    Gobi Campaign Rifle is one of the best weapons for VATS, period. The accuracy and AP-to-damage ratio is insane.

    there is a sniper rifle in an abandoned building near west side which you can get pretty early, about the same time as vikki and vance smg, not to mention the one in McCarran on the top bed where first recon is located

    I remember when F:NV first came out, before any of the patches, these had a 5x crit multiplier. On top of that, JSP rounds had a 1.5x damage multiplier. My first playthrough was a breeze with high luck and the Gobi.

    • @LeleiTheTigress
      @LeleiTheTigress 4 месяца назад +1

      Good thing they patched that, because that would be absolutely broken. As long as you had 10 luck, Finesse, and the 1st Recon Beret, you could achieve a 20% base critical hit chance, and the sniper rifle would jump that up to a 100%. Then having JSP would increase the sniper rifle's base 45 damage to 67 damage. This effectively means that as long as you're effectively sneaking and landing stealth crits as well, you would be doing 201 damage every shot. And with the Gobi, everything factored in would make it deal 312 damage every shot

      My first playthrough i also used the sniper rifle with x5 crit modifier. By the time i got it whole game was a cake walk. Lanius was no challenge at all etc.
      It was a good nerf.

    A sniper rifle always spawns inside the vault 34 armory, there's also a guaranteed sniper spawn somewhere around the north freeside gate, inside one of the many ruined homes there's one with a locked bathroom with a bunch of ammo and a few guns, but I can never remember where it is

    When the game came out the basic Sniper Rifle was pretty insane and it got nerfed in the first patch about 4 weeks after the game launched. Originally it had 60 base damage, 60 critical damage and a 5 x critical chance modifier. With the right stats and perks you could get guaranteed 240 damage head shots by level 10 and 480 with sneak attacks. I stumbled on the sneaky sniper play style in my first playthrough and it took three shots to take down Legate Lanius before I reloaded a save and did the speech option. It did hurt when they nerfed it but I can see why they had to or people just wouldn't have used anything else.
    Non Quest Spoiler Below.
    There will always be a Sniper Rifle, even at level 1, sitting on the top bunk in the 1st Recon Sharpshooter's tent at Camp McCarran. It's not even tagged as stealing if you grab it.

    I love to play as sniper in FONV.
    the first thing is do is put only 4 strength. and use points on luck and agility.
    start lonesome road get the weapon repair skill for ED-E, leave lonesome road for end game.
    then black jack to get money, go to NCR and buy lots of .308 ammo
    Start Big MT, to get re-enforced spine +2 strength and the Christine's CoS silencer rifle.
    Optional (play Seirra Madre to ton of gold bars)
    around mid game already have high luck, agility, and all implants you can get from the money + plenty of money, and you can enjoy the build for rest of the campaign rather than building your build till end game. and ED-E can repair your gun once per day!

    I always run the Gobi Scout Rifle. Maybe my playthroughs are a little curated, but dang if I don't love the feeling of sitting on top of the tower in Quarry Junction and lining up perfect headshots on all of the Deathclaws around, watching as they explode into fine red mist. It's also just a great general sniper, since it's not as cumbersome or situational as the Anti-Material.

    So happy to see you cover the Sniper rifle family! I felt god like on my last playthrough with a sneak/VATS build with the Christine (at least until I started Dead Money when everything unravelled). Thinking of trying as explosives/unarmed build next time and your videos are a good heads up of what to try

  • @doublecrossedswine112

    I am in love with the Anti Material Rifle. Those explosive rounds are way too OP. It repairs with cowboy repeater and other menial weapons that you find a lot. Only downside is 8 str to use so you might need an extra perk like weapon handling but so worth it.

    Depends if you’re only using them from stealth or not, since sneak attacks are always crits, crit % chance doesn’t matter as much

    I imagine enemies don't carry them much because NPCs don't really engage you at long enough distances most of the time for the exceptional range to matter. Likewise, I imagine they don't want a melee character to have to hike half a kilometer under high damage sniper fire to punch their head off.

  • @mistertuinkabouter

    I think christines silencer rifle is just better then the gobi. More base damage bit less crit damage and higher crit chance. The silencer is the cherry on top. The gobi does look way cooler though. And perhaps its better in a vats build but i dont like vats builds much myself.

    • @mistertuinkabouter
      @mistertuinkabouter 4 месяца назад

      Actually doing the math i think both are kind of equally good. I guess you need more luck and crit chance for the gobi though.

  • @mapu1

    I personally find sniper rifles without silencer kinda bad cause it takes too long between shots and enemies just charge at you. With silencer you are doing double(or more with perks) damige, and they do not run at you, and you can sneak kill people really close to you indoors. In my opinion it makes huge difference, cause every shot is s stealth crit, and you are not drawing aggro.
    Try it out, get high sneak, tunnel runner(and/or Travel Light and Atomic! while eating coyote steak), improved crits and Christine's COS Silencer Rifle. and sneak around shooting things a bit after sneaking up behind them.

  • @desertdude540
    @desertdude540 4 месяца назад

    I really don't like how it does less damage than the hunting rifle so that Boone will never use it if you put one in your inventory, but that might have been intentional. The only option for a silent Boone is to got to Old World Blues and get Christine's rifle.

  • @brantnuttall

    used to rush lockpicking for the Gobi which I love, but after I found it, I just love Christine's more. The modded with a silencer should be S tier though. I just love sniper rifles.

  • @i_am_ergo
    @i_am_ergo 4 месяца назад

    The Gobi Campaign rifle is kind of weird. Compared to Christine's silencer rifle, it trades base per-shot for crit damage, i.e. it's better on a sneak build… but it doesn't have a silencer, i.e. it's worse on a sneak build. It was certainly an interesting way to balance the two uniques and the modded regular sniper rifle on the devs' part. Me personally? I love silencers in FNV.

  • @raymondgagnon4815
    @raymondgagnon4815 4 месяца назад

    I just use Ratslayer as a sniper rifle. I cleaned Cottonwood Cove and Camp McCarran with it. McCarron is tricky for sniper, but still works.
    Ratslayer crits and silencer negates the lack of base DAM.
    Otherwise I use fully modded sniper. Easy to get.

    The .308 ammo, at first im buying from Contreras, but then dead money dlc happen, with easy 1k sierra madre chips every 3 days, i can buy .308 ammo (vendor code is at police station) and weapon repair kits easily.

      Mostly just an attempt to balance your weapon options during earlygame and midgame really. You can technically use some powerful weapons as soon as you get them but you either won't be able to keep your aim steady or you'll attack much slower in the case of Melee or Unarmed.
