This gives a great perspective at just how incredible professional level tennis players actually are. This guy would probably have to play qualifiers to get into ATP tournaments and yet his serve has so much pace and depth that it's unreturnable for even dedicated recreational players.
Yeah it's nuts. Those serves were completely unreturnable for these level players their only chance is if it's out.
I don't know how the rest of his game is, but those serves in that environment would be incredibly difficult to return for anybody
@@SoloPerICommenti In pro tournaments, serves at around that speed (over 200 kmh) can only be returned with luck, if the opponent is placed correctly, guesses the right trajectory, etc. The human body simply can't respond that quickly, nor move that quickly.

@@Vunderbread look, I was playing at a pretty low level, but my serve was around 175km/h flat even if it was not really accurate (speed measured a few times). But when I was directing it to the right place it was a problem even for players much better than me... just it was not happening very often, lol.
The guy was hitting some bombs that were also very well directed. Not sure if he can do it in a game as well, but many of those were aces even in the ATP circuit
Exactly. I've been top ranked university player and I've been courtside watching the #1 national player. His serves are so big that I would struggle getting any returns. However he played on ATP tour and could barely win any sets.

This is the sort of video that helps you realize that the pros are on just another level entirely. It looks impossible to return Otto's serve, then you see he's (only) ATP rank 340, and you're like, ohhhhhh
A guy who is 340 in the world (even a guy who is semi-pro) can serve just as well as a top 100 player. Just don’t necessarily have the consistency or to back it up on big points
yeah. really gives perspective on the way guys like Agassi and Federer have been able to smack these sorts of serves casually straight back past the server for winners like it was nothing
Look at some of the results players with these rankings are pulling off against top players. I know people say they have slowed down courts since the 90s but players are more athletic and there is more depth. Unless you have a strong tennis federation behind you or some serious money the biggest challenge is qualifying for events that reward ATP points. Skill, talent and athleticism are a start but consider that Nick Kyrgios and Andy Murray both rely on wildcards for most tournaments they enter which just makes it even harder for lower ranked players to qualify for ATP events. Compare tennis players to athletes from team sports and they barely have a chance to compete. Most top soccer clubs have almost as much depth as the entire ATP tour.

@@MrRadiantMan these things are subjective but imo Agassi was way better than Djokovic. Djokovic gets more back, maybe, but the way Agassi would just cream 200+ km/h serves straight back past the server as if it was no big deal ... no-one has done that before or since, imo

So here's a funny bit of perspective. Serena Williams hits her serves at roughly the same speed as Otto. But in a poll of 1700 adults in Great Britain, 12 percent of men and 3% or women thought they could win a point off her. Not return her serve, they thought they could actually win a point.
In a best-out-of-three sets match, you'd have 48 chances to win that point, whereas in the case, you get one shot. To put it in perspective, I think 12% of men and 3% of women here also have a good chance of winning €1000 if they had 48 tries, if you also consider the guy has to serve 48 times without fault :).
What is really funny is that otto is about 176 in the world and even top club players are not likely to win a point. Forget about getting a point off serena we don't have the placement spin or power she could give the doubles lines and no fault serve to an club player and then they may get a point or two but a game not likely

Haven't watched Otto play before. Wow, his serve technique looks super impressive. I see he's only 20. With Emil already making it to the regular tour, hopefully Otto can follow suit. I just found that he's a junior Wimbledon doubles champion as well. So best wishes to him ahead 👍🏽

I got to play against some 200 kph serves as youth player, but all of them on clay courts. The difference on hard must be massive.
I think you would have to be much older than high school to even have the practice necessary to return that serve. At least 25ish with over 10 years professional training, I would assume.
@@DevilWearsAdidas I've been playing since I was 8 and im a serious in high-school the biggest I've returned so far has been 128 so I think I have a 50 50 of getting it.
i honestly was impressed by pongfinity otto serves, he had a 172 km/h serve in, that's not easy at all.
It was faster than many pro female serves
I think I saw 199km/h at some point in the video
If you can perfectly pause and watch frame by frame from 5:06, you will see that it clocks 201 kmph

I grew up playing tennis cause my dad was a teaching pro and his sister was a touring pro in the 1970s. He was 6 ft 6 in and had a huge serve which was al ml post unreturnable when he really cranked it. I always wanted to win a point vs his serve. My dad died in a car accident while sitting at a toll booth on the sunshine skyway bridge in Tampa, Fl. in the 1990s. Rest in peace pops, will see u again one day !
Man.... I'm sorry. RIP to the tall king dishing out the heat. I have a lot of memories with that bridge/area from growing up in the 90s.

