Couldn't agree more. I don't agree with the politics that brought us Black Christmas 2019 but that doesn't mean they're without merit or not worth discussing. As adults we should be open and respectful enough to listen to things we don't agree with and make up our own minds. Instead both sides throw a tantrum every time they hear something that they don't like. If we could just talk to each other and listen we wouldn't have most of the issues that plagued us in 2020.

It might be cool to tease a Kill Count for it every once in a while in other Kill Counts so we get unbelievably hyped up for it. Society isn't a particularly obscure movie (if you're into the horror genre). As someone said, James has referred to it on quite a few occasions, including this very review. I agree though, it would be a good movie to feature on Dead Meat, even (mild spoiler)...

That was the most horrible movie ever, I barely remembered any character other than the banana splits.
Seriously? I thought the movie was pretty awesome, for a horror movie. I thought ALL the characters were pretty fleshed-out and interesting, the atmosphere was strong, the acting was good, and story was fun...it was just a really good horror movie. I don't get why people are so against it.

I wholeheartedly agree about discussing gender in film. I've been doing a module on representation in my film production degree and its fascinating. I'm really enjoying the discussion and it does open your eyes to how films are made.
I've been reading Horror Noire by Robin Means Coleman and it's incredible, definitely worth a read if you're interested in the representation of black people in horror films, the history of it and how it has changed throughout the years. They also turned it into a documentary on Shudder and its so good, great guest stars like Tony Todd, Keith David, Jordan Peele and so many more, and it addresses a big question I've had with the book since the book released in 2011, before Get Out, and I was very interested in hearing what Coleman had to say about more recent horror.
