I was in the delivery room in Madison Wisconsin, Daughter #1 born on the Am of the 7th....I think I remember every Dad looking up to watch the replay again and again....
Thanks for posting this. Al Michales’ reaction is great. I was at the game and didn’t hear his reaction until it was posted online. Almost everyone thought the play was dead, but a few of us noticed the there was no ref whistle, so it was probably still alive.
Al Michaels: ...incomplete. We're getting, he made the catch at the 15, what are they going to rule, that he caught it?! Touchdown!...HE DID WHAT?! Joe Buck (if he was announcing): Incomplete. No, caught. Touchdown Packers. that's why Al Michaels is a great announcer.
Lol I was bored and this play randomly popped in my head so I decided to watch it again. I was 12 when it happened and Rember being stunned at the time. Was an even greater play seeing it when it happened.
Still remember staying up late with my dad watching this game when I was like 13 and couldn't believe it. You know its a good play when 10+ years later you remember the exact memory of what you were doing when it happened.
Same. I was 12 and I still remember we first groaned at the apparent drop, then we saw Freeman get up and run in and we were both cheering and in disbelief that he caught the ball. The shot of the ref laughing at the play was what I remembered the most about that
Is it just me (or my headphones), or does anyone else hear the woman in the background (1:42) who sounds like she's being eaten alive by a million fire ants!?
It would be fun to be friends with Antonio Freeman in private life. If only because it'd be a fun game to try to see how often you could sneak "you did what" or "he did what" into day-to-day conversation without him noticing.
I was at work and we listened to it on the radio and the whole building (which was a big warehouse) erupted in cheers when this happened. I'll never forget that.
Best catch ever. You know the people saying Beckhams is better because it was skill, just proves the point of why it wasn't better. Now if they didn't show OB in pregame or at practice making that same catch minus falling backwards of course, that'd be different, he practices those kind of catches, you can't practice what Freeman did, the awareness and concentration to grab it inches from the turf, after its almost picked off. Then, the wherewithal to get up, put a move on the defender trailing the play, and scoot into the end zone
so because he practices catching the ball, anytime he makes an unbelievable play it's somehow less of a catch? No, you can't practice what Freeman did, because it was luck. Other than being aware enough to reach his arms out and grab a ball dangling in mid air, hardly any skill. OB's was nothing but skill. These two plays aren't even comparable.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a huge Packer fan and I remember this game like it was yesterday. I was 19 years old in Navy "A" school in Pensacola, FL and I was the only one at the "E" club watching this game. An old Chief from Minnesota came in and started watching with me. When Freeman crossed the goal line, I looked over and the face the Chief had is something ill never forget. Great Packer moment.
I remember watching this game a few days after my birthday after getting out of foot surgery. Nurses thought something was wrong because i was screaming, but I was just really excited about the catch. I miss the old packers and the gunslinger
I remember this so vividly. I was a junior in high school watching the game in my room. It was pretty late when the game went to overtime so my family was sleeping. I remember as I watched this I was absolutely freaking out and shouting and I woke everyone in the house up. Every time I see this play I can’t believe it!
This one is one of the greats, but my favorite Al Michaels call was actually in a preseason game. The Broncos had just put their 3rd and 4th string in on offence. Al Michaels: "And this is the point where they put guys out there so they can try and impress other teams" *Broncos QB proceeds to throw an interception* Al Michaels: "And that will impress no one..."
lmao i love that call. over a decade later and i still do it everytime i see a crazy play. thanks for uploading this. going to download it before the powers that be remove it
I remember watching this as a young kid, die hard vikings fan all my life, but this was one of those Vikings moments that made me realize what being a Vikings fan my whole life might be like...
This is the best play I've ever seen live with my own two eyes. (The Beast Mode run by Lynch against the Saints is a very close 2nd) I don't like the Packers at all, especially back when Favre was QB, but this catch is nothing short of fucking amazing. I remember staring at my TV after this play in pure wonder and unbelief.......
I remember this like it was yesterday. I’m a Viking fan and I remember shaking my head in disbelief and disgust but I look at it now and think “wow, that was an amazing catch” even if it was against my team, it’s fun to watch.
Damn Al Michaels is at least a top 3 all-time announcer. He adds enough emotion to make it entertaining and memorable but doesn't scream like Gus Johnson and ruin the entire moment
Brian Dawkins I love commentators with emotions, but Gus Johnson's constant screaming and shouting gets annoying. It's over-the-top, but I guess it's all subjective
+86SuperRay - Or sometimes it's unintentionally hilarious, like Joe Starkey (another all-time great broadcaster). I can remember him shrieking "IT'S INTERCEPTED! IT'S INTERCEPTED!" so many times LOL.
