I am a psychotherapist and I have put you on my website for clients and others to be referred to you about transgender concerns. Your videos and your story is excellent. I am happy to be able to refer to my clients and others to your videos. Much appreciation, Andrew M. Prokopis
Sky, you are such an amazing communicator. When you said "if there is any way I can communicate in a way to help you understand," it took me back to the book "Please Understand Me." Thanks for always being awesome and thoughtful :)
The amount of times she said HE'S MY SON was just.. ugh.. so beautiful that she acknowledges that and emphasis it is so beautiful of her. Probably the worlds greatest mom.
Skylar and Mom you´re both such inspiring lovely souls! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful relationship that you have as a family. It really does give people hope, young Trans teenagers, even kids have so many obstacles and difficult challenges to face and being able to see this makes things better. Big hugs from our family to yours!
Just watched the Q&A via Upworthy. I gotta say, while my parents were indeed supportive and especially my Dad had a reaction similar to your Mom's ("Okay, I don't know anything about that, what exactly do we do now?"), they were nowhere nearly as vocal and as open as your Mom. So, I guess I just wanted to give you guys a big thumbs-up for your awesomness. Please tell your Mom that her answers really helped me to understand my own mother's feelings better and it brought me closer to her, which is saying something after over ten years on T. Keep your work up Sky, you're really making a difference there.
This video made me cry. Your mom is so loving and I know my mom will be also, I think that's why it made me cry. Love you guys! keep the positivity up:)
He is very fortunate to have such an understanding parent, I would have reacted the way Beth Stern's mother reacted upon hearing she was marrying Howard. I would accept my childs decision but would need some time to mourn, scream and cry hysterically (and hide the photos because I know that some transgender people do not like seeing those around).
dude, I'm sure you're already aware of this but you are soooo lucky to have such a strong advocate that is already so close to you in so many ways. I wish I had this open relationship with someone.
OMG Mama Sky is amazing 3 She is exactly what a great mother/parent should be. You can see how much she loves you. I find it so beautiful she has taken this journey with you and has supported, accepted, chosen to learn and understand what you need and unconditionally loved you throughout. That is everything.
This video made me cry, I wish my mom would be as accepting as your mom. She said that if I do transition then I can't talk to her or my sister and that I'm kicked out of the house. If I even bring it up I get grounded :'(
Wow, your mom calls you he and your name! Geez, your lucky. My parents REFUSE to call me she or my new legal name. Even though I'm legally female and all that jazz. It's so embarrassing to go out in public with them to. It's been years like this. Needless to say I don't talk to them anymore. They lost their child. They say they "love" me yet the verbally and physically abuse and it's clear they don't love ME. They just love the "idea" of me. Sigh. I'm envious of you. oh well, good luck hun =)
Well your beautiful self shouldn't have to go through that. I'm glad you separated yourself from that kinda negativity. You are a very pretty lady by the way!
That's tough. My name is Charlie. For about 5 months my dad didn't accept the fact that I'm a boy not a girl. A few weeks ago he told me that if I was sure about it he would take me to the doctor and let me talk to him about testosterone shots. I can't wait to actually become a boy. I mean it's so surreal.
Your mom seems so chill, haha I kinda wish my mom was like that. I hope that one day I'll have the courage to come out to her too one day! Awesome vid btw :)
Hi! What you both said about communication helped me doing the first move with my parents. I'm out with them and they're cool with it but we don't talk about me being trans anymore, I think they're at the "Okay so what are we supposed to do" level. We are french, so I translated this video and gave them the script I had written, to "break the ice" (does this expression even exist in english?!) and to start teaching them about transidentities. I hope it doesn't bother you that I did it! Thanks for your videos they're great and you're a cool guy!
My name is Charlie formerly known as Charlotte. I'm 16 years old. I'm going to the doctor on Friday this week. I can't wait to be a boy!!!!!!!!! I'm excited. My dad wasn't excited at first because he didn't want to lose his little girl, but he has been with me every step of the way. My best friend Username Here has been an amazing friend throughout all of this. She has autism however and I don't know if she understands all of this I just know she has been very supportive of me as a person and one of the few people at school who doesn't say I'm a girl. She's been calling me a boy since we were 14. Since before I figured out that I am a boy. My mother died a few years ago to cancer but I think if she were here right now she would be very happy for me.
You are so brave to come out to your mom. Im gay and im still too afraid to come out to my mom. or my whole family actually... i came out to my sister and she was pretty shocked but glad she accepted :)
Hi sky! I can see your feminine side here on this video, your gestures maybe. Hehe. I enjoyed watching this, your mom is so cool. You are very close. Loved it!
How long was your recovery after hysterectomy? Did you have hormonal imbalance or got any kind of menopausal symptoms? How did you treat those side effects?
I told my mum that I'm questioning my gender, although my entire life I've been confused and I started researching the trans community when I was twelve. She doesn't need to know that yet I suppose. But she kind of just dismissed it, and it hasn't been brought up since, and it's something I worry about a lot :/
Hi Sky, I just stumbled on your channel. I have a question and maybe you have already answered it in previous videos. I'm not sure how you feel about having biological children in the future, but I wonder before the hysterectomy, did you consider the option to save your genetic material? In case you decide to have biological children later on in life? Just curious is all.
So, I've been looking for just the right video to post this on, and I think this one is perfect. I came out to my mom a few days ago, and have been dropping hints since freshman year that I am trans. I figured that since she has tons of gay friends and even family she would be supportive. Quite the opposite. She is not supportive or helpful at all. The rest of my family are homophobic/transphobic and super religious, so I have NOBODY to turn to. I've even lost a few friends in the process. Advice, anyone?
+Dark Music I fear to say that in your case, it is really hard to give out advice like this. Just out of curiosity, what direction are you (willing) to go? MtF or FtM? Anyways, that is irrelevant. Unfortunately, you are on your own now. You need to filter out those who call themselves "friends", and find who's really and truly supportive of YOU. Not that other person you've probably been acting like. I mean you, as in "YOU"! If you wish to transform, then it is your full right to do so. But you have got to be ready to make HUGE sacrifices. First, if you're still a minor, WAIT until you're at least 18 years old. Get a job. Save up. Move out. BE YOURSELF. Look for friends who can possibly let you move in, even if temporarily, at least. But always remember, you always will need a therapist's consultation before anything major (obviously). Do not go too quickly with things. Some people REALLY regret their transitions, and you probably do not want that to happen to you. I don't want that to happen to you either. Just be careful. Be safe. Plan ahead. And by planning, I do not mean "get a job, then run away." I mean like for example "by that date, I will have saved this amount of money, and that would require me to work for this more years to reach my goal, which means I'm going to have to move out by that year." Be specific. SAY IT OUT LOUD TO YOURSELF. But if your family insists on being unsupportive, and you're ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THEY WILL COMPLETELY REMAIN IN THAT POSITION, STOP TALKING THEM ABOUT IT. Get as much as you can from them. They have brought you into this world, you are their responsibility. Wishing you the best! ;)
personally I don't like trans or gay ideology but if I happen to be friends or my son or daughter is, I would fully support them because I'm friends with them for a reason... good moral qualities.
My daughter went to prison then right b4 she was released she wrote a letter to my then 11 yr old son telling him about becoming transgender as if it was explaining math, science, or social studies I was appalled so to u and your mother I am glad u had a positive experience but to tell a lil boy who's been bullied and lost his only real brother it was wrong and disgusting to say the lease she handled it wrong
your tattoo makes it look as if your mum has her arm wrapped around your shoulder the whole time lol. cute.
I thought the same thing!
Oh wow yeahXD that's awesome
You have such an awesome mom! I really wish everyone was blessed with your mothers kindness, compassion and understanding. Hugs
i wish that too, debra. thank you so kindly!

