    I'm surprised to see all these new comments popping up, given I posted this two years ago! Here's some info for those who seem confused...
    - Yes, this happened purely out of luck. I was recording an ultrawide video since I had not done it before and wanted to get some audio recordings.
    - Driver was drunk and speeding, police found empty beer bottles in the driver's front seat. He was injured but nothing major per law enforcement onboard.
    - Took roughly 2 hours to get back on the move, and it had not been long before the bombardier was buffed out and given fresh paint.
    Hope this clears things up!

    Trains are small and easy to miss. So I can understand him not spotting the train until it was too late. They should put some sort of sound device on trains so they could make some sort of loud noise as they're arriving. Also, they should put up some sort of signal by the rail crossing, so people would know that a train is coming.

      Derail that train? There is 100% no way that the SUV would derail that train

    • @williamevans461
      @williamevans461 Год назад +1

      @@ianmcginnis5734 Yes, there absolutely is… if a full-sized SUV (low speed 6,000Ib missile) hits an object at full speed that only has footing on two RAILS that is connected to several other objects that only have footing on two rails, there’s a 110% chance that it could derail it.
      I’m not talking about a catastrophic accident that knocks the train off the rails entirely, several people die & there’s flames everywhere like a Michael Bay movie … I’m more talking about something like a wheel hopping off the track, maybe one end of the car gets knocked off, or considerable damage to the car where someone’s sitting.
      Is there an undeniable, fool-proof chance that it WOULD happen? Meh… there’s a lot of forward momentum on a super heavy string of objects at high speeds. But, there’s plenty of ways that it COULD happen (we don’t know if theres a piece of debris large enough to lodge itself under the wheel of the car(s), hit it right at the trucks, gradients/curvature, track quality, etc.).
      Many factors go into derailments, serious or not, and a side-on collision from an SUV is kindaaaa sketchy…

    Great video. People need to be smart at railroad crossings! And not driving drunk is a big part of staying safe and, most importantly, keeping others safe!

    I'm just seeing this as well on 11/26/23. I noticed the vehicle surge 3 times beginning as he passed the driveway. I'm guessing ABS was kicking in as he slammed the brake pedal.

    Considering how the USA has among the biggest, loudest and slowest trains in the world it's frankly a miracle they ever get hit and yet it happens all the time...

    I used to work for a state DOT and had access to the state's crash database. A surprising amount of vehicle-train crashes I saw (I think close to half) were actually of the vehicle hitting the train (on the side like this), rather than the train hitting a vehicle in front of it (stalled or trying to beat the train).

      Yes, I can imagine a car hitting a train inside the train, but it would take Christopher Nolan to make a movie scene of that idea. At least unless the train inside the train that I'm supposed to imagine is an HO scale model or something.

    Our old neighborhood has tracks across the entrance. A KCS freight was coming fast, on the horn when a drunk driver ran into the train. But, he didn't bounce off. He got snagged. The signals at the crossing sit on high concrete stands. The train dragged his vehicle along and between the train and the concrete stands. It pulled him through crushing the vehicle and then spit the vehicle and him out in the drainage ditch along the tracks. His car was so crushed that they had to cut him out. The drunk driver passed away at the hospital.
