They all have their own field of expertise and waya of asking questions - not all of em always fall as categorized or systematic patterns of topics, nor it should... and that's the beauty of interviews. One of the most memorable things I've ever gotten out of you.
@@dudewholikesfood6769 look into the book of Dao. Also called the Dao De Jing or Tao Te Ching depending on how you transliterate the original Chinese name
Thing is, you find this idea everywhere. You find it (at least) in Buddhism, Daoism, Christianity and Hinduism. Since these developed more or less independently, you've got yourself a concept that everyone has agreed on without knowing each other. It's almost proof of its existence and significance.
RDJ has had one hell of a journey man. I've been a fan of his since watching Weird Science and Less Than Zero as a teen back in the 80's. Watching him rebuild and reinvent himself over the decades has always been inspiring for me and that's completely aside from enjoying his works. I even spent a few years practicing Wing Chun, like RDJ, as a way to help heal myself of depression and anxiety. I'm not really a "fan" of many people, but he's firmly on the very short list.
@Schweddy Ballz I am somehow inclined to agree with both of you. What Michael is saying is how the world is and most people will immediately get what he means and that it is true. Yet what you say I also agree with, as that's how the world should be. That it shouldn't matter who you are and how much you have accomplished, when two are having a conversation.
No. Eddie Hall is a human and I am amazed by him. Some people see that with RDJ. People all over the world are aware of his existence. And decades from now will still know who he was. It's not his species you should consider but his experience knowledge and achievements. Learning from others is human, so is conversing, and holding people who have done more in higher regard, or elders. These are human traits. Being human is being in awe, motivated and inspired by the progress of other humans, especially if they've done more than you.
@@ShashankSawantPhD I partly agree but partly disagree because it's a difference saying "I feel unreal and accomplished because this big famous person said this." to "this human who has inspired me a lot in my life, who's work I admire and love has said this, so i feel very happy and accomplished." i think there is a great difference in the two and I would say it is perfectly fine to feel the way of the second sentence, because it is good to look up to people and appreciate them for what they have to say and what work they put out into the world, and it doesn't have to mean the other person is worth less, or more.
Because he's changed from his past he's sober now very involved with his family and helps addicts to this very day also has quite a few charities. What do you have to back up your claim besides his past which is just that in the past.

I needed this video 2 weeks ago. I'm a full time artist and I not only got in my own way but began hating myself for it thus halting creating anything. Luckily the tides changed and I feel like I'm on to a new chapter in life. But thanks for this Joe and RDJ
Such a cool guy. You can tell he's been through it and came out with his priorities straight. So happy he did, would have been a waste of a true talent.
Joe explained exactly what I’ve been experiencing for so long with my art work. I enter a state of flow when I create, I don’t know where my mind goes or who’s putting the shapes and lines down. But that doesn’t always happen and I lose that feeling.
It's a ryhthmn .. like a sine wave. It helps to know when the sine wave is above the line, when you're above it, and when you drop below it. Always catch it on the up swing, and take a soft landing when coming out and drop below the line, preparing to be ready and to hit your stride again when you rise above it again. Maybe it's a daily ebb and flow, or every three days, or every 8th day. Take notes and over time you will detect a pattern. Good luck
Isn't it a beautiful thing that we can see our favorite celebrities have long, candid conversations and see how it plays out. This is why television is failing. We don't want an interview cut down to ten minutes or two minutes like it is on tv. We want more. And that's why shows like this are only gonna keep getting more successful. I'm so thankful for podcasts in general. I've honestly gained more from them than I ever did in the first 20 something years of my life where I watched only tv and film
It’s all relative. Compared to TVs and bad film podcasts are more genuine and serious. But caring about what celebrities say, come on man on average these are the least educated people in society. Many actors and comedians never even went to college.
@@tylurmackinnon6217 A lack of your so called education saw at least particular actors ascend far beyond what most achieve. I would definitely consider that people like rdj have that something about them that naturally draws people in, this man in particular has an arc that is inspiring to most people and its nice to see the true words and thoughts of those who have stood out in a particular way. 'Efurther
Tv is impossible to watch for me because I get bored of sound bites and 20 minute segments with a catch up after the 10 minute long adverts for things I never want to buy. I can focus on something for longer than 20 mins so tv frustrates the hell out of me. Podcasts are the truth. Keep smashing it Joe please don't ever stop doing the JRE it's a lifeline
As someone who can draw, I can honestly relate about not being all there when performing the craft. Let me tell you. It is one of the best feelings you can ever have after the fact.
Idk, sometimes when I draw like that I feel like I casted a part of me into the world and it leaves me feeling a bit scattered and drained, perhaps when that happens you can see in front of you the piece that was casted.
