@@sjappiyah4071 except that god apparently has total power over human action or even his own feelings, so it's not really that impressive as a statement
A friend of mine, as an attack on my belief, said something to the tune of, "God sacrifices himself to himself to save mankind from himself." My reply was, "To paraphrase Jean-Luc Picard, 'What you say with irony, I say with conviction.'" I watched a video a few days ago by David Wood, where he addressed this issue from a different direction. He noted how in ancient days, the pagans believed that the way to curry favor with God was to sacrifice what was most precious to them, culminating with sacrificing their children to Moloch. Then along comes Abraham, and God tells him to sacrifice his only son to Him. Same story, or so it would seem. But at the last minute, God tells him to stop, and says that He Himself will provide a sacrificial Lamb. In other words, God doesn't want us sacrificing our sons to Him; He sacrificed His Son for us instead. He flipped the understanding of the ancient pagans on its head.
@@SoRunThatYeMayObtain - I don’t believe that it is obvious. The 3rd Century theologian Origen developed a way of understanding the Scriptures. He perceived that not all parts of the Bible should be understood the same way; he distinguished between various “senses” of Scripture as literal, moral, anagogical and allegorical. The allegorical sense looks beyond the most obvious reading to illuminate some greater spiritual truth - one story which could fall in that category is the story of Abraham’s sacrifice. While there are some Christians today who take an almost entirely literalist interpretation of the entire Bible, that is a fairly new development and is well outside how scripture was broadly understood for most of church history. As a Christian, in the specific case of the story of Abraham and Isaac - if I’m asked if I believe it literally happened my response would be “I don’t know, and I don’t care”. Someone could provide compelling evidence either way, and it still would not impact or influence an allegorical understanding of the story.
@@MrCusefan44 Well, at least for me, Jesus mentioned things that happened in the OT and it seems to me he saw the flood as something that really happened. And with Paul, same goes for Abraham sacrificing Isaac. They saw it something that really happened. But I would be happy to be taught by others. I don't really know a lot.
@@SoRunThatYeMayObtain - “Seems to me” is the key phrase in your comment. Go back, reread the passages you are referencing, and ask yourself what would eliminate an allegorical interpretation. As a non-Biblical example, I’ve listened to comparisons of Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Endgame to Christ’s sacrifice where - based solely on a written transcript of the commentary - you could not tell if the speaker honestly believed Iron Man existed. But a typical reader is going to bring outside context - it’s a movie, movies aren’t real, etc to conclude the speaker is aware Tony Stark/Iron Man are fictional characters. That’s appropriate in the case of Iron Man - but not appropriate in the context of Biblical exegesis. How are you concluding that Jesus believed Abraham literally believed the story with Issac? It almost certainly runs into the same issue atheists point out about Jesus believing a mustard seed is the smallest seed in the world - and literalists have to create increasingly unlikely interpretations to counter atheist arguments. The better argument is that we were given both scripture and tradition, and tradition never accepted a solely literalist interpretation. But accepting that would start many down the road of becoming Catholic, which is completely unacceptable - much better to hold fast to a newer Biblical view of literal exegesis which means atheist objections are valid. “Seems to me” is irrelevant - how did it seem to the church, and what traditions have been passed down. If “seems to me” contradicts that - you’re wrong, plain and simple.

To all who don't believe: God exists. I used to be agnostic and mentally mock religious people. But when I was going through difficulties (personal insecurities), God spoke into my heart and helped me. And the love I felt in my heart was the greatest feeling in the world. A lot of people don’t like the crucifix because it they say that Christ isn’t on the cross anymore (which is true, but it doesn’t mean we can’t have a statue) but mainly because they say it was humiliating for him at the time. Greetings from Indonesia. Been subscribed to your channel for quite a while, i think this is the most profound video by far.. Keep inspiring in Christ! May our Lord and saviour always bless you, Mr Jones!
I have to begin by saying that, im not a christian. Now that this is out of the way... Theres a deeper meaning behind the crucifixion of Christ than most atheists come out with and i have to point out that, even many christians. Most anti or pro fanatics against or for christianity quote bible verses completely out of context for their own personal goals. Problem with Bible is that, reading it and understanding it are two different things. For starters, its already written in a form that is quite difficult to read and second, it mostly contains stories and to understand meaning in these stories you have to read the entire story and understand it, not to quote single verses out of it that may support your narrative! When it comes to crucifixtion of Christ, its so much more than just ''he died for our sins''. It depicts a story of a loving god who manifests himself in a flesh and takes part in our mortal suffering. It makes it possible for him to forgive our sins without being unjust against some other who may have been a victim of said sin as he suffered and died himself for that sin. Anyway, wheather you whole heartedly want to believe it or not, its all up to you. Im not here with wild claims about what is right and what is wrong!
This is the God I serve, He provides me infinite love, infinite grace, provided for me as an orphan, pulled me out of the pit and give me a firm place to stand, broke my chains of slavery to addiction. Yes, I love Jesus Christ!
The fact that satan puts so much effort trying to mock and debunk God and Christianity tells you everything you need to know. I'm sure he's not putting much effort into those people out there worshipping trees or waves or whatever other ridiculous things some people do. Why? Because they're not a threat to ol' satan. Those people are already nonbelievers.
I'm in tears, Sir. What a beautiful and succinct picture of our desperate need, and His complete fulfillment for us. Thank you Jesus that because of your work on the cross...mercy has triumphed over judgement.

