Was genuine and it was a early bad stoppage but Froch prove his point with a belter of a shot I would of been interested to see it being 1 each going into that fight then a 3rd fight both top guys in my opinion!
Groves had quicker hands, quicker feet, punched harder, better jab. But it's amazing what superb conditioning, heart and chin can do. Though Froch was a very clever fighter too, and had decent boxing skills. He made the most of what he had. Ward was another level, but Froch was arguably the next best of that era.
Carl as much as your one of my favourite fighters in British boxing,me and my mates at the time and still to this day think it was a premature stoppage albeit at the time we were going fucking nuts because you beat George, and it was a genuine rivalry.
Terrible stoppage, terrible scorecards at the time of the stoppage.... Conclusive as you can get in the rematch!! Howard Foster still hasn't changed, any excuse to stop a fight! Apart from the beating he let Warrington take against Lara
What a amazing fight warriors both of you we will never no you might of stopped him but the referee jumped in a little soon but you did start to come back a little bit hope you are well topman! 🙏😊
Absolutely loved those fights and the rivalry. Must say Groves was out to show the bully and stood his ground. Froch give the man and any other the chance to talk! Btw Groves arms look bigger than yours! 👊
The reminiscing on this fight got me remembering when I actually met the cobra! I’d been a fan for ages so couldn’t believe my eyes when on a lads night out in notts I’m stood at the bar , just turned my head to the left , double take, no way! “Carl froch!” You shook my hand , told me about your next fight which I’m sure was only a couple of weeks away and in Nottingham , 2007 ish I think , I asked for a selfie and you said “sorry mate, if I do that the whole place will be on me and after a pic” fair enough I thought , returned to my mates , who didn’t believe me , “where is he then?” So I pointed you out “he’s there look having selfies with that hen party!” Ffs , fair play
Benn v Eubank was a on different level! Nigel was an absolute beast, he put his life on the line, over losing! If you disagree, watch the G-man fight,!
I think by most boxing standards it was technically speaking an early stoppage. But that said and to be more clear, this stoppage was a well informed one by an experienced referee. The left hooks that landed had such an impact that the end was inevitable and obvious. The stoppage timing though contested because it was abrupt and absolute in a fight that had more free ebb and flow in terms of exchanges up until this point. My humble conclusion after quite a few rewarchings: an early stoppage in context of the more libre action and refereeing that preceded this ultimate moment. But, and more importantly, a clear cut wise beyond years decision considering the obvious outcome had the fight been allowed to continue for even 5 more seconds. The referee saved a soul that day. Both warriors deserve praise and in my opinion , although probably controversial, champions aren't always the person who holds the belt and for me there were two champions in this fight that day. The winner got the prize but the two got my admiration from then on. As a fan of boxing, who am I to care who is called champion when I consider myelf a fan of the art and so respect quality from both opponents. No dog in this fight so to speak. In short: technically early stoppage but absolutely and beyond any doubt the right decision that protected the opponent. If even two more seconds were allowed here we would have seen an unconscious body in that ring!
...Without the intro it's not the same... At least you could have said you're and international boxing hall of famer. 😅 I never liked the bad attitude outside the ring, but when fighting... Always a great show!
"Everything for a reason" said George after the first fight. How right he was because the stoppage translated into one of the biggest and most viewed rematches in British boxing history whereas had the ref allowed Carl get the stoppage which was 100% coming imo, then the rematch may or may not have happened, certainly wouldn't have been anywhere as big, and neither fighter would have got that huge fight that unfolded. As for Carl, SMUG AS HE IS, can be very greatful to the ref that arguably stopped the fight a smidge early(George was cooked, it was over bar the extra battering he was about to receive from Carl) AND greatful to George for the work he did outside of the ring to hype the fights and create that rivalry that in turn generated the huge interest. That was 80% George, 20% Carl. What Carl needs to understand is, regardless of him acknowledging it, is that a lot of boxing fans never really gave a shhht about Carl or even heard much about him. He was just this boxer that got mentioned briefly while the big names of the sport were fighting and being promoted instead of him, and without George and the trolling and rivalry George brought which initially caught people's attention, and that refs early save to stop George being stopped, I'm pretty certain Carl retires as "That great fighter nobody really knew or cared about". That might sound harsh, but that's how I see it as a boxing fan who followed all these guys careers and lived through those eras.
Its like rocky 1 and rocky 2 and the honest friendship and disagreements they had about their 2 fights watching the fights back lol! Ive said it many many times before and ill say it again! George Groves had thee best jab in the buisness! Its was a total weapon!!!
I enjoy these blogs, Carl, and I would love to hear your opinion of one of my all-time favourites - Herol Graham. I know everyone talks about him getting chinned by whatsisname but he should have been in the ring with so many boxers who didn't want anything to do with him (Hagler, for instance). As Chris Eubank said "Why would I get in the ring with someone I couldn't lay a glove on?" Some pundits say he ran away but there was a reason that his nickname was 'Bomber'. Seemed like a lovely guy. Greatly underrated it seems to me.
Great to see this between you two. It was a bit premature stoppage but I think Froch would get on top very quickly if it had carried on because it had been a hard fight and if there’s an opp for a ko Carl would take that with both hands like he did against German Taylor.
Bad stoppage but Froch proved something in the rematch. Personally I thought Froch legitimately should of lost to Dirrell. Having said that I thought his performances against Glen Johnson is super underrated. His win and performance over Bute was really impressive. His fights with Pascal and Taylor were legendary battles. All in all he beat quite a few fighters I didn't think he would beat. Pavlik v Froch was a fight I always thought would of meshed well. Two blue collar guys tough as nails
I've always said... "if it was the other way around, Froch would be fuming" and i stand by that. Froch was definitely taking over in the fight and he did catch Groves with a belter before the stoppage, but i think the ref should have kept going imo.
