If I end up doing the 3 12” I want to send them to you for some upgrades first, especially since I bought them from Offerup each separately. But if the 2 15” will sound better and give me more bass I’ll just do them as is. Please give me your input as it’s very valued. Thank you 🙏
Have you guys heard of lord of bass? Looks like similar construction at a very good price. I saw these right after I ordered my Dayton MX12-22 and was passed cuz it was only $30 more and has better power handling and he sells recone and spider kits cheap.

I think I have a hifonics Olympus woofer that needs new coils how much would something like this run me? I just chucked it in the shed for the magnets but I think the cone and surround are still good might need terminals also....
There is only so much you can do with a given motor design and coil size. The only way to increase power handling is to use a higher temperature coil, which we typically do because we use 500 degree coils where much of what we recone is a 280 degree coil.
I have a new Pro audio subwoofer 18" it has slapping sound when i press the dust cap while power off there is no rubbing against the coil i tried to play 5Hz in my sub and there is slapping noise but when i hold the tinsel lead the noise disappears I only here the noise when I do free air but inside the box the bass is loud and I cannot hear the possible tinsel lead slap. What should I do with my subwoofer ?
Would you recommend using flux to solder the leads and to the terminals? Or is it really not needed? Lol nevermind it looks like you used some from that little bottle.

In a time where nothing is on time, I won't give a time. If I put a date on it, the day after will be full of messages asking why it's not already installed in their car if it's not delivered by that date. On Lowballers I tried to put a date on them within 3 expected days of shipping them and it ended up being another 3 weeks.
I would love to know if I wanted my W712 anniversary edition to handle more power what would it take to do so they are rated at 1000 rms but I want it to get up into the competition level ratings! Is that possible if I send it to you?
R starters they are called “button heads” and the only application they should be used in is as a “trim” fastener only. There is a reason for that design and a reason why they should only be used to “button” up sheet metal trims. For one the wrench size is always one size smaller than a typical socket head which is what would be proper for that application. Being that the wrench size is one smaller and the walls much thinner you cannot torque those down tight at all or you will most definitely do with a button head screw. That is probably what happened there and so on maybe had to get drilled out. I see button heads used improperly all the time because either they are cheaper ? Or , it’s all that was available. But his forbid you have to be the guy that encounters one improperly torqued down and have to drill one out 😆👍✌️
I posted an add on Facebook up here in Maine (mid coast) trying to buy some blown up performance subs (but if cheap enough even budget subs just to salvage the ferrite to combine the slugs to build some custom motors but have had zero results... Which surprises me yeah some people will repair blown subs but a lot are intimidated by re cones and here in Maine not a ton of options and will just toss it aside and buy new, you would think they would want to re coupe some of there original investment. But at least mid coast Maine is just so not a hot spot for car audio it seems damn near non existent, I never see bumping systems around even close to mine and it slaps pretty good but its not a crazy extream system, I've tried to find someone with an SPL meter up here to test my system now and after my upgrade but no luck with that either. Do you know of anyone here willing to Meter a system in Maine?
All '05 "small gap". Only 200 big gaps were made, the 3 I ever had I sold to Andre in The Bronx and he shipped a lot of those motors out to Eastern Europe. Big gap "'02 sig" has a much wider pole vent and the slugs stick out a little bit more from the top plate. AFAIK there's 4 '05 motors up here. One in my F250 and 3 in my brother's Civic which lives in my driveway. Not to be confused with the neo motors. 50 of those were made, I own 8 and Rooney has 1 that he got from John at T3.
There is no instance where spiders are "for show", any spider would effect compliance. There IS a purpose for spaced spiders, which is why the Banhammer line uses them.

