    Styx - Renegade Lyrics:
Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life
from the long arm of the law
Lawman has put an end to my running
and I'm so far from my home
Oh Mama, I can hear you a-cryin'
you're so scared and all alone
Hangman is comin' down from the gallows
And I don't have very long (yeah!)
The jig is up, the news is out
    They finally found me
The renegade who had it made
    Retrieved for a bounty
    Nevermore to go astray
This'll be the end today of the wanted man
Oh Mama, I've been years on the lam
and had a high price on my head
Lawman said, "Get him dead or alive"
I was for sure he'll see me dead
Dear Mama, I can hear you a-cryin'
you're so scared and all alone
Hangman is comin' down from the gallows
and I don't have very long
The jig is up, the news is out
    They finally found me
The renegade who had it made
    Retrieved for a bounty
    Nevermore to go astray
The judge will have revenge today
    On the wanted man
Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life
from the long arm of the law
Hangman is comin' down from the gallows
and I don't have very long
The jig is up, the news is out
    They finally found me
The renegade who had it made
    Retrieved for a bounty
    Nevermore to go astray
    This'll be the end today
    Of the wanted man
    The wanted man
    And I don't wanna go
    No, no
Mama, don't let 'em take me!
    Hey, hey

Tommy Shaw and JY (James Young) usually traded off leads depending on who wrote the song. As I mentioned earlier, JY asked Tommy if he could play lead on this one. I know Tommy played lead on one of JY's songs but can't recall which one. My favorite Tommy Shaw song is "Crystal Ball", his first contribution to Styx. I think one of the best album was "Equinox", recorded right before Tommy Shaw joined the band. Give that album a listen sometime.

Aside from the song itself.. this is why I chose to get through the 80s in a complete fog which I barely remember today 👍

you imagine correct I lived through this. Mr Roboto sucks and this changed the band. That was Dennis baby. Tommy and DY are rockers. this song is representative of the time 1977-1979 then the crap started.

@@daviddiamond1128 yep, almost every rock band veered off course in the 80s..
      everything started getting pop-ish and techno-ish, disco-ish
Remember the KISS videos with the head bands and they looked like aerobic workout videos?? 🤦.. 🤷... 🤬
But that was mostly pretty boy Paul and Gene just followed his lead.
Almost every band made a lot of mistakes during those times after the 70s it was so sad and pathetic.
And then came all the pretty boy, hair bands..
