“If you do nothing you’re gonna watch your biggest stars leave for almost nothing or fade into the twilight of their careers.” Angels: who’s talking about me
This Jays team is the least fun team to root for for that I can remember. Just zero good vibes. What the hell happened to the atmosphere from 3 years ago, when they were having fun and easy to root for? Everyone on the roster seems miserable now.
I have been a fan of the Jays since 1989. I haven't hated a group of players , coaches and from office like this until now. Atkins is #1 on the list. People should stop going to watch this garbage.
@Phoenix114 yea, that's why I actively cheer against the blue jays. I live in canada and just want to watch other star players play. That's mainly why I watch it to see other teams.
It's so difficult, but given the division they're in, I would tear it down and start with a new core of prospects. If they really tore it down to the studs and got as much as they could, I would think their rebuild would only take 2-3 seasons
This current version of the Blue Jays is a competitive team but thats about it. Really hard to be a consistent threat when your two best players are inconsistent, your ace pitcher is streaky and your whole team is streaky. I say they trade everyone and start fresh. How would this version of the team make the push to be a World Series contender anyway?
In fairness to Vladdy, he seems to have turned it around. In the past month, he's slashing ..386/.465/.511 He's still looking for his power stroke, but that's a launch angle issue. He's hitting the ball, and hitting it hard again. Now it just needs some air, and we're really in business.. Or he could start hitting it right into the ground again.. Baseball is weird.
The Jays really need to blow it up and retool and it all has to start with the guys on top. I don't trust the current front office to be able to turn this ship around. Gausman, Bichette, Kikuchi, Jansen, Berrios, and Yimi could all fetch some pretty pieces, but I have no faith in the front office to capitalise on that The Jays have Clement, Jiminez, Barger, Martinez, Schnieder, and Palmegreni, who all occupy the infield, so trading Bichette makes sense as he's said he wants to test free agency. Personally, I'd like to see Vladdy stay. If he starts elevating and pulling the ball, he's one of the best hitters in the game. Unlike Bichette, he stated that he loves the Jays and would like to stay. The outfield is a complete crapshoot. Outside of Varsho, they really don't have anything valuable in the system. I don't think any team would want to risk trading for Springer, so he can stay in right. Schnieder could probably start in left. There's not much to say about it. Other than that, I personally don't think the Varsho trade was bad. They traded for a platinum glove level outfielder who has pop. I don't blame him for last year. I think it's mostly on the Jays staff as everyone else sucks and the few hitters that don't have said they don't listen to them. Outside of Tiedemann, the pitching depth is ugly. Yariel is a question mark, Pearson is cooked, and I personally can't name a single pitching prospect above AA other than Tiedemann and the guy they got for Espi. I really don't think anything is going to change. No one's getting fired outside of Schnieder and maybe some coaching staff. They're going to promote Mattingly to manager and make some dumbass moves and deal the only legitimate prospects in the org. I miss the 21 team so bad. It felt like that team could overcome anything. If only the front office was aggressive with acquiring some legitimate bullpen arm that year. Instead, they stuck with Chatwood, Dolis, Hand, and all the other bums in that bullpen. That team was the best shot the Jays had, and they didn't even make the playoffs.
The rebuild failed. The rational thing would be to cut losses and restart…but they wouldn’t. It’s only going to become much worse from here, I’m afraid.
The funniest part about this Blue Jays team is that they broke the seemingly unbreakable playoff win draughts of both Minnesota and Seattle 💀swept both times in embarrassing fashion.
I mean, to be fair the playoff drought of the Mariners was not a win drought. The could have and should have made the world series in their previous playoff iteration. A playoff win drought implies making it and getting immediately kicked out. Mariners just didn't make it for over 20 years.
I've been a Jays fan since 2006 and this is the saddest state I've ever seen this team in, from so much potential a few seasons ago with a fun, hard hitting roster to just this pit of doldrums where it feels like scoring more than 5 runs in a game is a major accomplishment. Is it the analytics nerds possessing too much sway with how the team operates? Is it incompetent management on the field (pulling Berrios still makes me upset)? Is it the players losing their passion with too many energy guys traded away for the sake of run prevention? I have absolutely no faith in this front office to either go all in or correctly conduct a rebuild, but hey, the Rogers Centre renovations went off without a hitch, and that's what really counts, right? It's a difficult time to be a fan of this team. Blowing that 8-1 lead to Seattle really broke this team, huh.