IP one moment: "If the central message of Christianity is so absurd, why did it not quickly die out?" IP the next moment: "Humans are irrational and absurd." Me: there, you answered your first question.
Not really, Christianity was just about the primary thing attempting to pull people out of the pit of absurdity. Those who refused fell down to non-belief. Absurdity is a choice, but nobody expects you to understand this.
2:50 - 2:37 Love is an emotion that isn’t always rational Feelings aren’t a reliable way to come to truth Do we teach children to act on how they feel or to look beyond their feelings? Child: “I really feel like eating a bowl of ice cream before dinner” Parent: “if you do, you won’t eat a nutritious dinner and just eating ice cream isn’t the sort of fuel your body needs to feel good in the long run” Jesus is ice cream
Love is an emotion that isn't always rational, but does one underlying good: aims to keep those close to you at your best. A father loves their child so much, they want to raise them to live their lives independent. For this to happen, the father teaches the child that crossing the road without looking both ways, doing narcotics, or for the younger folks: eating ice-cream after brushing your teeth, regardless of how tasty ice-cream is, are all bad choices. He can leave you sheltered, but he doesn't, he wants you raised independently, but make rational choices. The father is God. We are His children. You are the ice-cream, daddy tells you it's bad to eat, the irrational choice; you're an ice-cream! :)
That’s become quite unpopular. Nowadays love is just a feeling, and a person’s commitment to another is only as deep and as lasting as the emotion is. Hence why you have people getting divorced for “falling out of love.” Love is a decision and that decision transcends our feelings.

"If the central message of Christianity is so absurd, why did it not quickly die out? why does it continue to grow and it has become the world's largest and influential religion?" Looks at history, anthropology, religions, ideologies and cultures throughout history and modern day... yeah, he is right, absurd ideas always quickly died out and Christianity is the only absurd idea that did not quickly die out. That means there can be no absurd ideas today that have not quickly died out... Oh wait.
Can you explain how an “absurd” idea can become stronger in popularity? What’s your evidence that you can bring from history science and philosophy for it being absurd?
My goodness, you're really so desperate spamming this comment section. You seem troubled. This comment is your weakest one so far. In the meantime, tell me: Church trauma? Strict parents? @@cerebrummaximus3762 Thanks for proving again there is no hate like Christian love. None of the above, loving parents, zero church trauma while I was a Christian. I used to be a Christian, and extremely devout one, until I realized it was not true. I had zero church trauma, in fact the people and the church were my life, I mostly only knew Christians.... until the day I became an agnostic and every single Christian gave their back to me, showing their true nature and colors. Just like you showed, there is a huge us vs them mentality in Christianity. And every single Christian I meet is extremely rude and condescending whenever they realize I am an agnostic atheist. I wish Christianity was true, I wish there was an all loving God, I really do. But the more I look into it the less I believe. Why do you think I am here? I keep looking at apologist videos in case I am wrong. Do you think my comment was weak, well only because I responded to the weak argument that Christianity is true because it is popular and has persisted. Well look at Islam, and how it is projected to surpass Christianity in popularity. Humans have believed in a lot of absurd things, so just because many believe in them doesn't make it true. Look at how many religions there are.
@farrex0 From one agnostic to another, I hope you find the truth you're looking for! Something I realized recently is that in a predominantly (nominally) Christian world, faith can be reduced to a survival strategy. Your experience reminded of that thought 😭

