Like your mommy does, right...?
And if not your kids, definitely _their_ kids, or at least their companion robots.

This is an amazing song and performance. This was a HIT record. Definitly not an embarrassment. All the haters are out of their minds. This was a certified billboard hit. Listen to the audience. This is a classic. Musical theatre is underrated. It's like a slice of rock opera. Haters got no taste.
first time i seen it,wow, that was a cool performance
back then ,i thought it was corny, but not now, such good talant,
Was my favorite song as a kid... why was I born in gen z, counselors thought I wanted to be friends with these kids an I just looked at em like are you insane these "kids" worship trends & cry after gettin a Lil sucker punch school fights ain't even nothing to boast abt cuz they don't exist much like chivalry and anything else I grew up around there wasn't no iPads or RUclips on the mountain I grew up on it was news and pbs you had to move the satellite dish to switch between channels and if you where lucky Tuesday nights u got the splash zone 😂

i think we have it all wrong. the song itself transcends time. it's a banger! however, it's one of those songs that's good in studio and on an album. not really ideal for a live performance... AND THAT'S OKAY!!!Mann, my favorite band of all time are The Beatles. There's not a single song that i dont like.... HOWEVER: a lot of their songs were best in studio. its why they stopped doing live music. they were able to get creative I the studio and produce things they haven't done before. .. so by default, the songs made not have translated too well when playing in front of a live audience.
but anywhon for what the band (styx) had been up to that point, this was way too theatrical! you can tell it was led by Dennis and him only - we've heard several times the band wasn't really too into it. they should've came to an middle ground - but they didn't & ultimately this song itself is what I think sparked the separation of them
The audience’s response says it all. This was a hit song.
LIVE even! WOWZIE!
One of my favorite songs of all time
Wow, you must have only heard 4 songs
@@hotdoggravy Gimme The Grand Illusion! LIVE!
Epic! A shame they couldn’t continue this path. This was innovative but they fell back to be doing rock by numbers or as it was called “adult oriented rock”.
Imagine that.. A Tune that surely was AHEAD of it's time.. Talking High Tech AND Censorship.. Things that have COME to past!

It's like a broadway musical show parody love it
Que bien hablo del futuro, estando en época donde los robots y las IA todavía no existían…
Como dice otro comentario, soy el hijo que amaría esta canción
That voiceeee ♥️♥️♥️ Shout it out baby
This is absolutely epic! It was already an all time great but live hits differently, absolutely amazing!
The guitar solo at end is amazing.

@@ROB-cc5nv fun fact majority of "live" shows especially in the 70s-80s are lip synced/dubbed. Or if theyre filming to have a live CD/TAPE version, its still lip synced
@@jarrod4115 This isn't lip synced, though. They use the backing track sure, but that's Dennis singing live.
@@andrewkelley434That, Heavy Metal Poisoning and Haven’t We Been There Before were all sung live but used prerecorded instrumental tracks with the backing vocals left alone so they had props to move around.

Great work
upsetting that this is one of there lesser played songs in concert styx best song 100%
That might be because it's part of a concept album.
They played it last night for the encore.
I say second best song, behind renegade
They played this and renegade as encores the other night when i saw them
Thanks for uploading!
Esse álbum conceitual é maravilhoso. A apresentação artística do Denis DeYoung me faz lembrar Peter Gabriel no auge. Vocal maravilhoso, instrumental espetacular, nota 10
Great song if it's a Broadway show but this is not a rock show. The look on Tommy's face says it all.
Tommy's face gives me that Luke Skywalker vibes.
Genesis did The Lamb in theaters and Peter Gabriel wore costumes. Pink Floyd performed The Wall. Queensryche performed Operation Mindcrime. It was ROCK THEATER NOT BROADWAY!
Kilroy predicted U2, Green Day (American Idiot), Billy Joel (Movin' Out), Sting, Tommy (The Who) all becoming Broadway musicals. This was ROCK THEATER AT ITS FINEST! KISS WERE THEATRICAL!
This puts the Y in Stynx.

I was there...Passed out along with about 100 other people. I was being squashed to death on front row. People wouldn't stop pushing and couldn't breathe. Plus, The heat from that show was unbearable and unbelievable if you could hold up.

was much better live on stage in Memphis Tn July 83' opening the show with it
Retires 2022-2025
How did they cut off the high note like that?! Ugh ruined a perfect moment.
He didn’t sustain it long as he had a full show ahead and conserved his voice. Tommy on the other hand screamed like a banshee on Cold War and Renegade and held the screaming for ten seconds
I can see why they fired him.people came to see music not a play
Tommy looks like Luke Skywalker. 😂
Tommy Shaw was totally not into it, lol.
Tommy was coked up
His bandmates are still afraid, lol.

