Bo made major swing changes in his batting technique. Last year, Bo led the AL in opposite field hits and most hits. His signature hit was a line drive to the right field corner. His usual swing was short and quick, which allowed him to lay off curves and sliders. Bo could extend his reach and hit outside pitches to right field. His .305 average and batting were HOF type numbers. This year, Bo changed his batting technique, line drives to right field became ground balls to shortstop, hitting frequently into double plays. More recently, Bo switched to an uppercut swing and results were fly balls to the outfield. Would love to see Bo go back to the batting technique he used in previous years and see a huge improvement in this year's performance.
@@MadarakiFrana change in swing or approach even when what he's doing is working is usually done to try and improve on a weakness. Like lets say with his old approach he struggled against sliders, well eventually teams will pick up on that and only throw sliders so they want to try and improve the weakness before it becomes a major issue. The real problem though is when the guy is a great hitter like Bo was you don't want to try to improve on the weakness, you want to improve his recognition of the weakness so that he lays off on those pitches so that pitchers are forced to throw what he wants or walk him. The other issue too is that in today's game pretty much every team is too obsessed over launch angle and exit velo because of their love for analytics, basically telling Bo to lay off that outside pitch that he was going to hit into right because the next pitch will be a better pitch to pull and hit hard to left and possibly be a home run but only ends up being a fly out or ground ball to short which in my opinion is the real issue with Bo ... the Blue Jays have struggled to string together hits so a bloop to right (especially with two outs) becomes practically meaningless when no one and advance and/or score him so the analytics say go with the approach best suited for hitting home runs as then he isn't reliant on his teammates to score him (which is truly a horrible approach at baseball)

So this video, along with other videos about why Vladdy and the Jays in general are so bad offensively, kinda makes the management/coaching staff look real dumb. It’s been pretty obvious to anyone who watches the jays that the players have been getting coached into some weird hitting strategies that has sapped all their power and ability to hit fastballs. Cause I don’t really buy that so many talented guys that have histories of being good hitters have all turned to shit. Awesome video by the way lol, just by the end of it it made me think of a lot of other videos popping up that last year or so.
Glad you enjoyed! It's hard what to think about what exactly the coaches are telling them. But I will say, Don Mattingly saying this team is not a power first group of guys is bogus. Pretty much all these guys can do damage. We even saw when Danny Jansen stopped listening to the coaches he became one of the best offensive catchers by returning to his pull approach rather than trying to go to the opposite field.
Precisely...excellence turning into something very different for numerous strong hitters and all at the same time (in pretty much the same way)? It's telling.
His approach when early in counts seems to be off. Trying to do too much to help the Jays offense which is struggling. But when his back is against the wall and he reverts to his minimalist contact centered approach he’s performing better than he ever has. Another reason as to why I state in the video is because his stats that value contact is down (xwOBAcon). This can be a direct correlation to his barrel % being down tremendously. In order to barrel a baseball the minimum is a batted ball at 98 MPH or better exit velocity between the launch angle of 26-30 degrees. He has not been doing much of that this year. Which means the point at which he hits the ball with the bat needs to be improved in order to have more batted ball luck. In other words, while he is making similar contact to years prior. It’s not as good contact. And it makes sense why his BABIP is down by around 80 points.
he is going to be a hall of famer if he has no more big injuries but i have a feeling that knee might come back into play during a pivotal moment like october baseball
@@kingslayer3796 prior to this season he was on a pace of 27 HR 96 RBI slashing .299/.340/.487 (.827 OPS) with a 126 OPS+. That's a shade below Corey Seager's career numbers and if he stays healthy at this production level he'll almost certainly be a hall of famer.
Stats tell most of the story but there is always the possibility that for example his knee is still bothering him. As a hitter, everything comes from your backside. If his back knee is bothering him, its impossible to generate power. Hitting the ball with authority the other way requires pop. Which was Bo's signature. Doubles in the right center gap, etc. That could easily be the cause of all of these weird stats. Injuries will also take your head out of the game which could easily lead to him chasing pitches he normally wouldn't, etc. I bet he returns to form next year. You don't go from being a top 3 contact bat in baseball to mediocre at best overnight without something foundationally being wrong. The dude was leading in hits for a 3rd straight year before getting injured last year and hit .300 from 2019 to 2023 with three straight 20+ homer 30+ double seasons. His OBP was consistently .330-.340 every year. He was actually possibly the most consistent player in the league for that stretch. Something is wrong with him physically (and probably mentally as a result)
The fastball issues also explain why he is best when behind in the count. In situations where the pitcher needs a strike he is most likely to see a fastball to get that strike, and maybe more to avoid a walk. Whereas when ahead in the count a pitcher is more likely to throw a off-speed pitch to try and get a batter to chase.

I wonder if there is something wrong with Bo's vision? Maybe he needs glasses or laser surgery? That could explain him not seeing fastballs and his barrel rate dropping.

