Played competitive tennis my whole life and played D1 in the US back in HS before going to a college that killed its tennis program my freshman year. I've watched world class coaches give lessons on returns, and I have to say this is by far the best return class I've ever seen. I feel like if I had this resource available to me back in the day, I would have made huge gains on my return game. Great work as always by coach Patrick -- keep it up!

I will let Patrick make the video, but to get you started, make sure you're moving your feet forward and timing that ball off the bounce at around chest to shoulder height. This allows you to level out your swing and flatten the trajectory of the ball because the net will not be in the way when you are contacting the ball well above the net's height.

I am in my 50s now, but still remember a backhand return I hit playing a future Davis Cup player when we were both in our 20s, with him serving at 3:3 in second set tie-break (me having won the first set lol). Serve was down the tee, I stepped in, compact backhand, guided it inside out, hit the sideline. He barely flinched as my return used the power of his serve as best as it could. So proud of it lol. And yes, I did win the tie-break :)

9:29 using the bodyweight forward to control the return is so important Patrick. I was having trouble my last match, left hand guy with strong slice. I was having some success using my bodyweight to remove the "heaviness" from his serve. If I did not use my bodyweight forward the return was a mess. Bravo for this content.

J.K. As a 5'8 guy with a horrible ball toss I've always won games based on my return game and this video is bang on buck. To be a good returner you have to put your ego aside and appreciate the other guy's speed and power, and use that to a good measure against him. Try to take the serve as early as possible, show the other guy you're not scared of taking his serve head-on inside the baseline.
