Well as a singer there are many advantages to direct your own ensemble. You can control the tempo every time you want to do an ornament or a long cadenza without get into a fight with the director. It permits a lot of expressive freedom for the singer.

As I work my way through the individual pieces of this concert, I become more and more impressed with them. Most are unfamiliar but quite enjoyable especially in this performance. Nathalie Stutzmann was quite unknown to me until recently and I find I am seeking out her other performances. Bravo, Madam.
She started Orfeo 55 herself as a means to be able to sign the pieces she wanted that were so often not performed. I guess, that being the case, she can pretty much sign and conduct however she wants since she is paying for it all!