Thank you, thank you, thank you for what you do.
This would only inspire and move someone who is already a Christian. I watched this all the way through, in the high hopes of finding answers, but was met only with mocking contempt for those who find the central Christian message of blood/death atonement difficult and unpalatable (he didn't say anything that would persuade me to not find it unpalatable). He uses the tried and tested missionising tool of psychological blackmail - making someone feel utterly ashamed of not being Christian, which is the same kind of tool that sociopathic manipulators and gaslighters use. I'm sorry, but I couldn't belong to a religion that would resort to such tactics. The entire argument also assumes that no other religion is about love, or can ever have love in it, or is able to make its followers feel loved by God

There is a lot that could be said. But your most obvious issue is that you kept saying everyone else is on the outside when in fact they are on the inside. Supposedly we are all included in the things the god loves. Yet it is only willing to do a single act that some will recognize as love and others won't. And it knows exactly who it'll fail to reach and how to reach them. Yet it doesn't do it.

I grew up Christian and apologetics combined with just observing that the God of the Bible is clearly good and humanity is clearly depraved.. It was easy for me to believe. And idk why God did this.. but one night I was laying in bed and I wasn't sleepy, my back hurt and I was thinking to roll over and reposition, maybe if it didn't hurt I could fall asleep. Right when I was about to roll over, a hand and arm came over my left shoulder and set down on my chest. This hand was on me for like 3 seconds. And the first thing I noticed was my entire body felt like it was filled with blindingly bright light. Like every cell inside and out, blindingly bright. The second thing was the most impressive because it was completely unearthly. It was most similar to the emotion of joy.. It's like a kind of happiness that is somehow permanent,.. it's not conditional. The joy I felt from this experience was like another state of being. "Fullness of Joy" It was so intense that I was kind of intimidated by it. When this hand left, the light went away immediately.. and wild intensity of the joy also left but some warmth from it kind of lingered behind. And the third thing that impressed me.. was when the hand left I reactively said "thankyou!" It just came out of me to say that, I didn't think to say it. It was like I breathed out graditude and it just had to come out, it was effortless. So maybe this just sounds like some Charismatic trying to be more spiritual than everyone else?? I don't go to church, I have no one to impress. I just hope that someone is encouraged by this.. The next life with Jesus, is awesome. Our life now in comparison is inanimate and breathless.. We don't even know what it is like to breathe. And now, that is what Christianity is like to me.. It is trying to convince someone that never breathed.. that oxygen is valuable to them.
When you break out of apologetics, it is amazing. Though this is a mix of apologetics and theology, as well as topical, it is a great reminder of Gods love for us.
The rich philosophy and beauty in this video is beyond words. I do find myself acting over-rational sometimes. Guess this was a wake up call. You've done it again, IP!
So IP's answer to God sacrificing himself to himself is God needed to put on a good show? Isn't that manipulative? Secondly, God didn't pay the ultimate price. Jesus was not annihilated or spent eternity in hell. Jesus had a 3 day nap. Lastly, if Jesus already paid for all sin, then none who don't want it should be annihilated or be in hell. The price is already paid. They are sinless. Everyone at all times are sinless.

