***** Yeah, what an awful interviewer. RDJ is loved by loads of fans, whereas this loser is now hated. What the fuck does prison have to do with Avengers? Lol.
***** Sure he did NOT, What an honest person would say is, Yes those issues are in the Past I don't do drugs anymore and my issues are none of your business and now about the Movie... RDJ couldn't truthfully say that because He's still on drugs and he's still going to be a loser albeit a RICH loser who's afraid of the truth.
And it after he said "i don't know how comfortable you are", he came with that words by acknowledging Robert's clear annoyed response when saying "are we promoting a movie?" while also saw Roberts gesture and expression, at first i thought the quoted words from the interviewer above meant as an explanation of his annoying previous questions, as an implicit apology, and assure Robert that he will stop himself to ask any more personal question, but instead he went even further like a total dumb, obnoxious and rude person
Your foot started jumping a bit and had better get to the next question.. It sounds like a warning to me too. I think RDJ noticed that he was going to ask some inappropriate questions again by that time.
why did he seem uncomfy right when the video started? Did guru say something before the video started? This can't be the whole interview bcz this is just 6min. I wanted to find the moment where he didn't like guru but it seems like it happened right when the video started, which means there's gotta be more to this interview
@@calincampbell5123 Yeah the interviewer was clearly getting nervous and hemming hawing around his own questions because he knew damn well they were rude and off putting. Knee bouncing is a pretty common nervous reaction so my guess is RDJ saw it and called him out for it.
Total sleaze bags to do this and be so dishonest about their purpose. Shameful behavior and worse yet they have posted this as if proud of their actions.
@@kiriakoz It was a promotional event for the movie. He was one of many news representatives invited to promote the movie, not to conduct a reveal all interview of its leading actor and grill him on his past private troubles. they were there to promote the movie and talk about the movie and that is all that was agreed to. The interviewers behavior here is dishonest, inappropriate, and disgraceful. Walking out and calling him out for it was the appropriate response and shame on this news channel for its disgraceful and dishonest behavior and for posting this as if they are proud of their behavior. It has absolutely nothing to do with country of origin. Its dishonest behavior and a disgrace in the UK as well.
Robert Downey turned himself around. Cleaned up his act and now is one of the most successful and well known actors in the world. Idolized by millions of children and people all over the world. He gives his time and efforts to charities and people in need. Why oh why, bring up the past, a dark past that he has proved himself he no longer is? This was so disrespectful of the reporter to go down that path. Let Robert Downey enjoy and fulfill his new life, his new path. He earned it. Wow, this reporter has no class or respect for what Robert has accomplished.
Because a genuine Idol/hero story arc includes and fall from grace and then getting back up and reclaiming in spite of ever greater obstacles of their own creation. Therefore RDJr potentially can be role model to those in genuine need of a life line.
I’m just impressed how quickly him and his team were able to figure out what was going on and take immediate action. And obviously the interviewer was trying to marinate him in his own opinions, and make him say something that he might actually regret.
Exactly that. They rightfully terminated it. I think it's appalling the way KGM tried to trip him up and use his past against him, when all he wanted to do was talk about the movie. A wasted opportunity. The look on the camera guy's face at the end says it all.
I think it has more to do with the fact that in interviews there are always questions that are out of line and the PR team gives these « not to be asked » lists of questions to the network.. if it’s not respected then it’s a breach of contract, simple and done. Not everything has to be over sentimental.
this is so painful to watch because i genuinely feel bad for rdj. you could see that he was extremely uncomfortable but he tried his best to not be rude and be forgiving to the interviewer, which is why i love him so much
RDJ is a man that makes millions of dollars a year. You don’t need to feel bad for him. He was just simply caught off guard in this interview. Nothing more.
@@jmart1393 very ignorant statement to make. you're allowed to feel bad for someone. their income plays no part in it. just stop talking at this point💀
Blame him for what? He just walked out, kept a smile, wasn't rude at any point. The journalist on the other hand kept twisting the question like it was a huge deal.
Holy shit. It was clear as day that the poor guy was having a panic attack once the questions started getting more and more personal, yet the interviewer kept on anyway? I'm appalled. Downey's past has absolutely nothing to do with the movie, making it completely irrelevant to bring up! Good on Downey for walking out; the interviewer didn't deserve even another minute of his time.
***** If you're making a living off of the public, then you have the duty to give back. If you can't answer some simple questions about you, then you're just a big baby. The interviewer was doing nothing out of the ordinary.
***** The interviewer caused the panic attack. This entire thing is a typical scientology grilling, set-up and polished up to be acceptable to the world to discredit RDJ.
BayviewFinch Except those questions were not simple. They were obviously causing Downey a lot of pain, as was clear by his body language (for example, heavy breathing) near the end of the interview. Or is that ordinary as well?
There is a time and place. This was like having your ex stand up during your wedding and give a speech about the time you both were taking antibiotics for a mutual STD.
Geography Now I don't know what Channel 4's intentions where for uploading the video even though I agree with you but at least they had the balls to show how unprofessional they were on this specific interview (I haven't seen any of their other videos).
