18 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The song refers to the live explosion of the shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986 but also Space Oddity by David Bowie.
Originally the song was to serve as an opening for concerts but the band did not think it would be a mega hit. But it was their Epic Records label that at the time proposed to them and finally they accepted. The band wanted it to be "Rock The Night".
The videoclip contains footage of two concerts recordings in Sweden on May 26 and 27, 1986 as well as sound tests and some landscape footage in Stockholm.
For your NEXT REACT you should to Rock The Night or Carrie ( a ballad), Cherokee (1987), music video shit in Almeria (Spain) in the same eponymous album.
Thanks for your amazing work our American dude. 👍🇫🇷

"The Final Countdown" is such an iconic 80s song.
I like it a lot from time to time, but I couldn't listen to the song all day.
    Keeps it special imo.

Wow, wow, wow. I didn't even know about this ending. In the studio version it just fades out on the chorus. And I literally can't believe you never heard this song before although you were only 1 year old when it came out. Well, I was 6 so it was massive and of course I heard it when it came out. They say that they are one hit wonder but I beg to differ because what about "Carrie"? And "Cherokee" although it wasn't as massive as "Final Countdown" and "Carrie" it still was a hit as well.

Oh wow....can't believe you're discovering Europe...I had this album when I was 13-14...this song and "Rock The Night" and "Carrie" and oh yeah "Cherokee" are totally smashes!!! I remember Europe ruling the "Dial MTV" countdown every single day....(for those who are oblivious to it, DialMTV was what TRL used to be haha).

You should react to another swedish band. Sabaton. They are a power metal band that writes zongs that are about war, heroism and that kind of stuff. I recommend: Carolus Rex, The Lion from the north, 40-1, Uprising, Steel commander, En livstid i krig and many more.

Epic song. Great live band, ive seen them many times over years. They are still playing together after a long split from 1992-2004. They have relesed many new albums since then.Joeys voice is not as high pitch anymore but he still delivers Great vocals . Well all of the band members are pusching 60yo. And lets not forget the lead guitarr player kee marcello .he took over after John norum left the band in 1987. When they reunited in 2004 the plan was to have 2 guitarr players but they change there mind and John norum was back on lead guitarr. again. Kee marcello is an amazing guitarr player and he did the solo play in the song superstitous and lots of others.

    35 years🎂 in the movie Rocky 4.
Since the first release, sports arenas play this song often.
Europe performed this in Dancing with the Stars. This style fits the paso Doble.
Joey Tempest still can sing this! 🤯 His voice has not changed much! 🤯
Suggested next video: Rock the Night.

One of my all tome fave artists and such nice guys too …. Ive met them many times over the years and sat chatting pre gig too and having a laugh. They are still going today and working on the follow up to their 15th album Walk The Earth …. You need to listen to Rock The Night, Carrie & Cherokee from the Final Countdown album and then Superstitious, Open Your Heart, Seven Doors Hotel, Stormwind, Prisoners In Paradise, Got To Have Faith, Flames, Always The Pretenders, Hero, War Of Kings, Walk The Earth, Pictures, Days of Rock n Roll, Rainbow Bridge, Let The Good Times Rock & I’ll Cry For You …… some great hits and deep cuts there for you to listen to …… an amazing live act and to think The Final Countdown turned 30 years old back in 2016 & I was there at the Roundhouse in London for the taping of the official BluRay etc and they sounded just as good as they did when I saw them back in 1986 with my best friend Samm at the Playhouse in Edinburgh ….. we are still best friends and as mad on Europe and other bands we discovered back then ….. she’s even got her son educated in “good music” she caught him in his bedroom behind a closed door rocking out to Bon Jovi Living On A Prayer …….. very proud moment and I had a tear too …… got to listen to more of these guys and you’ll see why we love them so much !!!

C'est un bon morceau de Hard Rock dans sa plus pure tradition des années 80 tout simplement! En France, contrairement à ce que pensent beaucoup de gens, nous avons également ce genre de musique et même plus!!!!! TRUST, ADX, VULCAIN,WARNING........... etc!!!!!! ET j'ai oublier notre fierté GOJIRA!!!!!!

  • @dana.1546

This band and this song were amazing because even people, like me, who really didn't liked hard rock (besides a few killer tracks from Scorpions or Bon Jovi), liked this song because there are guitars, yes, but there is also amazing synth sounds, a killer voice (Joey Tempest's), cute guys and it was one hell of a smash hit all around the world.
There will many, many other hits after this one (first "Rock The Night", then the ballad "Carrie" then "Cherokee", "Superstitious" etc). Europe had 2 other albums before this one (the album is also called "The Final Countdown") but it's with this one that they made their worldwide breakthrough thanks to this song alone. And this song is as you said truly "EPIC". You found the right word to describe it.