I have had this happen to me while performing as a Dj/producer. And also a few times on the basketball court. I was on a high school team that made a playoff run to district gold and some of those games were like that. And we talked about it as a team and all felt it.
@agustinxramirez ya hell yeah.if not familiar with Mr.Wes Watson?u should check out his channel.alot of absolutely universal intelligence that he spreads to mankind, anyways hes always relating that term "FLOW STATE" wen everythings comming together for yur purposes & intentions & payoff thru yur efforts,& just perfectly,............FLOW STATE
I know exactly what he means when he talks about getting an inspired take recorded as a musician. I’ll listen to the same thing 20 times in a row and think, “wow, I know this is me, but I feel euphoric listening to this because it’s so surreal when all the variables come together.” When your voice is perfectly warmed up, but not too crackly, when your instrument is perfectly in tune, when you nail the instrument part and singing at the same time. It’s like you can feel the energy of whatever force in the universe puts the magic of creation into the physical world through inspiration. The same feeling a fighter feels when in a flow state, expressing themselves through movement, hitting and not getting hit with ease, is not dissimilar to how a guitarist feels shredding into a solo, in absolute flow state. Very interesting
Rizz Fitness I loved it when he talked about his time on SNL. I give him credit for being honest about his experience being a cast member. He said that he learned more about what he wasn’t than what he was. At least he accepted his limitations, and figured out what it is that he excels at. It takes a certain amount of humility to know that they’ve tried, it didn’t work, and they wouldn’t do it again, because it’s something they know they wouldn’t succeed in.
Slowsti05 He’s right tho, its quite rare in general to see Robert Downey and not Tony Stark in an interview. When he finally puts down the facade, he is completely different from the made up character and instead feels like a real person
It's good to see Robert as an actual person! For the longest time, only seeing him in movies? Kinda gave me a weird disconnect from him, hard to imagine him as a person without seeing that personal light show some.

This interview makes me smile for a reason I can't fully express...maybe it's the fact that I legit like these two guys a lot...two dudes who have been responsible for entertaining the shit put of me for 15-20 years...i appreciate Joe and RDJ...
I needed this video 2 weeks ago. I'm a full time artist and I not only got in my own way but began hating myself for it thus halting creating anything. Luckily the tides changed and I feel like I'm on to a new chapter in life. But thanks for this Joe and RDJ
Added to the playlist of videos to get me out of my depression cycle✔
Such a cool guy. You can tell he's been through it and came out with his priorities straight. So happy he did, would have been a waste of a true talent.
This is probably one of the most inspiring things I've heard in a while.
@@hejsan5839290485 your mother
You obviously haven't heard too much lately. Robert Downey jr. Is a horrible human being
@@matthewmiller2219 I heard Mathew Miller is a horrible human being
@@yehimbool9114 hahahahhahahahahaa I heard that too😂
Joe explained exactly what I’ve been experiencing for so long with my art work.
Good luck
This talk is such a gem...that flow state is real...
I think it’s god working through us
@@samortega3707 Try good old fashioned raw talent. Nothing but me to develop my own skills.
@agustinxramirez ya hell yeah.if not familiar with Mr.Wes Watson?u should check out his channel.alot of absolutely universal intelligence that he spreads to mankind, anyways hes always relating that term "FLOW STATE" wen everythings comming together for yur purposes & intentions & payoff thru yur efforts,& just perfectly,............FLOW STATE
This guy, so many great entertaining films, and such a good guy. Love ya, RDJ!
He seems so calm good to hear Robert speak
Rizz Fitness I loved it when he talked about his time on SNL. I give him credit for being honest about his experience being a cast member. He said that he learned more about what he wasn’t than what he was. At least he accepted his limitations, and figured out what it is that he excels at. It takes a certain amount of humility to know that they’ve tried, it didn’t work, and they wouldn’t do it again, because it’s something they know they wouldn’t succeed in.
Two of my hero’s having a conversation...Legends of both worlds RUclips and Hollywood
I love RDJ. He's such a down-to-earth and honest guy
Who would've ever thought that the dude from Weekend at Bernies and Less Than Zero would still be knocking out hits all these years later.
My life is also a dream except my invisible string has pulled me into minimum wage employment at mcdonalds. So amazing.
That's ok. The world is your oyster.
At least you have a job
Cut that string and follow another one.
