The A6400 doesn't have a recording limit.
Definitely prefer the look of the pictures and video on the m50. The color is really good.
Great video, Joe - it had plenty to think about! I'm more photographs than video, so seeing the colour differences was curious. I'm still on the side of Sony though - but that may be biased as I have the ZV-E10 and have been considering the 6400 - or even the 6700 - to accompany the already versatile (but viewfinder less) camera. Plenty of pluses on the Canon, for sure, so all down to preference.
Once again I think the M50 held its own here. I just prefer the colors that it can produce straight out of the box and when I first picked up the M50 after never using a camera outside my phone, I found the menu system was easy to learn because the menu itself literally teaches you how to use it 🤣 I think we as camera enthusiasts get caught up in if a camera can produce tack sharp 4K and the camera that can’t do that is automatically the loser, but when I take a step back and think about the majority of the videos I watch on RUclips, most of them are 1080p. A lot of people still don’t have 4K TVs so 4K is useless to them when viewing RUclips anyways. I think at the end of the day it’s really just about: what’s your budget, what do you want to use it for, what’s your aesthetic preference, and do you care about upgrading in the future? I really loved the bokeh on the sony but could never be bothered to use that tilt screen. 😅
You can just throw on a picture profile on the Sony, in body, and get that punchy high contrast look too
Every photo grapher post process their pictures which will produce better results if you shoot in raw with hlg or slog you can color grade it way better than the raw image output color grade of canon and also auto focus on Sony alpha 6400 is way better than mark 50 ii

Stabilization is an interesting issue. I have various Sony and Panasonic cameras. For handheld video I prefer to use either my Lumix G85 or my Sony HDR-AX53 camcorder. Built in stabilization for both does fairly well, and if I want better, I can add further stabilization in post using Pinnacle Studio. Pinnacle studio is slower because the software makes a full pass and calculates its own stabilization (completely independent of the camera), and then applies it in the second pass. But it works well enough, and maybe as well as Catalyst Browse on the new Sony cameras. That is something I don't know.
Wonderful comparison! Your humility and honesty shine through. What makes this choice very hard is that the Sony offers, according to you, hundreds of lenses, however, the Canon has in-body stabilization and the articulating screen! If you're shooting video, OIS is so helpful (yes, I know, one can buy lenses with OIS). FYI, the Sony audio was better. It was obvious as soon as you switched to the Canon mic. Decisions, decisions.

I’d say the A6400, hands down. The M50’s issues with AF in 4K and the 4K crop are more or less non-starters. In its defense, I did like the still image quality of the M50 a little bit more. But I would definitely choose the Sony over the Canon because it seems to get more things right in my mind. It just seems to have a lot more room to grow beyond a beginners camera..
I’m into filmmaking, and the simple fact that the A6400 had a lot more filmmaker-oriented features makes it s better choice for me. The M50 didn’t even offer a native Log option.
Now, if it was the EOS R50 against the A6400, that would be a different story. That would be where the Canon would have the advantage, if just barely.
I love your vids! I am thinking of buying the canon eos rebel t7 with a very good lens, mostly a 90mm or, instead, buy the sony A6400 with the normal kit lens, and little by little buy lenses. What would you do in my position? Btw I've got to spend less than 900 dollars! Cheers!

@@nortix1202 Indeed better. Slightly better, but the price difference is huge. For budget concious buyers, the slight advantage is not worth $200.
so if i add 50 mm lens on the canon it will be 81mm? That does make alot of diffrence of what i can get in the frame of the image :( . So not a small diffrence my friend. Btween those camera is like a small diffrence but can be huge on diffrente shots.

@@sashkochaikovski4630 I've been using this sony A6400 for years and never had complain in term of quality photo or video. Fast auto-focus, better dynamic range, good in lowlight. Only one minor problem is rolling shutter on 4K but can be fixed on post editing
Uhm I think you used the zv e10 for the mic test? Or was that a wording error and it was an a6400
Planning to buy one in the future for some photo but most video for vlog,
I really the a6400 but the screen is hard to see when vlogging with external mic, zve10? Or wait for zve10 m2
There is a fix for moving the position of the external mic with a dual cold shoe adapter unless you want to use the integrated hot shoe mic. With that adapter there isn’t an issue.

Canon M50 have add crop 1.5 in 4k and off dual pixel avtofocus. It.s very impotent for comparison!

I think sony and especially a6400 is far far away from canon m50 ii. The only edge of canon is IBIS but sharpness and autofocus is much better in a6400. Fuji and sony will sweep the camera industry in future.

Where is M50 Mark II half the cost?? Its just 10-15% cheaper compared to A6400 in India.. Plus video and AF wise A6400 can hold a candle even with A7III

Canon r50 or sony 6400
After using m50 mark ii for 3 month, i decided to sell it. Really stuck if we try to make smooth slomotion video because m50 mark ii only can produce 1080 resolution 60 fps, yups, you can make 120 fps video slomotion but 720 resolution while on a6400 we can produce 120 fps on 1080, also, m50 mark ii didn't have any flat profile for video meanwhile a6400 have 3 option special flat profile. Imo, for videography or cinematography, a6400 is way better than m50 mark ii

At 13:54 and 13:59, the a6400 colors look similar to the camera you used at 13:54, meanwhile M50 tends to add a bit of warmth to the colors, for me, I like realistic colors more
