    After watching your channel I decided to attempt a rebuild of a dual 1ohm ssa icon 15 sub.
    Made it a dual 4 ohm and it is even better then the icon . I did this for home use on a plate amp for theater use and it is wonderful.
    My very first sub build
    Thank you for your helpful videos

    If a small percent of people with aftermarket car audio watch car audio RUclips vids, then a small percent of those watch vids for troubleshooting and research on how to diagnose their problems with their gear and decide if they are going to fix it or pay someone, then a small percent of those interested to Diy watch content of people actually explaining the process to Diy, then a small percent of those actually do the diy. Then a very small percentage of car audio enthusiasts watch vids like these just because we know what it takes to do this properly and we appreciate anyone with solid experience on the subject willing to give up their time to share their craft and passion to help others. I’m guessing the later percentage of people is extremely small, but I imagine they give the best feedback, usually watch the majority of the content and let you know when it’s a good upload. 👍🏽👍🏽 man. Solid vid. You might have just convinced me to buy some gear from you to support a fellow enthusiast. I’ll go check out the site and see what I can swing with out the wifey getting too mad on my obsession with buying more gear when......, “There’s a shit ton of it in the garage that’s doing what, ya nothing” lol. I love her Though😂

    A 100 watt Weller will solder those leads without torching the spider(s).
    I solder my crimp connects on the 12v side with a torch, then heat shrink them.
    I'm just OCD when it comes to soldering, I guess.

    31:00 No complaints on the soldering job, but you said it's not possible to soak solder all the way through without a torch. Now, I do not know what's the heat tolerance of the spider and such, but if you have a big enough iron with enough heat capacity, it's no problem to soak solder all the way through those thick wires. Does it matter? Maybe, maybe not. But the way you solder them obviously works well enough, and thats what matters. :)

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад

      I wouldn't feel comfortable saturating heat that much with a soldering iron. It would disperse through the leads extremely fast and the wire at a much slower rate. You could essentially burn the leads before heating through the wire entirely.

    • @Skauber
      @Skauber 4 года назад

      Yeah, I'm not too familiar with your particular application, just pointed out that soaking heavy gauge wires with solder isn't too difficult with enough heat capacity on the iron, but obviously you have to adapt to the specific leads and materials around so you don't burn stuff.

    im going to attempt to re-wind my voice coil for my 10 inch boss phantom 2100 watts 2 ohm. what gauge wire should i get? i measured it with my calipers and i get .35 mm's. i found some 32 gauge coated copper magnet wire on amazon. was thinking that would work?. my first attempt at re-wining. a guy crapped me on the speakers. and i trusted him.. i got the speakers apart without having to cut anything. so gonna re-use everything i possibly can

    Can you add more magnets to make the coil taller and can adding a thicker surround and a thicker spider increase the amount of excursion the subwoofer has when building a subwoofer

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад +1

      The coil is taller by making the coil taller, it has nothing to do with the magnets. A thicker surround and thicker (stiffer) spiders could REDUCE the amount of excursion a sub has. If the motor isn't strong enough to drive the coil for the suspension stiffness, it won't move as much.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад

      That is a long running debate. Some claim it's louder but nobody has supplied supporting evidence to prove so that I'm aware of. In the case of this sub, the owner wants to avoid breaking terminals installing it and the leads are long enough to connect to bolts inside the box. Only in the most exaggerated cases could there be some tenths to be gained, like over 20,000 watts, MIGHT gain a few tenths.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад

      In more cases than not, having excessive adhesive is just a waste of adhesive. I don't generally try to find how how little adhesive can be used. I make a best guess (which isn't a ton) and if there is an issue I adjust. Having enough to bond the entire surface area is my starting point.

    Every single day. I am SO happy that America still has people here that build stuff right in our own backyard. I know it can be expensive. Sure. But each and every time I buy a tool, or item I know I'm going to have for the long run? Can't go wrong with a man or women who really knows their stuff & takes great pride, time and effort in what they do.
    Watching this is like watching one of the masters of the kitchen make a great Desert. Its not just taste (or in this case sound) but its the artistry that goes behind it that makes it so much more fulfilling. Kind of like when a Barista makes art work with the creme' in your coffee.
    You can tell he enjoys what he does and its more like a conversation at a Bar or BBQ rather then some forced or semi scripted Boogle about today's fish that is going to turn on the menu. It really is enjoyable to watch and listen too. I wish he would get a better Microphone like a Newman however. The Audio recording could use more air or space. It seems a bit compressed for my taste. Course, not many listen to this on a High end system. So I'm in the minority.
    Again, thank you for the great content and its a pleasure to watch. Great way to relax after a long hard day.
    Coffee in hand, and a cigar. What a wonderful way to wind down the evening.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад +1

      The recording level is a bit hot with that mic and I have since gotten a new one so I don't have a separate track to sync but I'm working out quirks with noise on that one. I do think you have a skewed idea about things made in America though. Americans make garbage too, Americans have some of the worst work ethics and many jobs have high turnover because they think they're too good for the job so you never get experienced people in a position. A good product is about WHO made it, not where it's made.

    First time subscriber from New Jersey I really like the way that you rebuild the subwoofer to your specifications♡♡ I have some American Bass 10 inch subwoofers in one of my videos and was wondering if they do go one day if there is a recone kit possible.. might send you the work or might attempt it myself I specialize in electrical Diagnostics and a little bit OCD on things..♡♡♡ Tom from new Jersey stay safe and healthy..SPL can't get us sick just people... going to check out your other videos♡♡♡

      To recone that we'd have to have them in house, which also means shipping costs both ways.

    That's a good amount of neo on there. It's a shame the motor force isn't what it should be.

      It goes to show, a strong motor isn't necessarily a big motor, and big motor (or fancy motor) isn't necessarily a good motor.

    Incoming complaint, but only because you asked (31:30) - did you account for the extra mass you added when you used like 6lbs of solder?!?

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад +1

      The mass on the leads under the dustcap really isn't that much. The solder on the leads at the basket isn't part of moving mass.

    Would a btl be half as strong as this sub? or is it just a bad design

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 года назад

      I don't know what the FEA analysis would look like exactly, I would think from experience that it wouldn't be half but I wouldn't rule it out. If it was in fact half, a Lowballer would be stronger.

    One more thing if all subwoofers and speakers were built this way this much attention to detail that would be no more rebuilds unless somebody did not know how to properly play one of these good job.
