To play devils advocate even this test EMF did is misleading as the Q and resonance of the ported enclosure will have more to do with whether it survives or not. If the enclosure is being driven near its resonance, the sub will experience the least amount of cone movement due to the high Q there, and its impedance will be at its lowest point, and the current conversely at its highest. As the power dissipated increases with the square of the current (P=i^2*r), and theres a lot more of it now at resonance, the voice coil can rapidly overheat due to the relatively small movement of the voice coil combined with the high current draw. Theres a lot more to rating a sub then just what it can handle, and there's no real safe way to actually ensure a speaker will survive rated power in all circumstances. EMF's subs could easily suffer the same fate and fail below their rated power limits if the conditions are right.

My friend had 2 rockville 15s. Pushing literally 2000 watts to them. 1000 per sub. Set with the correct tools. The subs caught fire and burned his car and everything inside it after an hour of playing. The setup was done correctly. He had the same setup prior to the rockville subs and was running them for a few months. The only thing changed was the rockville subs were put in. Paralleled at 1 ohm final impedence.
Then it was not installed correctly, Any one experienced can hear the subwoofer at its max lol. Or smell the coils. Or check the parameters and see it won't like 1,000 rms
I think they just don't know and have willful ignorance. Like the info sheets and website. That seems like a translated Chinese manufacture spec with some American editing along with it to make it sound legit. No one talks that way and I would be embarrassed to put my name on a product with a description like that.
Bruce is an awesome guy and he doesn't sugar coat anything when it comes to his reviews. I tried so many times to buy a Rockville K9 and they were ALL out of stock. I'm glad that they were after seeing Bruce's videos. I have a Rockville 15 in my wife's car, but it's in a tiny box powered by a terrible eBay 1200 watt amp.
EBay does not produce any products neither does Walmart. Both carry excellent equipment and garbage equipment depending on what you purchased from them which is why I don't understand when people say oh I got a garbage Walmart woofer if you go to walmart.com you can get just about any brand name woofer or any other component that you would like at a good discounted price with an honest return policy of 90 days. Just saying🤪
Sounds like Chinese translated. I’m sure it’s black aluminum formers with ofc wire. Either way it’s a junk sub that could’ve been a great bargain if they changed a few things.
Reminded me of the cool professor; we had fun and definitely learned something. This is a historic moment for car audio. There are those with the equipment to verify the quality of their purchases and share it with those who are at the mercy of a company. Those who say the hobby is loosing steam most live under a rock. Keep up the good work my friend and God bless. P.S. those 3 thumbs down must work for rockville.
For some funny reason I want a EMF hat and lanyard now :) :) Exactly why I really like the 12s I have in my trunk build. They come from a great company that took the time to properly test and did not cheap out on the quality of the driver build. I have absolutely Nothing against any other brands (There are a ton of great companies out). But they have to be legit, this was a very nice presentation. I went for popcorn because very entertaining and the facts are there. PS I almost fell out reading the description too.

240C is 464F. Note my comparison was the coil, not the dustcap. Those are very different numbers you'll get. The claim was coil temperature so I tested the coil.
@@EMFAudio Paaa haaa haaa ha ha! It couldn't take 240 degrees farenheight! They can't even claim a typo as a saving grace. Maybe they can plead dyslexia as a defense and claim they meat 042 deg C.

It sux rockford fosgate is mentioned with those brands. I've had 2 p3 12's that's rated 600 watts a piece on a taramps hd3000 with the gain well over half wired to 1ohm for well over a year and they still sound amazing. Their amps do rated power to which has been proven.
Gain position IS NOT an indication of power output. You very well could be making 500 watts total in that gain position, or you could be clipping it to death from the gain position being too high.
