The craziness of that final play overshadowed what a blunder Mitch Berger made on that muffed field goal. He made a bad situation 10 times worse by not just throwing the ball away. It was first down and there were 8 seconds left, but he totally lost his bearings there.
It’s incredible how memorable the 2000 NFL season was for ABC and their MNF crew. This game. The Jumbo Elliott comeback. The Saints-Rams Wild Card Game (e.g. ‘Hakim drops the ball’). And this all happened in the same season of their failed experiment with Dennis Miller on board.
The Vikings let ‘em off the hook!! Watching the full highlights of these iconic plays always reveals more behind the scenes zaniness like the kicking blunder by the Vikings and the overturned completion on the Packs final drive in regulation.
Turning point to the Vikings after this game they weren't the same. Although they went to NFC Championship game they got destroyed like 41-0 to the Giants.
This was the first football game I actually remember watching as a kid. I would have been 5 years old. From Minnesota but that day I became a Packers fan.
The crazy thing is the ref not ruling it incomplete almost by instinct and holding his whistle is impressive. Mitch Berger just throwing it away would have erased all of this. I remember this game as a teenager I was going crazy!! I miss Favre so much!
If it isn't the best or greatest catch ever, it's gotta be your favorite. Classic awful huck from Favre but it slips through Dishman's hands so that it rolls PERFECTLY along Freeman's body so he's able to bring it in, combined with the amazing commentary of complete disbelief from not just the live play but also the replay where all three are going crazy watching the craziest play. Not to mention the fact it's a pivotal divisional game on MNF.
Going into this game Packers fans were screaming for Freeman to be released. After that catch not another word demanding his release was uttered by Packers fans. Also, the Vikings showed how classy they are by releasing Cris Dishman the next day. They scapegoted him to deflect from a team collapse.
I was in the stands with my wife in this monsoon, and when they lined up for the field goal we started to leave to get out of the rain. In the concourse, saw what happened and rushed back to our seats to see the legendary catch. What a night to be at Lambeau.
That has got to be one of the great ABC-era Monday Night games of all time. The Pack were literally riding on Antonio Freeman's back. Not even Dennis Miller's inane commentary spoiled it for me.
My dad went to bed early for this. I stayed up and watched it live. I shit my pants I couldn't believe what had happened 😂 I ran to my parents bedroom and told him what had happened.
Oh my God watching this video brings back so many memories. I remember that catch. I remember the game but seen it again it’s like oh my God that cat was just crazy.
“Dwayne Rudd couldn’t tell heads from tails!” Man between this and him taking off his helmet, Rudd REALLY didn’t get along very well with “heads” of any kind 😂
Back when they didn't have Thursday night football..did they even have Sunday night? Either way my dad and I always looked for to Monday night.. ARE U READ FOR SOME FOOTBALL? A MONDAY NIGHT PARTY!!!
Another great Al Michaels quote about that improbable catch from this game:
“You couldn’t film that scene in a movie and make it look that good!”
The craziness of that final play overshadowed what a blunder Mitch Berger made on that muffed field goal. He made a bad situation 10 times worse by not just throwing the ball away. It was first down and there were 8 seconds left, but he totally lost his bearings there.
Total lack of awareness
Insane to think NFL Throwback hasn't posted this before. A great game all the way through with a legendary finish
the spiral on Brett Favre's one-handed Haymaker underthrow to the end zone LOL..... bullet!!!!

Monday Night Miracle
Bucs-Rams had an epic shootout that season as well. Although that might have been Sunday night football.
@@jeremystoeckel9903No it was Monday night.
@@jeremystoeckel9903nah you’re right, that was a Monday Night game. Also the Bucs Vikings game on MNF in 2000 had an incredible ending too.
@@Eli-ss9gjBroncos and Rams had a wild shootout in Week 1.
Al Michaels with a legendary call at the end 17:36
Thank you 😂
Monday Night Football back in the day always brought something special. Vikings fans don't watch this video 😂.
F the Vikings 😂
@@kevinuchiha6830F the packers
They're both mediocre this season so what's the point in arguing

Got to stay up late on a school night to watch this one. Incredible game!
Daunte Culpepper was the closest thing the Vikings had to a consistent franchise QB after Tarkenton until Kirk Cousins.
It’s a shame his knee got shredded in ‘05. He was a star on the rise.
Duante Culpepper and Steve McNair were great to watch in that era
Brett Favre would like a word. Of course, he’s a “what could’ve been”
Your right he wasn't a super bowl or championship QB
Always forget Robert Smith how he strangely retired
0:07 - Crazy that Favre had already set the record for consecutive starts, and still continued the record for another 10 years!
Yeah that’s insane, and to think that Brady would own that record had it not been for his 2008 week 1 injury, and his 2016 suspension for DeflateGate
Al Michaels is the Greatest NFL Play-by-Commentator Ever
The Vikings let ‘em off the hook!! Watching the full highlights of these iconic plays always reveals more behind the scenes zaniness like the kicking blunder by the Vikings and the overturned completion on the Packs final drive in regulation.
17:40 One of Al Michaels’ great calls
19:12 GAME!
Robert Smith criminally underrated
some of Al Michael’s best work right here
My favorite quote: “No extra point, that bums me out…” 😂
It’s insane that NFL throwback hasn’t even posted this yet
But an incredible reaction by Al Michaels , quite literally “he did what” indeed
Turning point to the Vikings after this game they weren't the same. Although they went to NFC Championship game they got destroyed like 41-0 to the Giants.
Yea they got spanked badly. HAHAHA.
Most Viking fans completely forget they went to the NFCCG that season (and got embarrassed). I'm pretty sure they've blocked it from memory. 😂
Then the Giants got wrecked. NFC wasn't good that season
This was the first football game I actually remember watching as a kid. I would have been 5 years old. From Minnesota but that day I became a Packers fan.
Same
Minnesota born packer fan here too!
I was at this game and had a great angle to see that the ball never hit the ground. I was screaming my head off! Go! Go!
The crazy thing is the ref not ruling it incomplete almost by instinct and holding his whistle is impressive. Mitch Berger just throwing it away would have erased all of this. I remember this game as a teenager I was going crazy!! I miss Favre so much!