The level of skill and athletic ability of professional sportsmen is inconceivable.
Think about it, Otto is 21, he barely even played on the pro circuit, he is ranked like 550 in the world, and nobody could touch him in this video. Not even close. Imagine how crazy good is a top 10 player.
I once talked to a player who was ranked 1000 or so. The main difference between a player who is ranked 1000 or top 100 or top 10 is mostly mental. Skill wise there is little difference. The top 1000 player falters on the big points like 30-40 (double fault, unforced error, etc) and often cant consitently play well in consecutive matches. The top 100 player wont fall apart under pressure and is more consistent but wont make the spectacular play when it really counts.
Anyway the main point is that you cant tell the difference between a top 10 and top 1000 player from a practice session because skill is not the main thing that separates them
@@eddyecho that might be true, but my point is how amazing professional athletes are compared to regular folk. Their skill and physical ability are mind blowing.
It's not just mental. There is a huge difference in skill level between the top 5 and say someone ranked 50th. It's why top players can win matches 6-0 6-0. They are better at serving, returning, general agility, stamina etc etc. It's the same principle that made Usain Bolt unbeatable for years, and why he destroyed the competition. It's not (just) mentality. The top athletes are clearly much better. Due to the way that skill is distributed (a normal distribution on a bell curve) the difference between #1 and #5 (number one is much better) is greater than the difference between #45 and #50 (these guys are closely matched with each other, but much worse than the top guys). If the top 50 were all pretty similar, and their results depended on mentality, you wouldn't have someone staying at #1 in the world all year.

Many of these serves are unreturnable even by pro level players, they are just clean aces with nearly everyone.

This is seriously a very clever collab for a low rank tennis player to do. And it shows some wisdom on behalf of the channel. This tennis player is a world class talent with a very , very , small audience outside of his local supporters.. This channel has achieved outsized levels of audience. I think for this tennis players up and coming career at the near heights of his chosen sport ,,it is only a good thing this channel has afforded him a whole new level of audience awareness... I've just watched him play a few games on very outside courts!!

the pro had a huge advantage because he could serve until it was in, so he was able to aim for the best angles without worry of missing.
Exactly, the top guys in the world fail at returning a good first serve multiple times in every match they play.

it would be considered both rude and cheap to serve on the body of someone who is not accustomed to those speeds.
To be able to receive a big serve you should stand as far back as possible and jump step early to pick a side. Especially since it's a once off serve it's basically a 50/50 prediction but the early step and deep position should give you a good chance

The most interesting part of the video is the showcase of different skill levels. You have a beginner which is very different than an amateur which is miles different than a professional. Very humbling.

the court is not big enough. watch pro matches and see how far back players stand when they return serves of opponents who serve big theyre like 15ft behind the baseline
This was a fun idea, but I wish they brought on more experienced tennis players to give it a go, as opposed to only showing beginners and casual players. Would've been interesting to see some high-level amateurs, such as a competitive high school player or competitive juniors.
And not force them to pass the two amateur serves first. Give them all a shot lol

I saw Andy Murray return Raonic's 235kph serve at wimbledon, it was unreal! I don't know how he did it so consistently but he used to stand closer than other people which makes sense in a way.
Well Murray was the world No1 at one point in time and has won 3 grand slams in his career, so not your average player.
That was a fun video. I was a competitive player once upon a time and got to play against a few guys who later got into the world top 20. The difference between a decent club player and a pro, is like a toddler fighting a bear. Just making contact was a win and getting a few back was like winning the US Open.

It's hard to express just how good the serve is by tennis pros. It's like imagine you play at high school, then college, then country club. Winning all the time too. Then you beat all the other country club players. Then beat all the players that play around the area. Then start to beat all the players around the country. Then can beat all the players most of the time in your country and surrounding countries. Now you are approaching how good an ATP ranked player is.
I think it would’ve been better if you at least told the contestants which side of the service box to expect the final serve. It would’ve been cool to see at least one person win the whole challenge.
Doesn't that kinda defeat the whole purpose? The biggest challenge in facing a good server is trying to read where they go.

@@playagame3107 He's 5.7 feet tall. These serves are quite high and the fact that he is one of the best returners and baseline players , says a lot. Weight and height differences matter a lot in 1 vs 1 sport. He doesnt have a big serve and has limited reach with lesser leverage to work with.
He deserves all respect.
@@studywithkaran8491 He returns pretty far back so I dont think the height of the serves make that much of a difference but yeah true being small is a disadvantage.
Imagine being so good at a sport that it's hard to find anyone to play with.
If Otto missed the serve was it just retaken? If so there would be no consequences to missing his 1st serve, which is unrepresetative of a proper match play serve. There is no way he hit the corners every time as was suggested in this video
Otto's future is very very bright, I watched some matches he is young talented and had some amazing wins against top 150 players, Finland will have another top 100 player very soon.
His problem is just his mentality. I follow his Challenger matches and he's very erratic. A lot of times when he's down a break or losing he just starts tanking and stops playing completely. I remember one match quite recently where he choked break points then got broken the game after in the first set. After that he just stood still in all the remaing return games, doesn't even try to run and get the balls, and he also hit double faults on purpose to end the set quicker.
I'm an avid tennis player and Otto being able to hit it wide in the ad court is impressive
I've always wanted to try that. But wow, that 200kph serve sounded like a gunshot compared to the other ones!