Geography Now I agree with what you said, but you have to understand, channel 4 is trying to compete with bbc news and media (of which gets free money from taxpayers) so they don't have to keep fighting for view or whatever. Essentially they have a monopoly. You have to remember though that channel 4 is a good company overall. Dispatches, risky documentaries, spending money to go to the courts etc. Sure they are about entertainment and profit but also do things other channels are afraid to do.
Geography Now The closeups and everything when he went into a personal question about RDJ's life is pretty sick. It was like they wanted a reaction and wanted to emphasize how heated the conversation was getting to get some buzz.
As someone who suffers with Father issues and addiction I can see why he walked off... He handled that way better than I would have..... Anyone who fights their demons everyday would react the same way to someone asking if they're over their struggles... Robert Downey Jr. Is a class act in my opinion.
He was completely right to walk out. This questions were absolutely rude and definetely not what the interview was meant for. No one should get treated with such disrespect.
And that my friends is how you handle people trying to get a rise out of you for no apparent reason. Leave them with a smile and walk away. Props to RDJ.
It's at 4:00 when you see in Robert Downey Jr's eyes say, "What the heck is wrong with you and what are doing?" I've run into people like this "journalist", whose idea of entertainment seems to be inciting pain in others. I'm sorry Mr. Downey was placed in that situation, but very happy with the apparent patience and maturity in choosing to not waste his time and indulge someone like that. Thumbs up for this video of Downey, thumbs down for the people responsible.
SO DISGUSTING! THIS INTERVIEWER IS AN OUTRAGE TO PROFESSIONALISM, AND THE ARTS. IT IS MORE THAN OBVIOUS HE WAS AIMING FOR HIS 2 PATHETIC SECONDS OF FAME. HE CLEARLY DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH INTELLECT TO KNOW HIS SUCCESS ISN'T GOING TO COME FROM EXPLOITING ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL
6:17...You can see how his mood changed when he started to talk about his father. His face went straight and his breathing went heavy. I applaud the fact that RDJ didn't start a fight or get nasty with him. He just left and removed himself from the situation.
"Oh I'm just asking questions" No, you are being highly intrusive and you can't take an easily identifiable hint. Your interviewee has the right to say or not say whatever they want to, you are on their time, not the other way around. Now in general, people can say or not say whatever they want, but in this specific scenario, it'd be in your best interest to be sociable and open, given that this is your job, mate.
Anthony Finley Seriously, I knew it would be this asshat when I saw the link on Reddit. This guy is such a douche and then when people walk out on him or refuse his questions he plays the victim so well. Please, please, please somebody fire this guy!
Anthony Finley Sadly, most, if not all, the media industry finds a way to build up celebs as high as they can then try to find a way to slam them down to the core. They like to have so many ppl 'idolize' them, then they bore out & like to twist things around to add drama for their amusement. -.- Poor RDJ look as if his eyes watered up around the end, while breathing almost sporadically, as if he was going to have an anxiety attack, but hey! RDJ walked away like a BOSS.
Deon Raghunandan Fire him for being curious? How about if Robert Downey Jr. told him that he didn't feel comfortable talking about that and requested that they skip those questions? Or did that not cross your mind at all? You people act like it was some inhumane atrocity that he committed... He asked a question that MANY people were curious about. Robert completely recovered from his horrible past that he ultimately inflicted on himself, most people are willing to discuss their mistakes and share their experiences, how was the interviewer supposed to know that he didn't want to discuss it? People are curious about the personal lives of famous people, what did you expect he was gonna ask him? But I do agree that personal questions shouldn't be in movie-based interviews, but can't blame him for asking either.
Luis Ahumada Robert clearly gave the interviewers signals meaning he didn't want to answer these kinds of questions, and you can see he takes it upon himself to stay calm and under control, yet the interviewer continues. It's not an atrocity, but it's stupid, unpolite and unrespectful, and he's in the wrong, not Robert.
Luis Ahumada Curious yes,but this is not film promo related, thats for the likes of glossys, and tabloids to do.One would hope he would have the inteligance to be able to deferinciate!he's just riding on the back of the interveiw with Micheal Jackson, and Ithink his bosses, have been holding out for the same hope for too long,he needs putting out to ppasture.this was no interveiw it washopful, manipulation!
Luis Ahumada I don't know about fire him either, but it seems that you overlooked the fact that Robert Downey Jr DID let him know multiple times that he didn't want to pursue that line of questioning. An agenda for the interview had obviously already been set and Robert was completely being patient even when the interviewer deviated from it. It was only after about the 3rd time that the interviewer disrespected Downey's wishes that the manager gave him the green light to walk off. I bet the reporter's employer is the one who put him on to doing it in the first place.
Luis Ahumada It was obvious that Robert Downey Jr. was getting uncomfortable after the change of subject in the beginning and then the reporter went for a more sensitive subject.. You may want to watch again the interviewer was a complete idiot and should reconsider his job! It is obvious he sucks at journalism..
For someone who's trying to do better, the most destructive thing another person can do is bring up their past. If they're making it right, stfu and leave it alone. The man conquers his addiction every day. Respect.
this will have been discussed before the interview. boundaries will have been set. the interviewer chose the path of bad manners: 'you don't have to answer if you don't want to'. That told everyone in the room the interviewer was about to be exceptionally unprofessional.
As a recovering addict, I don't blame him at all for walking out. We don't need to explain why we have done what we've done in the past, we move past it and better ourselves and that is what RDJ has done. Also, this would be aired to the entirety of the world so a definitive no go for myself personally as well.
