Hopefully the new version of Affinity Photo with image selection will be a good alternative. I know it's out in beta but I'm waiting for the final version. I love your channel and have learned a ton from you - especially your compound mask tutorials.

I've seen the beta. I do hope it will be very accurate even for hair or fur with one click but from the demos it seems you might still need to refine it.

This is the best tutorial I’ve found for selections! Thank you very much

Fantastic video! I hadn't really understood the "Refine" tool in Affinity, but now it's very clear.
I don't have Pixelmator, but do appreciate the comparison, and knowing there's an alternative which may possibly be better for some things. Thank you so much. (New subbie!)

Glad you found it helpful. Yes it's always interesting to look at the strength and weakness of tools given so many choices nowadays

Very useful ===> refine to new layer with mask does color decontamination!

I have both tools. Sometimes I do AP selection using one of the three channels because the contrast might be better for the refine tool. There are many videos on this process. I wish that both tools supported the ability to plugin the other. Since AP supports plugins I was hoping for a solution. AP on MAC plugins don't seem to work as well as AP for windows :(

Thanks for the tip. I did think of channels as well but I did not think it helped that much in the photos I used. Have to explore that more!

    Excellent Job. Thank you!!!

I don't use a Mac to there is only one option. At least it's a good option.

Yes a very good option. Multiplatform is one big advantage of Affinity!

That's a terrible selection; I'm only a part-time user but I was doing better selections than that with Photoshop 15 years ago.

      Photoshop has very good algorithms

@@takebetterphotos8132 I should have said 'in' Photoshop; I was doing the selecting using Calculations, Channels and the like.
