As a coach who has worked 20 years on the WTA and ITF tour. This is the best example of simplifying things that are so difficult. For every sentence he says, he is condensing hours of research and analysis, meanwhile making it look easy. Awesome presentation, Patrick 👏
I pay around R$100.00 for a class to have this type of information that was passed on here. My teacher is a great idol to me for his dedication to tennis, but Maratoglou surpassed all barriers of excellence with this video and FOR FREE!! Congrats!! 👏👏
Played competitive tennis my whole life and played D1 in the US back in HS before going to a college that killed its tennis program my freshman year. I've watched world class coaches give lessons on returns, and I have to say this is by far the best return class I've ever seen. I feel like if I had this resource available to me back in the day, I would have made huge gains on my return game. Great work as always by coach Patrick -- keep it up!
This is by far one of the best tutorial on return of serves delivered in such concise, succinct fashion! Straight to the point and easy to understand even for early learners of the game - no wonder folks like Rune and Gauff are improving so drastically! Ps: next up, please could we have a tutorial on defending / attacking high balls. Merci beaucoup!
I will let Patrick make the video, but to get you started, make sure you're moving your feet forward and timing that ball off the bounce at around chest to shoulder height. This allows you to level out your swing and flatten the trajectory of the ball because the net will not be in the way when you are contacting the ball well above the net's height.
Patrick’s ability to translate the dynamics of everything in tennis is second to none. I am a beginner and I learn so much from start to end of every video. And, he delivers advice so well that I am able to apply it right on my next practice. He literally imprints the lesson in my mind. Merci beaucoup!🥰
Very humbled by your passion to teach tennis in such detail.... everyone around the world who gets to learn from your videos are indebted to you...thank you
Best lessons (freely), best-edited video structure with chapters, easiest understandable English explanation from a world-class coach. What more to expect!
I started tennis when I was 7 but then stopped at 15. Recently I returned, to be able to exercise, but also to play good tennis and enjoy it as I should have in the first place. Every single one of your videos has helped me towards feeling more confident in each practice. Thank you so much for your work, your channel is fantastic!
A beautiful and insightful lesson. I am in my 50s now, but still remember a backhand return I hit playing a future Davis Cup player when we were both in our 20s, with him serving at 3:3 in second set tie-break (me having won the first set lol). Serve was down the tee, I stepped in, compact backhand, guided it inside out, hit the sideline. He barely flinched as my return used the power of his serve as best as it could. So proud of it lol. And yes, I did win the tie-break :)
Thanks coach Morataglou- last week I played a doubles match and a lefty with a good kick serve was sending me way off the court on my weaker side. I could feel the anxiety growing every time it was his turn to serve. your return of serve lesson has already made me relax .Best regards, Steve.
Thank you Patrick. That was the best lesson in return I have ever had in my life. I learned so much from you in this brief session. I can’t thank you enough.

Je rêve d'aller faire un stage tennis chez vous ... histoire de repasser 30 🤣. Sur bien des plans vous faites du bien à plein de followers. Encore merci.
9:29 using the bodyweight forward to control the return is so important Patrick. I was having trouble my last match, left hand guy with strong slice. I was having some success using my bodyweight to remove the "heaviness" from his serve. If I did not use my bodyweight forward the return was a mess. Bravo for this content.
Now watching this video, I have understood everything!! Tomorrow I sign up for the ATP. I'm looking forward to the Big Tournaments despite my 43 years.
This split step is exactly the same as a prep step infielders use in baseball. Go to a MLB game and you'll see all the infielders hop like that just as the pitcher delivers so they can react either side.
Thanks Patrick Moratoglou for a great lesson and for giving us insight to all your knowledge. Would love to see a video of you talking about the best serve + 1 combinations. Greetings from the caribbean island of Puerto Rico.
I have started playing tennis just a year ago but I quickly learned and applied a lot of tips with the help of the legendary Patrick Mouratoglou’s channel. Thank you for inspiring everyone, Patrick! ❤

Tried this, and lost 6-0; I want a refund. J.K. As a 5'8 guy with a horrible ball toss I've always won games based on my return game and this video is bang on buck. To be a good returner you have to put your ego aside and appreciate the other guy's speed and power, and use that to a good measure against him. Try to take the serve as early as possible, show the other guy you're not scared of taking his serve head-on inside the baseline.
It’s precisely the lesson I was waiting for, we are lucky to get such high quality content from a world class coach on RUclips Please single handed backhand video Single handed backhand video Also a detailed video on kick and slice serve

I've taken group tennis lessons by various coaches from various organizations for over 15 years, and this was the first time things finally made sense to me. Coaches in the past told me I was swinging too much or taking my arm back too far on returns, but never really explained why that was bad or how I should be really modifying my swing on return. Thank you Patrick...I get it now!
Absolutely amazing. Great lesson, great breakdown of the return of serve. Now it is a matter of execution, training and a lot of hard work. Thank you Patrick.
Hey Patrick, thx for the exceptional content. I mean , this kinda lesson is often chargeable online. You are quite famous in her generation, and you are keeping the pace to be THE most famous and inspiring coach. Yasas !
Your instruction is, as always, impeccable! I am older and new to tennis (about 18 months now) and the two things I am having a time with is top spin and keeping the two handed back hand in the court of play and not sending it to the fence!!