It's been a tough few years for us. I think after the season I'm going to spend 2 weeks just making a vid abt the Jays stretching from the Bautista/Encarnacion acquisitions through this season. Hopefully make it 40ish minutes.
@3-0Greenlight sounds like an incredible idea. To think that a couple of years back, there was so much hope for this team, and now, little hope remains. The last two years have been totally abysmal. Personally, I think when they traded Hernandez and Gurriel, they traded away the heart of that clubhouse. It's become a totally joyless club house. I've been a season ticket holder for many years and have no intention of renewing for next year. They've done wonderful things to the inside of the stadium, but that won't be enough to keep fans from walking away from this current management group.
I think it's a combination of things. he looks like he doesn't want to be here but he's so aloof it's hard to tell. his free swinging is extreme. when he first got here he was hitting but had to lead the league in 0-2 counts. he could hit but he was swinging at any and everything. you aren't going to reach potential always being in pitcher's counts. he got better at it and lead the league in hits. he's back to swinging like a madman again. pitchers know they don't have to throw him strikes to get strikes. I think he's fed up with Vlad too. I sure am
Yup, he's giving pitchers free strikes by swinging freely. He's yet to have a hit in a 2-0 count this season. And all 4 of his homers have been with 2-strikes...
its very simple for him needs to move to the toe tap for the full at bat......theres obviously something wrong with his knee still and he cant generate that torque he used to his timing is alittle of as well with the toe tap hes able to see the ball on time and hit any type of pitch statistically with that many moving parts in his current none 2 strike swing its literally impossible to be consistently timed up with this level of pitching because every leg kick hand hitch will be mathematically different on each swing....so the at bat becomes a heavy odds game in the pitchers favor...u have to get "lucky" to catch that one pitch where u timed it up perfectly which is why alot of hitters are hitting .220 now a days because of these ridiculous leg kick hand hitch swings....the toe tap on the other hand allows the hitter to have margin for error....what i mean is is start the toe tap alittle early u can still have the chance to hit any pitch start the toe tap alittle late u can still hit any pitch or atleast foul it off the reasoning is ur body is still and head is on plane and mathematically the distance from ur foot torqueing to let ur hips fly is SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER then a leg kick which requires u to land before u swing...a toe tap vs a leg kick is like a ferrari racing a horse.............look at yelich dude is RAKING he went from the massive leg kick hand hitch to now the toe tap hes hitting .335 look at ohtani toe tap...these dude are leading the league in avg. ......with the level of pitching in the mlb and the amount of different pitchers u will face in a game unlike basbeball of the past...the toe tap gives u the highest statistical odd of hitting for avg.

It might feel that way in certain stadiums like in Toronto where moral is down. But this past weekend was actually the best in terms of attendance league wide since 2008!
It's his set up and backwards movement as the pitch is being delivered. He's got to get his uni # showing preswing at set up. The instinct to is get open at setup when your late on fastballs . The problem is he wastes time during the pitch delivery getting squared and weight back before he actually drops the barrel flat and started forward. He's picked a bigger back swing now he late. So he starts earlier getting his weight on the back side with a higher front leg lift. That's just the wrong adjustment and once you burn it in cascade motor prep memory you're screwed in game. It's going to take lord how many swings in the cage to fix it all. Add a bad knee in and your stuck cause you can't hang in the cage for the hrs necessary. LA will fix him eventually if he listens and he'll be a steal.
his nagging lower leg injury is hurting his swing. All I needed to know, all this extra research is unnecessary. Playing in Canada's colder weather isn't going to halp that body part, a swing requires all your parts functioning at a normal level. Bo's new lower leg brace is not a good sign, as it now requires a new swing technique to be embraced and he has failed to change with his new body issue...he needs to change before the injured part destroys his career.
The Jays play in a domed stadium so it's never cold when they play. So it's actually more regulated than most ballparks. We'll have to see about his injury. I definitely think his knee injury last season was mismanaged.

