Well, if I ever decide to try get a first I'd like you to donate the 20 to a local charity of your own choice. And being a noob, I not long ago dug out my first amp I bought (28 yrs ago) and set up a sub and components in my living room. Any suggestions on the best way to power car audio in home? I'm currently just using two PC Psu's and I have a 2 channel Nikkai eapa 250 running a Spl10.1 and a Juice JA794 4 channel running 2 sets of Fli FU 5 components which I will be making cabinets for.
You need to bring back the amp dyno vids man!
Incorporeal get yourself a deep cycle battery, then search google for “RV converter” and you will see plenty of options of both new and used. For under $200 you will be able to get a nice, new, good sized unit. Hook it up to the battery as close as possible if possible and run everything from there. NOTE, make sure deep cycle is maintenance free sealed like an Optima. Otherwise choose a SLA battery (sealed lead acid) even a 12V35AH will work good, they cost around $70 shipped give or take
I learned something new with the "at box-tuned frequency, your woofers move the least while making the most sound." Thanks for the knowledge drop, Steve.
For anyone searching for the router bit used to enlarge the hole, It is a duel bearing trim or pattern bit (get the size to fit your router) and then the bearing on the end is changed to one size smaller to provide a cut. So if the bit comes with duel 1/2" bearings you change the one on the end to 3/8" and now you have the bit that will cut away 1/16" each pass. Just buy the bit and a router bearing assortment kit. Hope this helps.

Interesting about the tuning frequency vs excursion. Glad to learn.
I really like how you stated that subwoofers have less excursion at the tuning frequency of the enclosure that they are in! A lot of new guys don't know about this, and don't know that this is normal behavior. I actually have an old sine wave generator made by a company called Forward Innovations. (no longer in business) I purchased the device back in 1991, and had it shipped from California! Since then, I took the device to school and put it on an O-scope, and calibrated the knob, so that whatever frequency I select, it would indicate it accurately. I have been using this device since 2002 to determine vented enclosure tuning. I am hoping to order up some more modern tools from you though. I already have the DD1, and it has proven to be a VERY GOOD device to have!

That jig saw work was A1 that wasn't easy and that is a well trained hand, I believe most of anyone can make that sub fit but with that effortless motion is nowhere near as ez as it looks I have over 15 years experience as a carpenter and that was expertly done gately knows what he is doing

The lesson of the day about being at your tuning frequency is indeed awesome my subs nearly move and they put out a lot..of course when pushed harder they move more..they sound like thunder.. unbelievable how loud they are and barely moving they're turned to 20/25 Hertz I must admit though those subs moving in and out like that does look badass ..but I'm totally happy

Those DC’s were flexin! Gately a wizard with that jigsaw lol that isn’t an easy task to freehand an already cut mounting hole.
I've tried that before: I suck at it. However, I was able to get the driver to seal to it, so as long as no one takes it apart, I won't be embarrassed. It sounds OK.

I’ve been in that predicament before when I had to trim a little off with a jigsaw and it isn’t the easiest thing, especially when the size is as small as he had to work with. To see him take that excess of in one piece was pretty impressive.

Man you did a great choice in picking up some X's, I'm running 2 15's right now and they move air like nothing I've seen before and hit the lows amazingly well and loud
Subwoofers DO move in a ported box, but movement is minimal at AND around the TUNING FREQUENCY. I posted a video of my JL Audio 12w7's getting over 1,000 watts each from a CT Sounds 4K, and some schmuck said I need a bigger amp, and that they were barely moving. I wasn't mad, that statement just told me that he raised his hand and said, "hi, I am a noob".
The 2500 is an absolute BEAST! Very good choice there! I am loving my 1500bdcp. It is the first amp I have owned that made me tap out of my own system - the damn thing would NOT overheat and shut down!

For the Bass Head on a budget, a little bit of elbow grease and some sand paper will get the job done. Or that steel bar sander thing (forgot what they are called. You can pick up a used one at the swapmeet for a dollar).

@Mykel Hardin some subs are oversized. And maybe all the budgeting went into a box and subs but didnt plan on them not fitting. Or maybe the advertised dimensions were not accurate and now they are stuck in that situation. Shit happens, and this is good advise for those who dont have the specialty tools but have the will power

I have the same box in my LOHOE with a pair of IDMAXX 12s in it.
I love the look of the dc audio subs and look like they slam. You think 4- 8s would be louder deeper bass then 2 dc audio level 4 10s? Since the 10s require 1cu i can definitely put either 2 level 4 10s or 4 8s jus dont knkw which set up would hit the hardest and get the deepest

just had to do the same thing cut the hole out a little for my mofo 15 put it in a sealed box to fit it in my civic
I would have liked to have seen if the cone excursion would have INCREASED, if brought slightly ABOVE ported frequency.
it did.
It makes sense, owing to the rapid increase in impedance, suggesting less acoustic loading on the voice coil. At much higher frequencies, there just isn't time for the cone to move very far, before the signal reverses its direction. The velocity would still there, just not the time constant.