I know gain is not an indication of power, I'm not trying to pretend I know more than u about this stuff because I don't but I'm not an idiot either . I was only saying wat I've had my taramps on over the years .and no I'm not clipping any of my subs . My whole argument is full bridge can sound good on subs and be reliable. I paid under$300 for both of my taramps and while your amp is better all around, at $500 for a 2k on sale for an EMF amp,the taramps smart 3 will always be a better value. I also have a stetsom vulcan 5k and the EMF 2k is still $100 more than the stetsom vulcan 5k while your amp is on sale. I'm not saying your amp isn't worth it ,it's just to expensive for a lot of us. U can keep speculating on wat u think clda be happening with my systems and my full bridge amps but nobody has ever got in my cars and not been impressed with how loud and how good they sound
I know your a car audio genius and I'm not being sarcastic, but not all of us are complete idiots when it comes to car audio. I'm only saying that because u capitalized IS NOT in your comment. Why can't u admit that a full bridge amp can sound good on subs I admitted your amps are superior and even said I'd trade my taramps for one in a heartbeat . But you keep trying to make me seem like I don't know wat I'm talking about any of this..I've always supported you and I never acted like an ass whatsoever so u don't need to do that
I had a W65K9D2 hooked up to a 600w 1ohm amp and bumped it from San Diego to Los Angeles and on the way back the surround ripped halfway off and I glued it back together with E6000 and it still bumps to this day! I got that magnet extremely hot after 6 hours of abuse with rap music. The max rated was 1000w but I'm surprised it can handle half of that.
Nice test. I think what is going on is that, because of the constant 60Hz (without rest every second or so ), the voice coil does not get sufficient cooling. It is possible for another brand that it handles cooling different and not go up in smoke. It would be nice If you can give some more in dept background on cooling of a voice coil, would be great, because not much to find on the net about it. Thanks.
So what I learned is on around 300 to 500 watts this subs good to go and sounds good as well. So know this going in and you're golden. Still not bad for just over 100 bucks. 🤷♂️👍
Remember guys this is a cheap subwoofer manufacture trying to step up their game. No one should be upset about this if anything it helps the guys that can’t afford the pro stuff and it still sounds good so my hat goes off to them as a very reasonably price speaker manufacture to go the extra mile even if it’s not perfect.
I wish Sean would stay with EMF. I liked the guy and his videos. Very informative and a straight shooter. I bet Sean could rebuild that bastard into something awesome.
I thought this too. It still means they aren't very involved in the whole process of designing, making, testing, and doing the paperwork. It all sounds like Chinese something.
I'm happy I didnt settle for them... My question for you is: On a DVC sub... What's the difference,if any, in running a single line to sub and jumping the basket -vs- equal length leads running to each voice coil...?? Is there a difference in subwoofer performance?
That is a little bit of a loaded question. That will depend on how much power, what impedance, and how big of wire size. As long as the wire size is correct for the power there won't be a difference.
@@EMFAudio 4ohm dual voice coil rated 1750 rms, running 2 on a GM 9601 at 1ohm... 4gauge power in and out... 6 gauge speaker wire split to 10 gauge per lead(+/-) Didnt know if jumping the basket would create a split second difference in signal , changing the characteristics of the sub.. if one coil is wired and a jumper run off to other vc... all my sub wiring is symmetrical and equal in length from amps to speaker terminals... I thought the sub would let go around 600 watts on a tone. I still am left wondering if they will make changes or continue with this farce. Next we will see there boxes are cea rated.
You know Rockville will continue this K9 dick dance. They are in too deep now. They fucked up and now have to stand by subwoofers that were apparently not tested correctly before release. The refunds have to be epic scale.

This is an off-brand company trying to come off like a name brand company the same thing that boss did when they labeled their Chinese merchandise they were trying to fool the public into thinking that they were actually getting Bose. This company is doing the same exact thing they're taking two name brands and combining them in order to fool the public that they're getting a name brand and then they're putting ratings on the box and on the instruction booklet which is an outright lie they sound horrible and that's the bottom line they're looking for maximum profit as when you go to China and have your name put on a product you can have the factory produce something however you like it they're capable of making all different levels of merchandise from the worst to the finest depending on whether you're looking for straight profit and a one-time kill or you want to get customers to keep coming back because they like the way it sounds it's not China's fault it's the companies that go to China and instruct the factories what to do what they're looking for I worked for a wholesale car audio company in Baltimore that got so big that we actually went to China and had their name put on DJ equipment woofers components and so on they got the name by driving past a car parts place that was called AutoZone we named our product A - Zone that's how it works people buyer beware. make sure when you buy something you can get a full refund this way if it blows or if it doesn't sound the way you want it to you can always bring it back and exchange it for a name brand pay the difference.
