A shame it's not effected by Grunt due to engine limitations on DLC. Both would be S tier with that 25% damage bonus.
Thankfully Jsawyer mod fixes that.

If you're playing a "one gun only" build This Machine is probably the best all round rifle. Maybe the All American or a scoped Trail Carbine might beat it out because, outside of VATS, they have better long range accuracy because of the scope but the Trail Carbine is like hen's teeth if you don't know the guaranteed spawn and All American is more of an end game rifle.
That said I've found in Fallout that you're better off either sniping at long range or setting up ambushes at point blank range so a good sniper rifle and pistol combination will be better than an all rounder like the Battle Rifle. The Varmint Rifle/9mm Pistol starting out, then Hunting Rifle/That Gun and the end game is Christine's COS Sniper/A Light Shining in Darkness. Most of these combinations will even weigh less combined than the Battle Rifle by itself.

I love the gun for the cool factor alone. I just wish they had added mods for the Battle Rifle.
My head lore is that the CMP (civillian marksmanship program, which sells m1 garands) converted a lot of these rifles to 308 in preparation for a potential full scale invasion of North America. The reason is that the 30-06 rifles need a specific lower pressure round to avoid damaging the op rod. It's not that the US government wouldn't have this ammo. I am sure they still have loads (probably still in clips on bandoliers), but because it would be logistically more difficult and a lot of people would unintentionally damage their gun trying to load hunting rounds in it, which isn't a problem with the 308 M1. You can load whatever commercial 308 you find into a 308 m1 garand and be fine.
My only complaint is the lack of a scope, the M1 absolutely could be scoped.
The first type has to be installed during production (before receiver was hardened), and later barrel based mount was barely made. The reason is that relatively (but not absurdly) high spread is accurate.
That would be a cool mod.
It would be a decent option. But I'd much rather a red dot or other improved sight without magnification. The thing about game guns, as opposed to real life, is that there is a designer picking every gun in the "ecosystem" and making sure they're balanced against each other. There are two other .308 rifles in the base game, the Hunting Rifle and Sniper Rifle. The Hunting Rifle is your starter heavy hitter, and then there's a split. The Garand has much worse spread than the Sniper, but its rate of fire, faster reload, and good iron sights make it a better option at medium range. If you put a scope on the Garand, you'd either make the Sniper Rifle obsolete (it's slower firing from a smaller magazine) or, if you left the spread the same, the scope would be pretty much useless.

Tbh making wepon repair kits aint that hard. And after Sierra madre you have almost unlimited supply. Theyre cheap like 20-25 Sierra madre chips. And you get a ticket for 1k chips every 3 days and Cristines coin operator perk to make slugs for vending machine. You do need at least 6 in perception and intelligence, but i firmly believe that you always must have at least 6 in this 2 stats.

Now I understand... My character in FNV have Guns 100 so I can snipe with every guns in the game( I can also snipe with 10mm pistol too)

Nah the unique one is easily S tier. It’s carried me on nearly every play though and due to its high right of fire for a such a high crit chance and damage it wipes the floor with the entire game.

I get one as quickly as I can. It is my favorite Guns 75 weapon in the game. This Machine comes after the Battle Rifle shortly after.
The sights put me off. Much like the cowboy repeater. A scope would make up for this.

@@williamashbless7904 It’s still there, my dude. Theres an option that turns your zoom into the FO3 zoom instead of using the iron sights. Very useful for things like the varmint rifle.

Honestly, while i love the battle rifle/This Machine, I dont think you really represented how bad the spread is at medium/long range. It's really not good at all unless you use vats, and I'd personally place them one letter grade lower each. Not bad by any means, but an S-rank weapon? Not to me gameplay-wise.