Sounds like your little string is pulling you into comedy writing 😉
DANTRON it’s never too late
I feel like I'm listening to a Tony Stark interview
@Derck Layja so you're THAT guy at the party
@Derck Layja I don't go to very many mainly because I don't like dealing with idiots
Slowsti05 He’s right tho, its quite rare in general to see Robert Downey and not Tony Stark in an interview. When he finally puts down the facade, he is completely different from the made up character and instead feels like a real person
@@slowsti0535 no... I AM! yes me i am that guy at the party i like to say ''well youre not''
Derck Layja It’s just the voice mostly. Don’t worry m8 I can separate reality and fiction
It's good to see Robert as an actual person! For the longest time, only seeing him in movies? Kinda gave me a weird disconnect from him, hard to imagine him as a person without seeing that personal light show some.
sometimes i come across life advice that i want to remind myself of almost daily this is one of those advices. " don't get in the way of yourself." TY TY
he still has the iron man chest piece on when he even does podcasts
What, the neckless? Haaha - i was wondering what that was - makes sense!
- Actually it does look a lot like jade, or what in Aotearoa New Zealaand is called greenstone, or "pounamu," although that's not a *traditional* Maori design. It is interesting though, huh?
i thought i was a roller blade wheel
Hockey puck?
He actually used those type of necklaces before being iron man!
It's his sobriety arc reactor.
11:18 As Bruce Lee said, "when there is an opening, I don't hit (holds up fist), it hits all by itself."
Man, that bit about the music is SPOT ON! You write something nice and play it on loop and think "did I really right this? I can't believe I wrote this." Such an amazing feeling
Huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. This interview just solidified my felling on him as a man. Great interview!
👏👏👏😎👍
What he said about falling into self seeking, depression as a default that really resonated with me and made me take a look at myself... I need to wake up.
You got this!!
We all do brother. So many of us fall into that place so easily. And to see superstars admit that makes me realize that we're all just people going through the same shit. A great topic with two awesome humans.
Man, such a great vibe from Robert Downey Jr.
Ikr!
This maybe the best video I've watched. Some of the things they talked about really resonated with me big time. A cleverly placed topic.
It's so nice to see a podcast host who lets everyone complete full sentences including pauses.
“A smile on the inside”, now I know what I’m aiming for.
"you would write something and you just listen to it on the loop, cuz you go wow.....that's not, I know that I was here and I did that, but it feels kind of inspired..." facts, jewels.
Great conversation as well as some very important reminders myself needed to hear, again!!
the underlying message behind this is amazing, im not sure how many people are actually appreciate the secrets they are sharing, but thank you JR and RDJ
Thanks for sharing. I loved this interview series. I have always admired your growth in your field and Mr. Downey's growth and change.
Awesome interview for Today❤
I would bet that this will remain one of the top podcasts of all time for years upon years. Big fan of the show. Amazing job rogan
I have so.much in common with y'all it's crazy. Looking forward to the interview one day 🧡 so we can help eachother and help those choosen few . I love you guys so much!!!! Thank you for being an inspiration for me and my family. Keep it up Joe and Rob. Y'all know what it is. I feel your pain. it's great 2020 we can do this!! So awesome.
Never been a huge fan, but RDJ comes off really well here.
Wow, Joe has RDJ on the podcast?! That's insane, something that was seen as impossible over 6 years ago.
So refreshing to hear a step worker preach the program without violating our traditions. Thank you RDJR. #ODAT
This conversation is answering questions I had floating around in my mind like pieces of a puzzle I've been trying to put together.
Nice one Joe...
Next, Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle, Joaquin Phoenix...
Alex Agaba Joaquin would be an interesting interview though. It could rival the interview he did with Letterman.
@@cityhawk the Letterman joint was a whole different animal..
Gotta love Robert, Such a wholesome fella.
Gangsta! These two guys are legends! It's sooo cool to hear them riff back and forth.
Your podcast are the best joe loved the robert downey interview...very heartfelt. I love the fact that you guys talked about the flow state of creativity..
What a great actor RDJ is, here it's like you see who he is, realizing that everything I've seen so far has been carefully tended to characters.
This entire conersation is a perfect breakdown on trying to control, or at least rope in, ones own self image and standards, lol (introspectively)
You even offer something akin to an outline for organizing (or balancing perhaps??) the extremes of what is and isn't, what should and shouldn't, from conception to implementation.
....I've spent the 2019/2020 transition trying to determine if my past 10 years have either been following a tangent of my own ramblings, or if I've been surrounding myself with the wrong people and environments.
GREAT EPISODE!!! Thanks so much. 👍👍👍👍👍
Great comment, thumbs up - dropping wisdom, 👌👌👍👍✌✌

@@LimoneneDaddy....Thank you. I watch tons of Mr. Rogans' videos and I love the perspectives they offer, this one really struck me.
