DIGGING THE GRAVE // LYRICS
Feel a pain so cold under the skin
As I dig the grave to bury these sins
Taste a misery so real that purity stains
Obsession with a thrill that possesses my veins
Reveling in depravity
As I drown in the agony
The entrance to nothingness
The eternal winter that's blacker than death
I walk in a void in the absence of magnificence
A pitch black misery of malevolence
Visions of tomorrow becoming irrelevant
When the plethoras of demise have become a feeling of decadence
Oh the old familiar shame
I buried all the pain away in the ashes and grey
Drifting out and astray
I dug the grave
The empty hole that keeps what's saved
And now I know that it's misanthropy that's killing me
Digging the grave
The sickness is tightening
Digging the grave
The sickness is tightening
Digging the grave
The sickness is tightening
Digging the grave
The sickness is tightening
Purify these stains
Digging the grave
That possess my veins
Digging the grave

Ive been out of the metal loop for a while but what the fuck am i feeling this is too good
I love that you love this!
Was just on your video for recording better video for guitar covers, so I can cover this song xD
The faceless is a hidden gem
Years later i can say this track truly is a technical death metal masterpiece.
ages like fine wine
NICE GUEST SOLO BY SQUIDWARD TENTACLES
He plays the clarinet, not flute.
@@Ensource This song features a clarinet.
that's at 4:04 right? @@lemonpaintify
Is mayonnaise an instrument?
@@Ensource it’s a flute the whole time lol
If they are gonna release shit like this every 10.000 years i won't mind being someday in the future a 90 years old man with 5 amazing Faceless records
Facundo Oblivion *10 songs.
😂
I think you mean every Ten Billion Years...
lmaooo
what the fuck :(
Eric Yeager December 1, dude
A solid jam from Michael and the Keene's!
legit this is what I call them too
Woah, give it up for Ron burgundy on the yazz flute
I was thinking that too so I figured it would be a comment already lol!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I pissed myself!
Haha!! They did sax last time around. What is next? Accordion? Trombone?
Sergio Flores (sax meme guy) probably doesn't play every instrument Kyle haha
LMAO
Was that... Was that a flute solo? BRILLIANT!!!
It`s a clarinet:)
Жигалов Михаил It’s Squidward Tentacles 😊
I'm impressed by the quality of the orchestration in this song. The flute solo was a really dope touch too.
What an epic tune, so much madness in one song.
That's the best way to describe this album. Madness. Sonically brought to life.
@@spectriaofficial how some people dont like it is unreal. so much shit talked about this album....its fucking AMAZING.
THAT FLUTE SOLO IS FUCKING EPIC
Ron Burgundy approved
shit is getting weird, but i like it.
very original.personal style.
jajaja si hermano!!
I agree, shits getting weird.. I feel It's because they realized that producing yet another album that sounded very similar to the past 3 albums wasn't going to fly.. especially with other bands stepping up to the plate recently.
I'm also a drummer biased listener, so there's by opinion FWIW.
But the last album didnt sound anything like the two before it. This is a natural progression from Autotheism.
Glad to hear your thoughts! Hopefully the rest of the album turns out good... I feel like they have some ground to cover.
Solo flute is beautiful❤
just remember, they can't play a show without those backing tracks!!!!
won't bother anyone listening to the album tho
Oh i know. I spent way too much money preordering this shit.
hahaha it will be worth your money spent on this album
You've never heard a flute OR a clarinet in real life, have you...
holy shit, Keene's vocals get me everytime.
Right?
The Faceless were one of my favorites and I still admire them through thick and thin and same with MK. He is one of the most flavorful modern guitarists and I love the thought process when writing. Transition riffs are so great and he is the master of alien riffs. The production is kind of small in terms of tones but the mix is easy to understand, and clean. Once you home your ears into the frequency its really "vinyl" sounding. Band is a perfect mix of cold and warm. Will always love these guys and the slick writing. Stay string MK! One of my biggest influences and I hope he stays strong to the music despite the hardships of life
Man I'm obsessed with this.
They got to include a bagpipe shred solo in a future record
From now on, we need a fucking flute solo in every metal song 😂
Allan Pv ever heard of folk metal?
folk metal just doing fine with flute, bagpipes and other traditional culture instrument.
Jethro Tull did that in the 70's tho
I didn't say The Faceless was the first band doing this...
Hands down, try Ayreon.
DAAAAAAAAMN, The Tourless really outdid themselves here.
Mark Escareno lol. Tourless not so much. I saw them at summer slaughter and honestly they sucked. I was so disappointed when they didn't even play anything heavy or fast.
The Tourless hahahahh
brandon moon Weird. They used to be flawless live.
