The video was interrupted by some woman wielding very sharp scissors, it took me a while to realise it wasn’t anyone with whom you are associated expressing their intent to do you harm as a result of the bank balance. It’s impressive , I’d love the control it gives when shooting solo, which is all the time with my Fujifilm XH2S . Hang on I can hear the scissors again!

I finally got mine. All extras are from Smallrig. I put the wooden handle with an NPF battery plate on top on the left. Put two rails underneath and put the Lidar underneath the lens and the motor on the right side. I switched around the Focus Grip so it can mount on the right side as Im right handed. I have a BMPCC 6K so I use the NPF battery for long walks sightseeing that goes ontop of the wooden handle. Going on Safari in a few weeks so I will use a 90 V mount battery on that back of the rails pointed down words so I can leave in it on the edge of the safari vehicle resting on sandbags. Have another part coming in so I can quickly take off the Handles and switch to DJI RS4 Pro with a NPF battery mount on the side of the gimbal. Right now I cant get it to balance as I think its to tall and the new rail base plate will lower it. Right now its as compact as I can get and dont see any others that have done it the same way. Anyone wants a pic let me know and you or someone else can make a tutorial.

Hey Sam, I film primarily with anamorphics but the Moment anamorphic adapter does not have electronic focus. Similarly, the new Black Magic Pixis doesn’t have autofocus, but with this DJI kit I would be able to get auto focus and even zoom on a telephoto lens into the Pixis. The only downside is the increased cost, complexity, and how to configure the handle and everything. Personally, I’d rather the option of a control box which then uses whichever monitor you have to select focus points and subjects and stuff, but that’s just me.

I'm very intrigued by this new system from DJI! As someone who is getting more into RUclips and filming myself, I really prefer to use manual focus cinema lenses as I just love the look of them. But not having autofocus when filming yourself is really tough sometimes. I held out on buying the LiDAR rangefinder for my RS3 Pro because I was fine pulling focus manually when shooting other subjects. But when it comes to filming myself, I don't want to have to setup a gimbal on a tripod and waste time balancing lenses. Not needing the gimbal, having autofocus on a manual focus lens, and the beautiful grip and wheel system... yeah, I'll probably end up forking up the cash for this one!

But you can’t argue, this is the cheapest professional version of a focus assist system. The hand remote only cost around 50K from Arri. So , well done DJI. Heading for the first Oscar nomination.

hype levels 📈 then I saw the price 😩 but I guess it's not that bad lol 🤷🏻‍♂ considering the tech that's involved. one day I'd like to jump into the Lidar system, but until then I'm ok with the good ol manual focus lol

Btw @samholland quick lumix S5II question, when you record audio into your S5iix do you set the audio gain record level setting to standard, or low? (I think low is for "loud environments" and gives -12db)

How easy is this to transfer from handheld/tripod to a DJI gimbal? I use IRIX lenses which work great with the RS3 and focus motors, but not so great when you want to switch to handheld/tripod for part of a shoot. It would be great if you could just pull it off the gimbal and put onto a tripod or handheld

  • @Fabianvolf

What you described at 9:55 is possible at least with my Ronin RS3 and Sony A74. You can bind a Ronin button to switch AF on/off so it won't focus on a subject passing the frame. It's also handy if you loose focus and just double press it to give the camera the command to "refocus".

so what do you do when you wanna do other types of shots ( further away) or use a 85mm+ lense to get stuff.. - as far as i understand the device simply does not focus that far - is that correct?

@@UnchartedWorlds$140. I got one with this, one with rs4 pro, then bought the one for all 3. I feel like I'm rarely going to use all 3 but I do have 3 zoom cine lenses so possibly. Also be aware some lenses you will need 2 rails to stagger the motors if motors get in way of each other due to ring spacing. Not a huge deal.
Also make sure you label them as lenses are stored in the motor, not the lidar. So make one dedicated to focus.

Expensive, maybe. Depends! If you are comparing it with arri, or Preston kits it’s stupid cheap. However, for those of us working in that world, we make money with our gear by renting it to the production we are working on.
To get lidar and full fiz abilities, $1800 is a steal.

Hey! Great video, awesome job. I'm curious, since you're able to power the focus pro via V-mount/external battery. If plugged in externally, does it work without the grip attached? Would be awesome to attach it to the Tilta Ring grip to use as follow focus, it would be much smaller without DJI's battery grip attached.

Can you use the same lidar sensor with something like the RS3 so you CAN use a gimbal with the same system or go with this handheld? I would love this system for my films because I don’t usually use Gimbals for things like that, but I love the tracking with the Lidar/Gimbal combo for events when the speaker moves around and I’m a small crew (often by myself). I wouldn’t want to get two whole systems if I can get the one LiDAR sensor, then different accessories to pair with it as needed in different scenarios.
