    I had the 5’8” Seaside. I sold it and got the 5’10” Mashup. I struggled with this for almost a year, tried different fin combinations and just couldn’t get it to work well. So I sold it and went back to a 5’8” Seaside. Much more versatile and just works well in everything, even on the bigger days. I’m 52, 5’10” and 175 pounds. Looking forward to see your experience and results on the Mashup. I was really disappointed as I so wanted it to work.

      That’s my thoughts exactly. Doesn’t hurt to try. I can always sell and go back to a smaller seaside if it doesn’t work.

    I am 46 and have the 5'8" Seaside, and the 5'9" Mashup as well. I also started late in life, but better late than never. You said "rocketship" and that is kind of it...when it clicks, it is one of the fastest boards I have surfed, for sure. Like any board, it shines in clean. I ride as a quad mostly, and it went great in overhead surf at K59 (El Salvador). It is a good compliment to the Seaside when the surf has a bit more punch and a bit bigger, or you just want to mix it up. I relate to your videos!

    • @surfininmy40s

      So cool! Yea we are definitely like-minded on the mashup. Do you ride the mashup more than the 5’8 seaside?

      @@surfininmy40s Short answer, no, probably not. I reckon if someone had kept track, seaside would win out.
      Long answer, let's go for a coffee and discuss our addiction. Ha! I am also an idiot and have way too many boards compared to my skill level. I am a Firewire freak (mainly because 1. I like how they surf, and 2. the Helium is so tough, that years later, while yellow, the deck of my Seaside is still flawless.)
      Meanwhile, after 3 surfs on my Album Twinsman, it looks like the surface of the moon (incredible board!).
      Anyway, I love the mashup, and will take it out tomorrow as we have some head high forecasted. If bigger, I will take my 6-0 Dominator 2.

      Nah, but I'm only 74kg. Also I'm used to volumes of 31-34L. I think that it's not bad to have a board that's a little hard to paddle. As long as you are still getting a few waves, it will make your paddling & surfing better - stronger muscles, improve your timing, pick better places to take off & ultimately read the waves better 👍@@surfininmy40s

    Based on your skill level and weight, the same board with 2-3 more L would be key. The 5’10 or 6’ would help all around, you won’t lose maneuverability, you’ll gain momentum and speed which is what we all need to go on the attack.

    • @surfininmy40s
      @surfininmy40s  5 месяцев назад +2

      100% agreed. Wish I had the 5’10. This board is doable though and I will give it a fair shake. 🤙🏾. Maybe if I lost like 5 lbs that might do the trick 😆

      @@surfininmy40s 🤙 the strong construction and brand recognition should fetch you a good resell and it’s a popular dim size. Once you pull the trigger, you’ll be that much more confident on the slightly larger size. 175 isn’t so heavy in all fairness unless you’ve been surfing infrequently less than 10 yrs or so. I’m 180, upper level intermediate who surfs multiple times a week and I’d still stick with the dims I mentioned above for myself….especially surfing crowded Ca spots. Finding that size sweet spot is hard and can be expensive.

      @@surfininmy40s Stick with the 5’9”. you say in the outro “advance to the next level.” you’re already feeling amazing once you’re up and riding. It’s not just paddling strength but also working on better positioning, or having more confidence to catch the wave later. Bcz you can work up to turning, sink the board, make it pop and you can catch the wave with 2 strokes to zero. I got the 5’8” when i was 43 at 180 lbs. Also, we’re only getting older, better to drop some pounds too😆. i dropped 30 lbs, now 44, on a 5’6”. Keep pushing! 🫡

    How does the Mashup compare with the smaller Seasides that you've ridden? I think you have/had the 5'7 and 5'8 Seaside's and they're both around the same literage. Your content is great and really relatable and I've also thought about getting a Mashup as my next board. I just turned 50, about the same height and weight and riding the 5'10 Seaside. My last session I put in twin keels and it goes amazing, I prefer it over the Machado Quads. It feels more like a skateboard, really fun and playful.

    • @surfininmy40s
      @surfininmy40s  6 месяцев назад +1

      I would say the 5’7 seaside and the 5’9 mashup are closest in comparison. Both are challenging to paddle but at the same time both are super fun once you are up and riding. The seaside has an edge because of the width. Even the 5’7 seaside is 21” wide but the mashup is just under 20” wide. That being said I really like the mashup and feel I can get used to it. It feels like a seaside but just feels super high performance..
      Always good to have a 5’10 seaside in the quiver. I still have mine.. might have to try the keel fins one day 🤙🏾