I had no problem running 2 12inch k6 subs on 1,000 watts rms for almost a year. I just wanted more sound quality subs so changed them out. At time I paid about $44 for the k6 each from audio savings, have no complaints. I'm also not doing spl though, so big difference. If they put just a little more into these k9s they could be really good, not sure why they skimp on random stupid things. The Rockville Amp dynos, show they do product the certified rating they claim on box or within a couple watts, not the like boss numbers etc. Very good info in this video, I'm not running any Rockville products now, but I can say the amps are good for the price, seen price rise some, so they are not as good of deal like in past.
The subs aren't failing because they were used "for SPL", nobody is using them for SPL, they're just being used. If you're using them for burps they're far LESS likely to die than in a daily application.
Brilliant....Relaxing AND informative. Good job calling them on their nonsense. Rockville Guys are business students trying to sell an inferior product to some bassheads who wont stand for their subs Fuckery. #emfratingstandard
So, it's basically a 600~750(?)W 12" sub for US$114? That's not too bad. Bear in mind that an Alpine Type R with the same RMS rating will set you back another $100 on top of that. Had they marked the K9 as a 600W sub, it's likely none of this bruhaha would be going on. (Interestingly enough, the Alpine Type R "black cone" version went through something similar, being a "1000W RMS" rated subwoofer that turned out to be more of a "750W RMS" subwoofer). Your measured t/s parameters for the K9 actually look better IMO than the published ones (lower Qts, lower Fs, higher efficiency). That high Le is a bit horrible though, and I'm going to bet that "28mm" Xmax rating is p-p rather than the more common peak rating (so "real" Xmax is likely half that). Excellent video BTW. I thought you were going to relate coil temperature to coil impedance and use that to determine when power compression started to exceed 3dB (at which point it makes little sense driving the speaker with more power), but that might have been a bit too technical for the crowd here, plus it's likely that coil's insulation failed before that point was reached.
Yup, nothing about this testing was good or bad it was facts vs claims. Though, power handling doesn't indicate performance either, it may sound like garbage, didn't get to critical listening.
EMF Audio that's crazy! They lowered the price I haven't check it in like a month but for a month these were higher in price! Maybe they came to their senses
@@jOhnVd0e yes i'd be curious if someone made a custom setup using the Rockville subs and seeing if a great or decent system is possible example Amp: 2X Orion XTR 2500.1's 3000watts@1ohm(tested by BigDwiz) each. Subs: 12 X Rockville K9 D2's only at 300watts each or 3600watts total all in an 35hz tuned 4th order. i mean they have done 137-142DB from a single sub so what would 12 do on low as hell power?
#emfaudiostandard every manufacturer should be testing how you test your equipment. Far and few between have the passion for audio like emf. Been a fan since the first batch!
That's exactly right man . A design that is not great but could be. Rockville, take your time and do it right. Emf audio, along with other audio brands have put in the wrench time. CEA compliance is not working in the standards these days cause you can have the test fixed to say anything. So how is the customer going to know if the audio equipment will do what is state on the product information form. There are a lot of companies making claims that are not true with the products they sale. If you are going to jump into the audio world. You had better put you products where your numbers are. They will test. People just want true specs.
This is a lot of work to call a spade a spade 🤭 but I enjoy it. Also, let's not forget Rockville wouldn't get any smoke if they just had ratings that made sense. It seems to still work for them, look at their ratings on Amazon. I guess going with the "Cheap Chinese nonsense! with *insert large number here*" approach still works.
