A great piano concerto by Bartok. Not very popular these days as performers and orchestras, but more irritating than anything, producers, today look after repertories of what the "sells." Not necessarily you can blame them, classical music is fading. A good example Hauser, not a great cellist, but fills up an auditorium by 300% or more that Miasky. With his "Foster" type; laser beams and spectacle where his virtues as a cellois disguised by the "circus. around him.
Nonetheless, we still have this site to follow and view the real musicians. Grimaud is absolutely great. But even with her, what has happened ? You can not find anymore anything by her

@@a.f.4248 Alef - My remark does not imply anything derogatory about the work, the artist or the performance. I love Grimaud's playing and I respect the hell out of her. "So what?" Well, here's what. If you've ever done any performing on stage, you'll realize that this is dangerous. The lid could fall much more easily in this (wrong) configuration, especially considering a percussive piece like this Bartok. Also, if the performer spots this mistake too late, it can distract them and throw the performance off (obviously that did not happen here - and if it did, Gimaud is such an incredible performer that she didn't let it freak her out). Normally in professional performances such as this, you don't see this type of oversight (I'm assuming you didn't spot it, either?) If there's criticism intended here, it would have to be directed at the stage crew who placed the piano on stage and prepared it for Grimaud's entrance.

I can't understand why Bartók didn't emigrate to Switzerland. I understand it was hard to assess the situation, but at least there were personal friends and connections there. Someone very convinced him that he could safely finish his folk music research in the States, in a library. He just wasn’t told what he was going to make a living from because there wasn’t really a demand for his research work and its results there, at that time.
Unfortunately, so many people weren’t interested in his brilliant piano playing, even though he was a great virtuoso. His "impresario" could not take advantage of, claiming that in the midst of a big scramble there was no demand for his piano playing.