...and the pitching coach. The pitchers can't hold a lead or stop the bleeding. It's frustrating to watch. The Jays scored 11 runs the other day and bullpen gave up 5 runs in the last two innings to lose it.
Good video, I completely disagree on your take on Gausman though. He got injured and in training camp and had horrendous start to the the season with a couple of brutal outings. Since than (other than one horrible outing against Minny) he has been solid. Usually gets a quality start and generally keeps his opponents to one run in 5-7 innings
Gausmans the only one I’m not worried about. He barely got any spring training and really is still working back from an arm injury. He’ll be fine by the end of June his last couple starts really show he’s getting back to form
I love the Jays. Been a fan since Olerud. Love watching them live when I can. They are certainly having issues right now, and I blame Atkins. He had the chance to add some phenomenal players to the roster but he didn't. Their RISP is dismal. The batters don't seem to have good at bats at the same time. When the opposing team's pitcher is better than the Jays, its a low scoring ( if any score) to say the least. Each player is talented, but not all at once. I do love their passion. If only that was enough to get more than 2 wins in a row. I will continue to root for them.
had you pop into recommended, its so hard finding good baseball vids like these outside of the main few guys. great content man, keep up the good work.
I highly doubt this Jays team will blow it up. Rogers just commited like 350m for renovations. Jays fans aren't like Leaf fans. People won't go if the team is bad. I want them to blow it up, I just don't see it happening.
the issue has been their inability to develop pitching from within. this has made them spend a ton on the rotation and leaving little behind for the lineup. realistically yes vlad and bo have underpeformed but the lack of support cast just makes it worse. the springer signing was always going to be an albatross. currently all the money has gone to the pitching staff and what this team needs is some big money bats that they don't want to pay for. a retool with a new gm is needed, bo is going to walk regardless because he wants a trea turner/xander bogarts type of deal. which i don't think makes sense unless he moves to 2nd and keeps his unreal bat to ball instincts.
So many bad teams just seem unable to develop talent and cannot find and scout for talent either, I’ve noticed. Look at the team like the Yankees. Their bullpen is good every single year, literally since as far as I can remember, even without signing a ton of big arms. They saw things in guys like Holmes and many others and turned them into nasty efficient relievers. They’re without Cole and still the starting pitching is better than almost everyone. They have a great pitching coach for sure I know, but there’s obviously a lot of other people behind the scenes. Then there’s guys who make slight adjustments in their hitting which makes big changes. There’s only so much raw talent can do for you, many players have great, unique abilities that need to be found and developed. It’s not sustainable to rely on scouting and drafting the top picks.
This years Jays need consistency and 2 or 3 arms in the bullpen. I don't have stats in front of me but I've seen too many games this season (and previous too) where the bullpen can't hold a late inning lead OR you watch the bats scratch away to to comeback just have the bullpen give up a couple of runs in the next half inning. Swanson hasn't been good. Cabrera hasn't been good. Romano hasn't been good. We need arms and the bats to be more consistent.
That epic choke against Seattle all but crushed this team's spirit. Management should have done something drastic to change the team's tone like what Masai did for the Raptors in the NBA after LeBron swept them in the playoffs. You don't suffer that crushing defeat without making a massive deal.
cant see this Jays team ever beating the Yanks or O's in a 7 game series. The yanks got a ton of guys in their walk years, and O's it's all dependent on whether they'll pay their guys, but if they do, they'll be a force in the American league for the rest of the 20's. And if the Yanks lock up Soto? Think the Jays oughta tear it all down and rebuild long-term like the O's, just with more money
They just need to sell. Even if some of these guys were playing better they still wouldn’t be in the atmosphere as the Orioles and Yankees. They went for tip of the cap for the free agency aggression but it failed. Tear it down and start over.
I would absolutely blow this team up sooner than later. Maybe wait for them to get hot and drive some value. Atkins has shown very little capability of putting together an actual contender and it’s not like we’re expecting any superstars out of the farm system. I maybe start with Jansen or Schneider who have the highest trade value right now, or Yimi Garcia and Trevor Richards for pitching depth.
They were a much more fun team I’ll give you that. But at the end of the day they were not good enough to win anything. I much prefer the 15-16 teams. But yeah they need to change their vibe because this ain’t working.