Bad stoppage but jesus christ, you took a savage beating from GG in that first 6, I didnt know how you were still standing, fair play! Im 46, and even though you can come across as a bit of a nob sometimes, you shade Benn as my favourite ever British fighters, absolute warriors, now that would of been some fight! Cracking chanel btw...
Froch took one of the worse beatings I've seen in this fight. How he clawed it back is a testament to the guys toughness. It was a bad stoppage too. We will never know what would have happened is good old boy Howard didn't jump in prematurely.
Was a massive Froch fan like plenty & I couldn't believe what I was seeing Groves punched him from pillar to post for 6-7 rounds how he was still fresh & coming bk I'll never know but imo frochs is the best fighter this country produced. Fighter not boxer. Groves best jab in British boxing in his prime. Big right hand too. Been into boxing since early 80 when my dad used to get me up for big fights as a treat 🥊
I think it was maybe a little bit soon but you saying how you were beat up the first 6 rounds just (just to easy to hit) proves why Calzaghe who was in a different class to Groves would beat you all day long, sorry
I have to give George credit for being able to get under your skin so well... the Cobra sometimes liked to wind up opponents a bit, and George did well there. The Rubik's cube, I'll never forget it. Even here, with the leg-pulling over the dance show, classic. 😃 As for the stoppage, I think the issue is that he'd been allowed to throw the kitchen sink at you all fight and it continued. Had it been a more competitive fight (because it wasn't a good night for the Cobra, with all due respect) then maybe it wouldn't have seemed as bad. But you were just starting to turn it around after a bad start. Plus, there's the perception that George can't take it as much as the Cobra... if the situation had been reversed and you'd have taken that left hook, do you think the ref would have stepped in, or would he have thought the Cobra can carry on? I was concerned after watching George fight Glen Johnson, I assume you saw that fight? You know from experience what a warhorse Glen was, but against George there were parts where he didn't look like wanted to be there. (Glen echoed the perception, picking you to win ISTR, saying that you could take more punishment, despite the fact that George was so dominant against him.)
Both men proved to each other they deserved to be champions but the referees decision is final. Ultimately both of them are alive and well today and lets be honest made a few quid. It provides them with something to wind each other up over from here to eternity and therefore was the right decision. Both truely Great British boxers.

Anyhow, this is a great boxing cha🥊🥊🥊🥊
Great reveals. Froch really honest about how beat up he was.
I do agree Carl, on the slow-mo after the left-right combo George looked gone, but it shouldn't have been stopped.
was a terrible stoppage theres no doubt about that
Was genuine and it was a early bad stoppage but Froch prove his point with a belter of a shot I would of been interested to see it being 1 each going into that fight then a 3rd fight both top guys in my opinion!
Good to see the old rivals getting on...
I agree. Btw you are a stunner ❤
I'm heading straight back to watching that first war after watching this
George, that barnet is brutal mate. You looked better when you was bald fella.
Love how Froch plays the character. He’s funny.
the music playing during the handshake gets me every time 😂
Absolutely loved those fights and the rivalry.
😅
I never liked the bad attitude outside the ring, but when fighting...
I know everyone talks about him getting chinned by whatsisname but he should have been in the ring with
so many boxers who didn't want anything to do with him (Hagler, for instance).
As Chris Eubank said "Why would I get in the ring with someone I couldn't lay a glove on?"
Some pundits say he ran away but there was a reason that his nickname was 'Bomber'.

Think the Stoppage was spot on. No point in a fighter getting more hurt than he already was. 🤘🤘🤘
Stopped too early i believe George won the first fight but the second fight carl definitely focused more and clearly won.
I’m seconds in but loved that you were man enough on his podcast to say “Howard foster did me a right favour.” 😂😂 🎣 😅😅
Bad stoppage at the end of the video was that a mistake..? It just cut ofd
Christ, you'd think this was the great rivalry of all time the way Froch goes on about his fights with Groves.
I've always said... "if it was the other way around, Froch would be fuming" and i stand by that. Froch was definitely taking over in the fight and he did catch Groves with a belter before the stoppage, but i think the ref should have kept going imo.
These 2 are brilliant together. I think if the fight went on, it would have been whoever landed the next big shot first.
Think we need a Cobra / Grovesy exhibition bout ! I can see you build up video like the end of Rocky 3 between Rocky and Apollo !!!
Back in the day I preferred Froch, but the tables have turned now… I think Froch is a helmet and Groves comes across as a polite genuine guy
Yous 2 have a great chemistry now.. yous bounce off each other very well.. nice to see 😉
Carl, take a breath son, george might want to add summat 😂
Groves is so sound. Legend. Very self aware the way u can both speak about it
The best British rivalry. 2 proper fighting man going toe to toe
carl froch is one of my favourite boxers of all time
Whoever sorted ur neb 👃 they did some job - looks good 👍
Froch took one of the worse beatings I've seen in this fight. How he clawed it back is a testament to the guys toughness. It was a bad stoppage too. We will never know what would have happened is good old boy Howard didn't jump in prematurely.
This rivalry put British boxing on the map
Doesn't seem a year since you did the decade video. Time flies, great fight and great memories though.
As for the stoppage, I think the issue is that he'd been allowed to throw the kitchen sink at you all fight and it continued.
Great interview with Carl interviewing himself lol does George actually speak haha, can we do a trilogy
Very underrated is groves, better than in froch imo but doesn’t matter when he was rendered unconscious. Two very competitive fighters.
Both men proved to each other they deserved to be champions but the referees decision is final. Ultimately both of them are alive and well today and lets be honest made a few quid. It provides them with something to wind each other up over from here to eternity and therefore was the right decision. Both truely Great British boxers.