So basically rockville subs might take that 1000watt cea rating but only with normal music not heavy bass stuff or you risk blowing it so there stuff is good for probly 70% of the car stereo market but not for the serious audiophile. Thanks for all your work on this Sean!!!! My little girl now want me to get her the pink emf hat when i order her lowballer for her civic lol

The Rockville employees had a bunch of opened beers scattered around them in their video. So they're drunk. I'm not mad now knowing that they're simply drunk while designing and testing their equipment. "Rockville, made by drunk's"

EMF hat, drink holder, shirt and key chains.... dang you started representing hard at the end lmao. Can I join your squad? You make it look gangsta! We can pull up on Rockville right now and shake their building to the ground, I make the tracks and you bring the Boom lmao
Love the video and thanks for sharing!!!
I've purchased 4 Rockville products from Amazon, all refurbished and all products exceeded my expectations
I knew Rockville was smoking Rocks. The way it exhaled that Smoke. #Crackville
Methville
My friend had 2 rockville 15s. Pushing literally 2000 watts to them. 1000 per sub. Set with the correct tools. The subs caught fire and burned his car and everything inside it after an hour of playing. The setup was done correctly. He had the same setup prior to the rockville subs and was running them for a few months. The only thing changed was the rockville subs were put in. Paralleled at 1 ohm final impedence.
Then it was not installed correctly,
Any one experienced can hear the subwoofer at its max lol.
Scosche is worse
Apparently all that Rockville knows is imported beer...
These videos on youtube are starting to get really fun guys.
Sounds like Chinese translated. I’m sure it’s black aluminum formers with ofc wire. Either way it’s a junk sub that could’ve been a great bargain if they changed a few things.
Yea that what I said black aluminum former with ofc windings
Reminded me of the cool professor; we had fun and definitely learned something. This is a historic moment for car audio. There are those with the equipment to verify the quality of their purchases and share it with those who are at the mercy of a company. Those who say the hobby is loosing steam most live under a rock. Keep up the good work my friend and God bless. P.S. those 3 thumbs down must work for rockville.
Damn bro! You had a Rockville sub shipped to your front door!? I hope none of your neighbors saw that! LOL!
@EMF are you subliminally trying to get me to want one of those hats at the end with the color change?? No , well it worked! Lol enjoy your videos and I'm glad I came across you keep up the awesome work!!
Not to mention emf builds some of the most bad ass subs you can buy.
240c is about 350f. 🔥 they were freaking out when the sa12 was warming up over 100f
I just noticed I said 350. I was trying to do quick math in my head while watching the video. I think I meant about 450. 464 is crazy hot. I’d think the paper cone would start smoking at that temp. Lol.
Maybe they meant farenheit, instead of Celsius , its still junk sub
@@michaelwhouse46 paper burns at 451°F. It would most definitely be on fire.
I wonder if Rockville or audio savings has any correlation with rock wood from back n the day
Rock wood is American HiFi out of California
Don't forget Kenford!
But you keep trying to make me seem like I don't know wat I'm talking about any of this..I've always supported you and I never acted like an ass whatsoever so u don't need to do that
LOL, great low-key way to subliminally show off your merch at the end.
I laughed out loud when I heard "black glue matters" 🤣😂🤣😂🖤
Youer insensitive to blm!..... But damn your comment is funny😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks.
I could probably do an entire Tech Stuff Tuesday video on that, which would be a good topic for next week, considering.
Here it comes can't wait, lmao cea rated made in USA
So what I learned is on around 300 to 500 watts this subs good to go and sounds good as well. So know this going in and you're golden. Still not bad for just over 100 bucks. 🤷♂️👍
"Here we meet again in a non-threatening voice" Love that shit brother LMFAO! KEEP ON KEEPING ON
Another video, that was well put together. All the facts were laid out, then tested.