It's the Adderall Admiral I heard they broke up so that's why they hadn't toured in so long. I guess they were out of practice and didn't even attempt to play any fast songs.
brandon moon Oh God yeah that sounds awful. I saw them during the Akeldama/ Planetary Duality years and they seriously sounded better in person than on their records.
The faceless symphonic black version.. this shit epic
Synphonyc blackened Tech death
Very Emperor
I HAVE TO SAY THE FACELESS IS ALWAYS AMAZING!
This sounds incredible. So keen for the new record!
Gay
James Norbert Ivanyi Would you say your Michael Keene? 😉
KEENE/10
Why is that?
Oh right. Yeah man, love these guys! Have always admired Mike's songwriting in particular.
I'm super keene for this new and experimental material, absolutely phenomenal work...
Love it and LOVE Keene's vocals!!! Thank you guys!!!!!!!!
They always have me stunned, truly the kings of the genre
yeap because SOP was the gods of the genre
I think it's outside of the genre now... I think they are... Transgenre.
Guillaume Lemaigre haha
Mid part is a masterpiece. It has Autotheist Movement part 1 and 3 vibes
I wasn't the only one who noticed it!
I just want the Re-Master of Planetary Duality that Keene promised...
It will happen next year for the 10th anniversary of planetary duality.
Why would they remaster that?
Because the mastering was never fully completed. Mike stated in an interview that due to time constraints set by Sumerian records, he was forced to master the entire album in one day, of which he literally spent 24 hours straight working on it and as a result, didn't get things to sound like he'd wanted it to due to listeners fatigue from spending so much time working on it at once.
Though it is worth noting that it sounds pretty damn good for album that was mastered in one day, mike is clearly a gifted sound engineer.
Mr.Keene said that’s something he really wanted to happen too
If one thing doesn't really change in their sound is the amazing guitar solos
Goddam it was beautiful
Tight ass song, can't wait for the whole thing
Elio Bizzotto only thing that can change it is when someone tells you that the guitarist doesnt use his pinky
It was a flute
I mean the one that starts at 2:27
That solo flute is absolutely mindbloging. Great job Keene! seriously great job and i love the blendness this band has explored now.
That was fucking incredible!
Itswritten like a while symphony, very ambient and dark, I'm sure Mozart and Beethoven would listen to the faceless if they were alive in this day in age because they understand and I'm sure can very much appreciated complex music, bravo gentlemen
Amazing!
Next level. Awesome!
Really miss the sound of planetary.. but this sounds strange and good at the same time :p.
Jorge Arriaga If you miss Planetary check out The Zenith Passage, Keene produced their stuff and they have that Planetary vibe
I agree. he's trying too hard to emulate opeth with the softer interludes and I see right through it.
I really fucking doubt he's TRYING to emulate Opeth.
Zyborggian It's SOOO blatant and obvious though. I'll find several clear examples with their Opeth counterparts and post later.
Zyborggian like at 1:54 on this track for example; so Opeth signature right there. I don't mind the influence being there, but this seems so intentional. I just think he could've found a better way to not be so obvious in trying to sound like Opeth's softer side. Here's a more obvious rip-off from a different band: Check out Meshuggah's "Mind's Mirror" at :30 and compare to The Faceless "Akeldama" intro.
Patiently waits for Richard Mauricio to post up a guitar cover....
Thank you for not making a song so damn fast and dense you can't enjoy it. Well done.
I always had high hopes for The Faceless... and unsurprisingly this single exceeded them. Bless.
The vocals, and some of the song, made me think of Extol
MartinNephilim SAME. Extol is underrated af
Yessssssss! Pre ordered!
This is sick! Love the experimentation, and the cleans were pretty successful imo. Can't wait to hear more!
cant wait for the tours
superior drummer :D
Když dá všechno za herák tak nemá na drummera :D
Can't believe they got Ron Burgundy to feat on this \m/
Lol aqualung
^ that would be Ian Anderson not Ron Burgundy lol
That opening high scream gives me goosebumps every time.
December 1st lmfao good one.
This is dope, can't believe the album is *actually* coming. lol
Only 3 more years, can't wait
Jacobthejewela I heard they are working on a new song this instant. So we should hear it in the next two years.
The type of song that my mother will enjoy listening full volume.
Guy on flute in the studio: 'im really not prepared'
Thank u faceless. Keene, best of luck too u brotha. Always been a fan
Love the black metal feel to this one
Where?
You must not black metal much to think tech death has a black metal feel to it.
Try listening to some Waffen SS, Satanic Warmaster, or treat yourself to some Grand Belial's Key and see if it even remotely "feels" like this. You'll find yourself "feeling" like Behemoth isn't black metal. =D
it has some emperor feeling to it, wich is consider some sort of blackmetal.
alchemy x dude this totally has a black metal vibe to it. There ARE other black metal bands you know?