So how is it any different then god burning you eternally, for ever. Billions upon trillions of years, no escape. How is that love? “The good thing about North Korea is that you can die. @@benclark4823God created hell not for humans, but for some of His own perfect and sinless angels who have decided to become sinful. Anything related to sin is repulsive to God, just like how two of the same signs of a magnet repulse one another. It just so happens that humans too decided to stray away from Him as well and fall into the pits of hell by covering themselves with sin like pigs being covered by mud. This is why He sent His only son to take away the punishment of sins of humanity so that they get washed by the blood of Christ, your only task in return is to accept that gift because God will not force you against your own will. To me, it makes perfect sense for God to throw sinners into the pits of hell, not because He hates them of course (He loves us all), He just cannot stand with unwashed sin and wants no one to go to hell which is why He sent Jesus Christ on Earth to die for us, and well even with that some people refuse to accept His love.. so as an act of love, even against His own will, He accepts your rebellious request by sending you in a place that has no God, because this is what a sinner always wanted, this is how they lived their life, living and acting like they did everything in life and that God doesn't exist, so all God does isn't punishing the sinner but instead fulfilling the sinners' request out of love and respect for the sinners' own decisions that they have made by not accepting the gift of Christ and send them to a God-less place. Now if you complain that the place He sends them is cruel, I find that obvious, life cannot move on and live without God, obviously a place where the appearance of God is absent isn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows. You're not gonna kick your rude and narcisstic neighbour out of your dinner table after inviting them at your home and then go right at them and give them food when they don't even want to be with you and don't respect you, would you? There's a reason why this religion isn't dead, I've heard the same question asked like a dozen times already and well I'm sure that question was asked thousands of times way before you and I were ever born in this world. God has given you the free will of either choosing to accept His gift, or refusing it and getting what you want instead, but one shouldn't always trust themselves (you know how the saying goes "you can be your worst enemy") so it is better to put your trust in God's perfect plan, but that's up to you. I pray that you find the answers to all of your questions 🙏
@@carlcool20 People do not go to hell because of their so called “choices”, it’s your god “chooses” to send them there. I’ve often seen Christians argue that god is not to blame for hell. They say: “god doesn’t send people to hell, their choices do.” This is an obvious cop out, and people saying this are treating (more like forgetting) god as if he isn’t all powerful and doesn’t have free will. If people go to hell because of their actions (or beliefs), we must ask why? Who is the cause of this situation? It is god. If god created everything in the universe, and god decides everything that happens in the universe, the he set the condition that people who do not believe in him go to hell. He chose, actively chose, that unbelieving souls would not merely go to some kind of prison without being tortured, or be annihilated. He specifically picked that hell will be a place of eternal torment. He wanted that pain and suffering. If it were against his will it would not happen. Even if god did not create hell and make it the kind of place it is, given that he is omnipotent, he could choose not to let souls go there, and put them in a different place. Hell only continues to exist because god, in some way shape or form, desires it to. If he did not want it, he could easily put an end to it. If god chooses to be a bystander when he could intervene, then he is at fault for hell. Whether or not hell is a fair punishment is an entirely different argument. But, fair or not, we must acknowledge that God is the ultimate cause of souls going to hell. Eternal hell is unjust. Even the most evil of humans who walked on earth don't deserve it because it goes beyond punishment they deserve. The concept of eternal punishment surpasses any notion of fair or just retribution. Instead, an alternative approach could be considered, such as rehabilitation or a finite period of punishment proportional to their actions, what does it even do if they have a never ending torment. The fact that you go to hell for all eternity means that God doesn't believe in rehabilitation. Let's say you are a horrible person. You tortured many people, you killed some of them and you never kept the door open for someone. This doesn't mean you can't change after death. I agree that you have to be punished, but eternity is a couple of years too much. During our lifetime we can forgive someone if we see genuine remorse for quite a lot. From my point of view the fact that you go to hell for all eternity means that you will not change after death and that you can't evolve in the afterlife. Which is a scary thought by itself. I think this idea makes God appear as a deity which is not moral. And also makes the whole argument that religion is moral a whole lot weaker. The notion that someone would be condemned solely based on their lack of belief in a particular faith raises questions many people who belive in a religion were raised that way and were told if they question otherwise they will go to hell forever, so it sounds odd if they are wrong God will just send them an everlasting torment. Even a 1000 Quadrillion decillion years in hell would make more sense in comparison even though it's still messed up but it's still finite and would have some sort of meaning rather than actually never ending. The idea that one's life can be summed up in a moral balance sheet or that a couple actions could trump all your others and get you into heaven or hell is patently absurd. No great “”all-loving”” being could possibly devise a just moral system where a finite set of actions could lead to only two options: [eternal bliss] or [eternal torture]. There is no proportionality per heaven and hell both in terms of the requirements to get in and the very nature of everlasting reward or punishment.
I just got done watching this. The thoughts you shared here will be something worth considering tomorrow during our worship service. ❤ “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
