It is a strange question to rate the “weight” of this unit because it is basically a giant torque electric motor on the end of a handle- so yes, it is top heavy. Very happy with it, especially with the price of buying it as a bare tool.

I used Milwaukee impact drivers and drills for plumbing build-outs, they're beasts. We ran hole saws with them. If you snagged a nail it would either take your arm to a place it didn't wanna go, almost dislocate your wrist or go flying out of your hand.
Nice, this would be a great one to keep on the van for emergencies. I got the big ass M18 1/2" impact myself for the big jobs but I bet this would cover 99% of what I'd run in to out and about. Cheers!
That axle nut was impressive for a 1/2" Stubby. I was unable to break one loose using the Milwaukee Mid-Torque. It was on a Gen 3 Honda Odyssey likely over-torqued and I live in the Northeast U.S. where corrosion is an issue. I had to use my old Japan made Craftsman 1/2" pneumatic to break the axle nut loose.
I'ma get it in the 3/8" in the next two or three months for work under the hood, brakes, etc. I'ma get the 1/2" mid torque for luf nuts and heavier things. As for axle nuts I'ma have to use a 3/4" breaker bar and cheater pipe til I get enough money for a 3/4" impact
kingkong8974 if you watch some mid torque videos (2861) there’s a guy who removes every fastener except one Honda crank bolt. I think the mid torque will be able to do everything you want it to unless you work on heavy machinery.

I’ve been running one for almost two years now doing steam service on PRV’s , steam traps, strainers and valve rebuilds, it’s my go to impact, 4.0 batteries are awesome too
I needed this comment. I myself work on the same components in Sterilizer/Autoclaves and bulk washers. Needed a tight space tool that a pipe wrench can’t get to, or simply getting off the top of a steam trap as mentioned. At the universities I service, some traps haven’t been taken apart in DECADES.
@@AbsolutelyCursed I still have the same impact, the 4.0 batteries are still running. I’ve had some issues with a pair of 6.0 batteries, I don’t currently recommend that battery. I still enjoy going through the big F&T traps that were on tube heat exchangers, I would blast and paint the covers different colors and the year would correspond to a year. But blasting and rebuilding stuff and returning old iron to service was the best.

Definitely want this for my next M12 tool! Recently got the Fuel drill/driver kit that comes with a 2.0 ah battery and a 4.0 ah pack and I love it. So much more power than you'd expect from 12 volts! I narrowly picked it over Makita's 18v Subcompact model. I'm glad I did, the M12 system has all kinds of handy tools from these torque-y impact wrenches, to a Dremel-style rotary tool (that accepts Dremel accessories) to oscillating multitools, to all kinds of lights. Living in the Northeast and working outside quite a bit, I might consider investing in a heated jacket too. My bank account wouldn't be too happy with me though lol
I REALLY wanna see videos of mechanics using these tools to remove the front end suspension parts off a 2007-2016 Ford expedition el. The lower bolt on the front shocks are torqued at 400 ft-lbs.
There isnt any play or losseness where the socket goes on. That is great. I have an impact wrench that rattles too much when taking off wheel lug nuts because my tools has too much play in it.

I have the 3/8 impact. I like it makes working on the job faster for real easy to get to nuts and bolts. Those 4.0 batteries last pretty long if you're torquing alot or breaking but in the end nothing beats pneumatic, just sucks you have to have the hose follow you every where.
I hope this thing is better than the M18 fuel 3/8. I have had two of those pos and it struggles like hell breaking a lug nut loose that was torqued to 90-100ft lb. Worst waste of money I've ever spent on cordless tools.
pulled a ford triton v10 with it, did a complete clutch removal on a celica gts, and a few brake jobs so far, just to see how well it would do, i dont plan on using it like that for long since its not what i bought it for, i have my 1/2 high torque m18 fuel impact for the big stuff
Was looking for the M18 but was shown this M12 at a shop I went to.Was skeptical how useful it might be until I saw this.Now seriously considering this instead of the M18 cause the M12 sure felt light when I held it in the shop&felt like it would be a lot easier to work in cramped spaces...:-)

Not sure what the advantage of the stubby is, if you've already got a regular impact wrench. I'd go for the linear style (how to describe) if I wanted to fit into places a ratchet would normally fit. Never had one of THOSE, but all the guys at the Ford shop had one, back in the '80s. I don't do the battery tools, although they'd be a convenience on the road. I just use compressed-air tools.

Whats the difference between the milwaukee fuel line and the non fuel? I have a 1/2 impact wrench by milwaukee but it isnt a fuel and its always done me fine.
I was always taught at my auto mechanic school that it is bad to remove an axle nut with an impact wrench unless you are planning on replacing it and the CV axle. My instructor didn't say why it is bad, but just wanted to give you a heads up. Love that impact though, I plan on getting one for work after I finish school.
Doing tire work professionally, i found the 1/2" stubby to be unreliable taking lug nuts off. More often I find myself reaching for the bigger impact tool when this fails. Unless the bolts are rust free and torqed to spec, its not gonna take it out.
crazy wheel that gun won’t put out more than that, that’s for sure. If it says 250 ft lb max torque, thats at the peak of the impact cycle. It would take him 20 min to get the lug nut up to that torque

Im a big Milwaukee fan my self all my tool are milwaukee for just the speed and ease but i still hope Milwaukee comes out with even more powerful 3/4 and 1" guns then they have now....... im a heavy equipment mechanic for construction equipment. Believe it or not the box mine came in looks WAY worse than that. I was so disappointed when I got it in the mail but the tool works great and didn't have any signs of use
vcsoccer88 It does matter. since I do more suspension work, the socket sizes I use mostly are 19mm and up... If I were to buy the 3/8 version then I would have to use a 1/2 adapter to fit my most commonly used sockets, wich would result in torque loss meaning a less powerful impact... with the 1/2 version you dont need to use an adapter for those bigger sizes and in the cases you need to adapt down to say a 3/8 inch, then torque loss is not a big issue when dealing with smaller size fastners... and thats why I feel the 3/8 is pointless, but different strokes for different folks
1/2” drives usually have better torque transfer to the nut because the impact piece is typically thicker and more rigid. Not always but typically. It more has to do with the manufacturer of the impact socket.
OldsVistaCruiser thats the real test. this tool is extremely light and almost toylike so i doubt it but I will say im impressed with the battery life of this thing.

I love them stubbys, and the mil 12v drill and impact are great little rigs that are small enough to fit and they're light and ez to run around with.

Sockets make a big difference also. If you have a quality set of impact sockets the gun can do its job even better.

Enough to take bolts out but I wouldn't tighten it back on. Probably add another 50ft/pds to your lug nut torque..

1/2” drives usually have better torque transfer to the nut because the impact piece is typically thicker and more rigid. Not always but typically. It more has to do with the manufacturer of the impact socket.

OldsVistaCruiser thats the real test. this tool is extremely light and almost toylike so i doubt it but I will say im impressed with the battery life of this thing.

@@barricadegarage5361 - Probably was never wheeled before I got it. I just remembered that it has been apart. I had to replace the front axle U-joints (it's a 4.0) to pass PA inspection.
Answer: no. Milwaukee has other tools made for that type of job.
Its a 12 v impact wrench not an 18 v lol
Does the 3/4 inch stuby have more footpounds of torque ?
Wolverine Chamberlin as far as I know theres only a 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 electric stubby impact made by milwaukee. they have pneumatic/air powered stubby impact wrenches that are more powerful