Vikings will always choke when it matters most
Look at that scoreboard tho, Vikes vs Pack.
Yeah that was cool.
Antonio Freeman's Game Winning Touchdown Catch Was Incredible
That ref at the end of the game 😂😂😂
Imagine if the Vikes had had a good defense during the Culpepper-Moss era. I truly think they would’ve won a Super Bowl.
CounterPoint: It’s the Vikings. They would’ve screwed that up
I think their best shot was 98, and even if they didn't choke in the NFC Championship I don't think they had what it takes against the Broncos then.
17:40 common moment of the NFL gods smiling on the Packers and shitting on the Vikings
17:35 is the play that gives this game its name
Going into this game Packers fans were screaming for Freeman to be released. After that catch not another word demanding his release was uttered by Packers fans.

17:55 "He did, What?!"
An al micheals classic

Say what you want: Favre was tons of fun to watch.
NFL scripts best top tier of all time endings...... nuff said!!!!!!
Berger messed up everything at the end of regulation. Wow

Great game
Dennis miller: no extra point huh?
Classic OT Division Rivalry Game

Moss greatest to ever do it 💯
Rice. Then Moss
It’s Jerry and then everybody else
Freeman was the best WR in that game at least 😅

One of the best rivalries in the NFL
That has got to be one of the great ABC-era Monday Night games of all time. The Pack were literally riding on Antonio Freeman's back.
Not even Dennis Miller's inane commentary spoiled it for me.
What a classic! I remember watching this when I was 14. Football was masculine then. Not so much, now.
Pooch punting instead of trying a 48 yard field goal for the lead is so gross.
My dad went to bed early for this. I stayed up and watched it live. I shit my pants I couldn't believe what had happened 😂 I ran to my parents bedroom and told him what had happened.
i was 21 still remember watching this live in my friends garage drunk and high as hell...classic
Nobody looks cooler throwing a football than Brett Favre
Unbelievable series to send the game to overtime even before that miracle catch by Freeman
classic!
Who thinks NFL throwback should make an Instagram account?
19:36 "No extra point though, that bums me out."
Man, I forgot how good Robert Smith was. Always found it funny the one year he finished without a nagging injury, he retires, lol!
Mitch Burger. Throw the ball away! This game cost us home filed. Smh
Oh my God watching this video brings back so many memories. I remember that catch. I remember the game but seen it again it’s like oh my God that cat was just crazy.
You know, I despise the goddamn Fudge Packers, but that sure was an amazing catch. I've always watched that play in awe.
Go pack go? Lmao
@NFL Throwback just like you created the 30 minute video of the 2007 Patriots could you please make a 30 minute video of 1998 Vikings
Imagine if Culpepper didn't throw 3 INTs 😆
Love this game!
I used to like the Vikings and I hated the Packers, so every time I would see that final play, I would get annoyed all over again 😒😭
I remember the complete confusion after that play. I was halfway out of my seat to turn off the set and go to bed
“Dwayne Rudd couldn’t tell heads from tails!”
Man between this and him taking off his helmet, Rudd REALLY didn’t get along very well with “heads” of any kind 😂
Only favre's second sweep of the vikings. He only beat them twice in 1 year, 5 times, in 16 years as a packer
Good one, the field goal holder blew the game for the Vikings.
look at the scoreboard display? vikes vs pack 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good memories was in 4th grade lmfao
I remember throwing my Playstation controller on the floor and breaking it. Still haven't recovered
He did WHAT!
Qb’s under center every play….. I miss these days.
Good memories! GO PACK GO! 💚💛
NEVER gets old! 🤣
Amen
You failed to show Culpepper’s TD run called back on a holding penalty. Forcing them to settle for a field goal on their opening drive. 👎🏻
Mitch Berger and Cris Dishman both had fairly long and productive careers, but they really botched things at the end of the game.
And here we are getting ready for Sunday night football . Packers vs the Vikings. Im hella scared how good Jefferson is gonna be. #gopackgo
No need brother, defense showed up for once. Now onto the Bears
No extra point though, that bums me out.
Dwayne Rudd doing something boneheaded and weird in a critical situation? Hope that doesn’t come up in 2 years!
Back when they didn't have Thursday night football..did they even have Sunday night? Either way my dad and I always looked for to Monday night.. ARE U READ FOR SOME FOOTBALL? A MONDAY NIGHT PARTY!!!
Fun game fun game guys.
Glad to see the Vikings suffer😂

Cool video
And to think this packers team was a mediocre 3-5 wow
Aw, dang it.
Some really weak PI calls against the Vikings. Some things never change.
The refs wanted the packers to win so bad lol. Always been that way
This was interesting..................
Always at the expense of the Vikings
Viking fan here. I was in the endzone at that game. Ridiculous luck.
