    Totally got me on the UPS joke! You have already answered questions in this vid for me. Im riding a twin fin swallow tail, way to long and too much volume but having fun. Nervous on what length and volume to get as a new short board surfer and for our generally small beach breaks here in Huntington Beach. I’ve gone back and watched many of your older vids too. Keep them coming 👊

    The seaside is great as a groveler that can go ok in good waves. The dominator is great in good waves and can grovel a bit. It's hard to see where the mashup fits in (where I surf). Looking forward to your review

      @@ThomyeSurfs Pesce and I chatting about it and he mentioned liking the Glaser thruster set on it. I tried that and couldn’t get it to work. Then I went with the F8 Legacy with the Q2 quads and the board turned into an instant classic. I typically don’t like raked quad fins but it felt smooth and fast with a bunch of hold. And the paddle power of this board is amazing. Handled the pier crowd well.

    You fooled me big time!
    I was furious at first - glad it wasn’t the case.
    I have the 5’2 (24.5 liters - machado dims) seaside that I love but I need a bit more volume for the smaller days and was thinking of getting a 5’3 or 5’4 or maybe waiting for the new Sweet Potato.

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад +2

      Sweet potato 2 looks "sweet". I am prepping my twice baked for sale so that I can get the sweet potato 2. I figured out that I really like swallowtails so maybe this will be a step up from the sweet potato the baked potato and the twice baked.

    • @dynodin81

      @@ThomyeSurfs Also different board tech/materials, I wonder how much of a difference that plays compared to the twice baked.

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад +1

      @@dynodin81 I like the twice baked at a super groveler but I don't like the weight. I feel it. My ideal would be a 5'1 baked potato in helium so this will be a good compromise. :) The only negative i see is that the 5'3 twice baked in TT is 31L so having this in helium at the same liters will make this actually an uber groveler.

    • @dynodin81

  • @paulbaker7675

    I considered the mashup yet for what I want (wave garden and groveling) the seaside still seemed the better option. I also beat Firewire to the drawing board and had a centre fin plug put in my seaside as I wanted to ride it as a 2+1 setup. When it gets bigger I just jump on the sci-fi. If you just want one board though, I think the mashup fills the quiver killer option better than the dominator 2. I'm not a fan of that step rail though. It worked on the spitfire with the diamond tail but just looks off on this board.

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад +2

      No you don’t have to go hire in liters. I noticed that the sweet potato 2 is super wide so that alone it’s just extra grovel.

    • @a.lame.username.
      @a.lame.username. 2 года назад +1

      I would! True grovel boards need extra foam. My definition of grovel is up to waist high and 3-8 second period.

    @Thomye Surfs So excited to see your review. Hoping some swell arrives for you. How would you compare it to your spitfire?

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад +3

      So far it’s way better. Some points that need to be made though is that the dims to liter ratio are different. The 5’4 mashup is more like the 5’6 spit in terms of volume but being 2” shorter and a bit narrower, makes the board more performance oriented. For me, the mashup lives up to its name. It is a spit and seaside And having served both and loving both, I feel this board is the ultimate culmination of its parents positive attributes.

    Looking forward to seeing this review. Still hesitant on mashup or seaside to complement my Seaside and Beyond. The odd question I have for you is do you know what is the official leash plug location? I see some Mashups like yours with the plug in the middle but then on the website it has the plug on the side like the seaside. Not sure what is better in this Helium construction but I know my SSB got some damage due to the leash on the side.

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад

      I'm not sure . I think the early ones are off to the side and then the later ones were centered. Mine is centered which i think is a better positions for it.

    Finally someone reviewing one in the right size, looking forward to this one. Use contact adhesive for the tail pad, same stuff they repair shoes with. Squeeze it in there then leave it with something heavy on top overnight. I do it before the pad gets salty and damp, works better.

  • @bugharkleroad9002

    Question for you? What have you found to be the best fins for performance? Thanks

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  2 года назад +1

      that is a great questions. for smaller days, I like bigger fins, like the naked viking dan manns. Also what works well was the quad, large front with smaller backs. On punchier days, a medium fin worked best, the toledo fcs. I like the FCS2 fins for the convenience and the Naked viking in single table for the value and construction. The apex fins seem to flex just enough to drive the board. One thing though, it took me a while to get used to the humming that the apex fins make. i was annoyed at first but someone said to me, if it's humming, you know you are going fast. :)

    The placement of the fin boxes has me hesitant on this board.

    • @ThomyeSurfs
      @ThomyeSurfs  Год назад

      the fin box is set up as a standard thruster. The quad box is set up sort of in between what Dan Mann usually does and what Kelly does. On the Spit and other Dan Mann boards, the quad rear boxes are set a had further up. Kelly rides his quad rears back closer to the thruster center fin. But the thruster is standard measurements.