Hey I just had a quick question. Someone in my area is offering an old school orion hcca 12 for only 5 dollars. The catch is that it's blown, but I was wondering if it may be worth looking into?
It’s funny that sub rebuild vids or not popular but demo vids are. I guess more people care about “show” not how stuff works and learning that is not about BRANDS.
What happened to that company is Mike had serious health problems and had to get out of car audio. He has dipped his toe back in a little bit in the last 10 years but he definitely didn't have the ability to do it like he did in the old days nor the motivation. I'm almost certain he has passed away in the last couple years. He was in extremely poor health the last time I spoke with him awaiting surgery and not optimistic on any improvement. This is indeed a risk of buying audio from a 1 man operation (like EMF). If tragedy befalls the owner/operator you're probably going to be SOL if he doesn't have children or some other successor ready to take the reigns if something happens to him. Anyway, nice looking build. Tell your customer to throw that in 3 cubic feet tuned to 36hz and he will be very happy.
I think there is more to that story than you know. You don't owe people tens of thousands of dollars and get your life threatened over all the subs you didn't deliver and suddenly have cash to refund when people show up to your house because you got sick. I'm not sure what leads you to believe EMF is a 1 man operation either. 3 cu. ft for a 12" is completely wrong, and the coil and suspension used is different than stock anyway.
@@EMFAudio All I know is Mike always did right by me, he was battling heart troubles and underwent several surgeries when I knew him and to the best of my knowledge is dead now. May well could have been something else went down when he dropped out of the scene. Wouldn't be the first nor last such story in this business. I don't know who works with you or for you, the point is that EMF isn't Rockford Fosgate which is still going 40 years after the founder retired. I'm not even sure Sundown could really recover if Jacob disappeared (though at least they'd probably be able to settle accounts). Not knocking small shops, I prefer to do business with them because they do things that multinationals can't or won't and I get more personal service, but I understand the tradeoff. As far as box, yes, 05 sig 12" wants 3 cubic feet. That's with every coil and regardless of suspension. I've been building these motors for about 10 years now and have done extensive testing with 12" and 15" sizes with a wide variety of soft parts in addition to taking advice from Mike and DB-Drag veterans that competed with those subs. You didn't even know what this motor was before you posted the first video. Trust me on this one. 3 cube mid 30hz tuning on a 12" with medium stiff suspension will play extremely well in vehicle for music.
@@hispls Designing subs and building hundreds of variants I can tell you the motor doesn't dictate the box volume. You even just specified the type of suspension to use that volume, proving a different suspension would be different.
@@EMFAudio Every way you build these they perform well in a large box. Build philosophy on suspension is to build it just stiff enough to not break with whatever power you want to throw into it as going stiffer sacrifices efficiency and musicality. These aren't meant to be music subs, they're meant to be SPL subs but it just so happens that with soft-ish suspension 12s and 15s can be made to sound pretty good for music. Again, I'm just going by what Shocker Mike and the old Team Fusion told me, and 11 years of my own experience building and testing this exact motor, but I'm sure the guy who didn't know what that motor was last week knows best.
@@hispls Not knowing what name is on a motor doesn't change what the motor is. The motor isn't a musical motor, it's noisy. Stiffer suspension literally makes it more efficient, t/s parameters show that (to a point, then Qts goes up because the motor isn't strong enough). Build philosophy for SPL is very different than musical, this isn't an SPL build. But what do I know, I just have patents on speaker design and design complete subs from the motor to the final product and don't just go off what other people say.
SPL didn’t become big until the turn of the millennium. Before that it was about how low you can go. But the industry peaked and manufacturers had wished they’d done things different and could have secured more profits. So what they did (through SPL) is took the market back to the late 80’s. And now they in essence get to start over and add those products they wished they’d done things had implemented back then. Products you do not need if you know the secrets from that era. That is a big reason there is so much confusion over band pass enclosures and class “D” amplifiers. Leaving the average bass head constantly in search of that low he or she is looking for. Back in my day it was never about decibels. The competitions were judged on who can hit the lowest frequency. Today we are being sold over decorated Dj loudspeakers and then guys are trying to get them down low. Never happen, I can take a 50 dollar pioneer, the right amount and box and hear me coming down the block way before one of these $1k subs will. But that was the problem and why the markets changed. The art was perfected and it was done cheap. Bad for business so it got scrambled and now we have this mess called spl to unscramble. Most of these newer sound “gurus” are not fans of the band pass because they either do not know the formula, the set up to build ir they are being payed to make videos by a manufacturer that wants the band pass to stay in the closet so they can sell “spl”….👍

Thanks!
Nah not at all.. just make sure it’s clean and free of debris.
Does emf sent soft parts? I need some for my lanzar Optidrive 10ks I traded them for my team fi's 18s. Let me know @emf audio
Also do you have tc 5400s motors?
Sometimes we do, we've got some things in the yard sale.
Nice to see another vid thanks!
What brand of glue? Also do you use epoxy in the middle after the CA?
The CA glue is from Palm Labs. Epoxy is an adhesive, as is CA, so you would use one or the other.
Hey i have 2 12" JL Audio W3 - how much would you charge me to get them fix?
Whats the song at 9:14
Thanks for posting this video 👍
You probably know this but thought id pass it on anyway- I just found this Pierce Audio, and they are making sub parts in house USA. I remember you saying you lost your machinist for yolo parts, maybe these guys can help. They are making magnets in house, cones, spyders, etc.
I bet you'd be surprised to find out what they aren't making in house, and maybe even claiming to. Historically they have "made in USA" subs with motors that are off the shelf from China, along with every other part from China.
@@EMFAudio I dont know but on their website they say they left China and tooled up to make as much as possible in house. Including magnets, cones, spyders etc. I still like my China Lowballers! lol. Thanks for replying!