But if Jesus is God, who was the God of the old testament, the merciless one. The one who so loved the world, he destroyed it with flood or is that just myth?
The God of the Old Testament isn't relentless, but brutally just in the aspect that human evil needs punishment. It is written "but God relented" which means He was still forgiving at the time.
On Nov 1,1755, in Portugal (a very Catholic country at the time) when most of the population were in churches, there occurred a massive earthquake, followed by flood then fires causing unprecedented deaths & damage.
Yes, on the morning of November 1, 1755, Portugal experienced a massive earthquake and tsunami on All Saints' Day: The earthquake The Great Lisbon Earthquake, as it's known, was a series of earthquakes that struck Lisbon, Portugal, and the Iberian Peninsula. The main shock is estimated to have had a magnitude of 7.7-9.0 on the moment magnitude scale. The shaking was so intense that it caused church bells to ring as far away as Austria. The earthquake opened fissures in the ground that were five feet wide and caused many fires. The tsunami The tsunami that followed the earthquake traveled across the Atlantic and struck the island of Martinique in the Caribbean Sea 10 hours later. In Morocco, the tsunami breached walls that were eight meters high. The death toll The earthquake and tsunami killed an estimated 70,000 people, making it one of the worst natural disasters in European history. The aftermath The earthquake and tsunami almost completely destroyed Lisbon and the surrounding areas. The fires that broke out after the earthquake burned for six days, consuming most of what the earthquake had spared. The impact The earthquake was the first large-scale earthquake to be studied scientifically, leading to the development of modern seismology and earthquake engineering. It also inspired a new optimism that science, reason, and international efforts could reduce human misery.
Beautifully put. Now for those that still can't let go of the objection even after the explanation: the wages of sin is death because sin is antithetical to life itself. Requiring blood to atone for sin is just metaphorical language to signify that death is necessary to atone for sin ("the life of the flesh is in the blood"). Hence, the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death. Death is to sin what OH- (base) is to H30+ (acid), they neutralize one another and produce H20, however without God's intervention this way of resolving the sin problem would result in losing the person who was trapped in sin. If death is necessary to resolve sin, then how can sin be resolved without losing the person trapped in sin? Is there a way for this person to experience death without actually dying? The only way is for God Himself to take on human flesh, die sinlessly on our behalf, such that we can share in His death and indeed experience death to sin, thereby being spiritually revived and cured from the spiritual disease that is sin by being reconciled to God. That's as succinct as I can put it, which still doesn't do it justice, because the doctrine of salvation is so incredibly multi-faceted. However, the fact that the solution to such a complex and multi-dimensional problem is so simple and elegant does make it all the more ingenious and beautiful.
Then: why could Satan keep any powers, and EVER be able, to revisit heaven, in any time, or way, whatsoever, post, fully, witting, fully CONSCIOUS - and none 'inherited'... high treason, @truthmatters7573 ? In day of Job, say. To give his silly opinion, there. After many angels became unaccountably unhappy, gullible, or confused - in heaven. I think that might be more... beautifully put. Including to victims of Torquemada, Calvin, Pope Paul III, and others. Or about Eden, about 'inheriting' anything from what only TWO people (semi) wittingly, choose, unaware of full implications. Nor of 'giving' Satan anything... And also, where does Romans 8:30, Matthew 7:13, 1 Corinthians 2:14, 2 Corinthians 2:4 - and Revelations 13:8... fit into, this wider, picture, too?
"the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death." - but who created this rule? God did it. No matter how many rules you will put forward, they will all be created by God. Hence it always comes back to the problem that God is solving problems he himself created. It makes absolutely no sense.
@@piotr.ziolo. it is not a rule created by God, rather it is an inherent consequence of the moral law, which itself is a reflection of God's unchanging nature. As such morality is not arbitrary and neither are the consequences of going against morality. Declaring morality to us did not create the moral law, neither did declaring the consequences of going against morality create those consequences. Those declarations are predicated on the reality of God's unchanging nature, not on an arbitrary act of will. The same goes for the rules of logic and mathematics. These are as unchanging as reality itself and are not arbitrarily decided upon, rather they are reflections of God's nature.
@@truthmatters7573 Can you provide this logical proof that goes from the unchanging nature of God to "the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death."?
@@piotr.ziolo. No, not at that level of rigor. Philosophy is best done slowly, and I don't have that time now. However, if you believe that injustice merits punishment and justice requires the punishment of injustice, then that solves that. You can also view it as a matter of injustice being a voluntary act of separation from God, who is also the source and sustainer of all life, meaning that your days are numbered the moment you choose to cut yourself off from God. You can also view it as the love of God making it impossible for the inevitable suffering that results from injustice to be multiplied infinitely in the absence of some greater good being achieved through that end. Now it's probably all of the above and possibly more. Anyway, good question, but I probably can't really help you more than this. Hope this serves as food for thought. I'm sure you should be able to see by now that your question is far from some insurmountable objection and has plausible answers, even if you are still a little fuzzy on the details.
But atleast by believing the ultimate sacrifice on the cross of Lord Jesus Christ who came to world as a sinless man to separate mankind from sins is more logical than licking a black stone that can forgive sins and grant a fantasy isekai 72 harem heaven 😊😇✝☦