Hauntr not only because the voice; I was about to say that it had some similarities with emperor too
the black metal genre is far more vast and varying than listening to those particular bands would lead one to believe. Obviously this isn't a black metal song, but I think there's definitely some parts that have a more blackened aesthetic, and Ken Sorceron's vocals sound pretty black metal.
One of perfect releases for Halloween. The other one is Rolo Tomassi
Moodown I'm stoked for new Rolo Tomassi. They're touring with the #12, but they're not coming anywhere near my home state. Bummer, man.
Those clean vocals gave me the chilllsss
I'm digging this!
I got spooked because of the day early release
andrew enriquez maybe they were releasing it at utc +0 or something, cause it's Halloween here
Everyone has something bad to pick out of this song... whether it be production, vocals, structure... that’s fine.. but I guess that’s why they wrote it, not us. This song is a masterpiece holy hell. It’s been on repeat for a few days now
1:53 to 3:00 mark is one of the best I've ever heard in music can listen to that section over and over again with Keenes Vocals just harmonizing and with the music changing too this album has really grown on to me alot and listen to it alot now I can relate to the lyrics like they are part of my life and gives me goosebumps and chills listening to sections in all the songs in this album but that part in this song is definitely my favorite wish we could get another album now and a tour the faceless is the band that got me in Tech metal and overall death metal genre and all thier work is fantastic and brilliant 👏
INSANE talent!
SUCH JETHRO TULL. He's gonna beat Metallica for the award AGAIN.
Ian Anderson
LOLLLLL THIS THREAD
Get Kenny G on the next single
KennyS montage song confirmed
Hopefully you mean Kenny Garret
BAHAHAHAHA!!!! BEST COMMENT. XD
I love how this song came out to us on Halloween! Amazing!
The last two minutes of this song are EVIL. Also the lyrics,
"The eternal winter that's blacker than death
I walk in a void in the absence of magnificence"
☠💀💀💀⚰
The last minute of this song is, from a drumming perspective, absolutely inhuman. These guys are aliens I swear.
Check out Archspire- Human Mumuration
Faceless is back, fuck ya
That final solo is face melting
Great work!
All three songs released so far have been fantastic.
Orchestra, pitch-fixed depraved singing-screams, flute solo. Damn this is interesting
fucking genius
This album sounds great, can't wait to get my vinyl copy in February
I will never go to see this band live again after the recent stunts they pulled, but i'll be DAMNED if I'm gonna pass up preorders for this! Just spent 82 dollars on new faceless material...
This guy sounds like Lord Dracula himself
F*CKIN BANGER
This excites us! Great job Faceless!
I was stuck in boot camp for 4 months, this was certainly one hell of a welcome back
The Memberless
The funky junkie can make tunes, I'll give him that.
But can he release it on time?
Made me laugh way to hard :D
Omg "the Funky Junkie"...so apt, so fitting lol
very very good imo. clean vocals always in the perfect moment
I'm impressed! They still have that faceless sound \m/
Should have hired Sonic Assault Studios to reamp your guitars and mix the album. This shit sounds thinner than the Olsen twins on a crack binge for weekssssss.
You mean Sonic Drive Studio? Dude's got the best tones hands down.
John Morrison i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who dislikes the tone of this song
same i think the song is very well written and would love to hear a good mix of this song
It'll be better on the album
When the music is too good to bitch about, there's always the tone. I'd listen to this through a potato and an hm2 and it'll still sound better than your band.
Bandcamp???
It's about time!!!
i love it
I mean the songs is aweseome, but does no one gets bothered by that incredible thin sounding production?
HeavyDude3000 has anyone heard the actual release yet? Wouldn't be surprised if people started putting out half mastered stuff so people dont just rip it off youtube.
What?? Idk what ur talking about but I bought the album and the production is better than anything I've heard even from bands like Atlantis Chronicles, Equipoise, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil, Inanimate Existence..... Must I go on? I'm an Audio Engineer also, and the production on this whole album is masterful.
@@muingould131 Disagree. This album's production is terrible. It's hard for me to listen to this album for long cause my ears hurt. P.S: I do music too. Compare this directly to Periphery- Reptile for example.
Yeah truth is the mix on the whole album feels slightly too thin/sharp. Not that there is no low end to it, the bass is clearly audible. But the drums are really dry sample sounding, the snare is way too loud at times and the guitars have too many mids. Sadly that's the tech death mix archetype, but the music is amazing
It's tech death. If you want some meaty chug shit go listen to djent, slam, or deathcore.
