I would use a mixture of NFL and UFL rules. I feel like CFL rules are too different from the rest. Also every team would play under the same ruleset cause I think having four different sets of rules is too complex.

Feel like you'd want a bigger playoff pool. With eight divisions in two conferences, top team in each division gets a first round bye, second team in each division gets a playoff berth, and then four wild cards for each conference.
    • First week would be WCs vs 2 seeds, cutting from 24 teams to 16 teams
    • Second week would be W1 winners vs 1 seeds, cutting from 16 teams to 8 teams
    • Other weeks go 8 > 4, 4 > 2, and then Super Bowl/Grey Cup
Also saw the talk of cutting down to 56 teams. May be fun to round up to 64 teams, though, just to see what areas we could serve. Get some of the larger cities in Mexico without teams, for instance, as well as notable omissions in the US (looking at you, Salt Lake City).

If the UFL/NFL/CFL/LFA rules (full disclosure I’ve never heard of the LFA until today) were all used, the roster size would surely have to be increased to something like 60-65 players. For example, tight-end is not an actual position in the CFL because the rules don’t really allow for such a position to have a use. They would need the roster flexibility to add players at that position for when they traveled. Just one example.

i dont like the idea of one big league, we could keep the regular leagues for a point im about to make but another idea is: it could rather be split into 4 leagues combining the ufl and nfl, then splitting them with maybe some canadian/mexican teams joining those leagues. also keep in mind ufl expansion to maybe 16 teams with the return of the teams that got folded in the next few years. after this i see the total number of teams being ~64 which could be split into 4 leagues and 4 divisions in each league, i was thinking atlantic (eastern canada + east coast), central, (great lakes, midwest, great plains) pacific (california, north west maybe some mexican teams), and southern (texas/gulf states + the rest of mexico) ANYWAY my main point of this is so it could be like european soccer and we can have a "champions league" type of tournament. AGAIN this could still happen with the current leagues, but i took inspiration from the major 5 leagues in european soccer and how they're each in their own country, and in this case of north american american football, i did it based on geography. also like concacaf, europa, afcon etc. it could be the NAFC north american football confederation so it really feels like those futbol confederations i js named.
EDIT: note that if its a 4 league format, a "champions league" would be established 100% with the same way the actual champions league works and is systemized, it could be top 4 teams of each league or top team in each division move on to knockouts for the NAFC champions league to determine the best team in north america/ THE ENTIRE CONFEDERATION

I think once you go past 40 just go with promotion and relegation. It gets too unweidly. But also for the divisions you could possibly go with different names. Off the top of my head you could go with
The St Lawrence Division (East North)
The Great Lakes Division (East Central)
    The Shenandoah Division (East South)
    The Atlantic Division (East Atlantic)
The Rio Grande Division (West Central)
The Nazas or Rio Santiago Division (West South)
    The Pacific Division (West Pacific)
    The Mackenzie Division (West North)
It also adds a nice theme of water features. You should also shift the Carolina Panthers into the Atlantic and move Memphis into the East South, fits way nicer. Its also a pity Hamilton couldnt be fit in. Having all the Ontario and New York teams being in the same division would be very thematic

    A few comments:
Regarding rule systems: I still feel like switching between 3 and 4 downs on a basic level is a massive change and I'm not sure it's workable. At the very least, the CFL would have to give up their field size requirements, bringing the yardage more in line with the rest of the league. If nothing else, the difference between the CFL and every other North American Gridiron league is significant. This might work better if, for example, Mexico switched to the CFL system and you could have them + Canada versus the US system. Of course, there's also just the option of a hybrid rule set that takes elements from both games (probably overrepresenting Canada's based on population, but still) like keeping 4 downs (since Canada uses that in a lot of HS and college systems even today), but adopting lots of other CFL systems and rules.
For the Conferences, I think an easier way would have been to focus on the national divisions. In other words, you get an EFC Canada/North Division and a WFC Canada/North Division, an EFC Mexico/South Division and a WFC Mexico/South Division, both with some gray area and potentially a cross-border team or two. The UFL, as it's using primarily NFL rule-sets and is inside the US, I either don't see getting its own division and being merged into the NFL, or potentially losing a team or two to relocation at least given a lot of them share markets and even stadiums (like the Michigan Panthers being in Ford Field). If you stick to the split rulesets, you could create an expanded CFL ruleset within the wider NAFL with border regions switching to CFL/(New) LFA rules, and build the rivalry between Canada and Mexico with the US while still capitalizing on the markets of the US a bit more.
Also, to be honest, there's no way a lot of UFL teams stay in their current locations in a potential merger, they're directly competing in fall football with far more established teams. I'd guess a lot would see relocations:
*Houston Roughnecks* - Either moving to SLC or OKC due to Texans market share. Could also move to Mexico to expand market share, though probably with a new name.
*Arlington Renegades* - Either moving to SLC or OKC due to Cowboys market share. Could also move to Puebla to replace the Artilleros in Mexico.
*DC Defenders* - Moving somewhere for sure, since they compete with the Commanders in their home market. Either a more specifically Virginian team (which Washington won't like because of market share concerns) or some weird relocation to something like Salt Lake or Charleston.
*Michigan Panthers* - They literally play in Ford Field, there's no way a merger would see the Lions allowing that going forward. Between that and their shared name with an NFL franchise, they'd move and rebrand. Maybe this is the new New Jersey Generals or Portland Breakers/Sea Dragons or something.
*Memphis Showboats* - Maybe move somewhere else, but could maybe capitalize on Memphis/Arkansas to make it work. If they move, I think they probably rebrand.
The Birmingham Stallions and San Antonio Brahmas are fine, but they're basically the only ones in the UFL that's not competing with a more established team in the same market in this scenario. The NAFL would presumably be smart enough to move them to a new area where they're more profitable for the league as a whole

