Continue to study the Buddha's teaching and do vipassana meditation. Cultivate the ten parami and develop the attitude of letting go. Understand the law of kamma. Keep going and you will find the answer. Understand that there is no ultimate happiness (satisfaction) in the world. The three characteristics of existence are anicca, anatta and dukkha.

As I watched I was thinking/feeling this is heaven on earth and then I thought of Jesus and how he taught the keys to the kingdom are within each of us. And then I had an epiphany: This man is actually living Christ Consciousness! This peace, this concern for others, this simplicity, this detactment from material things...isn't that how Jesus lived? No, he doesn't worship Jesus. He doesn't call himself a Christian. But, IMHO, he goes beyond that, and he lives very much as Jesus did. Amazing!

@brentonius12 in this video he has spoken very vaguely on cyclic existense(samsara) to what he refers is the cycle of suffering from cause and effect. you experience something negative, react negatively and cause the cycle to continue. this also is very vague, this is simply because the lessons are not easy to explain so briefly. there is much wisdom overlooked at first but with time and familiarization it becomes clear.

In the Korean monastic tradition usually they say that 90 percent of monks return to laylife within 5 years. My experience is that for young and intelligent monks who appear in documentaries as young monks this rate is even higher.
There is nothing wrong with returning to laylife. But mistaking Buddhism for some idealized picture can be misleading. Buddhism can be viewed as something you can actually use and put into practice regardless of our personal situation.
The venerable monk mentiones and shows the Chinese sutra collection.
Do western Thetavada monks study Chinese characters to the extent they could understand them? That is very unlikely. In most of similar documentaries there is very little mentioned about the teachings of the Buddha. Young monks cannot have sufficient experience to be able to provide truly useful information. It can be interesting and entertaining but my view is that it should be only taken as such. It is wonderful that there is such a monastery in Austrslia. I wish everyone involved good practice and great determination for maintaining that blessed place. Thank you

The spiritual life is for the purifying, liberating & enlightening of consciousness.
Naturally, when the body dies, consciousness will 'go out' then.
But, before we die, it is essential to find liberation. This is the purpose of the spiritual life as advised by the Buddha, namely, 'the unshakeable freedom of mind'.
Nirvana is freedom of mind. It is not freedom from mind.

First off- i loved the video. But just because you go live in a Buddhist monastery doesn't mean you rid yourself of the burdens of food cost, healthcare cost, shelter/heat/water. So how are monetary's like this funded. Who bought the computer he was working on in the office. For most of us the challenge is to live in this peaceful frame of mind while navigating the challenges of modern life.

If you are interested in Nepal, than Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Nepal offers courses to learn Buddhism in English or have a look at Kopan Monestry...these two location are nearby. you can go Nepal and study buddhism for 3 months and be a monk during that period. You don't have to a monk, all your life. You can even choose to study Buddhism till university level. Monk means poverty, you can't accept money, you eat what you get, you don't pray all the time, you need to work as well.wish you luck

First learn to deal with the city. Face it; observe it. THEN you'll be a good monk. If you just run to the forest because you're sick of the city and other people, that doesn't solve anything. I used to think like that too. But in the final analysis, it's only aversion, not well-founded practice. So, first know the city, then go ordain. Sure, you can go on retreats, but don't make the final move out of mere caprice and chasing after so-called "peace". You won't find any such thing.

Every religion does not teach the same thing at all since the core believe of each religion are not the same. For example buddhist doesn't relink with any gods but others do. Buddhist meditation method is unique and from the teaching of the Buddha himself. Anyone can verify this fact by practicing buddhist meditation himself. You don't need guess work.
