I don't know what Yuzna's intention with this movie was, but as someone who does have psychosis, this movie is extremely accurate to what it feels like. I have literally used it in therapy to get my therapist to understand what space I was in.

You know, I never thought I’d ever artistically identify with anybody named "Screaming Mad George" but I have to say, I completely understood what he meant when he said "I felt like painting was too limiting for what I wanted to express,". I can't say we have similar taste in art styles or preferences, mine is more 2d animation and visual storytelling. The more I got into drawing and painting, the more static and limited I felt my work was just on paper or canvas because in my head I see it in 3 dimensions, I see it in motion, I see colors and movement and expressions and scenes with context to explore. Im from a podunk rural Iowa farming town, so I was very lucky to get my hands on a digital drawing tablet, I had to teach myself everything cause nobody else I knew had any clue about it, so it took a while. But it's so interesting to hear somebody else sum up such an abstract feeling I'd felt for so long, so succinctly! Kindred spirits man, right on!
I highly recommend going to art school for animation if you can. It's very much worth it. Just some advice as a fellow animator

I love this movie for how it subverts the gratuitous nudity and sex present in most horror films of the time. There's a ton of nudity, sure, but pretty much every nude scene is deeply uncomfortable in some way for both Bill and the viewer. It's great.

Society is one of the most unique and delightfully disturbing excursions into the realm of body horror, especially considering it was done through the initial guise of a 1980s teen flick.
I'm very happy James did a Kill Count for it and just about all the films Bryan Yuzna had a hand in, which also perfectly showcased the work of Screaming Mad George. It's sad to see how Yuzna was so hard on himself after Society was originally tossed aside and I hope he's come to realize his films have become a special part of horror history. Not just Society, but some of the other wonderful fright flicks he turned out before and after it.

...I have seen people get their heads blown off, get dragged into a pit of darkness by some blob creature, got axed a question, have seen them get eaten by zombies, been electrocuted to death, seen a naked zombie, seen people scarred with a cross-shaped face rash violate others, and others get torn apart by demons...but the "shunting" has just proven to be one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a piece of horror media and considering what I've seen, THAT'S SAYING A LOT!

I cannot believe I’ve seen this film twice 😭 The weird dialogue has the same effect as when a film uses odd color grading or slightly off angles - it makes you unsettled from the get-go.

The comic sequel, Society: Party Animal, reveals that Bill reverse-shunted Ferguson because unbeknownst to everyone, he was half-Society; his mother was Clarissa's mother (which yes, makes them half-siblings, but inc3st is of no concern to either of them, because they remain together). Bill manages to trick Society by infecting himself with a deadly disease, then merges with them all in a big flesh ball before expelling the disease into them and separating from them. The disease then kills off Society while he and Clarissa escape.

i find it interesting how james compares the shunting scene to being in a war and then follows it up with how they all had a good time shooting it because whenever my cousin and his friends tell me about their experiences in iraq they make it seem like they were at summer camp even tho the shit they describe to me seems like a horror movie on its own