There's more to the leagues than just rule differences. Rule differences indicate overall strategical differences. Teams have a 2nd and 10 strategy which is going to be different if you have 3 or 4 downs. You can't expect a team to have a playbook and separate game plans (which includes play scripting) for 3 different rule sets.

A better reorganization would be to have a proper “minor league” system to the NFL. It would allow development of younger players with a much better shot for a future, it’d be at a level about college football too so it’d be really fun, could also experiment with the rules and stuff

    • @aleks1939
      @aleks1939 14 дней назад

I like the idea, but I don't think a minor league for the NFL would work because each team already has a practice squad. I guess one could make the argument that the UFL is a minor league for the NFL, but 98% of those players aren't even good enough to make an NFL team's practice squad.

    • @pohorex6834

@@aleks1939 the entire purpose of a minor leagues is to allow depth and development of the “practice squad” players. @@nelsonedwards6184it’s not that the cfl isn’t entertaining or that we think it isn’t, it’s that there’s no real incentive as an American to watch it. We have spring/summer football here with the UFL, and even then that’s pretty niche in terms of appeal for most markets. We have such a big main season for football with both college and NFL running concurrent that the spring leagues feel like a tad bit of an over saturation, and the lower quality of play on the field doesn’t help their cause either. Add in the rule differences etc. it just isn’t a very attractive product to the average American. This isn’t saying it’s bad, we just aren’t the market for it, which makes sense it’s a Canadian league FOR Canadians lol. The only sport in the US that really has anyone watching teams not from the US is Soccer and that’s because we don’t have one of the premier leagues globally for the sport. Outside that nobody is really watching teams in other countries for sports unless they’re REALLY into that sport or sports in general. For example i know tons of huge NBA fans, most don’t watch or give a fuck about FIBA or Eurobasket etc. This is starting to change a bit but that’s largely because the leagues here are starting to change and become more international in their approach and nature, and this can be seen with things like the MLB pushing the world baseball classic or the NFL expanding the number of games played in Europe. Historically, here in the US, if it wasn’t the world cup or the olympics it doesn’t get much media coverage if any at all in regard to international sporting. Also important to keep in mind access to non American leagues historically was quite difficult here. Until the internet and streaming became more commonplace non main 4 leagues were relegated to obscure channels and time slots, and that probably was intentional by the leagues and their TV partners to drive down competition, but there’s really not much that can be done about that at this point. Even today, watching the CFL on regular TV here is very hard. So there’s a lot of cultural and logistical reasons as to why it isn’t a popular thing here even as a niche interest.

    • @Fatblue246
      @Fatblue246 12 дней назад

@@ThomasDonnelly1888 this is just a fundamental misunderstanding of sports history in anglophone/francophone NA vs Europe, they’re inherently apples and oranges. Sports here have always been for entertainment, and politics really hasn’t been a part of them in the same manner as they are in europe, and it’s why it’s usually poorly received in NA when politics and sports mix regardless of the message. Logistics also make non closed systems very difficult to be financially viable/practical in the US, and it’s why closed systems were even adopted in the first place. Sporting largely has its origins in Universities here in the US, and outside of Baseball professional sporting really just was not a thing here until the interwar period-post WWII. It doesn’t really have the working class origins that it does in Europe(though i know this does vary depending on the sport we are discussing anyway even in Europe)and we haven’t had any huge wars or political conflicts in North America in that time period like Europe or South America has that would facilitate a political culture around clubs either. IE professional sports teams have largely always been private business ventures here to provide an entertainment product and a way for players to keep playing, not as a way for say political like minded people to organize or something along those lines. Universities usually filled that club niche as they function very similarly, in the sense that they don’t move and service much more localized communities as opposed to big swathes of areas, and are publicly owned(this often seems overlooked by foreigners but most US universities are public not private institutions so they’re viewed by the community as community assets like how a club would be in Europe). The US is also quite vast and sparsely populated between populace centers unlike Europe which is far more urbanized and densely populated by comparison. For example, Montana is roughly the same size as Germany, but only has 1 million people populating it as opposed to Germany’s 84 million. The distance from there to say NY is comparable to that of Paris France to Lviv Ukraine. Things like that make market parity and logistics very difficult here compared to Europe, even in the closed systems we have which offer more club stability. Much easier for clubs financially and logistically traveling in countries the size of Texas rather than clubs that are regularly crossing a country the size of a continent. Imagine if your 3rd tier teams in the pyramid had to travel from Paris to Moscow regularly for regular season matches, that’s the logistics you’re expecting clubs in the US to be able to manage it just doesn’t make sense. I would also say your system really doesn’t “give the sport back to the people” anymore than ours does. We have a publicly owned team in the NFL lol, and you all have billionaire owners in Association Football over in Europe. Realistically, no entity that’s taking in millions of dollars for a profit is “for the people” and the end results largely are the same. Sure in THEORY a team could make a run up the pyramid and ladder in the open system, but that usually only happens when they get new owners who have tons of money to dump into said club and at that point you’re effectively making a closed system with extra steps. you aren’t getting cinderella stories of clubs with no money winning the Premier league it just doesn’t happen, and it’s owned by the elites at this point as much as say the NFL is lol. Caudillo is kind of a military leader, used more frequently for revolutionary uprisings and not so for regular armies.
Mexica is the proper name to refer to the aztecas who ruled central Mexico when the first europeans arrived, technically in spanish "mexica" and "azteca" are not the same, but in english there's only "aztecs" so you probably should stick to that.

