Hey guys amazing job. Would you use the Concrete Overlay product on a salt pitted concete floor to repair it before either staining or epoxy or use self leveling Concrete?
Hey Mike! We use Increte Vibra stain dye. Our sealers are private labeled for us...but I’ll DM you some info about it on IG. I always enjoy your videos btw. 👍🏻
I am doing my research before we acid stain our concrete floors in our new house. I have a question about the cut lines though. Why don’t you fill them in with anything? Inside residential homes, do you leave the cut lines open for a reason? Your videos are helpful! Thanks in advance for the reply. 😊
Hi Tim, great video, thanks. If you're up for giving some related tips, read on. The main floor of our house is dyed concrete (the whole slab is red all the way down, not just a stain applied to the top). General contractor etched it with with Muriatic acid and sealed it with Clarishield, a water-based sealer. A few years in, the sealer is failing in several spots. Almost completely gone in areas with high foot product. Would you recommend the same process in this video without the concrete overlay and staining? Is there a particular epoxy/urethane product that you'd recommend sealing with? The floor is exposed to lots of sunlight and we're in Northern Vermont, so pretty major temp. swings over the year. Any tips you can offer would be appreciated.
Love your videos!! I watched your countertop video and it's giving me the courage to try it in my kitchen! I have a stained concrete floor in my basement, very similar to the original floor in this video. I'm not sure what type of acid was used, but it was probably done around 2009. I'm wanting a lighter color, so I was thinking of painting. Will I need to grind and overlay? Or should I strip? Etch? Help!
Very nice! I have a stained concrete basement floor that has chipped. I want to repair the chipped portion only. Should I use a thinset mortar? Do I need to use anything before applying the thinset?
I had a bad acid stain job, so I ground the entire outdoor patio. I've heard some people do not recommend acid staining on ground concrete, while others do. What would you do? What are my options. The way I see it is this. 1. Grind off, acid stain, seal 2. Seal the natural concrete 3. Overlay, acid stain, seal 4. Epoxy with heavy flake and Poly Aspartic top coat (Not sure how this would do in a very cold climate in winter and hot/humid in summer)? Thoughts?
I have this exact problem - old red acid stain that has been worn off in high traffics areas. Masking tape has pulled it up as well leaving unsightly strips. I’d love just a natural, flat gray color. Can you just use the primer layer and then seal that to cover the old school acid stain and and achieve a more modern look?
I don't like to grind and do acid as you expose the stones which don't take stain, in Barbados the stone is white limestone so floor looks like confetti when stained
The acid stained floors in a rental property have worn spots near the doors, sink, and refrigerator. Is there a way to repair this without having to do a complete overlay and restain? Also what would I need to do to install tile over the stained concrete?
Thanks for amazing video. I have a question When concreting the floor is done Should the concrete be completely dry? After how many days can I apply acetic acid and a layer of acetic acid?
I have the same style/ color of stained concrete floor in my home but it has a lot of liquid droplet stains all over it from household cleaners i.e pinesol, lysol from cleaning my counter tops and droplets got on the floor and dried and now stained my floor. I didn't really notice them until one morning the sunlight hit it just right and it's hideous. How can I remove them? I've tried scrubbing it with a brush and soap, wont come off. Thanks
I’m not sure. I’ve never seen anything like that before. The repair would depend on the type of sealer on your floor... and it doesn’t sound like it’s the same as what we used. If you email me photos and let me know what materials you used, I might be able to make a suggestion.
@@TimDCVA what product do you use? I’m thinking of going with H&C Infusion and trying for light gray with dark gray marbling/veins. How difficult is this for a DIYer’s first attempt? I just finished grinding my entire garage floor so most of the prep work is out of the way.
i have a question regarding scrubbing a stained concrete floor. after scrubbing my floors with a floor machine and mopping 3 times, some spots have a gray tinted residue. so i scrubbed it again, and again. it won't come off. i don't want to wax over top of it. what do i do to get it off? thanks.
I’ve never heard of that happening before. I’d have to see a photo of it to be able to offer any advice. You can DM me on Instagram if you want to talk about it. @timdcva
one more question. I started to prime my concrete after pressure washing it. once that is done it looks as if I am ready to do the stain followed by a good concrete sealer and that's it? The concrete has never been stained or painted, just power washed twice a year. Do I even need to prime the concrete or just apply the stain and sealer.
help, if i send you a picture, would you give me some advice. Im in S florida. We are on a tight budget and my guy did this and left it. any help appreciated.
Bought a new house with engineered hardwood, want to remove and use the concrete slab. What is the best way to make make the concrete white? Overlay or dye/stain? Thanks.
I have concrete stained floors, we built our house in 2014 and stained our scored concrete they were covered after everything had cured so we could sheet rock as we pulled coverings up and still to this day my stain peels and flakes... why does it peel and flake? I would like to touch it up but don't want to risk it doing this again
It’s hard to say without seeing it. The product they used might be a semi-transparent paint instead of a penetrating concrete stain. The top of the concrete could be weak and the surface could be coming up with the sealer. Either way, if you grind the surface off of the concrete then you shouldn’t have any problems if you do it again.
I pulled up all the carpet in my basement I think whoever painted the basement floor used paint from NASA anyway I got all the paint off that was fun can you recommend a stain for me. I seen a video you put it in a pump sprayer and spray it on it's a large living area and two bedrooms and a hallway. Are the last two steps critical this is not a living area in the basement only for storage.
I love the process, but I feel like it turned out so much prettier.. and there wasn't a good before after comparison at the end. Good job though for not being able to use your normal equipment!! LOVE concrete floors.
Your details are next level , I can't imagine many companies competing with you for the high end market.
Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement.
This all looks just fantastic! Wish you guys were in MD.
Thank you!
Awesome Tim, I'm an installer in the Caribbean as well
Thanks! Where do you live?
@@TimDCVA I'm in Barbados, been doing this stuff 13 years

