      Exactly. I actually went to 3 different Rolex store to ask for a Datejust. I never wanted to beg someone to buy something but I was super nice to the AD. Of course all of the ADs I talked to promised to contact me when the watch I want is available. Well, they never did after many months. I didn’t call them either. Why do I have to beg them to sell me a watch when I have money? That’s crazy.

    Rolex production is around 1 - 2 million watches a year. That idea that people have in their minds of a gentleman in switzerland in between the mountains making by hand your watch is so far from reality. This is mass production, by the millions just like any other fabric. Having to suplicate to be given the "privilage" of spending 20 thousand euros, hard earned money, is just ridiculous. I buy homage watches and I make a statement through that. I have right now the capacity to buy at retail a GMT Pepsi, a Rolex Submariner Date and a Day Date with the Daddy configuration (jubilee and flutted bezel) I CAN BUY IT NOW. But when I went there they would just wanted to sell me the crap or the presious metals, I cant buy the steel ones. So I am suppossed to spend a 100k before getting the "chance" the "privilage" to spend another 13 000 euros in another GMT Master II Pepsi ? FUCK NO.
    PD: I gotta say as a sales man what they have done as commercial strategy is nothing but magnificent, even better than their watches. They have manipulated everyone masterfully, really inteligent people manipulating very stupid people.

    Most of what he says is true in my experience. I've been with my AD for 2 years and just got my second Rolex from them, both watches I genuinely wanted. On my first visit they asked what I do for a living and noticed that I was wearing a nice watch (an old Omega Seamaster). They asked if I had a wife and whether she liked watches as well. They took my ID so they know where I live. I don't dress up when I visit but don't look like a tramp (jeans and a shirt is fine). IMO the most important things are to be genuinely interested in the watches (rather than their value) and to be friendly and relaxed. Talk about other things as well as watches. Common courtesy/politeness is enough. I genuinely enjoy my visits and get on really well with the Rolex Manager.

    I don't know if the luxury watches market work like that, but If rolex would sell more watches, it wouldn't reduce the grey market? Grey market would exist anyway, but the sense of "exclusivity" is useless if you can buy the same model innthe grey market...

      its gonna come to a head and crash at some point. Rolex makes 1.2M watches a year, making up something like 1/3 of the revenue of all swiss watches sold - those watches are getting sold somewhere. at this point I think grey dealers are sitting on way too much inventory at way too high prices but they are so over leveraged they cant afford a 10% loss on 75% of their inventory. Its gonna come hard when things just stop moving and a lot of grey dealers are gonna lose their shirts.

I was offered a white gold SkyDweller, a Bluesy, and a steel Deepsea on the spot. Almost pulled the trigger on the Deepsea. Maybe they are finally starting to lighten up?

    I'd find it easy to buy a Rolex from an AD. The reason for this is I have very narrow tastes in watches. I don't like diver's watches or anything with an engraved or rotating bezel, GMTs, chronographs, anything two tone or made of precious metals and don't like bling - pretty much every Rolex that re-sells at a premium is a watch I have no interest in and wouldn't ever wear.. .
    It makes it easy because the only Rolex watches I'd consider wearing are the Air King and the Oyster in plain SS and the ADs know I won't be handing it to a flipper because there's no money to be made in reselling either model. There isn't a waiting list for them either, because the ADs can't make extra profit selling them through the back door so there is no artificial shortage,
    I'm still looking at watches and may decide on Air King, but if an AD tries any 'are you a suitable customer for Rolex' or suggests I register on a waiting list I'll burst out laughing and walk out.

    Sod Begging an AD shop worker who earns a nice living I'm sure, but has no idea who I am or what I earn or what I do. In the last year I have bought a blue steel skydweller on jubilee for myself, a blue 41mm OP for one of my boys and a black 41mm OP for my other boy. I had a more pleasureable experience buying those on the grey market then from an AD (who I have been to and make me feel like I'm unworthy of their time) - Their loss not mine.

    The look on the face of a watch dealer is priceless, when you pay for your Rolex in full on a basic credit card and it goes through. (Yes, you can boost up your credit limit by depositing funds to the credit card beforehand.)

    • @StreetPreacherr
      @StreetPreacherr 7 месяцев назад

      Is that unusual? My MasterCard limit was just automatically increased incrementally to $25K over the years, and I never actually requested an increase. I figured it was just because I used the card fairly often, but never carried a balance, so they were probably hoping I'd eventually 'splurge' on something that I'd have to start paying interest on... I eventually had to request that they STOP automatically increasing the limit, because 'Credit Checks' actually consider your Income v.s. the POTENTIAL DEBT that you could accrue... So for instance, having a $50K limit can actually be 'detrimental', because it means that at any time you could immediately rack up $50K in debt and not pay it back.
      Debt is just crazy when you look into it. It's actually just a COMMODITY, that companies buy and sell just like any other 'investment'! lol Like if you were a 'debt collecting' business, you could probably actually 'purchase' your own debt for significantly less than the 'value'! Because these companies will 'BUY' your debt for 50% of the total amount, and then try to collect the full 100% from you to make their profit!
      Bring back the GOLD STANDARD!!! lol

    How to buy a Panda Daytona today! Here is a hack for you guys. Walk into any AD, ask to see an exhibition model Daytona and then "accidently" drop it. Make sure the sapphire crystal is broken. They will make you pay for it at retail price for breaking the Daytona. You got yourself a Daytona! send it for a full service and it'll come back brand new.

    Bro, if they bring the watch over and the transaction goes through they get their money right away. What do they care how much you earn or what you look like lol. They want to milk more business out of you, simple. So if you’re a big spender, they’ll sell to you. I went to get a JLC and asked for a discount, the sales rep said “we cant give you a discount but we’ll sell you a rolex if you buy the JLC” . I was like “I need one watch” and wished them a nice day

  • @Durethia
    @Durethia 4 дня назад

    It doesn't make sense. If ADs were so concerned about reselling, they shouldn't be stoking the second-hand market via difficult customer experiences. The second-hand market is purely driven by demand and artificial-short-supply. But perhaps this is the point. Rolex extracts a lot of money from very wealthy people who stock pile unhealthy numbers of unworn and pristine Rolexes in a vault somewhere. When these gluttonous collectors start dumping their loot in the next couple of decades, Rolex will go the way of the Beanie Babies, and we'll start seeing many Stainless Steel samples cluttering the shelves of Goodwill and general thrift stores.

    Ces marques réussissent à faire croire que c'est un privilège pour l'acheteur de leur acheter un objet dont le bénéfice net pour l'entreprise est entre 800 et 1000 % !!! Quant à l'AD il prend modestement entre 30 et 40% !
    C'est complètement fou...
    Et ça marche ! Ces marques font des prodiges en matière de communication permettant par la suite de vendre du rêve autour de leur produits.
    Ca marche pour Rolex tout comme Louis Vuitton, Ferrari ou Château Lafite.