It's hard to move on from something if people keep shoving it back into your face like this. The thing is, there's a lack of sympathy for famous people because they are envied. I guess I finally see what they were talking about by calling it a sin.
and this really isn't the place! ... he has a whole day of banal promo interviews to do.. its hard enough to look enthusiastic without having just been triggered by past difficult memories.
I have prayed for this man several times when it was on my heart that he was troubled with drugs and addiction to drugs and I am so proud of Robert Downey Jr. because now he has children and I believe that God saved his life. People need to think before they talk. Why bring up Robert’s past….the past is in the past……he got hurt because this interviewer had to dredge up the past in order to increase his ratings….selfishness always hurts people…lesson learned….this interviewer went way too far.
First rule about interviews: Never, EVER, stray from the point of why you were there in the first place. You are there for the film, talk about the film. Common sense 101.
N Slater ahahaha I AGREE, thats what made chris brown throw a chair out the window. But seriously though I think he ran out of questions to ask or probably didn't come prepared, so he tried to talk out of his ass. Robert knew he losing it hence pointing out his feet movements LOL. poor guy.
N Slater result from straying? 4 million views on 1 day. I think the interviewer got the exposure he wanted this way much faster than if no "incident" happened. (obviously the cost of this will be huge for the interviewer and the channel in the future)
N Slater Robert Downey Junior is a Scumbag who thinks he is a special person with lots of money, doesn't want journalist to ask him questions he doesn't like.
yes, you can see him getting progressively more agitated after about the 4:00 point but what’s heartbreaking is visibly seeing him get more and more uncomfortable and his breathing get heavier while his stare zeroes in. I just wanna give him a hug in that moment.
CONGRATULATIONS Channel 4 News !! By posting this video and receiving millions of worldwide views for your hard, edgy (read obnoxious, arrogant & rude ) interviewer Krishnan Guru-Murthy you have pretty much guaranteed he will blacklisted by every major studio for any future interviews. Serves you right.
Also this interview was 8 years ago. It’s not been pointed out in the comments that RDJ got sober in 2003. And the interviewer asks him if he’s really done with all of that? He’s been sober for 13 years at that point, what a dumbass question. First he shouldn’t have asked that question because the interview was not about his past personal life struggles but a movie promo. Second of all, you don’t ask that question and I don’t know if he meant to frame it how he did - but it seems clear from his body language and language that he didn’t know what he was talking about and just wanted to get some sensationalism out of the interview. Pathetic journalistic integrity.
"Your foot is starting to jump a little, you better jump to your next question". *Awkward silence* RDJ is a freaking boss, that interviewer must have been shiting himself at the end.
@@mariafernandavelascohernan5839 I think he said it to make the interviewer intimidated and back of from sensitive questions like he asked Kinda like "I know what you're doing, and I see you're nervous going to that questions so cut it out"
Ⓡσxxιє Ɗαωɳ Dislike it, it's the Channel 4 youtube channel so if you like it, you're helping the interviewer, RDJ has literally left the building, he's not paying attention to this vid anymore, the only people who will see your likes and dislikes are this crappy interviewer and his bosses
Ⓡσxxιє Ɗαωɳ I choose dislike. I gave them their view, but I also gave them my opinion on how they handled the interview. If it was Robert posting the video, I would have liked it because it shows how you should handle ass hats if a neat famous guy.
Notice how Krishnan tenses up a bit and hesitates before asking Robert the last question. He KNEW that what he was about to ask was inappropriate and over the line, yet he asked it anyway.
Exactly this. Guru-Murthy's instincts were telling him that he should not continue this line of questioning, yet he decided against using his better judgment. And look what happened.
@@KurtisC93 Yep, and when he said "I'm just asking questions" is that exact moment when he was internally rationalising going against that better judgement.
Dang dude, as a former addict/alcoholic myself, my heart broke while I was watching this. Especially when the interviewer brought up his dad. I am extremely embarrassed about my past and I can only imagine how rdj felt during this exchange.
i hear ya dude ! im honest about my past . dont mind to talk about it but not going to bring my parents in the middle of it , they did there job .i learned to be a junkie all by myself , little different in his case i know but i personally think that was proper time for throat punch. did i mention i had to go anger management twice.?
Was this guy going for some kind of Oprah-style interview? He's promoting a movie and this guy wants to start bringing up his past and relationship with his father and shit. No wonder he walked out of it. As soon as you start bringing up politics and family then things tend to go sour. The interviewer was noticeably very hesitant to go for that line of questioning but did it anyway and got an appropriate response.
SGTBizarro They're basically not allowed to advertise things on this channel. So they have to disguise that they're promoting something by talking about a bunch of semi-related stuff.
SGTBizarro RDJ did what most of us would do in that situation, including me. That guy had some nerve asking him those sorts of prying, personal, out of context questions. I am glad RDJ walked out and refused to let that guy play whatever game he was at. RDJ's response was the only thing appropriate about the whole situation.
I really like how he paused to say "you're okay," it's just the way you're coming at me. Like that's really gracious that he went to the extra effort to make it clear he wasn't mad or hateful and he wasn't trying to fight.
They think they are the ones who are going to get the "gotcha" moment, but they don't get to decide that. They aren't interviewers they are are paparazzi with chairs.
@RaviPalAkaVasu RDJ was there to promote Age of Ultron, and instead the interviewer asked him all these personal, hurtful questions. Diane Sawyer is an old school journalist who would usually do those kind of heavy interviews, but RDJ was only there to talk about the MCU. His interviewer was an asshole basically and shouldve kept the interview light hearted and fun.