Bo’s lack of pitch recognition and absurd BABIP have finally led to their inevitable result. Vladdy has never and never will live up to the hype. There’s multiple reasons for this, but most come down to the fact that he’s a fat DH in his early 20s. Springer was a signing that was supposed to help jump the Jays into contention, accepting that he’d decline horribly by the second half of his contract. Bassitt and Berrios are overpaid and will only become more overpaid as they age. Because the Jays can’t develop pitching they’re only going to continue to overpay for mid rotation types. But the biggest problem is that the rebuild failed. Of all those hitting prospects that were supposed to be the core the only two to pan out are the flawed Vladdy and Bichette. You cannot build a team around two homegrown players, and these two aren’t exactly Rutschman and Henderson.
Jays had one of the best starting pitching rotations in baseball last year. Sad they can't knock any runs in. I knew after last year when the ownership decided to "stay the course" this year would be horrible. Building off Vladdy and Bo wasn't a bad idea, but the coaches and management needed to go. The Jays organization is an old boys club where ownership and management are way too close for comfort.
Should have kept Alex Anthopoulos since he left its going downhill. Also trading Moreno and Gurriel Jr for Varsho?!? What?! Whoever decided that should be fired immediately. And dont even mention Teoscar Hernandez. If Hernandez, Gurriel Jr and Moreno were in this lineup it woulda been one of the most feared in the league.
You could argue that the AL Central is the toughest division in baseball. Only division where three different teams have an eight-game winning streak or longer
Isn't this the same franchise that allowed the analytics nerds to overrule the manager in the middle of a playoff game? They're reaping what they've sown.
I think you take the whole team and sit them down. Give them the "we have this many days till the deadline, if you guys wanna win and take a shot at this, you have that many days to convince me." See where it goes and evaluate how the guys react. Thats how you find your ballers.
Keep Guerrero and probably Bichette. Try to build the rest around them from the ground up. They could realistically build up their farm and keep their core, then be competitive in a couple years
I think the Jays starting pitchers are doing their part...mostly. Have there been some inconsistencies? Yep but the starting pitchers aren't getting help in the later innings. They go 6 or 7 innings, throw 90 to 100 pitches, give up a couple of hits in the 8th inning and then the bullpen comes in to let those runs score and and then some more. Our closer, Romano has a 6.39 ERA, Swanson is 9.22, Mayza is 6.32, Mitch White, 5.4. The runners that are already on base when they come in don't count towards their ERA. This is completely their lack of ability to keep runners off base.
Good offense builds good offence. The Jays are so bad that picthers arent forced to give Vladdy pitches. Managemnt let Hernandez go and it did a lot of damage to the lineup and Hernandez has continued to be a productive hitter in MLB. Management of this team has been a disaster.
For roughly the last five seasons, we were told by the "experts" that the Jays are the favorites. The Jays are finally ready. The Jays are the most talented team. We are still waiting for any of the above to happen. They've been a disappointment. Or maybe they haven't been a disappointment, just overhyped.
Trade away their good players and get something for them. I dont mind watching a losing team of younger players and adding some pieces in a few years to compliment them.
If I was the Jays GM, I would sell! Obviously, it’s not working with these group of guys. I would see if I could get a big haul for Vlady to keep building the farm system. I would try to keep Bo long term seeing if he would go through a retool being the franchise player. If not, I would sell him high too. I would see what I could get for Bassett, & my older guys.
I would go complete rebuild, coaching staff included. I don’t have faith in this pitching staff to develop players. No pop, pitching is streaky, pretty much everything is bad. With all the contracts that are expiring, I would see what can get, this isn’t a playoff team.
Vladdy, Springer, Kirk, Romano, Swanson, and Manoah can all go tbh. Should be able to get a few elite prospects and build a team capable of competing over 2 or 3 years from now. This Jays team can make the playoffs over the past couple of years, but never had a chance of winning the World Series.
I don’t want Ross Atkins or Mark Shapiro to have a job if they blow it up I already don’t want them running this franchise any further into the dirt they just don’t know what they are doing and don’t deserve the decision making power
They let all their free agents go to try to sign Ohtani. Ohtani was never coming to Toronto. Now they’ve got a bunch of young, cheap guys who aren’t stars, a bunch of ageing stars that are over paid, & a roster that just isn’t good. Personally, I thought it was smart to give up some of the hitting for pitching & defence, but they dropped the ball by not having any hitting. Which isn’t necessarily managements fault. Guerrero & Bichette were supposed to super stars & it’s possible they aren’t. Might be smarter to only keep one, or even trade both & rebuild entirely while the rest of the East are all having their moments. Jays aren’t close. Least not closer than everyone else in the division. Adding Ohtani wouldn’t have made this team World Series contenders. 🤷🏻
We gotta blow it up keep bo yeet gurerro jr, springer, mini bat catcher, bassit, trade romano to the o's. Get some young pictchers for GJ then get guys who can run and hit make this a small ball team.. with lights out rotation
I’d say over the course of a full season, not typically. Don’t have any stats to back it up off-hand, but IMO over the course of 162 (esp for a SP who has more innings and therefore more data than say a RP) that ERA and FIP will converge.
