    Hey you. You are so sweet. It's hard for people who aren't transgender to understand transgenders. But you're just talking to the camera like you would talk to a friend, and that's really really cool. And you're so nice!! I don't see any hate or bitterness in you. Which is hard because I'm sure you've gone through a lot of hurt and pain, it's easy to lash out in anger. But you seem like you're conquering it, you're very strong Skylar. It's refreshing, cool to hear your story. You're going to influence a lot of people. (: keep it up!! subscribing!

    This was really interesting to watch as someone who does not identify as transgender. I always enjoy hearing peoples' stories and experiences. What a chaotic process. But look at how far you've come! Happy for you and everyone who fights the good fight to live in congruence of who they are.

    Sky, I felt the same way when my name was legally changed. I started the process in September 2015, but didn't get my court date until March of this year. I still have some very important documents in my birth name like my insurance cards *cringe* That is why I avoid going to the hospital at any cost. Anyways, I love you man and I miss you. Glad to see you're doing good.

    My whole life I've felt uncomfortable with acting as a girl. I didn't like "feminine" clothing or being referred to that way. I never knew why I liked acting as a boy more than a girl. It wasn't even until high school where I was actually exposed to the LGBT+ world (I was in private school until middle school, my friend in middle school is pansexual and they were the first person I met in LGBT), and near the end of my senior year I learned about gender identity, and I thought to myself "am I a girl?" I kept these thoughts to myself until I entered college. After my first year I said to myself "that's it" and cut all my hair off. I then found the term genderfluid and decided to try it out. I told my friends and tried it. A few months ago I started thinking again, I don't think this fits. So by now I'm in my second year of college and I found "Demiboy". So now I use he/they pronouns I'm out to my friends and at school, but not at home (my parents are kinda.. uh bad about this stuff so I can't come out to them). And I've been making a list of names I like and would like to be called. And I just wanted to say I really like your videos, and they honestly give me hope for the future. And one day I hope that I can be seen by everyone as the boy I am.

    Idk if you know the answer to this, but your drivers license story reminded me: can I still travel with a passport that has my old name on it? I might go to Canada (I live in the US, so I'd be driving across the border) in a couple weeks and don't have time to change my passport before then

    • @jaelikesjackalopes
      @jaelikesjackalopes 7 лет назад

      I feel like if they don't ask for any id other than your passport and it's not expired they have no reason to know there's a discrepancy. But that means you should probably not be in the drivers seat bc they could reasonable want to see a license from the driver. But I've never driven across a border only flown so idk what border crossing is like.

    • @skylarkeleven
      @skylarkeleven  7 лет назад +2

      technically, you could face issue if you have a drivers license with X name and X gender and a passport with Y name and Y gender. if your drivers license is already changed, bring that plus your name change documents with you. let them know you are in process of getting your new passport with the right name, but that this one is still valid with this info. do a little bit of research :) but basically, when i crossed over to canada in a car, they just looked at all our passports or IDs. we were 5 trans guys, all in different stages of name/gender change. we all got through :)

    • @wewantyourblo0d
      @wewantyourblo0d 7 лет назад

      thanks for the advice, all! bringing my name change documents with me is a good idea, I don't have my drivers license changed yet either but luckily I won't be the one driving :) hopefully just seeing the name change documents and my passport will be fine.

    i find this interesting because im from MA as well but i had a smoother name change experience (im not trans im non-binary/agender not sure yet). Mine lasted when i finally got to it and stuck with it like 2 1/2 months. The other times it took longer to hand back the first papers because im a procrastinator xD.
    Oh and i didnt have to go to court because at least where i live in MA (not sure if its the same where you live) but you only go to court if someone objectifies that they dont want you to change your name thus having to go to court. I didnt have that so i didnt have to go and got my name changed earlier (it was legally changed July 6th and ive been out as London since 2014)

    Personally, I'm like the name that I was given at birth, and observing my father's problems, I can try being a Ken Coleman 2.0. I'm not sure what gender identity I am, but personally feel (to quote Romeo, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet". My online gaming avatars however have names that are more feminine. With Second Life, I picked up the name Riley (being fan of both a fan of "Girl Meets World" and a Wailin' Jennys song named "Bold Riley". Then, last summer, I took an online personality quiz for "Royal Names", and I got "Kendall". It's a Bostonian name, I'd still be K. Coleman as an illustrator, it's gender neutral, and its nickname is "Kenny", a name that I regularly went by until I was 26. The name "Kenny" was something that I was okay with. Personally I liked it, but I saw in the world around me that my name was often a but of jokes. In TV shows, it's a common name for geeky characters who don't fit in, as soon as South Park premiered, I regularly heard the "You killed Kenny." line in the school hallways. In high school, a teacher called me "Columbine Kenny" for four years because I was a social outcast whose face resembled Dylan Klebold (I began my freshman year 5 months after the shooting). Shortening my name to "Ken" was my therapist's suggestion because because people often called me "Kenny" at work as a way to talk down to me.
    Now, I'm "Ken" to many friends, some of my family and friends that I've met in 2010 or later, but otherwise, it's usually "Kenny". I do have a genderqueer friend who's uncomfortable talking to most men (my feminine side makes me one of the exceptions). When the friend asked me what I'd like them to call me after our talk on gender identity, I told her that if they felt more comfortable seeing my feminine side in the forefront, and calling me "Kenny", that's fine as long as they don't do it in any demeaning way.

    Oh gosh. this reminds me of my name change to husband's last name. first to the social security office, then to dmv, then I tried to get a passport didn't have the right birth certificate. had to call the county I was born in, find out hospital I was born in was demolished. will take a few days, then I get my birth certificate FINALLY. I fill out all the forms for the passport and include a copy of my marriage certificate, birth certificate, my new id, my ssn with my new name, fill out the form with my new name and send it out.
    the passport arrives with my new last name misspelled.
    FUUUUUU.
    I sent them everything with my correct new last name. they could have checked just one form and viola.
    so then I had to drive to the San Francisco passport place (which is a 2.5 hour drive). get in line. show the clerk that my last name is wrong and they say to come back at the end of the day to pick up the new one...
    so $300, multiple appointments, a day trip out of town, and i finally have everything.
    my advice is if you don't need to change your name DON'T. the worst part of it all was I was kinda meh about changing my name and thought it would be easy because fuck women change their last names all the time for centuries, the system should be easy.
    I was wrong.

    I laughed because when I applied for greencard I had the SAME wrong ink letter! And Sweden don't have birth certificates so I needed a specific one. I brought it, sent it, it was wrong. I had mom get it, send it to us so we could send it to them. I ask what they need and they need "one for abroad countries with a stamp" so mom yet again ask for it to the Swedish people, gets it mailed to her so she can mail to us so I can mail to them. It was finally the right one.... but another paper was wrong AND THEY COULDN'T TELL ME EARLIER? They were in contact with us so many times and they told us one thing at the time... and yes my middle name letter was also wrong but instead I had to write it out. Sigh. Soon I can apply for citizenship and as soon as I am a full citizen I want to change my name. I want both things done but getting all paperwork correct doesn't feel fun.

      So true! My mom told me that she originally wanted to name me Elisabetta (after a character in Bram Stoker's Dracula?) but she didn't want me to have a weird name that might get me made fun of.
      aaaaaaaand I picked a fucking weird name XD