  • @N_manMETA11
    @N_manMETA11 13 дней назад

Okay, I'll start with what I reallt like:
-Divisions (worked well with a stupid number)
    -Rules by Stadium (awesome idea)
In general this is just a fun, cool idea, but my curse is, when I hear ideas like this, I invest into trying to make them realistic as well; with that in mind, I do have a lot of concerns with how this would work.
The draft, namely; it would need to be shortened to 5 rounds for it to even be a slightly reasonable number of draft selections; even then, 350 entrants is considered a "large" draft class for the NFL, the average is closer to 310 or so.
I truly do not believe that the NCAA, even if D2 players could declare for the draft, would be able to supply prospects for 58 teams, there simply aren't enough qualified football players for that.
To me, you just wouldn't be able to guarantee the best level of play out of all teams in the league, and part of this extends to a (potentially) even bigger issue, of the salary cap and free agency... and especially for the Mexican based franchises.
On paper, the Mexican teams would likely be the worst, which sounds great because the worst teams will draft high, the problem with that is, now all of the top prospects in our sport (some of whom come from poverty) will now have to SCRAMBLE in order to get work visas and learn Spanish, just to move to Mexico to play games.
The ways I see that hurting football are:
-Players refuse to sign rookie deals
-Rookies might not be able to even play home games in their 1st season
-Teams in Mexico, and to a lesser extent Canada, will inevatbly have issues with who they can draft and what players would sign there
This brings me to my next concern, the salary cap; this would cause HUGE rifts. What currency would players be paid in? Where would the cap even sit? To me, the cap would almost have to stay where it is, if not, drop somewhat; especially to a point where the Mexican clubs could spend to the cap at all. For the Canadian clubs it wouldn't be as much of an issue but the Mexican economy is... bad.
Bad enough that in a $255 million (USD) cap, even the most successful and richest LFA clubs would be struggling just to meet the salary floor (which would be ~$227M based on this past season).
They would either need to lower the cap for ALL teams, have the league directly pay players for "out of nation markets", or abolish the salary cap entirely (and at that point, it becomes the MLB but potentially even worse).
If, theoretically, this happened right now. Today, they announced it, it's happening sort of deal, here's how I'd roughly scale this operation in terms of the teams as they are:
    1) Top Flight NFL Teams (say Top 10)
    2) The middle 12 NFL Teams
3)Bottom 10 NFL, and a top tier Canadian and UFL club somewhere
4)Top half UFL and CFL clubs
5)Bottom half UFL/CFL and top LFA clubs
    6)The rest of the LFA
And this general expectation would probably only exaggerate itself over time, as once again, the difficulty of getting players to Mexican teams would be an uphill battle on both a logistic, and on a financial front.
Out of the non-NFL clubs in this proposal, the ones I see potentially having the most success are mostly CFL, and a handful of UFL clubs.
The Argonauts, (BC) Lions, Blue Bombers, Stampede, Battlehawks, Defenders, Brahmas and *maybe* the Roughnecks, I would envision being the most immediately successful of these teams.
Next would come the Alouettes, Redblacks, Elks, Renegades, Stallions and Panthers, I think they'd suffer some setbacks (Panthers would ubdoubtedly lose out on Ford Field, Montréal has the language barrier, Ottawa and Edmonton just aren't super big attractions, and the Renegades have the impossible task of measuring up to the Cowboys locally).
All the remainder of the teams either come in too small of a market, are too remote, or would pose financial struggles in severe fashion; the only one I'd give an honorable mention is Memphis, I think if they could supply a true NFL caliber stadium, they'd make for a passionate, rowdy bunch but I'm not sure how feasible that would be...

Instead of teams split in division and conference, cut the top tier 1 league to 16 teams and the rest in tier 2. Bottom two got relegated to tier 2, and the top two in tier 2 promoted to tier 1. I believe that system would make each game means something and you can't just lose on purpose.

Obviously a bit less popular a choice when it comes to 'mass appeal', and I think the a real model would have ro cut way more, but the Reyes and Raptors playing in medium high school stadiums makes then easy cuts for an even number.