@@He4Fr Also, Diane Sawyer is a really classy person and reporter. She knows how far of what is allowed to go, and when to STOP. If RDJ, really wanted to sit down for one of these types of interviews, he quite probably would have sat with her.
I'm proud of him, sticking up for himself and walking away instead. The interview was supposed to be about the movie, not a therapy section, and it was a hard time in his life, and he didn't want to talk about it He handled it in a mature, respectful way, I think, I wouldn't know what to do tbh
How do you know the interview was supposed to be ONLY about the movie? You're a huge star with a checkered past. You seriously expect anyone to believe that you're so caught off guard and rattled by such a question? Tony Stark would be ashamed of this performance.
@@jameshicks7632 Because RDJ said "I'm sorry, aren't we promoting a movie?" These were questions about the movie with some parallels with RDJ as Tony Stark. But then the interviewer started questioning his political views and bringing up the past. Clearly an attack.
@@jameshicks7632he answered that many times right after it happened. He wants to put it behind him and promote the movie. Not talk about politics and his time in rehab.
ste bostock Definitely! What a plonker.. There is a time and a place, RDJ gave him at least two chances to change the subject back to something relevant and yet he just kept pushing.
Poor Robert I could see his arousal levels hitting the ceiling. How could a trained reporter not see that as well? He's an actor promoting a new movie, so interview him on his work not his past. BTW, Robert handled himself marvelously.
I see what you did there with the whole "marvelously". But yeah I agree. The reporter should've known better. Don't go personal if a) you're promoting a movie and b) the person is getting uncomfortable.
Tangerine Farmer the reporter "doesn't see it" because the reporter doesn't care. getting to those questions was the whole point of the interview in the first place. he was going to try to ask them regardless of Downey's reaction. but yah i applaud Downey on his self control. obvious by his body language and look on his face, before he finally walked out, that he was getting super pissed off.
JoseLuis Requejo-Tejada He answered the personal question from David Letterman, 'when do you turn 50 ?' Drug question is relevant as the film is not certificate R so kids will need guidance to see it if RDJ has not learned from his experience. His appeal is that he is a come back story so what he came back from is the essence of all interviews.
Catherine SlaterY Kids don't need guidance from strangers (celebrities are strangers too you know), they need guidance from their parents. If their parents aren't intelligent enough to give that guidance to their children, one wonders why they had children in the first place. Parents should NEVER try to step away from their responsibility to their own children. If you don't understand what this means, please never have kids okay?
My heart started pounding when he started talking about drugs. 😂 and I felt his heart pounding too. So irrelevant. This is a movie promo interview - not a tell all. Also you don’t say are you sure you’re past all that or given all that up or whatever he said, wtf. Ofc he’s sober and this is 13 yrs after he got sober. Stop trying to be sensationalist and look like a buffoon.
In spite of how rude this interviewer was, Robert handled this very well. He had every right to get angry at him about his demeanour but he kept cool and professional all of the way through and left respectfully, hats off to him.
***** This guy is looking to for controversy, RDJ is just trying to promote his movie, whats the point of bringing up his past, that was done years ago, and it's already out in the open. RDJ isn't running for president hes just promoting a movie, damn the interviewer was a prick
1LIFEtoWIN Verbatim. Poor RDJ looked as if on the verge of crying b.c the past was VERY dark for him. He's strong though as he decided to walk out & kept moving on!
Diego Valdez Also props to RDJ for being extremely professional. He was clearly visibly upset, but still waited for the OK from his people before walking out. and calling the interviewer out on his persistence of a subject that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie they're meant to be promoting. Robert clearly didn't sign up for an interview about his past & the interviewer was crossing the line.
Shay Mary I saw it too. It nearly made me tear up. To see his pain in his eyes. His heavy breathing. I'd be just the same in front of a camera, being on the spot :/
***** True, but when you have a movie star just doing the rounds for a new movie it isn't really the time to get all serious. RDJ is probably doing 10 of these things a day ramping up to the movie and doesn't want to have to deal with some guy try to stir the pot.
Haniff Din But the interview was supposed to be a Movie promotion, NOT a psychological dig into Downey's past relationship with his father FFS ! I'd have walked out too, but not before reading this rude reporter. Downey tried several times to cordially get him back on track but he just kept digging deeper and deeper into non-movie related issues.
You could tell the interviewer was having an inward mental battle of whether or not he would ask the last question when he knows he shouldn't and he went and did it. What a failure
Amy L Not only that, he kept pushing. It was obvious RDJ was getting flustered it seemed everyone except the interviewer could read the atmosphere and mood. In my opinion I think Robert did great in sticking around as long as he did, had it been me I would of left the moment those type of questions came the third - fourth time.
***** its clear its just a crappy reporter's attempt to get his time in the spotlight...either that or yea like otehr people said producers egged him on to get his youtube channel more views...its silly
As a PTSD patient I could sense and see the signs of negative trigger in him, in his mimic, his breathing etc. It's not a nice feeling to be triggered like that, I am glad the lady in the background helped him to stop the interview.
The worst thing about this is that Robert Downey jr tried to save this interview a couple of times by diverting the attention away from his private life and back to his new movie. He also tried to play it off as a joke. He gave this interviewer so many outs and opportunities to read the room and change his course, it’s ridiculous. When he realised that that wouldn’t happen he set his boundaries. Good for him!