You have such a wonderful mother.
Skylar, you are so attractive! I am so happy that you have your family's support because some of us don't and ever will.
Great video! That tattoo on your arm is really effective. I thought your Mom's arm was around you the entire time.
Wow, the love and understanding shown here is heartwarming - from each of you. Congrats on having an awesome mom
You seriously have an amazing mum. She seems pretty cool, and she accepts your transition tonnes.
Love hearing your moms perspective as a fellow parent of a trans kid myself. :)
Wow, you have a great mom! Lucky to have someone so accepting and supportive :)
Sky, you are such an amazing communicator. When you said "if there is any way I can communicate in a way to help you understand," it took me back to the book "Please Understand Me." Thanks for always being awesome and thoughtful :)

Thanks for your video, I'm also a mother to a transgender son who I love dearly. This video really made me feel that everything is going to be ok.
Time to take another crack at talking to my mom about it.
He is very fortunate to have such an understanding parent, I would have reacted the way Beth Stern's mother reacted upon hearing she was marrying Howard. I really wish my family was that understanding and caring... count your blessings x x x best wishes!
Your face when she said she gave birth to you hahaha
:O hahaha
YOU REPLIED
This video made me cry, I wish my mom would be as accepting as your mom. She said that if I do transition then I can't talk to her or my sister and that I'm kicked out of the house. If I even bring it up I get grounded :'(
i really hope she comes around one day to see that you are you
Thanks, Sky:) It really means a lot

oh wow that sucks, i hope either they wake up to themselves or you can be just as happy without them, good luck!
Im so sorry about that. That really sucks. Hugs!
I'm sorry you are having to go throught that. If you ever just need to talk, you can hit me up :)
Well your beautiful self shouldn't have to go through that. I'm glad you separated yourself from that kinda negativity. You are a very pretty lady by the way!