Ya GM's should be looking for new jobs if they set teams back years like Atkins and Shapiro have but somehow these clowns are still running the show. Get rid of these bums. This brand of ball is unwatchable. The used to be such a fun team to watch and were never out of a game.
I don't see the team making the wild card looking at the teams ahead of them, and you know the Astros are gonna be in it. So everything I'm seeing points to Toronto being sellers.
I’m a Phillies fan now. My fellow Canadian Rob Thompson knows how to manage a team. Schneider is a tool, as is Shapiro and all the other clowns in the front office.
The Jays are the Leafs of MLB, all the talent but can’t win in the playoffs. They have very good players but none are dogs same with the Leafs. Both need to blow up their teams and start over more the Jays.
If I’m the jays, I’m taking this season off. Trade all the pending free agents who are performing (Garcia, richards, kikuchi), and maybe another replaceable guy like varsho. Keep the core intact, get some young talent and depth to bolster them.
I think at this point even with bichette and Guerrero I think you got to blow it up I mean you're currently not even a 500 team I think it's time to add to the prospect pool and reset it
As a Canadian i can confirm, there are no jays fans, just bandwagoners who only somewhat care when they're winning and don't pay attention when they're not.
As a big time jays fan it’s not tht they aren’t good it’s just the team feels so depressing and there’s no energy there, it feels like everyone knows that they aren’t good enough to compete which is true
I think having Gausman is bouncing back nicely. Berios and Kikuchi are fine. Manoah seems to be turning it around but too early to tell. Bassitt is Bassitt. Having 3 of our 5 starters being able to eat up a lot of innings in good but they need to be comfortable with the bullpen that's coming in to replace them. If they're not comfortable, then they try to do it themselves and tire themselves out. The bullpen is our biggest problem, in my opinion.
Toronto big league sports in general is in despair mode right now I'd say At least we're getting a WNBA and women's soccer team soon! Elsewhere, it's so cooked 😭
Stop the bs analytics, just let them hit, Vladdy should put weight back on, he hit a ton when heavier, losing the weight screwed with his approach and swing and distance, too many management people involved, just let them hit the damn ball
34 years a Jays fan.
Never been so uninterested.
At least you've seen titles.

Rogers only wants his buddies to attend games now. Front office actually doesn't want everyday, working class fans to attend the games anymore.

We rushed our rebuild, would have rather had a team like the Orioles that spent years being dog shit only to emerge as real legit contenders.
Padres seem to be the opposite with tons of players locked up but not so much performing to the contract

Isn't this the same franchise that allowed the analytics nerds to overrule the manager in the middle of a playoff game? They're reaping what they've sown.
There like the 2016 or 2017 orioles rn
This is the same fanbase that thought Ohtani was serious about joining the bluejays. Lol. He would never have joined a team this sad
The Jays have too much raw talent to tear it down. You fill some of the gaps in this team and you have a championship contender.
I think you take the whole team and sit them down. Give them the "we have this many days till the deadline, if you guys wanna win and take a shot at this, you have that many days to convince me." See where it goes and evaluate how the guys react. Thats how you find your ballers.
I'm a middle aged man, and still chuckle at sneaky 69-nice.
The no hitter Ronel Blanco had against them early in the season broke their psyche I think. I don’t think it’s coming back
It’s ok they have the GOAT Davis Schneider
Fire analytics guy in the GM's char and his manager with him, hire a guy who will let Donnie manage the team properly and the team will be fine.
Feels like they either have some regression to the mean (in a good way) or end up big sellers
I agree, problem is you can’t get anything decent for struggling players. Ironically Jays need to get better to have a decent chance at a rebuild
At this point I have a better chance at winning the powerball than a Cardinals vs Blue Jays World Series 😂😂😂
“Pressure is something you put in tires.” -Alex Manure
I don’t want Ross Atkins or Mark Shapiro to have a job if they blow it up I already don’t want them running this franchise any further into the dirt they just don’t know what they are doing and don’t deserve the decision making power
I still can’t believe they sacked AA for Shapiro
As a born as raised Torontonian, I feel personally attacked.