Robert already had a difficult childhood and youth because of his father. This dishonor is bleeding the man's bleeding wound again for the sake of rating. Robert still remained calm, but his eyes filled with tears. We love you JR.
@Dr. Harshad Ramineni His dad gave him his first dose of heroin before he hit double digits. His dad effectively started him on the path to drugs and it led to him getting sent to prison. So it’s an EXTREMELY touchy subject for him.
As a reporter/interviewer he should have done his research before asking him questions, there just those topics that are too sensitive for them to reminisce and shared to the public. RDJ did right by walking out than lashing out at him. I know reporters are curious to know more juicy details and tend to take advantage of the things they collect but one thing that guys like him in the media world lack is being sensitive
dolly l Yeah, and I bet they wanted a flip-out. They LOVE doing that to people. Even when he just handled it well and walked out they titled it this way and left it in.
DaFoxxx28 Couldn't agree more. And the way he was approaching the question. "Can I ask you" the umming and ahhing and not getting to a point. Just crap through and through. Also it appears it was his publicist / manager that ended the interview not RDJ. Well handled by RDJ and his team.
This channel does that intentionally. They want them to bring up controversy and past traumas that the person has gone through because they know they'll either walk out or have a warranted freak out moment which will get views. Hence why this currently has 14 million views.
@@kirmeister8207 Yup , watery eyes and sometimes people start shaking too with held back anger - arrogant people mistake it for fear/weakness. They soon learn... 😂
RDJ is such an inspiration to me as far as going through what he went through and coming out shining. I did some of the same things, got locked up for it, and am a better person today because of it.
RDJ handled that perfectly. Around 5:50 you can tell he's becoming very agitated, and then at 6:14 you can then see an almost terrifying look in his eyes. It almost look like he wanted to kill the interviewer, but he got out of there calmly and before he did anything regrettable. Well Done
@@succubus20y Bullshit, he was just trying bait a negative response like poking a bear with a stick. RDJ's past is well known in the celebrity world, its old news and been done to death so what is there to be controversial about? It was just a cheap shot and utterly disrespectful.
Robert Downey Jr. was literally having a panic attack- You could see it by how he was turning his head and literally freaking out. The guy had a bad past give him a break.. "Do you think you're free of all of that?"... That's a god-awful question to ask anyone. I love him all the more now for showing that he's human.
Matthew Becker A panic attack? More like he was looking at his agent like "who the fuck is this guy and why are we seriously in this interview? Fix this!"
Can't agree more with RDJ's action, the interviewer is horrible, communicating with your guest is a skill and obviously this interviewer is way under skilled.
Kanan Al-Ghalib Nicely said, I would say that talking about one's past might be acceptable, but this guy didn't seem to be heading anywhere with the questions, and once RDJ gave him a response, he kept pushing it like he wanted a more in-depth answer on something RDJ already said was basically old and silly, and obviously didn't want to elaborate on.
Kanan Al-Ghalib dont hate on the interviewer just because he put RDJ in a uncomfortable position, that's his job, to get info he is after all a journalist and he digs deep and ask questions like this. It's not his fault RDJ did not want to answer.
Stefan Trajkovski Clearly when RDJ went into this interview he assumed it would be about the recent movie he worked on and film related questioning. Doesn't matter if the guy is a "Journalist" there still needs to be a right place and time to ask extremely personal and obviously painful questions.
Kanan Al-Ghalib He trying to make a name off of that bull ish. At what point did he forget he's interviewing DISNEY who is part of tha BIG machine that works with Major media. They CAN SHUT THAT STATION DOWN lol haha h;D He is IRON MAN lol haha ;D
Kanan Al-Ghalib This interviewer obviously misunderstood the preconceptions people like RDJ are going to have about talking to a nobody about a movie. This interview in his mind was supposed to be a discussion about the movie and the character and his costars, not a tell all. RDJ is waaaay past the point of having to open up about anything.
RDJ was being such an accommodating guest and giving really great answers to the honestly lukewarm warm questions. If buddy had have engaged him on any genuine level it would’ve been a hit
As a kid I never understood why reporters would be attacked or why celebrities lost their cool. As I've gotten older, I wonder why it doesn't happen more often. Good for RDJ.
Yeah unfortunately it takes us growing up to see the subtleties of actions perpetrated by slimeballs like this reporter who will turn right around and deny they are trying to poke the bear. It's happening a lot in political discourse as well. What a coward.
As a kid I never understood why well paid actors with adoring fans still managed to stuff up their lives. As I've gotten older, I'm really pleased the media hold them to account. If you can't stand five minutes of heat, don't work in a kitchen.
@@atholbirkmyre3504Being "well-paid with adoring fans" doesn't mean someone should be ambushed with deeply invasive questions about troubled areas of their past.
@@atholbirkmyre3504 What are you talking about? He handled the situation masterfully. He, fortunately, is in a position where he doesn't need to stay in that situation that the reporter put him through. He just left, and it is his right. Stop being a douche.
Big respect for Robert right now. This is something that doesn't need to be brought up and there was really no reason for it. This interview was about the future and all Krishnan wanted to do was focus on the past and try to ask questions that no one else had asked.
Jaydon Tobler I honestly didn't know about Robert's past until now(shame on me, I live under a rock) but I do agree that bringing up his past wasn't a smooth move whatsoever.
Jaydon Tobler Props to Robert Downey Jr. for not falling for this liberal asshole's gotcha questions. What is up with British liberals of Pakistani / Indian decent doing these inappropriate interviews? This Krishnan guy wanted to be infamous so he can be the fat version of Martin Bashir. Absolutely disgusting individual.

