Hey Jason! I think you forgot to change the audio quality from 16-bit 2Ch to 24-bit 2Ch on your Sony camera. Yes! With that hot shoe it can record 24-bit directly to the video file instead of 16-bit. And yes it sounds richer either way from your test. This is pushing me to get the new DJI Mic 2, despite being happy with the first version. I would still use the older version for mixing more than 4 people talking together if needed via XLR or even using 3.5mm splitter with internal recording just in case.
OMG THANK YOU. I thought my adapter was defective and was about to initiate an exchange. The updates worked, now my A7RV gets clean audio from the MMi to mic adapter!
It sounds way better through the Hotshoe. Also nice to see you mention the Godox one. I hope there will be a Lumix version, they also have an XLR Adapter using the Hotshoe...that would be awesome!
A bit late but I have just run the same test but in different circumstances - recording quiet nature sounds. With quiet sounds I would say the quality and SNR are markedly better with the cable as you can set the audio to record at an appropriate level (instead of the adapter auto setting which is way too low). This was using the DJI Mic 2.
It is just crazy Tascam made similar adapters for many different brands, but not Sony now dji just tapped to the MI Shoe. Nice to see more innovation in the most underutilized Sony camera feature.
Great work! the MI hot shoe adapter making less interference to audio, also richer in audio quality too! hope every mic in the future have this awesome features!
What cage do you have on your ZV-E1 that fits the Dji mic 2 adapter. I have the small rig cage and it does not have the correct spacing to fit the Dji mic adapter into the multipurpose show.
If DJi makes a Fujifilm version might actually get the DJi Mic 2. I am curious if that helps remove the DJI mic's somewhat high self noise when the audio isn't recorded internally.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I don’t know how the hotshoe works but I can imagine that the adapter hands off a direct digital signal from the DJI receiver directly to the camera. Instead of converting the signal to an analog signal for the 3.5mm cable which is sent to the camera which converts this analog signal to a digital again. But that’s just a theory.
Looks pretty bulky, I assume my top handle couldn’t work with it, looks like it could be close. Have you experienced the audio walking on these? My Rode Wireless Pros seem to be dead on, but with a 10-20 minute take with the DJI, the audio slowly slips out of sync.
You won't be able to use a top handle no. I use a hotshoe relocator when I use my sony mics. I honestly haven't used it for long interviews. I always hit record on the device to get the 32bit float file instead
I got this adapter today. It doesn’t work with my FX30. And yes, it has the latest firmware on the TX, the receiver, and the FX30. I get no audio. I am going to return it.
Okay it's fantastic but...what if I wanted to use the sled with DJI mic and then also the DJI Rodeplus as a second ambient microphone using the cable and therefore having two microphones on the camera?
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I own an fx3, a7siii and a7cii. Initially it wouldn’t connect and if it did, it didn’t route any audio. Even made a video about it, a few others mentioned same issue. Then realized my DJI mic 2’s needed a firmware update and now the adapter connects seamlessly!
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yup, I get the little camera emblem with a green check mark now on all 3. I wasn’t getting that prior to updating the DJI Mic 2’s. I was even about to return the adapter lol glad I saw your video first!
Jason, it’s been awhile since DJI has released any firmware update for the OSMO Pocket 3. Have you heard of anything coming on the horizon for the OP3 ?
Saw in one shot he had a cage on the camera and could still get the adapter plugged in. Anyone know if the asap can be used with the Falcam Cage on a ZV-E1?
Hey Jason, what cage do you have on there? I just realized my smallrig cage won't give the adapter enough clearance to actually connect the pins. So frustrated
This directly addresses to my comment a few months ago. I actually seen videos of people in China with something like this . Now if DJI or some does this die the FX6 it will really be great
With the adapter when you press record on the camera, can it trigger the DJI Mic to record as well? That way you get the internal camera recording as a scratch track and 32 bit version from the mics to synchronize in post
I think you've missed on the way you were comparing the two tipes of connections. An easier and more precise way would be recording dialogs, music or whatever played from a good set of speakers in a closed ambient at the same distance using the same audio clips than overlay both and see if the waveforms have differences 😊
Mine was working for a week or two and now the message I’m getting from the camera is not compatible. That happens soon as I connect the receiver to the adapter that’s on the hot shoe :/
My ZV-E1 is sadly not supported at the moment. Actually it really has to deliver a better quality. Because it skips to process the signal from digital to analoge for the cord and process back to digital.
It's sad that it doesn't work for the Sony zv1 :( I was dumb to buy it without even researching. Well, I guess I now have a stronger case to buy a new camera. 🤣😅🤣
It sounds better through the shoe, but still really need to EQ that muddiness out. Ruthlessly cut the lower mid and raise the 10kHz like there's no tomorrow.
Their problem is these Asian companies have direct access to this tech at direct cost. Companies like Rode, GoPro being based out of their native countries have to 3rd party components for their products costing them more. They have to outsource for Asian companies to built chips and put in big orders for components for their stuff while DJI/insta360 and some of these other Asian based companies practically makes this stuff themself and since they manufacture their own stuff (and if not, being in Asia they can get stuff made for dirt cheap) and don't have to worry about paying large salaries for select employees in their native land. Everything is cheap and easily accessible and I think Asian companies are now kicking this exploitation into high gear
Why is the sound quality so terrible on a video that is trying to address something related to sound recording? Is this what the mic sounds like? It’s hard to make a “with/without adapter” comparison. Not throwing shade, just a question, trying to learn.
@@JasonMorrisphotocinemaok so I rewatched and I can tell a positive difference with the adapter compared to the 3.5mm jack. It does still sound a little muddy and almost blown out, but it’s not nearly as bad as when I watched this morning - I might’ve had my volume turned up too loud on my iPhone 13PM, and the contrast between your studio mic and the DJI mics made either iteration of the DJI sound worse in comparison - your studio mic sounds absolutely amazing which showcased that contrast when swapping between systems in the video.
