    Went last year. Go early on as the outer courts all have stars on them, and unlike Wimbledon nothing is full - not hard to get really close to the action. You just need a ground pass - you can get into every court but Arthur Ash with that. Don't get seats on Arthur Ash - it's too big and you'll mostly see Americans. The day/night thing is for seated tickets only - it's not like they can chuck everyone out so you can stay all day. If you do get seats during the day position of the sun is key - make sure they are in the shade. Backpacks are banned, but draw string bags (of exactly the same size!) are fine, go figure. Food is expensive on site but tbh a bigger problem is the cost of food in New York in general - it's stupidly expensive (unless you eat pizza - apparently most of NY's cardboard recycling is used to make pizza boxes!).
    In comparison to Wimbledon, well Wimbledon is so much prettier with the flowers and the grass and the all white but it is also much busier so much harder to see the tennis. In NY the famous stars I saw play (in 1 day) were Swiatek, Raducanu, Evans, Norrie, Rublev, Paire, Brooksby, Bautista‑Agut and a bunch more who they were playing, and even more on the practice courts. This was mostly close up with great seats - when you get to scream at Evo from the front row as he fist pumps in response you really feel like you are part of the action.

    Take the train between Manhattan and NTC. It’s much faster and cheaper. You are allowed to bring sealed water bottles.

      Also in competition, the boom mikes on the court play through the speakers in Ashe, so you can hear the ball being struck.

      The 7 train (subway) is a direct line between Grand Central / Times Square and the tennis center and is a very easy way to get to and from the facility

    good video! I was at the wolf match as well.
    One thing I'll say for Ashe: You can hear the ball during the actual match play. People will chat every now and then but it does get mostly quiet during the points. I was up in the nosebleeds for multiple big matches there and it wasn't an issue

    I haven't been to a slam so I didn't even think about the sound traveling to the upper bowl, definitely good to know. I knew food would be expensive but $27 for spaghetti and $22 for a drink is crazy! Thanks for the vid/insights

    American here. I am now yearning to go to the USO and sip a Honey Deuce on Ashe. My big dream is to attend Roland Garros with my dad.
    I went to my first ATP/WTA tour stop Cincinnati Masters/Open in 2021 with my uncle and aunt. Highly recommend this tournament if anyone wants to see the same grand slam level star power in a more budget friendly atmosphere.
    I think that was the moment that my love of tennis went to the next level.

      Nice idea, I’ll see if I can put something together… the trouble is posting footage of matchplay. There are a lot of rules when it comes to this which is why you only see very short clips in my videos!

    Although they’re both in the USA, the US Open is also a much different vibe compared to Indian Wells. The Open has a New York energy and feels more like going to an American sports game, whereas IW is more chilled and relaxed. Both are great and have their own pros and cons.

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  Год назад +2

    When's the least busiest time to go to the US Open (or any GS, really)? Also, which Masters 1000/GS would you say was the least crowded? I would like to go to a tournament that isn't as 'buzzy' and filled with casual tennis fans; I would like a place that is filled with hardcore tennis fans😀

    Interesting confirmation of what I have seen on TV. Seems like the court side seats are 70% people wanting to be seen. It was so annoying to see a couple people right next to the court talking the whole match. Why bother going? Must be hard on the players.

    Quick correction. You can't bring a camera with a lens with a focal length larger than 300mm, you mentioned no longer than 200mm.

      Thanks, I read that too… however, the guy at security asked if mine was over 200mm for some reason!