Should've started the song at 1:54
I wouldn't mind entire an song's worth of that groove.
Should have ended it there.
Michael Keene....Brilliant!!!Again!!!
the new songs are what I expected and didn't expect at the same time. that's how it should be.
ITS HERE. This is not a drill :D :D WHEEEEEZE
anyone remember Yyrkoon?
Yep.
jagdkotze fuck yes one of my favs
Yeah, Unhealthy Opera
They kicked ass.
Haven't listened to any metal in a couple of years, this was nice to come back to.
I think The Faceless can become the catalyst to make tech-death songs appeal to more people. Keene is a genius in his own right who can compose songs with brutal riffs with the added song-writing that has some pop-sensibility (which isn't a bad thing). When I saw that The Faceless were opening for Dillinger, I felt like it should have been the other way around. Hopefully this album really is worth the wait. Keene, if you're reading this, please continue to make great music for us and tour often. Ken with The Faceless seems like the perfect answer of black metal screams along with Keene's "cheezy jazz-singer-from-hell" counterpoints.
I just wish they had more gutterals. I knew as soon as he hired ken the lows would be gone😣
Let me mix the album.
Love it
This was seriously worth the wait!
1:53 The Faceless at its finest! That's the vibe i want to hear from The Faceless! Minor chord progression, Keene's vocals, love that shit!
Gotta say... I sure liked things better before the clean vocals were a thing.
I swear to god they have the same riff in everysingle song
Yeah man me too, the clean vocals are kinda lame melodically. I like clean vocals but not this kind. The music kicks ass tho
He's got great vocal but this time autotunage was too strong
I mean, it's miles ahead of Autotheism already. Akeldama blew my mind back when it came out. Hopes were so high for these guys, but Planetary Duality didn't quite live up, and Autotheism only got a couple play-throughs before I never listened to it again. The clean vocals just lead me to skip tracks. The groovy ear candy they had going for them in the first two albums is just slaughtered every time his clean vox kick in.
Are The Faceless competing for who can have the most thin, sterile production on their new album? Because I'm sure they'd win with this.
Don't get me wrong, the music is cool. Not a fan of these guys in the slightest, but this is pretty good and interesting by modern tech death standards. But the sound is shit and doesn't do the music any justice.
Completely disagree. Get some proper speakers.
Maybe I'm used to tech death mixes or am not a musician and don't hear what you're say but to me it sounds fine.
SinCaptor95 It could be RUclips's fault. Can you cite some albums as to what you reference as quality in your opinion.
I have a "proper" pair of Sennheisers. Does that count? The production seems very flat.
Why knock on this song, every faceless fan is stoked at this pre-release for hitting home perfectly
hahaha I am absolutely in love with the Djazz picolo solo, totally my favorite faceless song to date
I’m getting a major Opeth vibe.
Nathan Gifford probably why im liking it so much lol
I don't see it
MICHAEL KEENE IS GOD
A huge emperor influence here for sure. I love it. Beautiful
so much good
michael keene is addicted to heroin and its incredibly sad... because his compositions are killer
lol where did u here that?
im afraid about naming names because Sumerian would delete my comments and/or blacklist the musician i spoke to,
So let's just say i saw one of the faceless's touring members' other bands and he said it without a doubt, keenes heroin and pill problem is what causes them to miss so many shows/tours, ect.
It was a person who had very recently played/toured for them and who also plays for a popular tech-death band so his words carried a lot of weight to me
Despite being the headlining act and dropping singles from this new ablum, they had to miss the first show of Summer Slaughter '17, due to a drummer (their 7th i think?) leaving them last-second. This was the 2nd stop on the tour. It was my first time seeing the Faceless and I was hyped. However the general consensus among the crowd was that they would not be showing up to play at all. One guy said it was the fourth Faceless ticket he bought and he hadn't yet seen them live. (Not to overstate things but you're guaranteed on the Faceless FB page 50% of the comments say "oh are you actually gonna show up/start on time/not fuck up this show," ect.)
They of course started over 30 minutes late but ~10 minutes into it keene's guitar just stopped working and they couldn't fix it for the rest of their set. Dudes got all the sumerian money behind him and they couldn't restart the computer/keep a backup loaded and ready/get an actually guitar amp backup for like 25 minutes? unprofessional as FUCK. dude looked super fucked up on stage, half-heartedly playing a silent guitar and making dumb faces to the techs off-stage.
It was incredibly saddening and deeply embarrasing as a fellow musician, and long-time fan of his work. Drug problem aside, being a rock star is the priority and this dude is just a joke.
Just go see them exclusively on Summer Slaughter tours then. I've seen them from '14 and '17