@Rockvilleaudio, Where you at? Nothing to say? lmao
Remember guys this is a cheap subwoofer manufacture trying to step up their game. No one should be upset about this if anything it helps the guys that can’t afford the pro stuff and it still sounds good so my hat goes off to them as a very reasonably price speaker manufacture to go the extra mile even if it’s not perfect.
dude please do the same test on the rockville destroyer sub
I wish Sean would stay with EMF. I liked the guy and his videos. Very informative and a straight shooter.
I bet Sean could rebuild that bastard into something awesome.
I think they meant black aluminum former the wire is ofc.
I thought this too. It still means they aren't very involved in the whole process of designing, making, testing, and doing the paperwork. It all sounds like Chinese something.
The wire is CCA, the former is cardboard.
I'm happy I didnt settle for them...
My question for you is:
On a DVC sub...
6 gauge speaker wire split to 10 gauge per lead(+/-)
Didnt know if jumping the basket would create a split second difference in signal , changing the characteristics of the sub.. if one coil is wired and a jumper run off to other vc...
all my sub wiring is symmetrical and equal in length from amps to speaker terminals...
Oh... love the videos!👍
@@one4chuckantel You could run 12 gauge speaker wire and jump every coil off it in a chain and you wouldn't hear a difference.
@@EMFAudio thank you for your time...
Well I'm just glad you exposed their lack of knowledge misleading customers just to make a quick buck
What a amazing test with incredible detail.. The amount of work and years of experience shine in this video. Too bad you have a legit business to run.. We need more people doing test like this on other brands but who knows.. Rockville should take you up on that r&d testing. They love your subs apparently.. Thanks for these EMF!
You might notice a few different shirts, it's because I recorded footage over 4 days. Videos like this take enormous amounts of time to create.
@@EMFAudio My favorite was the ending with a new EMF item showing up in each screen cut. Those soothing talks always get me dien laughing..
@@EMFAudio and man we truly appreciate the time you took!!!
I loved the changes yo the hat and beercozy.
To address the team at Rockville I tend to think there in it for the job meaning there not true audio lovers. I understand as a company you gotta make money but I see the companies who succeed in this industry are guys who are in love with this industry. I loved the video. I thought the sub would let go around 600 watts on a tone. I still am left wondering if they will make changes or continue with this farce. Next we will see there boxes are cea rated.
In the live stream they talked about doing an "SPL rating" when nobody is using them for SPL and they're missing the point all together.
You know Rockville will continue this K9 dick dance. They are in too deep now. They fucked up and now have to stand by subwoofers that were apparently not tested correctly before release. The refunds have to be epic scale.
10:23 "failed under rated power" was the death knell for this entire brand. They have been exposed. Thanks for this viddy, I had never thought of some of your points. Two thumbs up
Lmao u will never get a t shirt
I honestly didn't think he wanted one or maybe to try and put out the fire from the stinkwoofer lol
I just recently got back into car audio (been away since late 90s, shot has changed!) the 1st thing I heard was Rockville was junk. I now know why. thanks for the video super informative. I'm not buying this junk but what would be a "safe" # to run these at? I'm thinking 400w RMS
I think 600 watts would probably be safe on them.
Lol, good god who wrote that crap??!! 😂😭ROFL Thank God 🙌 I never bought one!! How do you build a "black aluminum coil made out of OFC"???????? Lol, love it. I can't believe people don't see this stuff instantly. I guess they're aiming for the beginner bassheads!

the petty and shameless brand plug was the best part.. going to your website now
I loved every second of this vid man thanks for your time EMF and well done on a stand up analysis and breakdown of the speaker ...in a nutshell they're crap 😃😂😃😃😃
Could you make a video about building the k9 the right way. Is there anyway you could recone and recoil it
I could do that, I won't do that. It's not worth it. I couldn't sell it for what it cost at that point.
I need to sell my hcca and recone kit and buy some emf audio.
Sell it to me. On the cheap of coarse.
Big D does the true test of power. Longevity is another issue. The rockville subs will run 2000 watts for a spl 15 second run so I guess technically they pass .