I'm just curious about when the last time you played baseball was
once don mattingly became hitting coach the jays stopped hitting. the lineup is also missing big bats. getting rid of hernandez was a mistake
You left out the part that he no longer wants to play in Toronto. He sees no future there. They do not want to pay him what his agent thinks he is worth and will be traded in the off-season.
jays coaching staff is atrocious! donny baseball needs to go, everywhere he went, he messed things up!
Great video but that advertisement attacked me. 5’9” is average height..
LOL.. I felt that!
😂
Okay shorty
Stop overreacting. Bo will fine. If Toronto trades him they will regret it.
I’ll be happy to take him here in the atl haha
This is what happens eventually to all NEPO's...When they start falling apart and the adversities come along, they cry for daddy or revert back to a sulking child because they can't have there way.
I believe that BO stop taking PEDs…. I also suspect based on the 80 games suspension of the Jays top draft pick, their minor system must be riddled with PED usage.
He’s been big into drinking the past year, you always see him out jf you’re any of the usual spots downtown and he’s ALWAYS trashed.
He’ll be fine. It’s not like .265 is an abysmal number.
He's having a bad 50 game stretch stretch, almost everyone has that.
He’s in the midst of his worst 25, 50, 75, 100, and 162 game stretch of his career. He is also a bottom 20 qualified hitter in MLB this season.
He's a free swinger he will have ups and downs
Bobby Boucher' spends to much time being a Superstar Off the Field ...
Blame the Blue Jays batting coach and front office. It's no secret that their entire philosophy changed after 2021 and 2022. EX: Vlad, Springer
I wonder if there is something wrong with Bo's vision? Maybe he needs glasses or laser surgery? That could explain him not seeing fastballs and his barrel rate dropping.
Has he started to return to old Bo form?
I came from the live stream. Who is your least favorite Blue Jay of all time??
Mitch White!!!
He was unbelievably bad with us. I couldn't watch any game with him on the mound.
I could never get behind Ezekiel Carera back in 2014-15 it always felt like we had a destructive offence and then there this guy was for no real reason other then he was a lefty
Travis Snyder. I liked him in the beginning, but he was a huge let down!
Alex Manoah
It’s a mental thing/mechanics. One of those things in baseball. I mean for f sake Chuck Nnoblauch. Dude couldn’t throw 15-20 feet to first while playing second base. And it never went away. Clear your head kid. Don’t think about HOF and worry bout social media. Just go out and be loose. Go watch The Fan and look how Bobby Rayburn got outta his slump. As he told Gil… “he just stopped caring”
A lot of Jays' noses out of joint over the big money offered to Ohtani. Some of them are starting to perform now that trade deadline is approaching.
His swing is getting too long. He used to be able to swipe that pitch down the middle and outside. But now he’s so slow with his hands he can’t hit that pitch anymore.
It's his knee, drop in technique shows it.
His Dad could be the issue if he is still in his eat

There seems to be a lot going on behind closed doors in the Bichette household. I wouldn't be surprised if it's hurting Bo's game.
@@3-0Greenlight how do you know
In Toronto, we don't ask what happened to Bo Bichette. We ask, what the hell happened to the Blue Jays, period.

I think Atlanta trade for him, The Braves had Walt Weiss who played with his dad could help out.
Maybe. Jays FO said they aren't trading them. But if the right offer is made who knows what will happen.
Bichette, Biggio, & Guerrero are gonna TAKE OVER the league. What a trio..,.
Definitely has not panned out the way most thought so far.
Baseball is a cruel game when you stop hitting.
57 point dip in BA, not 67 (321-264)
Bo Bumchette eh. Buffalo Triple A called, they need a bus driver. Bo knows......STRIKEOUTS.
He's in a slump, he will finish strong.
Same problem as last year with no change
People who miss old Bo
👇
I do!
Basically he's late on his swing when he does the big leg kick. Jays batting coach needs to go
not sure how many thumbs downs are allowed. I'm confident I'll learn.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. has also hit the skids as a hitter. Somebody must be spiking the "juice" in Toronto with "downers."
Valddys having a really decent season this year. Not as good as he was in 2021 but you can’t complain with a near 130 OPS+
It's safe to say the Vladdy and Bo era has not been as elite as most anticipated.
@@WaluigiLebron Finally someone who isn't jumping on the "let's hate Vlad" bandwagon. Just because he's not putting up HoF numbers doesn't make him bad.
Bo hasn’t been in the lineup these past few games.
It's clear both Bo and Vlad need a change scenery. Both of them need to get out of Toronto.
Nah they need to fix their mechanics, especially Bo. Vlad just needs to take baseball more seriously in general.
The Jays are gonna trade him and Vladdy for terrible returns because Atkins and Shapiro just do Rogers bidding as opposed to what’s best for the team since they need to pay for their precious stadium renovations
Atkins said there was no way they would trade either of them and are working on extensions with them both. You are actually an idiot
They'll have a very hard time selling seats. It should be in there best interest to compete each season. We'll have to see if that will actually be the case.
Is my boy Justin Turner with the jays???
Yup! He's been a bit hot and cold but he seems to be finding his groove again
so is Joey Votto...Votto needs to have a talk with Bo....Joey knows hitting ....Joey fixed Matt Carpenter up (temporarily anyway)
Lol he asks what happened halfway through after explaining what happened in the first part of the video and then just repeats himself... He got hurt is what happened... We aren't dumb treat us like a grown up lol I'm just bustin balls
Is baseball OK? Is it normal for all these stadiums to be super empty ?
It might feel that way in certain stadiums like in Toronto where moral is down. But this past weekend was actually the best in terms of attendance league wide since 2008!
The jays still get over 30,000 fans for a weekday, and close to or over 40,000 for a weekend game
@@3-0GreenlightStill 10th best attendance in baseball
obviously you haven't watch a Dodger or Yankee or Cubs home game
The jays are probaly trading him away
I love Bo Bichette hate to see him break down
BOZO Bichette.
Guess you were wrong about the rest of this season.
Forget the Jays.
Nice input, I'll go back and take some looks at his swings.
Trade him to the Braves, problem solved
I see the Dodgers going after him for sure.
I think he'll definitely have his fair share of bidders in FA
He'll be a dodger this month
We'll see!
So in summary he sucks now and may not recover?
Needs a haircut and all will be well.
He started playing like shit ok guys just saved you 14 mins
his nagging lower leg injury is hurting his swing.