It was a Gold package game. I was there. The Packers were heading towards the hallowed South End Zone during this play. It was drizzling on and off during the game and the rain really came down during OT. We were all soaked, but it was glorious! FYI, I delayed surgery to see this game. My test results prompted the doctor to call me on Friday for surgery on Monday, but I said I couldn't miss this game! Had surgery on Thursday instead & lived to tell this tale. Won't ever forget this game.
It can also be said that Antonio Freeman was open to assistance from one of the most unlikely sources, and accepted it gracefully. There is more than one life lesson here. What a catch!
"Here's the snap. Farve, drops back, looks deep, he's got Freeman... and it's incomplete. So now the Pa- or, wait, no, the play wasn't ruled dead, Freeman's still going! That's gonna be a walk-off touchdown! Absolute insanity at Lambeau! The play was never ruled dead, and... How on earth was Antonio Freeman able to make that catch?!? That is unbelievable!!"
Remember that play very well, I was bored that night and decided to watch my first Monday football game ! That night I started to love football and became a Packers fan !
I remember being like 12-13 my brother 15, my team was GB Packs his was MIN, that was one of the great moments ahah, Favre vs Culpepper.. what a great era
Sometimes, there are truly perfect moments of sound from one source syncing up with video from another source, including 0:15 between Freeman riding up and Al Michaels going "He did WHAT?!"
I was at the game. We had started to leave at the end of the 4th, but the vikings missed a game winning field goal with practically no time on the clock. Freeman scored right in front of us.
absolutely love the way Al Michaels calls games like this seriously he is an absolutely awesome broadcaster especially when he reacts to play like this!!!
I was at this game - it happened at the other end of the field - couldn't see it when it happened, too far away, but when they showed the replay on the big screen the place went nuts. I love it when we beat the Vikings.
I was in basic training (Army) during this game. I remember the Drill watching it as we were going to bed for lights out. I learned about the result at 4am the next day. Always wished I could've watched it live....
Dick Hantak is the ref in this game - he was also the ref in the famous Sir Purr punt return game between Pittsburgh and Carolina in 1996; it was hilarious seeing Hantak talking to the mascot.
Everyone sharing their memory of where they were even though this happened almost 15 years ago, just tells you all you need to know. My memory was taking a dump at a waffle house in Florida and heard a loud roar outside the bathroom. I thought the place was being robbed.
One of my college roommates had just finished saying his fantasy football team was nationally ranked and, with this win, was going to be shown on the ESPN FF rankings... ...the only thing that could beat him now would be a Favre to Freeman touchdown.
I’m a Steelers fan so this is completely unbiased ... this is the greatest catch of all time , in OT !! 2nd imo is the Randy Moss catch & lateral to Moe Williams ... UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Kind of the norm seeing the Vikes blow another lead like this. It is actually nice to see the Pack choke as they did in the NFC championship this year. Packer fans do not handle it well, however. Not to mention, go back and look and some of Cris Carters catches during his career - I'm sure Carter had some spectacular catches as well. #GoBackHome!
I remember it, very memorable, something like Joe Theismanns broken leg, Bo Jackson's 221 yards on Monday night, or when Don Bebe ran down Leon Lett and poked the football out of his arms at the one yard line.
As a Viking fan I immediately though of this play after the Super Bowl catch. Fortunate for the Patriots they didn't come out on the losing end like my team did, lol
Al Michaels..."He did what?" Another classic line by one of the greatest!
"do you believe in miracles.....YES!" He really is a legend
Agreed 💯
Almost as classic as “you’re not gonna win with Aaron Rodgers” by Chris Collinsworth 🔥
Best in the business 👌
@@johnharringtonjr4048 Agreed 💯😊
"He did WHAT?!" is probably the best reaction to any catch ever at any level of football.
I'll never forget this play...INCREDIBLE! My Grandfather was a Packer fan. My Dad was and is a Packer fan. And I have always been a Packer fan.
Antonio Freeman is my cousin
@@ghostyontop1😂😂😂
Antonio Freeman was a great receiver and should always be remembered by true fans.
I was 12, and I still remember me and my family going from disappointment, to confusion, to pure elation. I'll never forget this.
One of the best announcer moments ever. The genuine shock and awe in his voice is perfect.
@Bourg Productions At least Joe Buck sounding so nonchalant makes it funnier
Really makes you feel like you’re right alongside him. Everyone was just as stunned seeing this for the first time
Probably the best catch I’ve ever seen. Truly incredible.
That look by the ref always gets me. "Well... would you look at that."
30 years of madden and you STILL can't replicate anything close to this sort of catch and suspense.
I was in the delivery room in Madison Wisconsin, Daughter #1 born on the Am of the 7th....I think I remember every Dad looking up to watch the replay again and again....

