Restoring Sailboat Teak (Ep73) | Small Sailboat Restoration

- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- This episode I'm restoring sailboat teak from the interior of my Skipper 20 pocket sailboat. When you restore an old sailboat, its important to refinish the teak wood. My teak refinishing process using Sikens Cetol Marine Finish is quick and easy and lasts many months, sometimes more than a year. This is the easiest way to refinish boat teak.

I wish there would be more video´s like this. Thank You. To the point, with excellent comment and tips showing how to do such a job. No beating around the bush. Just excellent Many thanks

Nice work and excellent execution!
Thank you Russell😁👍
Good work again Joe. Sikkens is a great product. I often use 3M pads for scuffing between coats---they have a product for that purpose--although it doesn't look as good as using 220, there's a lot less cleanup. Maybe it was urban legend but I understand years ago Tiara was persnickety enough to require all the wood in a given boat had to come from the same tree--IMHO that's overkill. It's a boat and not a crime if every piece doesn't match. Your Skipper 23 looks interesting.
Thanks Joe😁👍You’re going to love this project
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing Your expertise. I am looking to restore the teak benches on my sailboat, but I am not sure if making it with Cetol won't make it too slippery. Do You have any advice for that?
Welcome aboard 👍😁 It won’t be too slippery😂🤣the smoothness of the surface is directly related to how smooth you sand it. Follow my instructions. Don’t worry you’re going to love it 😊
All the steps are required to get great looking results for the effort.
😁👍
I removed my teak handrails and installed stainless steel
Me too 👍😁

Thanks for the good advice 🎉however: 22:07 i collect leftovers with a sponge instead and then apply it too😉
Thank you for the comment 🐙

Dave you are The Man! Thanks so much
Nice enough for me, but have you ever considered wood bleach? It might offer you answers on problem peices in matching wood. John's Furnature Repair and a lot of other channels have covered this,
Thank you for the comment 👍. But not mixing and matching different species like mahogany and teak. This process is about fast and easy long term and easily repairable 😁
sweet
wery impresive!!!

How about using teak oil? Trying to avoid how varnish and cetol chip off
I hear this suggestion a lot 🥸Teak oil does nothing to address the texture of the wood over time and just prolongs the inevitable cracking and splitting. 🐙In addition teak oil is not a viable solution for wood that has already weathered or mix matched. 👎Wood that has weathered and already turned gray with exposed grain cannot be restored with teak oil. 👎
@@motorcityboatwerks thank you for your advice 👍