Many people don't get it, is not a fan boy issue, is an ethical issue, when you schedule an interview, you have to tell the interviewed what is the interview going to be about, in this case: an interview from a promotional movie, if you in the middle of the interview change the deal (the matter of the interview) you are losing the confidence of the interviewed, and making feel betrayed, this was a total ambush and was ok for RDJ to go out because of that.
Mauricio Arroyave Thumbs up sir, this is exactly what I was thinking, there are rules with interviews, did KGM feel that he needed an award by traipsing up the past, that RDJ has spent a long time making up for an putting behind him? Did he watch 'The Interview' movie and think "I should do that stuff". RDJ did the perfect thing, politely stopped and walked away from it all. Shame on Channel 4, you disgrace the country that airs you.
Mauricio Arroyave Exactly. This is a press tour for a superhero movie not a one on one personal interview where he can ask the hard hitting tough questions. Everybody knew this before they sat down to talk. Instead the guy asked loaded questions to try to sneak an exposé in with about 3 minutes of interview time left. With the only justification being you have said this in other interviews in the past. Are you a Liberal? I wanna ask you about your father. Do you think you are truly free of all the drugs from the past and are a different person from the one who was arrested in 2008, Really Dude? I mean, Really? The loaded question he asked Tarantino got the same kinda response. Basically attempted to manipulate Tarantino into stating that his movies insight and inspire violence. I hate sensationalism that pretends to be insightful journalism. Downey should have been like, alrightso you want to waist the last 2 mintues of your time asking me questions I may not feel comfortable answering. Okay then I am just going to respond like Beast Mode from the Seattle Seahawks and just say "I am only here because I don't want to get a fine." LOL
He did not compromise his integrity, kudos to him! I am glad to see other people supporting this. Artists are not punching bags, they are a vital ingredient to the beauty of society!
Robert Downey Jr deserves an Oscar award after his performance in the Avengers movies good for Danny to walk off set in this interview he stood up for himself because Robert knows that bullying is not tolerated
This interviewer should be a villain in the next Iron Man film just so Downey Jr. can really unleash his full power and rage as he plays Iron Man against him. XD
Shelby James There won't be another with RDJ playing Iron Man. He stepped down shortly after Iron Man 3 and said his last Marvel movie would be Avengers: AoU.
He's perfectly allowed to leave. Interviewers are very invasive. It's toxic. People love the drama too but his life isn't a reality show. He's perfectly allowed to walk out if he so pleases. Boundaries 💖
william gallagher These interviewer types tell themselves that even bad press is good press. They like all the attention even if it's bad. Hurrah for you anyway, Robert Downey, for not taking this guy's crap!
william gallagher The funny thing is, if you like or dislike, its still good for their video and salary. RUclips counts likes and dislikes as the same point of feedback.
I know this is an old interview but I am with RDJ and totally understand him. Why did the interviewer turn something that was supposed to be promoting the movie into a sort of "therapy session". Leave the personal questions out, dude. Robert's body language about that looked so uncomfortable and I don't blame him for walking out.
He handled it so well, I felt terrible for him though. You could see how uncomfortable he was but he gave the guy some humor instead of lashing out. RDJ is such a classy man!
That interviewer is disgustingly unprofessional. His questions were bland until they got personal, and even he knew he was getting on Robert’s nerves towards the end. Good on Robert Downey Jr for walking out. It was meant to be an interview, not a clown asking stupid questions.
3:50 Laughs, slightly nervously 4:03 Smile vanishes, looks at publicist for reassurance, publicist says keep rolling, nothing too weird right now. Smiles again, more nervously, just for the camera. 4:18 Starts to breathe faster. Gives a close-ended answer and hints the interviewer to move on. 4:58 "Are we promoting a movie?" Looks at publicist silently: "Where is he going with this?" Agent's like yeah RDJ, this guy's going off tangent. 5:37 Coughs nervously, fidgets in his seat, looks around the room. "You have as much time as anyone else." Tight closed smile. Eyes staring hard. (At this point interviewer should have apologised gracefully and continued to talk about the movie instead of dwelling on RDJ'S personal past, which is ancient history to the rest of the world.) 5:50 Looks around the room again. It's obvious RDJ doesn't want to be there anymore. 5:57 "Your foot's starting to jump a little bit", you better get to your next question." Stares harder. Smile all but gone. Point of no return for the interviewer - there's no graceful way out of this. 6:15 Obviously hyperventilating now. Belligerent face that says "Dude you're this close to getting punched in the nose if I had my way. We're done here." 6:30 "I'm sorry, I really don't...w-what are we doing?" Looks at publicist, "let's end this". "Right...bye!" 6:40 Interviewer looks at him like a complete lemon as he gets up. 6:48 "You seem okay, it's just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here." Awesome repartée insult. In short: Krishnan has no clue how to read body language. The man has the interviewing skills of a peanut. I'm surprised he still has a job in the broadcasting industry as at 2022.
5:48 right here, is when Robert started getting upset. He answered the first few questions though. The interviewer could've realized he was awkward and change the subject XD
The interviewer was being awkward on purpose: he's a jackass named krishnan guru murthy - he works for Channel 4: a channel that always tries to be 'edgy' and 'controversial': it's a cesspool of a channel.
You've obviously misjudged this entire thing if you think this is a matter of him being awkward. It's a complete, nuclear destruction of boundaries and a 90 degree shift in what the interview is meant to be, promoting a film.
So relieved to come on here and see majority of the comments are for Robert 😌 I felt so bad for him and my mood changed too at 4 minutes. It took a dark turn in a direction that was disrespectful and irrelevant to the interview and definitely none of their business! I applaud him for walking out!👏👏👏
The interviewer knew that the he was going to ask some personal off topic questions that will hit the nerve and at that point he had already agitated RDJ, he didn't know how RDJ would react to the question, and he started getting nervous and apparently started moving his foot. RDJ saw it and called him on it! but the tool didn't take a hint and still went ahead and asked him anyway causing RDJ to walk out...telling him that he was a schmuck!! lol
MarioRossiAncora yes, and RDJ is such a nice person that he still let him off way too easy. To be honest, if it was someone else in his place he/she would have tore him a new one. Good for RDJ!!!
For views. This interviewer's well known for that kind of treatment of guests. Like a real low-life, he tries to upset those he lures onto his show for the views it will bring..
Imagine if this guy interviewed one of the Furious 7 cast members (Vin Diesel or Tyrese Gibson specifically) and he went too far by trying to force them to talk about Paul Walker's death? Lol he'd get a straight punch to the face
I get the point you are trying to make and thumbs up but I think furious 7 is the wrong example to compare with because with that film a lot of the talk is about the death of Paul and them getting through completing the film without him so I think as opposed to this rdj interview I think the furious 7 stars were prepared to be asked questions about the filming process and the emotion of Paul's death and how it impacted filming... Though personal, his death was one of the major factors of this film its completion and script changes... As opposed to the Robert Downey junior interview where his past drug issues and personal downfall have absolutely nothing to do with the avengers and its plot
***** It'd be more like asking Vin Diesel if his outward displays of sadness for Paul Walker were because his father abused him. But about the same effect would've occurred. I applaud RDJ for not giving the interviewer what should've been coming his way.
***** If he'd got a punch in the face, it would of ruined the actor's name completely. If that were me and I got punched whilst interviewing someone, no matter if I went too far or not, I'll be pressing charges and make sure that they can never go on air on that channel again. I'd do everything in my power to fuck with them, you do not punch anybody in the face on camera, especially on an interview. You conduct yourself properly, tell them you do not wish to talk about it, and if they still insist then you walk out. Without singing the talent release if they're that stupid that they make you sign it afterwards.
RDJ handled that fool like a champ.
***** His publicist is getting a bonus this week...Love the look he gives her..that WTF is going on here...RJW paid the price for his demons
***** Yeah, what an awful interviewer. RDJ is loved by loads of fans, whereas this loser is now hated. What the fuck does prison have to do with Avengers? Lol.
I agree, and I am quite proud of RDJ for doing it too!