Hey sean I know you’re a busy man but I have a question. I have 3 12” dual 4 banhammers & 2 banhammer 15 dual 2. The car is a 2019 accord. Which should I put in to be louder??? If I end up doing the 3 12” I want to send them to you for some upgrades first, especially since I bought them from Offerup each separately. But if the 2 15” will sound better and give me more bass I’ll just do them as is. Please give me your input as it’s very valued. Thank you 🙏
It will be a challenge to fit both 15's or 3 12's in that trunk simply because of size limitations. I'd say your best bet is probably 2 12's.
@@EMFAudio I appreciate you, thanks for the input 💪🏾💪🏾
Have you guys heard of lord of bass? Looks like similar construction at a very good price. I saw these right after I ordered my Dayton MX12-22 and was passed cuz it was only $30 more and has better power handling and he sells recone and spider kits cheap.
This motor is over 15 years old.
looks like fixmyspeaker parts to me.
"Make it better." Love it. Kudus from Portugal.👍😎
Good work man.
Hey EMF Audio, can you rebuild my JL Audio W6V.2’s. They are 12’s, I’ve had a problem finding coils and dust caps. Do you have parts there on hand?
We don't keep JL parts on hand, rarely recone them.
@@EMFAudio is there a way to use other parts, perhaps something you have there already? Or do they have to be w6 specific?
Do you use E6000 on the surround instead of CA glue so it will be more flexible?
CA can dry out foam which can make it delaminate. If it's thin enough it can absorb before it adheres. E6000 just does a better job, consistently.
@@EMFAudio that definitely makes sense. Thanks for the great info on all your videos. I've reconed 2 subs so far and both turned out perfect from following you step by step.
What frame was on this?
I think I have a hifonics Olympus woofer that needs new coils how much would something like this run me? I just chucked it in the shed for the magnets but I think the cone and surround are still good might need terminals also....
The only reusable parts would be the motor, basket, and terminals. Everything else would have to be replaced.
I wonder who reconed this sub lol 😂
I have two 18s like these that I bought blown, need your services!!!!
How much to customize a sundown SArev3 15? The basket n motor is already assembled, I would love a higher rms n watts rating🙏🏾
There is only so much you can do with a given motor design and coil size. The only way to increase power handling is to use a higher temperature coil, which we typically do because we use 500 degree coils where much of what we recone is a 280 degree coil.
@@EMFAudio I gotcha. I need a recone with whatever parts will work for it.

Good work bro but make sure u blow out the coil b4 puttin on the dust cap
That's the wrong order of operations. At that point it's too late. You blow out the gap before the coil is even put in, which I did.
those bolts look stainless
what glue do you use for the cone and voice coil??
E6000. Comes in black or clear. Strong as hell. Dries like rubber. Awesome stuff, any hardware store, Walmart etc. Easy to find.
I have a massive audio hippo152 that I would loved rebuilt. How much would you charge to rebuild. I know you said factor in shipping
3" coil 15's are usually around $215.
Would you recommend using flux to solder the leads and to the terminals? Or is it really not needed? Lol nevermind it looks like you used some from that little bottle.
Some leads need it, others don't. This is one of those instances it's needed.
Nice work no doubt. Evry time i get a notification from emf i say to my self hopefully hes going to mention the realist date or off the hammers v2s, how close is the date

The w7 12” can fit a 4layer voice coil and a TI frame with a 10” spider it will handle more in every way and sound amazing.
Excuse me! Can I buy a old like that for rebuild it, 🙏!
What do you use to laminate spiders together?
CA glue, only on the outside edges.

How to fix coil rubbing on a sub bro

I’ve seen a few shocker sig motors up here in Maine. 4-6 of them. Not sure which gap they were
They're originally more common in the northeast and Midwest as they originated in Ohio.
@@95Sn95 well I’m in central Maine. I have a termlab meter.

I loved watching this.
Is it typical on 12" spiders to use just one, it seems super stuff for just one 2 feels practically solid....
you mean like two separate spiders? upper and lower? i've heard the top spider is just for show, that the bottom one does most of the work
It's not just 1, just like I said in this very video it's a pack of them.
There is no instance where spiders are "for show", any spider would effect compliance. There IS a purpose for spaced spiders, which is why the Banhammer line uses them.

@@EMFAudio
All I know is Mike always did right by me, he was battling heart troubles and underwent several surgeries when I knew him and to the best of my knowledge is dead now.
@@EMFAudio
Every way you build these they perform well in a large box.
Why didn't you tell everyone that it's a Sundown basket ?
NICE!!!
You should've cleaned sanded off the top plate before you started to rebuild it ...
The top plate wasn't even painted at the mating surface, not that paint would change anything anyway.