Between this and the Kendrick/Drake thing, things aren't looking too good for the 6ix
Concerning Berrios: is outperforming FIP to that degree sustainable at all?
I’d say over the course of a full season, not typically. Don’t have any stats to back it up off-hand, but IMO over the course of 162 (esp for a SP who has more innings and therefore more data than say a RP) that ERA and FIP will converge.
.669 nice. instant sub lol
The Jays just swept the White Sox three straight to move closer to .500 so hold off pushing the panic button.
Ya GM's should be looking for new jobs if they set teams back years like Atkins and Shapiro have but somehow these clowns are still running the show. Get rid of these bums. This brand of ball is unwatchable. The used to be such a fun team to watch and were never out of a game.
when your big 3 players are playing worse then every other teams big 3 players and you are still in and around .500 it’s actually kinda impressive
They should start a podcast called Flabby and The Flamer.
New first base maybe short stop who no’s but new coaches that means matingly to
I will watch nontheless because Sportsnet
Keep it up man
I don't see the team making the wild card looking at the teams ahead of them, and you know the Astros are gonna be in it. So everything I'm seeing points to Toronto being sellers.
Idk if the Astros will tho
Hell yeah. Love to see the Blue Jays in a bad situation 😎
I’m a Phillies fan now. My fellow Canadian Rob Thompson knows how to manage a team. Schneider is a tool, as is Shapiro and all the other clowns in the front office.
keep them both and fire the batting coach. but... i wouldnt mind having him in philly.
but but the homerun jacket is back
Tear it down and keep vlad jr a hope for the best
The Jays are the Leafs of MLB, all the talent but can’t win in the playoffs. They have very good players but none are dogs same with the Leafs. Both need to blow up their teams and start over more the Jays.
IKF has been great so far
The Leafs of the MLB
If I’m the jays, I’m taking this season off. Trade all the pending free agents who are performing (Garcia, richards, kikuchi), and maybe another replaceable guy like varsho. Keep the core intact, get some young talent and depth to bolster them.
Dw when the Jays call up Joey Votto they'll win like 50 games in a row and crush the world series cuz he's a good old Canadian boy
I think at this point even with bichette and Guerrero I think you got to blow it up I mean you're currently not even a 500 team I think it's time to add to the prospect pool and reset it
I just hope that Guerrero jr doesn't get a big contract extension he does not deserve it, I will give him only 3 or 4 years and 5 million each year
Gotta burn it down. Knowing this front office though, they’ll pay Vladdy and Bo and continue to put mediocre talent around them
Honestly I’d blow up the roster and start a rebuild I would keep Bo and that’s about it
Bo to the Dodgers. I can see it. Betts when he comes back can go back to the OF. I see this happening.
As much as I like vladdy and bo as a jays fan I'd tear it down and start again this team isn't good enough
Vladdy would like real nice In royal Blue!! 🔵⚪️
Springer contract is terrible
They need to get rid of him imo
5:56 lmao. All these guys got blasted Sunday by the Tigers
As a Canadian i can confirm, there are no jays fans, just bandwagoners who only somewhat care when they're winning and don't pay attention when they're not.
As a Canadian, I disagree. I'm a lifelong fan. Sucks when they lose. Frustrating when they suck but I am no bandwagoner.
Not true, speak for yourself.
As a big time jays fan it’s not tht they aren’t good it’s just the team feels so depressing and there’s no energy there, it feels like everyone knows that they aren’t good enough to compete which is true
When they do hopefully decide to reset and rebuild I will be back in my seat watching whenever I can forsure
lol sounds like gm knows all 40m Canadians?
Gausman will be fine. Bassett is the definition of a league avg starter.
Toronto big league sports in general is in despair mode right now I'd say
At least we're getting a WNBA and women's soccer team soon! Elsewhere, it's so cooked 😭
Vladdy is welcome in Seattle!
If I where the braves I would trade for Bo and move Arica to RF to fill in for acuna
Bring back Cito Gaston!
Brutally outdated stats - Vlad is hitting .300.
CARDINALS CARDINALS CARDINALS
Jays have the most unbalanced lineup in the league, they need quality left handed bats, this has been a plague for them for quite some time.
Apocalypse now ending please
Never should have let go of AA. Dumbest move ever.
love to see it
Stop the bs analytics, just let them hit, Vladdy should put weight back on, he hit a ton when heavier, losing the weight screwed with his approach and swing and distance, too many management people involved, just let them hit the damn ball
