Here is the recipe:
Make a simple yeast dough from 375 g flour, 7 g yeast, 250 ml warm water and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Leave to rest for an hour.
Then it's time to shape the pretzels. Depending on how big you want them to be, divide the dough into equal pieces (around 60 g each ).
Roll out the dough with your hands and shape the pretzels (tip: try to knead the part after resting as little as possible, this makes shaping easier).
In Germany, we always say „Übung macht den meister“ wich means with practice you will get better and better!
It's not that easy at first, but you you‘ll get a feel for it 👩🍳
Now you can put the lye on: Mix 40 g baking soda with 1 liter of water and let it boil for around 15 minutes.
‼️But be careful with the lye‼️
use safety glasses and gloves to dip the pretzels in it…or you can use other tools instead of gloves.
The lye is harmful to the skin and should also not come into contact with the eyes.
But don't worry, the lye is harmless after baking!
Now dip one pretzel after the other in the boiling lye for about 10 seconds.
Let them drain briefly, place them on a tray and immediately sprinkle them with coarse salt.
We bake them quite hot and briefly in our pizza oven... so a rough estimate with a normal oven would be around 392 F for 18 minutes.
Always chek the colour, when they are nice and brown, they are ready 🥨.
Our favorite way to eat them is with butter and chives!🤤

@@Intothewild-kikiandleon The "Dutch" in Pennsylvania Dutch comes from "Deutsch", these were German Imigrants manly from the South-west Part of Germany, (Pfalz) so its German with an accent. It developed over the centuries, but it is basically german.

Leon, do you know what type of rod and reel you were using to deep drop that first cast? That is a fly rod and it's mean to to top water fly fishing in a creek or stream (fresh water). I figure Jake and Nicole had several rods at your disposal.