We use Cement-all from Home Depot for patching stained concrete.

I prefer the look of staining natural concrete.
Hello, I'm going to use Rust-Oleum clear gloss sealer for my concrete acid stained floor. Is it ok to spray it on instead of using a roller? Thankyou

Yes. You could just grind the stain off back to gray concrete… or you could order a gray colored overlay and trowel it on & seal it.

Did you get an answer to this question ??
Thanks for amazing video.
I have a question
When concreting the floor is done
Should the concrete be completely dry?
After how many days can I apply acetic acid and a layer of acetic acid?
Thanks!
Yes it needs to be dry.
I’m not sure how long you need to wait for an acid stain. I prefer to use dye on a job like this.
Thanks for this video, may I ask- where did you find a stain that didn’t require etching? I would like some! Thanks again!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching.
Most manufacturers have water based or acetone based stains. Increte. Westcoat. Ameripolish. Etc.

that is the exact stain color i want to do outside on my concrete patio. what is it?
This is an interior dye. You can’t use it outside.
This is PRO.
Thanks!

Can I make the same steps over a microcement ?!
What is the 3rd component you mixed with epoxy primer??
I believe you can go probably go over micro if it is in good condition.
The epoxy primer only has an A + B. I’m not sure what you are referring to.

That is a different process than anything we do.
I would suggest checking with the manufacturer of whatever you are using.

after waxing and buffing, how long should i wait before i buff again?
We don’t usually buff wax.
After this is done are the cuts in the concrete filled or are they still cuts?
The cuts are visible in the finished floor. You can caulk or grout them... but this customer chose to leave them as is.
Bought a new house with engineered hardwood, want to remove and use the concrete slab. What is the best way to make make the concrete white? Overlay or dye/stain? Thanks.
You would have to do a white overlay or epoxy. Stains usually only darken the concrete.

Hi. I would Like work with you.
What did you use for micro topping
Ardex SD-M.
with this epoxy in the video, what did you mixed with it?
It’s a two part epoxy... so we mixed the epoxy resin (part A) with the epoxy hardener (part B)
if you did not use acid stain, what stain did you use?
We used dye.
What do you use to neutralize the acid stain?
It’s not an acid based product so we don’t need to neutralize it.
Why didn't you neutralize the concrete?
We didn’t use an acid stain.

We always apply sealers to our stain projects… if it’s just for storage you could probably get away with a lesser expensive clear acrylic sealer.
I love the process, but I feel like it turned out so much prettier.. and there wasn't a good before after comparison at the end. Good job though for not being able to use your normal equipment!! LOVE concrete floors.
Thanks!

You guys did a good job. But man this look is so dated now.
Thanks!
U guys never nuetraluzed the floor lol😄😄😄😄😄😄😅😅😅😅😅😅😆😆😆😆😆😜😜😜😜👎
We didn’t acid stain the floor...so there’s nothing to neutralize.
Can't you use a floor leveler?
Yes we could have.