that's why Al Michaels is a great announcer.
Joe Buck isn't THAT bad. I'll take him over Thom Brennaman.
Damon Piaquadio I'll take both of them over Cheryl Miller. Oops, wrong sport. Sorry.
I would take a stutterer that is exciting over the fluent yet utterly bland and boring Joe Buck.
Joe Buck would've said that there were no flags.
Bryant Gumbel is the absolute worst!!
2:30 in the morning watching this game as a Packer fan back in Germany -- in high school at the time.
This is indeed the best catch of all time.
NFL was shown in Germany?
@@mike04574 there's actually a relatively big audience for American football in Germany
Lol I was bored and this play randomly popped in my head so I decided to watch it again. I was 12 when it happened and Rember being stunned at the time. Was an even greater play seeing it when it happened.
Antonio Freeman was one heck of a great receiver, and I remember this play to this day. Made a Packer fan in me ecstatic.
0:16 HE DID WHAT?!
John Wagner Someone in the background said "He did so" after Al Michaels said that.
When I look back and remember what made me love football ever since I was a kid, this play is one of the first things that comes to mind
Still remember staying up late with my dad watching this game when I was like 13 and couldn't believe it. You know its a good play when 10+ years later you remember the exact memory of what you were doing when it happened.

Props to the refs for not blowing the whistle. One of the best plays ever!
The greatest catch I have ever seen hands down!
Bar none.
kearse's catch in superbowl 49 comes close. not as great but close. this is still better.
kbw1970
Manning to Tyree
lupinvash3 That was a fluke
kbw1970 and this wasn't a fluke?
Best catch ever. You know the people saying Beckhams is better because it was skill, just proves the point of why it wasn't better. Beckham's was impressive because it wasn't luck.
Why can't they both be great? Why are you arguing which one is better?
agreed. shit. i made an odb catch when i played football in high school 😂 i tryed this 1,000,000 times amd failed everytime lmfao

No denying that that is one of the greatest plays in all of MNF history, especially coming from a fellow Packers fan!

And they say old people can’t see good, he knew that shit was golden the entire time that’s why he didn’t blow it dead

Best part of the whole thing is the ref shrugging and grinning, KNOWING he made the right call and it was a touchdown.
I was there for this game it the stadium just erupted!!! One of the best games ever!
I will never forget this moment. My 14th birthday was the day prior, and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present from my Packers.
their reaction is so priceless during the replay😂😂😂
The irony of this play being against the Vikings is delicious.

Maybe the greatest broadcasting moment in the NFL
Sometimes, every now and then, reality decides to take a break and truly let life become like a movie.
That moment at 0:49 when all 3 guys in the booth are shouting with delight at the same time is the best.
It's like being in the living room with your dad and uncles.
I was at the game. We had started to leave at the end of the 4th, but the vikings missed a game winning field goal with practically no time on the clock. Freeman scored right in front of us.
I did something very similar in gym class in the end zone, but no one else playing believed that it didn't hit the ground. :( Where's my video review
absolutely love the way Al Michaels calls games like this seriously he is an absolutely awesome broadcaster especially when he reacts to play like this!!!