Can’t blame him. He gave as many non-verbal warnings as possible and the man kept pushing.

@@calincampbell5123 Yeah the interviewer was clearly getting nervous and hemming hawing around his own questions because he knew damn well they were rude and off putting.

This comment is the best summary of this train wreck of an interview so far.
Hahaha your comment is good. But very true. Let’s talk about this kids movies and how relatable it is to when you use to do drugs. lol 😅
Total sleaze bags to do this and be so dishonest about their purpose. Shameful behavior and worse yet they have posted this as if proud of their actions.
For Americans, everything is about money, so all the interviews people do there are the most boring, mealy mouthed interviews anyone can bare.
@@kiriakoz It was a promotional event for the movie. He was one of many news representatives invited to promote the movie, not to conduct a reveal all interview of its leading actor and grill him on his past private troubles.

Wow, this reporter has no class or respect for what Robert has accomplished.

Exactly! He's such an inspiration to me!
YES .... The The interviewer acts like my mom HAAAAAA 💀
Because a genuine Idol/hero story arc includes and fall from grace and then getting back up and reclaiming in spite of ever greater obstacles of their own creation.
Therefore RDJr potentially can be role model to those in genuine need of a life line.
Wow, he really is iron man...
His breathing got faster at the end. It was obvious that he was uncomfortable/angry. It’s the fight or flight response.
And his eyes sort of zeroing in on a target so to speak.... he was so ready for the fight but made the professional flight response. Good man.
This is weird...I saw you on another video...people were questioning why you had 11 years ago in your name...
His face definitely hardened as soon as his dad came up
Of course, that stupid reporter just stepped on his toes, big time, and then just kept going! So unprofessional.
6:15 is what "barely contained rage" looks like.
What I love is how Robert’s team are calling it off even before Robert says “bye” because they see how hurt he is about this horrible question.
yeah...they understand him already and prepared to leave
they’re real ones
His team has his back
I think it has more to do with the fact that in interviews there are always questions that are out of line and the PR team gives these « not to be asked » lists of questions to the network.. if it’s not respected then it’s a breach of contract, simple and done. Not everything has to be over sentimental.

You are being naive.
What I really hate is how Chanel 4 STILL uploads this with an intention to grasp on to any exploited attention views they can from it.

Poor RDJ look as if his eyes watered up around the end, while breathing almost sporadically, as if he was going to have an anxiety attack, but hey! RDJ walked away like a BOSS.
Jaden Bass Where did you learn this about the interviewer? It's my very first time seeing him actually...
Shay Mary He also riled up Quentin Tarantino once.
Honestly you should be fired because bringing up a past he doesn't feel comfortable talking about is not how you do a movie promotion
They lied about what they were going to talk about, tricky.

Ⓡσxxιє Ɗαωɳ I choose dislike. I gave them their view, but I also gave them my opinion on how they handled the interview. If it was Robert posting the video, I would have liked it because it shows how you should handle ass hats if a neat famous guy.

Well, I'm gonna like this comment
Notice how Krishnan tenses up a bit and hesitates before asking Robert the last question. He KNEW that what he was about to ask was inappropriate and over the line, yet he asked it anyway.
Exactly this. Guru-Murthy's instincts were telling him that he should not continue this line of questioning, yet he decided against using his better judgment. And look what happened.
@@KurtisC93 Yep, and when he said "I'm just asking questions" is that exact moment when he was internally rationalising going against that better judgement.
That question wasn’t even cohesive. Fumbling around to create a narrative.
He's anasshole go back India
"None of us are our persona's"
That's a golden statement that got overlooked.
SGTBizarro Diane Sawyer is what RDjr. compared this with not Oprah...if u missed that...;-)
deejazzdancer I heard what he said, that was just my take on it.
SGTBizarro nah, he's kind of a troll. its his style to wind up his guests to get outbursts etc. now he's on youtube's top watched videos UK #1
True. I love that too! RDJ is a very intelligent man. He’s very talented and humble.
Yes! I loved the way he just quiet walked away from the interview.
I'm pretty sure he said the journalist was getting a bit "diana sawyer-y"
"Getting kinda Diana Sawyer-y and youre kind of a schmuck."
Exactly the type of thing these "interviewers" need to be told.
What does that mean ?
The interview was supposed to be about the movie, not a therapy section, and it was a hard time in his life, and he didn't want to talk about it
He handled it in a mature, respectful way, I think, I wouldn't know what to do tbh