This is sooo bad, like Spinal Tap meets Garth, meets SNL.
Dennis with his ego killed the band with this terrible concept
And yet fans love it and the band without DeYoung still plays it today. The only ones with ego are Shaw and Young.
@@TheFergyme this troll/bot.Tommy Shaw suck up watching and commenting on Mr. Roboto is a tip off
Tommy Shaw is a such a hypocrite. On VH1 behind the music. he sort of mock the damn Kilroy tour as being a embarrassment. plus he gripe about not being too happy with the whole album but sort of like Mr. Roboto. what more surprising is that the band begrudgingly started to play Mr. Roboto at a few shows. I have no doubt that Styx wanted to really get as far away from concept albums as much as possible after Brave New World. Yes, before Iron Maiden had an album called Brave New World. Styx last album with Dennis Deyoung was another concept album. well, they jump back into the well again after a few decades and did The Mission. a concept album without DDY.
Damn straight. The success of the previous concept album, paradise theater is overlooked as well.
@@psions555 I suspect that Paradise Theaters the band thought it was gonna be the last time. DDY was smart to do a straight non-concept when he rejoined Styx without Show involve.. Edge Of The Century was a pretty good album.
@@chrisstory563Styx was to do a back to basics album after Kilroy but Tommy quit like a bitch
@@TJR-ClassicRockCorner0124 I think he may have been extemely upset and embarrassed by the kilroy was here tour that may have him feel like. SCREW YOU GUYS, I'mmmm goooooing solo.
the only new original music after Kilroy before edge of the century was Music Time. a studio track from the live album caught in the act. a song that sounded like a left over throw away track from Kilroy was here.
@@chrisstory563 Music Time and Tommy’s Girls With Guns were recorded for Caught in the Act but since Tommy was quitting they scrapped Girls With Guns.
“too much technology”. Dennis DeYoung called it in 1983. Beyond brilliant.
Dennis DeYoung called out fake news in 1977 too. Grand Illusion
“Machines dehumanize”
That's what I call a rock opera :)
People mock this song yet nobody’s gonna mention JY’s haircut???

Dennis DeYoung: the crowds from United Kingdom UK
Just saw these fine folks in a small venue. Incredble energy and very crisp. One of the best shows I've seen, hope to see them again!
what your definition of reality? A
Listen carefully to the message
I always thought this song was super deep. I think of all the technology and machines that have saved human lives. They're not just machines, they're saviors just like humans. But like humans, they can be evil(or used for evil by other humans).
Parts always from 🇯🇵
This is 5 yesrs before dennis mr deyoung retired
Dennis hasn't retired. He still performs as "the music of styx" with his band. He sings as well as ever and he is quite a mover too!
...Tommy Shaw all 'wtf is happening?'😅
He was on drugs
A?
broadway you ain't
They actually got booed off stage once for playing this song at a music festival in the 80s. Theatrics was not Styx's thing, they were a ROCK BAND!
Crazy people doing that. This song is an epic jam.
@@samsquanch1996That was a lie. No one booed Styx, they were booing the authorities who curbed beer sales at Texxas Jam. In between stage changes of equipment the authorities told the crowd that the Texas Blue Law of No Beer Sales kicked in after drunken fans fought. About 30-40% left but those who stayed LOVED THE SHOW. This was a Rock Theater performance NOT BROADWAY.
Green Day, Sting, U2, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel made musicals for Broadway.
Tommy Shaw hated Dennis Deyoung so much at this point. He was so embarrassed to be on stage for this tour.
Tommy was on drugs and his judgment was to say the least impaired.
I’ve watched this entire concert on VHS since I was a kid and I always thought it was just part of the act and the story that goes along with the performance: “Caught in the Act”.
The downfall of what could have been the best hair band ever. Styx had a harmony that was untouchable and a sound unmatched. Then this crap broke up the band. I’ve seen Styx 7 times from 1978 to present. I was confused when I sat threw the first hour of the Robato tour. Very disappointed that year. With a rebound without Dennis Deyoung I fell in love with their music again and have never not had a CD in my cars.
Conheci esta música através do seriado japonês Densha Otoko.
Is there more to this show?
The band was emberassed as hell to play this song - and with good reason. It killed their career and audience resulting in their split. From large arenas to little theatres..... cringe worthy although catchy in retrospect.
Horse hockey. Shaw and Young killed the band.
The song was a hit the only thing that killed the band was Shaw and Young when they got rid of Dennis.
@@TheFergyme Tommy quit and Dennis REFUSED TO REPLACE HIM. Tommy and JY were the Van Halen brothers and Roger Waters. Tommy and JY kicking Dennis out was the equal of Roger Waters kicking Rick Wright out of Pink Floyd and easing David Gilmour out of the band. When Roger took his ball and quit, David and Nick Mason rehired Rick Wright and eventually reinstated Rick and also rehired Storm Thorgerson (whom Roger also kicked out) and Bob Ezrin (who Roger banned from the Pink Floyd camp).
Not when you write most of the music and sing most of the lyrics. NOT the same as Rick Wright@@terrencereardon6374
This song is 🔥 especially the breakdown the robot voice and ominous fading keyboard.
People are so quick to be closed minded.
If they would lighten up this song is a killer track and a lot of fun.
The amount of cringe Tommy Shaw is feeling, oozes through the screen and my speakers....
