"Let's see where this fun project leads me" - This is exactly my way at the moment and my "last" drink was on 5th October 2023. Since then, not a single drop of alcohol or any other drug which has never been a topic in the first place. Just having the power over my stupid old brain gives me so much pleasure in the "discomfort" of having this comfort. The journey continues! (Grave - Undergrounded)

It’s refreshing to see others in the scene that are alcohol and drug free. I don’t need to be plastered to enjoy music. METAL gets me high. At my healthiest and happiest, my routine consists of exercise, being outdoors, eating real good, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and listening to the best Metal I can find.

Only recently found your podcast and enjoying them. Being sober for over two years, I got a lot from this episode.
Thanks for reminding me why I no longer drink alcohol!

Everybody knows, that alcohol is bad for your body and your psyche, but its detrimental effect on one's spiritual prowess is hardly ever mentioned. Thank you for speaking out on that, very much appreciated!

Loved this. I've seriously turned my relationship around with alcohol this year. Spent far too many weekends hungover and miserable over the years. I've stopped drinking at home and can enjoy maybe 1 or 2 pints on a weekend now and say no more. I've also vowed to never be hungover again.

      Excellent, power to you!
Our time is too precious to spend it detached from our existence, out of control and unable to remember.

Another good episode. Seems we follow similar paths. Sports, cold explosure and sobriety result so powerful effects on many levels. Good to hear that alcohol and drugs are not mandatory in metal community anymore.

Im glad i've never had this "black or white", "good or bad" way of taking stimulants. There is a really pleasant way of enjoying them in a "responsible" way, specially with alcohol. It has been with humanity since the beginning and it will be with us 'till the end. Still, I do absolutely respect people who doesn't participate in it.

The people who can have just one drink or can use drugs just on the weekend are really lucky to have been born with genetics that allow them to put on the brakes. Some of us simply CAN’T stop whatever is our drug of choice. And this of course extends to anything that can give us that dopamine hit and if it’s something that can cause harm or requires progressively larger amounts to get that hit and then results in some kind of major problem - then you’re in big trouble. For me it’s sugar. I can’t have just one or just a little bit because it sends me into a full on spiral of eating disorder madness. Fun fact - the suicide rate for people with EDs is one of the highest for all psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. Lucky me.

Great episode and thanks for sharing your experience in a candid and respectful manner - alot of thought provoking ideas here that i've spent some time reflecting on. I certainly agree that society as a whole largely has an unconscious unhealthy dependence on alcohol. We have a very strong drinking culture here in Australia, where, as you stated, if you don't drink you are looked at like some sort of alien.
Perhaps i'm not the target audience for this piece, as i've thankfully never had a dependence on, or abuse issues with, substances but I don't agree with your black and white assessment on alcohol. I think it would have been more accurate to caveat the physiological impacts of alcohol you described with the prefix of 'heavy' / long-term / abuse (definitions of which vary depending on which health organisation you want to quote), in that alot of the impacts you have described, both physically and mentally, will not have the stated effect on those enjoying a beer on a Friday afternoon, or pairing a steak with a glass of red wine. Both of which aren't going to destroy your testosterone count etc.
For the vast majority of people, there is a material and significant delta between heavy and continuous alcohol consumption/dependence and enjoying an occasional drink. However, I do understand that for those with addictive personalities, mental health issues, or struggles with chemical dependence, the battle truly is as black and white as what you describe. I think it's reductionist to think that society is going to shit because people have a few drinks on the weekend, there's far more at play in the media, society and culture in general that is having a proportionally larger impact on our cultural erosion (most of which you've already perfectly summed up in previous episodes of the podcast).
Just my thoughts on the matter. Like a vast majority of things in life, I don't think it's ever as simple as the X = bad, Y = good approach you've described. As you state at the end, you don't want your mind to be rusty - I don't believe the measured and occasional consumption of alcohol is as corrosive as you describe (to keep the analogy going). There are far more caustic things we encounter in our day to day.
    Once again, fantastic episode!

      Hey there,
I appreciate the feedback and your tuning in!
I'm sure that there are plenty of examples of people who only have a few drinks on the weekend with family, or the occasional glass of wine with a meal-I'd like to think that I have a pretty good understanding of that dynamic as well.
The point I'm making is that "excessive" consumption of alcohol simply entails a higher volume of something that inherently isn't good for our body and mind to begin with.
The fact of the matter is that this is what the science shows-the effects of alcohol on the human body and brain are negative, even if consumed in moderation. Hence why I referenced the Huberman Lab episode here; you can find the link in the description if you would like to hear more about that.
In life, we all get to choose our poisons, and that is every person's prerogative. What I'm a strong proponent of, and what drives me to make an episode like this, is to ensure that people are more informed about those choices.
Thank you again for tuning in!

    wow, phenomenally breathtaking
    👍
It's a few years I've got that there are all healing for body, inside us, like a released animal in nature, while people are searching for healing outside of them,
in another one, in a drug, in another situation....
    Why we need some medicine?
cause there are some junk and non organic food we are having, the environment is not that healthy one it was supposed to...
people didn't know what fast food is but Investors convinced us we need it.
people didn't know what alcoholic drinks are but Investors convinced us we need to drink it.
Why human brain's ability is not grown up as it should and as it was supposed? Because of religions had tried to limit it.
Human is trying to develop AI with no limitation.
despite of all limition. It's dangerous cause religions, the only reason of human's unethical and bad behavior have caused AI seems dangerous and act dangerously.
Thanks for your wonderful vibes ❤

I think the biggest problem for me with stop drinking is that I love to see bands live, but don`t really like when it is a lot of people around me. Beer make it easier. But stronger alcohol I try to be careful with.

Hmmmm… I agree with what you said, I personally don’t drink and have actually never taken drugs, besides anesthesia and sugar🍭🍩🍬🍫 and it doesn’t make me proud. I don’t smoke neither. It is a hard life for a sober no smoker metal head, somehow. But, why are you always apologizing for making judgments of people? You are judging them and that’s ok. The fact that you are not telling them what to do doesn’t mean that you’re not judging the heck out of them. Metalheads are one of the most judgmental music communities and we have to come out of the closet and accept it. I reather identify myself as a tolerant person, because for me it doesn’t mean that I have to accept and play along with others (or my own)stupid behavior, for me it means learning to live with the fact that they have the right to do as they will and I can do the same, and just go on with my life.
I also believe that your cultural upbringing helps with your sobriety, even if it did the opposite when you were a teenager or “younger” or if you don’t agree with the ideology behind it. My opinion only.

I appreciate your feedback! I'm not apologising as such, as I don't have anything to apologise for - It's more so a matter of clarifying that I'm not here to tell people what to do or how to live their lives, but rather introduce them to a perspective which they could benefit from, and also don't hear very often.