I watched a video a few days ago by David Wood, where he addressed this issue from a different direction.
Do you see this as a psychological life lesson, or as a literal event?
@@mattr.1887The answer should be very obvious to you considering that he is a Christian.
I dont even know what to say, but thank you for all you do. Glory to Jesus✝️☦️

I'm still going to Sunday mass... but this beautiful meditation will now start my week.
And be sure to go every week.

incredible that he was able to keep a straight face.
“God sacrificed himself to himself….”
Sacrifice requires loss or it has no meaning. There was no loss in the action you describe, therefore no sacrifice.
It was a loss for God the Father since he lost connection with God the son for some amount of time and that never happened in the eternity.
@@majormohitsharma7701 I’d have to ask you to demonstrate that’s even a thing, because what you just described would be a limitation on what Christians claim is a being without limitations.
@@EverettVinzant I can try. God the Father loves God the son most in this entire universe. So to prove he loves mankind he has to give his biggest asset so that can be called love and not just mercy or some kind of Easy act God can do. So he gave Jesus to mankind and I am not making it up, you can go to the Gospels and read for yourself how God the Father turned away from his son because he hates sin. And jesus clearly knew about this That's why he clearly says in prayer that the cup be away from him. He is not scared about death. As we can witness him say things that made Jews angry earlier. But he didn't care. But what he truly cared about was the relationship with father will be broken for some amount of time. Because God the Father never stayed away from God the son in the eternity and now they have to separate because of the creation they made. Love is an emotion that isn’t always rational
Feelings aren’t a reliable way to come to truth
Do we teach children to act on how they feel or to look beyond their feelings?
Child: “I really feel like eating a bowl of ice cream before dinner”
Parent: “if you do, you won’t eat a nutritious dinner and just eating ice cream isn’t the sort of fuel your body needs to feel good in the long run”
Jesus is ice cream
Love is more than biology, more than emotion, it's a verb more than a noun.
That’s become quite unpopular. Nowadays love is just a feeling, and a person’s commitment to another is only as deep and as lasting as the emotion is. Hence why you have people getting divorced for “falling out of love.” Love is a decision and that decision transcends our feelings.

"If the central message of Christianity is so absurd, why did it not quickly die out? why does it continue to grow and it has become the world's largest and influential religion?"
Looks at history, anthropology, religions, ideologies and cultures throughout history and modern day... yeah, he is right, absurd ideas always quickly died out and Christianity is the only absurd idea that did not quickly die out.
None of the above, loving parents, zero church trauma while I was a Christian. And I never crap on others intentionally. I am just pretty concerned with finding the truth, so much so I expose myself to opposing ideas to that which I believe.

When you are feeling lost, and you feel true despair. That empty loneliness you feel in the pit of your stomach that almost aches. That is your soul in the throws of hunger for the sustenance it needs and craves. That can only be filled with Gods love.

And the third thing that impressed me.. was when the hand left I reactively said "thankyou!"
It just came out of me to say that, I didn't think to say it.

So IP's answer to God sacrificing himself to himself is God needed to put on a good show? Isn't that manipulative? Secondly, God didn't pay the ultimate price.

The Great Lisbon Earthquake, as it's known, was a series of earthquakes that struck Lisbon, Portugal, and the Iberian Peninsula. The main shock is estimated to have had a magnitude of 7.7-9.0 on the moment magnitude scale. The shaking was so intense that it caused church bells to ring as far away as Austria. The earthquake opened fissures in the ground that were five feet wide and caused many fires.
The tsunami
The tsunami that followed the earthquake traveled across the Atlantic and struck the island of Martinique in the Caribbean Sea 10 hours later. In Morocco, the tsunami breached walls that were eight meters high.
The death toll
The earthquake and tsunami killed an estimated 70,000 people, making it one of the worst natural disasters in European history.
The aftermath
The earthquake and tsunami almost completely destroyed Lisbon and the surrounding areas. The fires that broke out after the earthquake burned for six days, consuming most of what the earthquake had spared.
The impact
The earthquake was the first large-scale earthquake to be studied scientifically, leading to the development of modern seismology and earthquake engineering. It also inspired a new optimism that science, reason, and international efforts could reduce human misery.
@@13gladiusToKnotYou an ai ragebaiting LOL. Guys, don't waste your energy on this bot
This, by far is the best video you’ve released! I need to watch this channel more because this was amazing 😢. ❤ ✝️
Why would the true supreme God allow all this confusion of alternative religions? Especially when he intervenes with angels and prophets?
@Set_The_Seas_Abwlaze the black stone isn't meant to take our sins away omg like such an ignorant like u still exist its totally unbelievable
The god who said "I love these horrible beings so much that I'd die a shameful and painful death for them" is a god I wanna worship
When God doesn't seen no one to swear to, he swear to himself. On one before God, he is first and the last.