Definitely! What a plonker.. There is a time and a place, RDJ gave him at least two chances to change the subject back to something relevant and yet he just kept pushing.
GuMpAkC
Well that's very true, not from me though.
Tangerine Farmer that reporter is a dumb fuck what he was asking was WAY TOO PERSONAL
JoseLuis Requejo-Tejada He answered the personal question from David Letterman, 'when do you turn 50 ?' Drug question is relevant as the film is not certificate R so kids will need guidance to see it if RDJ
has not learned from his experience.
I feel like I can feel rdj's heart pounding every second after the words "your incarceration" =(
My heart started pounding when he started talking about drugs.
He didn’t even get angry. He just left the situation. He didn’t want to talk publicly about those topics. Which is his choice to make.
Round of applause for Robert Downey Jr. for taking a stand for personal privacy.
👏👏👏👏👏
Shay Mary I saw it too. It nearly made me tear up. To see his pain in his eyes. His heavy breathing. I'd be just the same in front of a camera, being on the spot :/
That's the same guy that pissed off Tarantino. He's doing it on purpose.
PT111111 Can I have a link? What'd he do?
Haniff Din Expose egos by talking of someone dad death is a shame excuse to defend this type of behaviour.
Those actors agreed to the interview to promote their movies, not to have their private lives put in the spotlight.
He failed big time
it IS his job to ask interesting questions..
@@andipandi5641If the interviewer asked respectful, mild questions and all went smoothly, this clip would not have 14 million views.

Murphy Nguyen Right? You can obviously see his breathing accelerate when he realizes that guy wasnt gonna let it go
Amy L i agree, if i was in that situation i think i would have hit the guy by then lol

Michael Pietrzak he just wanted the truth, RDJ couldn't handle telling the truth, so he stormed off like a coward to do some coke in his hotel room
This was so uncomfortable. You could see RDJ breathing heavier when the interviewer started being invasive. Not cool on so many levels.
RDJ was sending strong signals to not go in a particular direction… interviewer nods and then floors it in that direction. Horrible dude
Robert already had a difficult childhood and youth because of his father. This dishonor is bleeding the man's bleeding wound again for the sake of rating. Robert still remained calm, but his eyes filled with tears. We love you JR.
We L💙ve you Robert!💙
What past what childhood? Can someone tell me what exactly happened?
@Dr. Harshad Ramineni
His dad gave him his first dose of heroin before he hit double digits.
Even when he just handled it well and walked out they titled it this way and left it in.
dolly l A good reporter/journalist asks about what they promised would be the interview about. An unethical asshole pulls shit like this.
dolly l The guy was just being a dick, nothing more
DaFoxxx28 Couldn't agree more. And the way he was approaching the question. "Can I ask you" the umming and ahhing and not getting to a point. Just crap through and through. Also it appears it was his publicist / manager that ended the interview not RDJ. Well handled by RDJ and his team.
dolly l Are you a reporter?
Why would you ask about his past when thats exactly what he wants to forget?
This channel does that intentionally. They want them to bring up controversy and past traumas that the person has gone through because they know they'll either walk out or have a warranted freak out moment which will get views. Hence why this currently has 14 million views.
I noticed that his eyes started to get watery and just so stiff at the end I really felt bad for him and disgusted at the interviewer

Matthew Becker A panic attack? More like he was looking at his agent like "who the fuck is this guy and why are we seriously in this interview? Fix this!"
Matthew Becker Probably more realistically, he was looking at his publicist who should've 86'd that line of questioning as soon as it started.
CthonicSoulChicken I actually didn't even think about his agent... lmao I would have loved to here there conversation afterwards
Kansas Foster Valid point.. I really don't know why anyone does interviews with this guy- His whole Quentin Tarantino scheme
Matthew Becker No doubt.
They CAN SHUT THAT STATION DOWN lol haha h;D
He is IRON MAN lol haha ;D
Kanan Al-Ghalib This interviewer obviously misunderstood the preconceptions people like RDJ are going to have about talking to a nobody about a movie. This interview in his mind was supposed to be a discussion about the movie and the character and his costars, not a tell all. RDJ is waaaay past the point of having to open up about anything.
Just look at 6:31. Robert's eyes were almost tearing up. He couldn't hold them anymore. He did the right thing. That presenter was a dullard.

Big respect for Robert right now. This is something that doesn't need to be brought up and there was really no reason for it.

“You can have opinions and they can change and flow” that’s so true!
Mauricio Arroyave You sir, deserve to be at the top of the list. Up you go.
Mauricio Arroyave Have a +1, you deserve it.
Mauricio Arroyave couldnt have said it better. Brilliantly put. Dunno where they get the basis to even delve into those sort of issues. Scary.

MarioRossiAncora yes, and RDJ is such a nice person that he still let him off way too easy. To be honest, if it was someone else in his place he/she would have tore him a new one. Good for RDJ!!!
I love him so much. I don’t know why anyone would intentionally make him uncomfortable like that.
I l💙ve him too!
For views. This interviewer's well known for that kind of treatment of guests. Like a real low-life, he tries to upset those he lures onto his show for the views it will bring..
Lol
Trueeee
Or Mike Tyson
I can imagine him saying “Jarvis can you help me out here”