You mean a burp, which means nothing for power handling? Do you listen for 15 seconds at a time?
I would like to see the destroyer
Luv the shameless merch plug at the end while never missing a beat during the conclusion 😂😂😂
He should rebuild it and show them how it's done
So true .as he said they nt paying him l
I have been thinking the same thing for months!!!
Rockville may as well have made a video lighting them selves on fire. Because they committed suicide. I need to get some EMF!
EMF THE SUB WHISPERER. I hope one day to learn as much about subs as you know my friend I could listen to you allday lmao.
Double Dare you to do more flea market tests.
The last few minutes look like they were filmed as someone sat at the character select screen and customized their avatar. 😁
Brilliant....Relaxing AND informative. Good job calling them on their nonsense. Rockville Guys are business students trying to sell an inferior product to some bassheads who wont stand for their subs Fuckery. #emfratingstandard
you are cracking me up.your demeanor and matter of factness is awesome. i buying one or two asap. what amp do you have to feed them?
CEA ratings mean ..

Great. Video was awesome wish UD bring back test Tuesday.
I can't believe they raised the price on these they should put it back to their 114$ and take away how much they raised the price haha
They're still $114 on their website, I bought at $114 through Amazon, not sure where you're seeing it higher.
EMF Audio that's crazy! They lowered the price I haven't check it in like a month but for a month these were higher in price! Maybe they came to their senses
i say $90 to $115 is reasonable if the sub was rated 300watts RMS & 800watts peak
Erik Britz true
@@jOhnVd0e yes i'd be curious if someone made a custom setup using the Rockville subs and seeing if a great or decent system is possible example
Amp: 2X Orion XTR 2500.1's 3000watts@1ohm(tested by BigDwiz) each.
That’s why you don’t buy junky rockville
Wait....was that bottle with the emf koozie on it there before?
That depends, when it was red or when it was white?

That's exactly right man . A design that is not great but could be. Rockville, take your time and do it right. Emf audio, along with other audio brands have put in the wrench time. CEA compliance is not working in the standards these days cause you can have the test fixed to say anything. So how is the customer going to know if the audio equipment will do what is state on the product information form. There are a lot of companies making claims that are not true with the products they sale. If you are going to jump into the audio world. You had better put you products where your numbers are. They will test. People just want true specs.
If a company uses "beautiful" in their own description, stay away
This is a lot of work to call a spade a spade 🤭 but I enjoy it. Also, let's not forget Rockville wouldn't get any smoke if they just had ratings that made sense. It seems to still work for them, look at their ratings on Amazon. I guess going with the "Cheap Chinese nonsense! with *insert large number here*" approach still works.
i will NOT use this subs ever even if i get them for free
Thanks for putting the work into exposing them trying to lie to us .. good work man 🙂
Rockville is a freakn joke dont buy it or any of it lmfao
So basically rockville subs might take that 1000watt cea rating but only with normal music not heavy bass stuff or you risk blowing it so there stuff is good for probly 70% of the car stereo market but not for the serious audiophile. Thanks for all your work on this Sean!!!! My little girl now want me to get her the pink emf hat when i order her lowballer for her civic lol
Great video, very informative and helps those with limited knowledge gain more knowledge. Also the dude in the middle of the rockville video has his head down like he was embarrassed to be on the video.
He was reading comments, looking for questions I believe. There weren't too many questions being asked.
I love that your hat suddenly turned Pink !!!!!
24:00 I that's pink noise not white noise. I STILL WANT AN ERMAHGERD 12
I know this is old now but I'm just coming across it and I'm curious, anybody know if sundown has answered the video Rockville did on their sub?
The Rockville employees had a bunch of opened beers scattered around them in their video. So they're drunk. I'm not mad now knowing that they're simply drunk while designing and testing their equipment. "Rockville, made by drunk's"
I think you're wrong. They don't design or test anything 😁
can I use this temperature measurement section for my video? on my local language?
Of course!
